I Let Go of Screen Time and Became More Magnetic than ever...

Aaron Doughty quit social media and screens for seven days, cutting phone use from 6-7 hours daily to 20 minutes. He slept deeper, felt more focused and creative, and attracted four business sales. He's launching a free 7-day detox challenge called the High Vibe Tribe.
Chapters
I just spent 7 days without scrolling on social media. I spent 7 days without watching Netflix. I've spent 7 days completely detoxing from all social media, and it has completely changed my life. You know, no one ever teaches us how to use these tools like social media, and social media is literally set up to addict you to it. Recently I realized I had over 6.5, 7 hours of screen time a day on my phone, and I realized that at nighttime I literally have been watching Netflix for hours before bed, wondering why I feel depleted, why I feel just like, you know, more like scattered thoughts, why I don't feel as motivated as I used to. And it's something that I think a lot of people can relate to because This isn't something we're taught. This isn't something we learn. We just kind of like, we realize we don't use social media. Social media uses us. And that has been like a huge game changer for understanding my own conscious awareness and my own attention of where that goes. Now, my life has changed so much over the last 7 days that what I wanna do is I wanna share with you what those steps were, what steps I took, and how this is like literally a second spiritual awakening. Maybe you've had a spiritual awakening earlier in your life. You go through this, it is unlike anything I've experienced over the last 10 years. It's my clarity, my peace, my sleep, my dreams, my focus. Like, have you seen me make a YouTube video with this much energy in the last like, I don't know, 2 years. Like this much focused energy. Like recently I made a choice. I'm not making YouTube videos anymore unless it's from my live events because that's when I'm in the most state. And I'm still gonna be making, like I'm doing an event next weekend in Sedona. That's where the content's gonna come from that live event. But I have energy unlike I've ever had before. And now if I do decide to make videos, I've shifted from just consumer to creator again. So I can if I want, because I have a lot of time now that I used to not have. And as you could see right here, my nightly routine has definitely shifted quite a bit. So in this video, what you're gonna see is, first part of the video is I made when I was first coming off the 3 days of doing this and how much my life had changed in 3 days. And then the last part of the video is an update from today where it's been a week now. So you're gonna be able to see my energy shift and what I experienced from the first week, the first like 3 or 4 days up until a week in, and you'll see the energy difference and you'll be able to see for yourself, is this something you can apply in your life and how can you go about that? 'Cause I'm not saying that in order to like go through this, you have to just completely renounce all social media and online and Netflix and everything, but there's a way to do it that I think will really resonate with you and be very applicable. That will reprogram your subconscious mind and allow you to literally tap into something you've never tapped in before. There, people say they feel confused, they feel stuck, they don't feel clear on their purpose. Just spend, just do what I share with you in this video and watch how much your life changes. So we're gonna get now into that first part of the video and then we'll come back to present day and you can see the difference. If you could see this video, then take it as a sign that if you were to do a social media detox or dramatically decrease the amount of screen time you had, your energy would completely shift. Your consciousness would shift, you would feel more present, and you would let go of a lot of anxiety that might be under the surface because of where your attention is being fragmented. Now, first off, let me show you over the last few days how much my life has transformed from this simple exercise, which is really just taking away and not consuming so much content. First off, let me show you what my nightly routine was. It used to be, this is a BioMat. It used to be, I'd be laying on that BioMat and I would be watching Netflix, White Lotus. I'd be watching Vikings. I'd be watching random shows that were on. And at nighttime, I would look forward to the last few days, hours of my day to where I could watch something late at night because during the day I'm working, I'm on my phone a lot doing busy business stuff, but at nighttime I get to let go and relax. Even during the day, what I would be doing as well is I would be eating and when I would be eating, what I would always do is I wouldn't eat at this table, I would eat at this table and I would watch something on YouTube. And what I noticed is I only liked eating if I was watching something and it was dopamine stacking. And I'd become aware as well that I was mindlessly eating and my food would not digest that great. I became aware of this. And then what happened actually, the trigger for me is last week I had 2 or 3 days during the full moon where I wasn't sleeping that good. And I thought, why is this happening? I've slept so deep for so long and all of a sudden I have this come up. And I remember talking, I remember I was like, I can't figure out what it was. I thought maybe it was the full moon, it was the energy, I couldn't figure it out. And I normally am not someone that blames Mercury retrograde or any of that stuff, but I'm like, okay, maybe there's something here because I couldn't understand it. But what happened is I actually went out and hung out with two friends of mine that also own businesses here in Sedona. And we went to the creek. And one thing that they told me is I was like, we were talking about lots of different things. We hung out for like 4 or 5 hours. And eventually I was like, "Do you guys watch any shows?" And I could tell they just don't watch shows and they have very present energy. And what I realized was it kind of reflected back to me just how much I'm in my screen. I went on my phone and I realized, oh my gosh, I've literally been on my screen for like 5 to 7 hours a day every day plus screen time. It might even be more than that. I might be saying that because it doesn't look as bad, But there's times I know my phone, I've been on like 5 to 7 hours, times probably even more than that, honestly. And it's something where I'm just, you know, I rationalize it 'cause I work from home and I have social media and that's what I do for a living. But I'm in my phone a lot, just kind of scrolling and I've become aware, like I know this is bad, but I just keep doing it. And I've always known that one of the last things for me to really kind of like shift is like my addiction to my phone. Like I've