Welcome back to another episode on the Aaron Doughty Podcast. My name's Aaron, and in this episode, we're gonna be talking about how to let go, how to move on, and how to make 2022 your year. Not anyone else's year, not your mama's year, not your dad's year, but your year. And if you're really selfless, maybe you'll have such a good year that it'll also help other people. Maybe that's a benefit of you listening to this podcast episode. Now, first off, the other thing I wanna mention with this is I believe that 2022, for many of you listening to this episode, if you are what we call a starseed or just somebody that has woken up, many people that find themselves in my content are people that have been through a lot of pain in the past. And from that pain, you then grew to a place to where you had pressure that created a spiritual awakening. And I believe that many of you listening to this podcast episode right now have gone through this level of pressure because you are meant to really embody a new version of you in 2022. It is time to step into your power and it is time to let go of the things that aren't deeply serving you. And throughout this episode, that's exactly what we're gonna be doing is we are going to be releasing that which no longer serves us so that we can give ourself more permission to be who we really came here to be. Now, this is also about understanding really the magic of detachment, of letting go. The key to raising our vibrational state of consciousness is really more about letting go than wiring in. It's like, there's an Abraham Hicks quote that she talks about quite often. That all we have to do is think of it like a bob in the ocean. If you hold down a bob in the ocean, you know, a bob normally bobs on the ocean, you hold it down, how does that bob get back up? Do you have to raise it back up? No, you just let it go and it naturally raises back up to the surface of the ocean. Many of you listening to this right now and pretty much everyone on the planet, the key to you raising your vibration is you letting go of the resistance, letting go of the attachment, and letting go of the limiting beliefs that are keeping you under the surface, that are keeping you in resistance. That's it. When you let go, your vibration will naturally begin to raise and you will feel more free. And it's a process of awareness too, just becoming aware. If you become aware of the ways that you're holding yourself down, you then give room for yourself to then release it. And it's really also a choice. Before I started, or even in this title, it's, and make 2022 your year. The way you make 2022 your year is you simply make the choice. That's it. And 2017, I made the choice to go daily on YouTube. And I simply chose that that was gonna change my life. And it did change my life. That was it, it was a choice I made. I think a lot of times, especially in like the spiritual community, we're waiting for things to happen. We're waiting to see 11:11 on the clock. We're waiting for a certain date that we think will change everything. And because we're waiting, we're prolonging our own transformation. If we were to simply decide, that's where everything begins to change. I was watching a show last night called Cobra Kai. And I can't believe that I'm using Cobra Kai as an example for something that we can learn, but it is a good show, so I don't see why not. But Cobra Kai is about Karate Kid. It's like a new remake of the show Karate Kid. And there's this one, I think her name's Tory. It's the daughter of Daniel, who was the guy in the original show Karate Kid. And she's like a teenager and they're all learning karate and stuff like that. And her mom is like cool with a bully that this girl that's like the evil girl of the show that trying to let her go back to the school and trying to kind of like, she sees the pain in this girl. So she's trying to let her go back to the school that her daughter goes to. And the daughter is all rung up, like strung up about it. She's angry about it. Why would my mom and my dad betray me and like allow this, this bully girl to come back to the school. But then she went and she saw one of her friends that she used to be best friends with. And her friend showed her like, there's that when she, her friend went to this new school in Santa Barbara. And when her friend went to that school, she normally had bullies and stuff like that. And she was sure that this one girl was gonna be a bully. So what she did is she went up to that girl on the first day of school and she said, and introduced herself and said that she liked her shoes or something like that. That's now her best friend. This is of course a show, but the idea is that that then inspired her to take her power back. And instead of seeing her as the victim of like the parents that have chosen this other friend, she's decided and she said, you know what, I'm gonna call the shots. So what she did is she then decided that she wasn't gonna let it affect her so much. And she went in and she kind of like, when that girl then started back at school, she then kind of expressed to her like, it was kind of in a very actually aggressive way. but she's like, it doesn't make a difference to me, B-word, okay? But the reason I'm sharing this is because at any moment we can choose what meaning we give to the situations in our life. And in 2012, another thing that I decided is I just chose, I said that I'm sitting down to learn meditation. And prior to this, by the way, my story was I can't meditate. I have ADHD, I have my energies all over