How to not Feel Lonely during the Spiritual Awakening Process

Aaron Doughty explains why spiritual awakening can feel isolating and how to move through it. When he awakened four or five years ago, friends and family thought he was different or losing it. The shift came when he stopped needing their approval, and paradoxically, more people were drawn to him.

Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this video, what I thought I would do is explain to you guys a little bit about the idea of how to not feel lonely when going through the spiritual awakening process. Now the reason I said it is because a lot of times we give this whole, you know, like the idea of spiritual awakening, which I understand it to be a very powerful process, but at the same time sometimes we make it a little bit more complicated than it has to be. Really, we're just coming to understand more about who we are. We're starting to get to the core of who we are, and as we begin to do that, we notice that some things might fall away, like maybe some ways of thinking don't necessarily serve us. Anymore. Maybe sometimes like doing the culturally conditioned way, like thing to do, maybe it's not as appealing as it used to be. Uh, but really as we start to get to the core of who we are, some ideologies fall away from us and then we kind of shift our paradigm for the way that we think. Now that this is spiritual awakening. Spiritual awakening is becoming aware of the core essence of who we are and connecting to that and understanding that we can really live from that expression. Now let me share with you a little bit about what I went through years ago to give you a little bit of a reference point for how you might be going through something kind of similar. Now, 4 years ago I went through my spiritual awakening process and when I went through that, it completely changed my paradigm. Like it changed the way that I thought. It changed my relationship to people because as I began to change from the inside out, all of a sudden when I speak to other people, there's a different way that I relate to people, not in a way like like having a spiritual ego, like I'm this person that knows all this information, therefore I'm better than everyone else. I mean it just in the way that where the things I was interested in started to change and therefore you can see that like people that maybe I had relationships with in a certain way, maybe we would like go out and party or something like that. Maybe that didn't like intrigue me the way that it used to. So therefore there's like a different level of relation there and maybe even like when you think of it, understand that people have an expectation for how you are supposed to act. And a lot of times if we don't meet up to that expectation, that's when it starts to change, and that change can cause resistance. And that's why a lot of people who go through the idea of spiritual awakening go through this experience of having their relationships change with other people, with family members, and it's something I definitely went through. So years ago, 4 years ago, or maybe it's been 5 years now, I went through the idea of spiritual awakening. I learned about the idea of meditation, I started doing it, and within like 2 or 3 weeks it completely changed my my perspective on life. And from that, I started to feel really good a majority of the time. Like the way that I felt, my set point raised. It got to a place to where like I just felt so much more alive than I've ever felt before. And from that experience, I was of course so excited to share that with other people. So I would tell friends, I told family members, and of course anytime, you know, maybe you explain something that other people don't understand or necessarily maybe it's even against their own beliefs about what they believe to be true, of course that will start the resistance because I then had an expectation that almost like they were going to almost be grateful or not even grateful, but they were just going to accept that this was the way that I thought now and that my energy completely changed. You know, I went from somebody with ADHD that had a hard time focusing and my energy was kind of all over the place to all of a sudden having a much more grounded energy, like still having a lot of energy, but it was just a lot different. People noticed immediately that there was something different about me. And from that came this perspective of me sharing this information because I thought other people would enjoy it and maybe it'd be even empowering for them, but then quickly finding out that not everybody is as open as I originally thought they were going to be. Now from this, there were the idea of family members who thought that like I was on drugs or that there was like something wrong with me, and then friends as well questioning I remember one time I heard a friend ask another friend like, what happened to Aaron? I forget how I heard that. It was like on the phone or something. I heard about it through someone and it kind of, I mean, at the time, of course it kind of hurt me because I'm like, you know, there's nothing wrong with me. There's nothing that's changed. I'm not doing drugs. All I did was simply go within, have new realizations, and from that, because my energy changed, people just thought something was happening with me. Now with all that being said, one thing that I really had to learn was how to let go of what other people thought of me. And really how not to need external validation from other people. Now you'll see that sometimes, sometimes there'll be people that don't really believe in necessarily what they're doing, but maybe what they do is they try to get other people to believe in it. And if those other people believe in it, it makes them believe in it a little bit more. And I think that one of the powerful parts of this is understanding how to really let go of needing other people to agree with whatever we're experiencing. If we're going through spiritual awakening, which is a process, the idea is that we don't need other people to agree with us. One thing we could do is just be simply grateful and curious about the process and understand that as we go through this process, we're learning more about ourselves and we're learning how we can then adjust and relate to other people in new ways. So what I had to learn how to do was to let go of what other people thought