How to LET GO & Detach to attract what you want (power of detachment)

Aaron Doughty explains how clinging to people, outcomes, or things creates energetic resistance that blocks what you want. He uses a radio frequency metaphor: attachments are static that prevents you from tuning to your desired frequency. Releasing the meaning you assign to objects and people restores your natural magnetic energy and invites synchronicity.

Have you ever noticed that the more attached you are to anything, the more resistant to that thing you become? And when you detach from it, it then attaches itself to you. Those opportunities and synchronicities come into your life. So whether it is an attachment to a specific person The more you have an attachment, you'll have weird resistant energy, and then that will block actual connection from being able to happen. If it is a specific synchronicity or opportunity, you really want a job and you're really attached to the outcome of it, you'll create resistance. You'll go on the job interview, the energy will be weird, and you'll end up blocking that thing. Although many times what you'll notice is when people finally let go and they detach, what happens is then they're in their natural state of being. They're not believing that this is going to be a means to an end. They're then being themselves because they're good either way. And then they have more magnetic energy, they have more synchronicities, and they have more opportunities that come into their life. So in this video, I'm going to show you why when you detach from synchronicity needing to happen a certain way, from people, from the inner needs that you feel you might need— when you detach from trying to meet those through what is called an external locus of control, you then find that things come to you easier. Because the truth is that the attachment is blocking what you want. Now think about this from a quantum physics point of view. Let's look at this. There is you and your energy field. Now what happens is let's imagine that what you want is just like a radio dial, 98.5 FM. Let's say at 98.5 FM, you're in the ideal relationship and you have the perfect job and you wake up feeling fulfilled every day. That's the reality you want to experience. But there is an attachment that is blocking you being able to perceive of that reality, which by the way exists right now. Just like you know that on a radio dial, you could tune to a certain radio station and the radio frequencies are all around. It's just that you need to tune to the frequency of it to perceive of it. So the inner energy field, if it's at 98.5, you'll perceive of 98.5. But if there's an attachment there, it will block it. Now, what could those attachments be? Well, there could be an attachment that says that, there could be an attachment to someone from your past. There could be attachment to a belief that says I'm not worthy or I'm not good enough. There could be an attachment to how things are meant to happen. And remember, anytime there is an attachment to how things need to happen, What happens is you create resistance. You stop just being. And remember, you are the most magnetic version of you when you are just being yourself. Now, the challenge is that for many people in the past, if you had inner child needs that maybe weren't met as a kid, it may feel familiar. It may feel familiar to feel negative emotion. So in a way, this may become what you're used to. You may be used to attachment. You may literally believe that love is attachment because most often what is modeled to us when we were kids is maybe not unconditional love because understand unconditional love, there's no conditions, there's no control. But if the inner child weren't, needs weren't met as a kid, there may be an attachment and using control to get those inner child needs met. The control is if I control what people think of me, if I ease tension and become a people pleaser, then I'll get what I want, which is manipulative. Instead of allowing and letting go of that attachment and allowing things to be. So the main part of this video that I really wanna talk about today is that of the external versus internal locus of control. Now, with an external locus of control, it's very often that the focus is on what other people think. The focus is on what is happening on the outside because there wasn't a feeling of feeling safe on the inside. So what happens is there's a focus on control on the outside. Which attachment of course is, is an attachment, is a clinging to the way things should be, the way things you may want to be so that you can feel safe. But you see, this is the outside in way. Now, an external locus of control is also like, okay, if there's a lot of times a very strong energy, sometimes blame. So if mom or dad didn't meet your needs as a kid, it may be that now there's a projection of that mom and dad energy onto a partner or onto a boss or someone in your life that's replaying that same dynamic. So the blame dynamic is I am feeling negative emotion and I'm feeling this way because of some external thing, not because of my internal emotional state, not because there's some belief I have or some form of, attachment that I have. There's almost like a lack of ownership, of responsibility in a way. And for me, what I had to do is I had to realize, because when I started to break out of certain patterns, I was kind of angry at my past self. I was angry first at the other people. I'm like, they're doing this to me. But then I realized, wait, I've allowed this energy to happen. So in a way, I've done this to me. And I had to take responsibility for that. And I had to take responsibility for my internal, having an internal locus of control, meaning the things that are happening on the external don't have to have as much power on my internal if I have an internal locus of control, if I realize that I can take responsibility. And very often people that have trouble with attachment, they have a very strong external locus of control. Control. They very much