the place. It was to a point to where there was a manager that I worked with at Nordstrom's that literally was telling other managers that she thought I was on coke because of how energetic I was. And I wasn't on anything. I had never done coke in my life at that point. I've done it twice in my life and it was a long time ago, but I don't even know why I'm sharing that. Vulnerability wins. But it's something that I did, that I, okay, so I had never done at that point. And then she was saying that about me and I was like, why is she talking smack about me? That's literally what people thought about me because of my energy. So why would Aaron, that ecstatic version of me with a lot of energy, be able to meditate? Well, I simply decided that I was going to meditate and I sat down and I was staring at the candle flame. And I also decided, I just had this feeling, this download and this decision that this is going to change my life forever. So what if many things in our life are just permission slips for us to transform our life? We could just decide at any moment. And then because we decide, it then changes our life. I was talking to, there was a, I was in a live, you know, I'm running this 21-day Magnetic Abundance Challenge right now. And there was someone I brought on that I was coaching or like listening to. The other day, yesterday actually. And one thing she said is like she had a crazy traumatic past and she was being walked on by her kind of like narcissistic husband. And then what happened is one of her sons died. And when that happened, what happened is she decided in that moment that no longer was she gonna take her shit from her husband. And she gave him the ultimatum, either you stop treating me like this or I leave. The meaning she gave to her son's death was that she was no longer gonna put up with certain things. Like there's certain meanings we give to things that then we make a choice about something that we're gonna change about ourselves. But the thing is, is at any moment we can decide that. But the thing is, is we're also training people to treat us a certain way. If we have trouble setting boundaries, then it's because we over time have allowed people to influence us To where then when we do set boundaries, they don't believe that, you know, in what we're actually saying. So the key and the reason I'm sharing all of this with you is every single one of us has the ability at any moment to make a choice about who we are that then transforms our life. And the thing that gets us to that choice may sometimes be very intense. Sometimes people only make the choice once they've hit rock bottom. Some people make the choice when there's a lot of, I was listening as well to a Dana White. This was kind of interesting, but I'm really inspired by Dana White. Dana White owns UFC. He doesn't own UFC, but he's the president of UFC. He's a very charismatic guy. Dana White was talking about on Tony Robbins, Tony Robbins like live event thing. He was talking about what made him like successful. And a lot of it was his certainty of choice that he made and like, in like with UFC and making UFC what it is today, 'cause I do enjoy watching UFC. But one thing he said was he was inside, he was in Boston. He was born and raised in Vegas, which is where I'm from. So I thought that was kind of cool. And he then moved to Boston for 10 years. And when he was there, he was being like a boxing promoter or he wanted to be a boxing promoter and he was starting to get into the business. But then one thing that happened is the mob in Boston started coming after him and they kept telling him, you owe us money. If you don't give us $2,500, "You won't wanna see what happens." And then he's like, "What? I don't have $2,500. Why would I pay you?" And it went months with nothing happening. And then all of a sudden these guys called him back and said, "Hey, you owe us $2,500 before tomorrow or you don't even wanna know what's gonna happen." He didn't get on the phone with Delta and he got a one-way flight to Las Vegas. He left everything in Boston that he owned, his TV, his couch, everything, and he just moved to Vegas. And he moved back. And that was a moment he had some scarcity, he had some urgency there, but guess what? He made the choice and he moved. So it's interesting because there's things that can happen and there's some people, and by the way, he said that there were people that didn't, that stayed in Boston that didn't pay up, guess what happened? He said that people were finding, they were finding bodies on the beach and stuff like that. Like there was crazy stuff happening for the people that did stay. So he was happy that he moved. Now at any moment though, we can almost Jedi mind trick ourselves as well to take action. I got to a place when I was working at that 9 to 5 job where I was just continuously having to deal with that of corporate politics, having to suck up to get the schedule I wanted. I just wasn't happy and I just made a choice that I'm going to make videos every single day on YouTube until my life transforms. And that choice created a new reality for myself. But I had to also let go of the old mentalities that was keeping me stuck in that reality. The old mentalities was that I need a 9 to 5 job to feel safe. There was the mentality that I'm not good enough to even make videos. I'm not credible enough. I live at my dad's house. I don't know how to edit. I don't know how to film. Like I had all these doubts and I had to let those go for me to step into a new version of me. So the reason