of me, and sometimes it was painful, to be honest with you, because there were friends that I hung out with all day, every day, pretty much. And all of a sudden my interest changed where I like to read books. I like to have conversations that were very different than the older conversations. And because of that, it caused, you know, a change in relationship with certain people. And while I'm still friends with those people today, I definitely recognize that there's a part of me that is just so focused on other things that maybe there's not as necessity for me to push certain things or for me to get people to believe in anything that I'm doing or believing to be true. Now I will say that this is a paradox because the more that I let go of needing other people to believe in whatever I was doing and the more I just began to express myself from the authentic part of who I am, the more people started coming to me. So people maybe 4 years ago that would look at what I was doing and be like, whoa, that's like woo woo, or that's weird, now are coming to me and like, whoa, remember that thing that you said that one time? I want to talk about that. I want to learn more about this. Can you show me how to meditate? There's been so many people that have come to me and not that I need them to come to me, but I think it's a good sign that as I let go of what other people think and I just started to express the authentic version of who I am, that then people started to come to me because they could feel that I was being authentic. They could feel that my intention was good, good. My intention was not to like change people's perspective. My intention is just to add value. My intention is just to express myself and because of that it's a much more authentic interaction. Now another part of this I want to talk about is how I had to redefine what it meant to be lonely. Now a lot of times there's, there's two ways of looking at this. Now there's lonely, which a lot of times has a little bit of resistance in it because when anytime we feel lonely about something, it's, we feel like it should be different than what it is. We feel like a part of us is lost in a way. And when we talk about the word aloneness, it's very different than lonely. What we can learn to do is how to be alone and be okay, happy, and to feel 100% whole and complete. Now, aloneness is something that we can use as a tool. So what I learned how to do was to redefine in the moment what was happening, and instead of saying I am lonely or identifying and relating to the world in a way to where I felt like it should have been different than what it was, I used it as an opportunity for me to go deeper within myself and to connect to the core expression of who I am. This is when I really began to learn my purpose in life because as I began to go deeper and develop a deep connection with myself, I found that I then did not desire to be around people as much or to need that kind of validation from people and that loneliness completely went away. So what I encourage you to do is to define yourself as being alone, but know that it can be a tool for you to go deeper within the relationship within yourself. You can learn more about who you are and to do this, to do this, to do this. All I did was I simply connected to myself through— it could be meditation, but it could be just me also being more aware of what I felt like doing in the moment, following my excitement as far as I could until I could take it no further. And from doing that, we learn how to really express the core essence of who we are by knowing that we are enough. If you're going through spiritual awakening, it's okay. Allow yourself to just be okay with the process, and the more you become okay with the process and the more that you realize, secondly, that it is a process, it is not an end destination, the more that it just starts to flow easier. That's something else I want to touch on is understanding that spiritual awakening is a process. It's a process for defining who we are, for really learning more about the core expression of who we are and how we relate to the world. And the more that we allow it to be a process rather than an end destination, because sometimes if we think it's all the way over there, am I completely spiritually awakened yet? Am I enlightened yet? Instead of looking to the future and thinking that we need to be there, what we can actually begin to do is to be okay in the present moment because we realize that it's a process and we realize that certain relationships in our life are going to change. And it doesn't mean that they're going to completely go away. It just means that we're going to learn to relate to ourselves and to other people in new ways. I'll tell you that the more you come to love yourself and to accept yourself, the more other people will love and accept you. That's the process that I went through. I went from being completely confused as to why people didn't want to learn what I was learning, to feeling ostracized because they didn't accept me or agree with what I was thinking, to going within, finding out who I am, living from that true expression, to now seeing so many people coming at me, so many people wanting to learn more about what I'm talking about. I don't feel lonely, and even though I do enjoy parts of being alone because I can go within, I can get a lot of work done, I can do things, I realize that it's part of the process and it's part of a deeper realization that we can remain a deep connection with ourselves. Get to the core of who you are. Begin to understand that the more you go within, the less you look to the external reality to reflect certain things, the way that— the less that you need other people to validate what you're doing, and the more that you do that, the more you'll find that you're living the core expression of who you are. And in a future video, I will talk more about this idea of getting to the core expression of who we are and to really finding out what that is. But for now, I hope you understand that you are never really— you don't need to be lonely. Realize that we're all connected and that at a deeper level, you can remain a deeper connection with yourself. So I hope that you enjoyed this video today. Feel free to like this video if you liked it, share it if you found it of value, and as always, I'll see you guys in the next vid. All right, peace, much love. Namaste.