care what other people think. They very much are trying to subconsciously maybe control dynamics in their life to get people to do what they want them to do so that they can feel safe. Because there hasn't been that, in a way, that individuation. Because ultimately, by the way, what attachment is, is attachment is meaning. Attachment is meaning. The more attached you are to something, is the more importance you give to that thing meaning something to you. And I've used this analogy before, but if I get this marker and I'm like, "Can you let go of this marker, Aaron?" I'm like, "Easy, just freaking let it go. I could throw it away. It wouldn't be that big of a deal. I have other markers." But if someone says, "You know, your grandma gave you this marker when you were 5 years old and it was in this very specific moment when you were learning how to ride a bike." and she gave it to you and she told you that you could write whatever you wanted and that your voice mattered and what you wrote mattered and you could be creative, like there's some like crazy story that goes to this marker, then letting go of this marker then becomes much more heavy, much harder to do because there's a heavier meaning, there's more importance given to this specific marker. So then it's like carrying this marker everywhere I go, carrying it everywhere I go and I don't have the bandwidth to, to be free. You know, it's interesting, I'm becoming aware of this, something I'll share with you, in my own life when it comes to, so I'm getting ready to, I'm really redefining what freedom and abundance is to me because for a long time, when I started to get on YouTube, I associated success, I was like, there was this attachment to having nice things. So I ended up buying 3 houses over the last 5 or 6 years, very nice houses that I enjoy, however, How can you enjoy 3 houses? And there was a part of me, like back in the day, let me show you the difference between my consumerism now versus in the past. When I first got successful on YouTube and I had money, one thing I love and I've always loved is food. So I'd go out with my friends and we'd go out to eat and I would get so much food. I'm talking like people would think I was a competitive eater. Because I would go out to a restaurant, we'd go out to like a restaurant and I would get like 3 entrees. I would intermittent fast, go there, eat 3 entrees, 3 appetizers. I'd get all this food, I would eat almost all of it and the waiters sometimes would make bets that we weren't gonna finish our food 'cause that's how much food we'd order. And one time our waiter bet against us. I didn't like that. I was like, you're our waiter and you did not believe in us. But we ended up finishing the food. The joke was on him, okay? I rubbed it in his face. But the point of this is I would overdo it. And I think there was a part of me that maybe as a kid felt like, because there was definitely a deprivation of food when I was a kid from 7 to 17, because I had to sneak food to get enough to eat because I was only given a bowl of cereal in the morning, TV dinner at night. And then when my dad divorced my stepmom, then I was able to eat more food, gain like 20 pounds in a year. However, there was this scarcity around that. So there was this an attachment now that I'm successful to eating lots of food. And funny enough, I'm getting ready to move now. And I started to realize that having all of these things, like my life has become complicated, having multiple houses, having a lot of materialistic things. And I'm like, you know what? I actually associate freedom with letting those things go and being able to travel. Being able to have experiences. Connections are worth more. Experiences are worth more than materialistic things. So for example, another way that this came up for me is back in the day in 2020 when all that stuff happened, I put, out of, I guess it was fear. I don't know if it was fear, but it was like, I was like, you know what? I'm gonna stock up in case there's some zombie apocalypse thing. I'm gonna stock up on food. So what I did is I have 2 freezers full of frozen food. Literally thousands of dollars worth of food. So now that I'm getting ready to move, I'm getting ready to move from Austin to LA for a period of time and I want to travel. So I'm not going to have like, I'm going to move some stuff into storage. I'm going to get rid of a whole storage unit full of stuff because 2 of my houses are being rented out right now. Eventually, I want to like downsize, simplify my life. However, Moving out there, there's these two frozen fridges and I'm like, what am I gonna do with the food? Is there a friend's house I can bring it to? Instead of just giving it away and donating it. And I felt so free when I started thinking about donating it and being able to give all that food to someone. And I bought it, the point that was made too that was powerful is I bought the food outta scarcity in a way, outta fear. Which means it's not a good reason to hold onto it. So I'm starting to associate, but what, look at the shadow work of this. The shadow work of holding onto this food is that when I was a kid, I was deprived food. I'm afraid to let this freezers full of food go. However, I'm realizing that that's also connected to maybe the inner child needs of feeling like there's not enough and feeling like, there's scarcity. 