that I'm sharing all of this with you is that you can become aware of the stories, the limiting beliefs, and the excuses you are telling yourself that is keeping you tied down We're holding tight onto the old. And to let go, it is really about awareness and choice. Now, the reason it is sometimes challenging for us to let things go is because we're afraid if we let things go, then everything, we're afraid of the fear of the unknown. So if I let go of my 9 to 5 job, I'm going to, I'm gonna be in this unknown. But it is also a different value system. When I look at, I was talking about this to my dad, with my dad and his friend when he was in town like a month ago. The value system that I have now that I become the full-time version Aaron that like makes YouTube videos and has a business is that I value, and I even when I had the 9 to 5 job, I also valued this. I value being able to create my own paycheck. That's what I, I worked a sales commission job, went in every day, started at zero, and I liked that mentality. But then what happened? Is I also had that to where I still was getting paid a paycheck every week. We got paid weekly at Barney's New York, which was interesting and nice. But my dad though, he's a fire investigator. He gets paid a pension. He likes the security of that. He likes knowing what he's gonna get paid the rest of his life. He likes that. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it is a different value system from when I was going to that to when I started making videos on YouTube to where now like I have online courses, I do live events, I do retreats, workshops, all this stuff. Is different because it's not steady. It's not that it's not steady, but it's not predictable. I value and I like the newness of that. I can blame it on my Gemini moon. I like the newness. I like change. And for you, one of the things you might have to do is let go of an old value system, an old virtue system that maybe you used to live by. So in this last year, what I want you to do is to look at different aspects of your life and look at what's not working. And for me, over the last year, I've let go of the people-pleasing nice guy mentality. I've let go of believing I have to really work hard, being I have to control everything, that I can't trust people on my team. I've got this mentality that has kind of kept me in this rigidity where now I've had to become aware that I value certainty very high on my list. And if I could start to, in a way, trust the universe and step into the unknown, that that's where more magic is. I can look at the past and see that I used to value being told what to do, even though I didn't like it. I used to like getting the certainty of a paycheck working at Barney's New York. And the fear of the unknown, of what people will think about me, of the judgments, like those were all things that held me back. But I had to let go of also caring what other people thought. So this is what you could also do for this year is look at your values and just become aware of what are your current stories about reality? What are your current stories about where you are? And then just make a choice that you're going to adopt new values that are actually in alignment with the real you. So my new values are I value authenticity over everything, vulnerability, And then I've taken off of my list validation and approval seeking, which is something that used to be on the top of my list subconsciously. And as I started to become aware of these things and as I started to release these things, I started to feel like a completely different version of me. And for 2022, the thing I really believe it's asking of you is it's asking for you to have courage to step into the unknown. To have courage to start that blog, to have the courage to start going after your passion, to have the courage to maybe even apply for a job that you don't think you're worthy of, or to start your own business. Many of you are coaches or people that wanna do life coaching, but you don't believe you're good enough. You think you need one more certification. You could start with where you are. That's what I did. I don't have any official certifications or degree on that of, like making YouTube videos or coaching or metaphysics. I'm just extremely passionate about what I teach. And when I even look at like what I'm moving into for 2022 is I wanna just do what I wanna do. And for a long time, I've kept this perpetual motion going of making YouTube videos, podcasts, content on YouTube. And it's like, I wanna do live events. I've been talking about it for fucking years and I'm really tired of talking about it, but I'm gonna actually, I actually have like 5 events planned this year. So it's already happening. But like, there's a part of me that feels like I still have to keep the grind going and the momentum going of the past version of me. And I'm realizing now that like, I can take a step back and not have to grind so hard and do things that feel forced. I just wanna do what I enjoy doing. Now, the way I make decisions on what I wanna do, it used to be like, what's the most financially reasonable decision? What courses should I launch? What should I be doing? Well, how many videos do I have to make a week? 'Cause I used to make videos every single day on YouTube for years. Now I make 3 videos a week and they're all podcast episodes that are going on the main YouTube channel. But what I realize is, what am I most passionate and excited about doing? I'm most passionate and excited about, I also wanna do like interviews. I wanna bring on other, interviews with like other people in my niche. I wanna like reach out to like maybe Bob Proctor or Joe Dispenza, like people like that and get 'em on the podcast. And I'm excited to do that. So that's how I know that that's something I wanna do. But the thing that I encourage you to do is to have the courage to step into the unknown. That's requiring me to reach out. There's like degrees of self-sabotage that comes up. Oh, you think you're at the same level or you think you're good enough. These thoughts are just there to keep me safe and to keep me making YouTube videos and keep me in the grind of what I'm doing. Making videos I know is gonna be a huge shift for me. I had an astrology reading from someone named Bracha who's like a really well-known famous astrologer. I got it for Heather and I for the holiday gift. I got her like a very, like a couple session. And one thing she said is about May or June of next year, my astrology shows a huge shift to my identity. Well, guess what? I've got like 2 events scheduled back to back. I bet you when I start doing these live events, it shifts my identity and that's all I wanna do is live events. And I'm excited. And at the same time I'm realizing, well, until then, what do I do? But what I'm realizing is like those thoughts that come up, the sabotage, the imposter syndrome, it's all there to keep me safe. And it is always gonna be there until I step into this new version of me. And then start realizing that there's nothing to actually be afraid of. And the thing is, is in our minds, we make it up to be much bigger than it is. But a lot of times I see people that are like, I'll start making my YouTube channel, I'll start doing this, I'll start doing XYZ when the self-sabotage and the imposter syndrome is gone. The thing is, is it will be there until you step into this new version of you. It is there as a trying to keep you from being this new version of you because it doesn't think it's safe. But realize this, all magic happens in the unknown. So stepping into the unknown is what is gonna create something new for you. If we think, feel, and act the same way we've always acted in that the very comfortable familiar zone, then we'll get what we've always got. We get what we've always got. But instead, if we make a choice and we step into a new version of ourselves, that is what is going to transform our lives. Now, the other thing that I wanna share about this whole process is the key to letting go of the past is becoming aware that everything in our reality is a fundamentally neutral thing with no built-in meaning, even the crazy shit that happened in our past. One thing that really changed my life back in 2012 was when I went through my awakening, I realized that all the pain I went through when I was a kid from 7 to 15 years old with my ex-stepmom, all the control, all the abuse, all the malnourishment, everything, that led to my spiritual awakening 10 years later. So I became very grateful for it. I looked at my past and I saw that it led to my spiritual awakening. Many of you have been through a lot of pressure growing up. You've been through a lot of crazy things. You may have had crazy toxic family dynamics. You may have had abuse, whatever it was, Realize that a lot of us offloaded a lot of the pain we experienced in our lives so that we can then go through a transformation. We could create pressure. And the interesting thing is that right now what's happening on the planet is there's pressure being created through all the craziness going on to help people go through awakening because now is a time of awakening on the planet. You offloaded a lot of that in your past, but realize it's beautiful because it led to your spiritual awakening. You're awake now. You're listening to this podcast now, to this video now. Most people that aren't awake or not aware of this kind of stuff, they wouldn't even listen to this far in. So give yourself credit and realize that it's a beautiful thing. When you reframe the meaning, that's when things changed. For me, I had to let go of the old anger and resentment towards my ex-stepmom by realizing that also my ex-stepmom, who's a narcissist, her dad was abusive towards her and a narcissist as well. So guess what? She's just playing out that pattern. I was able to forgive her. I was able to understand her, not necessarily agree with it. I wasn't like so grateful that I went through so much pain, but I was grateful that it led to where I'm at now. And the thing that I'm encouraging you to look at is look at your past and realize it led to where you are now, but every moment you're a new version of you. Every moment you're a new version of you. Every moment you're a new version of you. And all you have to do is give yourself permission to make a transformational decision that changes your life. Letting go and moving on is the choice that you make when you know that it's time to step into the new. Step into the new. I'm gonna be doing live events a year to step into this new version of me. I'm also, I'm afraid almost to let go of like how much content I've created in the past, but I realize that I have to let go of this and I have to put my hand off the vine for me to then get into the new vine, like Tarzan. I have long hair right now, so I kind of feel like Tarzan. But the thing that I think will really transform your life more than anything else over the next year is one, becoming aware of your attachments. Become aware of what your attachments are. Are your attachments limiting beliefs? Is