'Cause I didn't have enough food growing up. I had to sneak food. And the interesting thing is that there was enough food, I just wasn't allowed to have it, which was and felt not fair. So interestingly enough, what I can tell about myself is, and I was talking to my friend about this 'cause he went through a process where he said he let go of like everything, he moved at one point And when he moved from across country, he'd sold everything, him and his family. And he said it was so freeing. So I look forward now to be able to get rid of a lot of things that I would attach to and like hold onto, 'cause I'm like, I don't want to, I paid for it already, I already have it. Like, why would I let it go? But there's a freedom that comes from not having so many things, not having so many attachments. And he says there's like an energetic freedom that comes when you energetically let it go. When I first moved from Vegas to Austin, I have a whole entire storage unit that I've been paying for 2 or 3 years, been paying $400 a month for a storage unit. I'm not even completely sure what's in there. And I've been holding onto it instead of donating it for no reason. It's like, 'Cause there could be something in there.' There is like 1 or 2 family heirloom, like my blankets when I was a kid with like photo albums, but I can like empty out the, I can find that 1 box and then get rid of the rest. So this might sound kind of cocky. I'm saying this, I have storage units full of stuff. I have so many materialistic things. But the reason I'm sharing all this is because that's the attachment of scarcity. And I can feel that when I let this stuff go, which I'm going to do, I will feel so much more free because I'm redefining what freedom is to me. And freedom is letting go. So the thing is, is you believe that if you have that attachment, you're gonna get what you want. But actually it's the cost of entry for you to get what you want. Maybe there's an attachment you need to let go of, an attachment to a belief, an attachment to an outcome, an attachment to a person. And if you let that go, and what you, by the way, all of these things that you're afraid to let go of, it's because of the meaning you attach to it. It's a meaning thing. It's not a person thing. It's not a situation thing. It's a meaning to that because everything is fundamentally neutral. It's the story to the attachment that is heavy. So becoming aware of this, you could then say, what is the meaning I am giving to this attachment? And what is the story that I must have it on the external to feel it on the internal? So this is where we begin to take responsibility for our internal locus of control, understanding that at a certain point we've picked up the attachment. We started to believe the story or the lie that we needed that thing to make ourselves happy. Now, the irony is when you let go and you start being happy just because, you don't make it some external thing for you to be happy, you'll be happy in a higher vibration and more likely to attract that thing, synchronicity, or person into your life or that type of person. Why? Because you've let go of the attachment, that an attachment is resistance. Anytime I have let go of some form of attachment, and there's sometimes fear there, fear around what will people think, fear around, oh, I'm not gonna have this thing now. When you have the courage to let that attachment go, the universe will many times bring you something even more magical than you can imagine. And also understand that this attachment, it is the belief in the attachment, but it is also the thing that you believe you need in order to feel at 98.5 FM. And one reason the attachment is still active is because there's a fear that that thing, that attachment might not be in your life. So the only way to have it still be around is through a concept. Think about that. It's almost like if that person or that synchronicity or that situation isn't here now, the way to keep it alive is to ruminate about it, to think about it, to keep it alive energetically. But that is just to soothe. It's like a pacifier that's soothing a part of yourself that's afraid of letting go. When instead, if you were to let go, you would then feel more free. You would then feel more alive. You would then allow new meaning to come in because if you're afraid, if you're holding onto one meaning that doesn't serve you, it's taking up the energetic space and bandwidth of allowing new meaning to come in. For example, someone maybe is attached to an ex. And they have a meaning to this ex. This ex is the person that things are supposed to work out with, blah, blah, blah. Well, what ends up happening is that story, that meaning is taking up energetic space and there's a story attachment there that is blocking something new from coming into your life. Now, a lot of times this is why when people go through a breakup, it's recommended they find new meaning, not new meaning in a new relationship, they start working on their purpose, they start finding joy in other relationships in their life, other friendships, other things they're passionate about. And as they do that, they fill up their cup and then that attachment starts to go away because they've reorganized the meaning. But see, you generate meaning from an internal locus of control. You choose what things mean. So one of the main parts of this video that can really change your life is switching from focusing on the external to focusing on the internal, taking responsibility for your attachments, realizing you believe in your attachments, but that it's the cost of entry for happiness to the life that you want. Trust the universe, trust God to bring you what you want. It's just that you have to let go of the old attachment. And I have a, by the way, I have a course on this, a $1,000 course for free called High Vibe 101 that comes with breathwork. I added a frame technique section in there with workshops and meditations to show you how to separate and to feel the separation between you and others so that you could start to feel like you have a strong internal locus of control. It's completely free inside my high vibe community called High Vibe Tribe, which is free. I'll go ahead and link it below if you wanna join High Vibe 101, free 1,000-hour course. And understand that part of matching the frequency of the desired reality you have, it has to do with letting go. So I have a video that came out recently on how to let go to match the frequency of your dream reality. Go ahead and watch this video next and watch how much your life changes on the inside as a result of the things that you learn. Check it out right here. People that are not attached have a more magnetic energy.