it an ex? Many of you wanna attract love, but you are still attached to your ex. It will not happen until you let that go. The reason it's hard to let go is because of the story you tell yourself about the situation. That's it. It's the story you tell yourself. And you're afraid that if you let this person go, that you're gonna be alone. You're afraid if you let, they're your one shot at love. You're afraid that if you let them go, that you won't get what you want. Letting go is the ultimate act of abundance. For me to attract love, I had to let go of my past relationships. I had to let go of a past relationship. It was very challenging to let go of, but when I finally let it go, all of a sudden new opportunities came in and then I met Heather. The reason I share that with you is 'cause literally for 2 years I was in limbo mode and nothing was happening. It was because I was still attached. And I thought letting go was so hard. Letting go was so hard. Letting go is so hard. Letting go is just a choice. It is actually easy. The thing is, is we make it very complicated because we are fighting for familiar patterns. We're fighting to stay in the familiarness of our childhood dynamics. Most of the people that are attached to their ex, guess what? They're fighting for similar childhood dynamics. The person they're with reminds them of their mom or their dad, and they feel familiar with that. Familiar, also the word family, and they're fighting for it because it's what they think they deserve. You have to get honest with yourself though, and you have to realize that if you keep saying yes to an old pattern, that's all you're gonna continue to get. And I was getting an old pattern of like people not feeling chosen, not feeling good enough, not feeling, I feel like there's a level of emotional unavailability that was like, that I was feeling conflicted with because I was also emotionally unavailable. That's the funny thing about some of this stuff. We like to point the finger, not realizing that there's something active in our energy that is attracting these kinds of things. So what I would recommend you do is become aware of these patterns, because as you do, it will completely transform your life. And make the choice to let go. Making the choice to let go is very easy. It's just that to make the choice, we make it complicated where it's like, no, I shouldn't choose that because we're all conflicted on the inside. Letting go is extremely easy. It's just a choice. And then wiring in a completely new version of you in 2022 is extremely easy. All you have to do is make the choice. I made the choice to make daily videos in 2017, transformed my life. I made the choice in 2012 to meditate, changed my life. I made the choice to let go of an old identity of having ADHD, and I started questioning what I'd been told. Doctors told me I had ADHD, therefore I believed that that was my reality. Instead, I started looking at things differently. I started questioning my reality, and I started being a new version of me. You can give yourself permission right now to be a new version of you. And as you make the choice and as you embody it, You don't look to the external to tell you that you've changed. You simply make the choice. And what you'll find is that when you do that, reality begins to change on the outside. And another thing, a piece of advice I'll give you that changes everything is do whatever you're doing or be who you're being because it's who you are, not what it'll get you. When in 2000, this next year, I'm gonna be doing live events, not because it's gonna mean this or that, because I just know it's who I am. If I make videos because I wanted to get views, then guess what? It will, you'll feel that resistance. What's funny is when I make these videos and I'm trying to like get a hook in the beginning of the video so that it does well on YouTube and I have all these like things in my mind, it's not as authentic and raw. Whereas I just started this one, wasn't overthinking it, just decided I was gonna be vulnerable and share these things with you. And guess what? It just comes out a lot more naturally and easily. Take the filters off. Take the buffer off and simply decide who you are and how you're gonna show up in the world. I realize as well, I ask myself sometimes like, why have I not been invited on certain podcasts? And why am I not at this next level, in quotation marks, that I make up in my mind? And that I thought maybe I need a central message. Maybe I need to be more clear on my marketing. Maybe I need this, maybe that. And I'm realizing I just have to fucking own myself. I just have to own who I am and to know it's enough. I've been trying recently to like come up with like, what is my niche? I've got my YouTube guy telling me to like, just focus on the attract love niche. I got somebody else. I got all these like thoughts and stuff. And I'm realizing, what do I wanna do? Who am I? I don't have to put myself in a little box. And I just have to own who I am and realize that there's not a problem. It's not like I need, I feel like I need something. And that's why there's energy that's coming off of me that feels like uncertain. Like I need my marketing message. I need this, I need that. Why can't I just be myself and give myself permission to be that, whatever that is? And make it way less complicated. So that's what I'm realizing changes everything, is when I begin to apply that, it's extremely powerful. Now for 2022, there's 6 steps you can take. This is what I call the Shift Experience.