given up in the last, the many years, you know, 10 years ago I stopped smoking, stopped drinking, don't even drink caffeine, not that I'm better than anyone, I just don't. And even last year I got rid of this last stuff that I did, which is like the ceremonial tobacco stuff that I used to do. It's called Hapéh. Cold turkey stopped doing that. And for a while there was some withdrawals and there was like a shifting that happened, but then there was more fulfillment that came from letting it go. And I've always known in the background that if I were to give up like 90% of the social media consuming that I do, I would feel so much more free. Same with television at night. So what I did is after meeting up with my friends and noticing they don't watch television and just seeing their energy and I was like, you know what, maybe I should, I just had a feeling there was something intuitively here. So what I did is I decided to cold turkey a few days ago, stop. Consuming. I was on my phone last couple days, literally for 20 minutes just to post something. That's it, just to, you know, 'cause that's what I do for a living. But other than that, no scrolling, no more watching television while I eat, no more watching television at night. Now I've got books, I've got Himalayan salt lamps, and let me tell you, my sleep has been deeper than it has been all, like, for years. Yes, there's probably a dopamine being calibrated, but I feel more mentally clear. I have more inspirational ideas. I feel more focused. I feel like more balanced. Instead of just consuming and being on my couch or watching stuff, now I'm going outside more often. I'm going on hikes. I'm in nature. And when you're in nature, instead of dopamine, you're actually feeling more oxytocin. Which is a more connective love hormone that a mom feels with their baby. When you're in nature, you feel more connected. So it's interesting. It's like, yes, I'm not as stimulated with high dopamine and low like crashes, but I feel way more balanced. And I've been making videos, I've been, which is like, it's creating, not consuming, right? I've been in there creating some things. And my realization has been that there's a whole new dimension of energy that I have that I have not had before because I was so addicted to my phone. Everything is so fragmented. Like we're so fragmented into, our attention is so fragmented. And think about it, your life is an accumulation of the attention and the intention that you have. And people, like I think there are people on the planet that understand that if people's attention is used in a certain way, it takes away, you know, it's like people are much easier to control. Do you know, I didn't mention this earlier, but if you go to China and TikTok in China, what the kids see there is they see like other kids doing amazing things. They see like artists and kids doing awesome stuff and it's very inspiring. And it's that, it's just there's a certain reason it's that way 'cause they want the kids to grow up to be achievers and to, you know, have positive influence. You come to the States, what do you think kids see on the algorithm in the States for Instagram? Not the same. Superficial things, things that like you compare, you constantly comparing ourselves to other people, things that just are very polarizing. It's like the opposite. But we just put our attention towards these things and it's influencing our subconscious mind. Probably sounds like an esoteric thing, but I'll tell you what, when I'm consuming a lot and I go to bed at night, I got songs stuck in my head, I got little bits stuck in my head that I remember. I wake up in the morning sometimes and I can, I remember those. Well, imagine if you just completely stopped doing that. Well, this is what I did recently and it's like a whole new energy that I have about myself, how I carry myself, the energy that I have, and that means like now what I'm doing is I'm gonna be buying more books. I'm gonna be getting a Kindle where it's not so stimulating 'cause even like my iPad at night, normally I would read at night through my iPad, but I want less blue light. I'm like, I really see the benefit of this. And let me say this as well. I'm not saying that you have to never look at your phone again or never watch Netflix or never watch shows or can't enjoy life. What I'm saying is become aware of where it is conscious and where it is unconscious, where you choose it instead of it kind of like having you in the autopilot just naturally do it. So for me, what I imagine in a few weeks this'll look like is I will redefine what my boundaries are around social media. And it will probably look something like I get up and for the first 3 or 4 hours of the day, I don't go on my phone at all. Then maybe I do something on my phone that I need to do. Reach out to my team. I do, I still go on my computer to work, but it's like different. It's like business. It's not, I'm not just like watching YouTube videos, et cetera, which I normally would do. I'd be like working, watching a YouTube video, working. Now it's like more focused. And then at night, if I do watch a show, it'll be like one show, but it'll be more than 3 hours before I go to bed so that I'm really mentally cleared and like have a nice wind-down routine. And that's how I imagine it'll eventually look for me. Something more like that, 'cause I know some people, if you're in a relationship, you know, it's nice to watch, you know, their girlfriend or boyfriend. It's nice to watch something together sometimes, you know, but there's also, it's nice to talk to each other as well. Nice to be present with each other. So I understand that there's these different dynamics. I'm not saying you have to completely cut it out, but what if for 7 days you completely cut out social media or consuming? What if for 7 days you pulled your energy back and you just documented what happened? And how about we do that? We're gonna, in my High Vibe Tribe, it's a free community, I'm gonna post this video at the top of that community and everyone can go through 7-day social media detox where at the end of it, you share your experience. And maybe that detox for you is just doing an hour a day or less, but you consciously choose what that is and then 3 or 4 hours before bedtime, maybe you don't watch anything, maybe you read, maybe you focus on connecting with people or going out in nature or connect with your animal and you just document what is your sleep like? How do you feel with people? Do you feel less anxiety? Do you feel more motivated? I could tell you that I have more inspired business ideas now the last few days than I have for months. Because my mind is less cluttered. It's funny, I was watching this, two people, there was this interview with Theo Von and this guy named Danny McBride, I think his name is. He's a funny comedian actor and he's not on social media at all. And a few weeks ago, I remember watching parts of this and I remember him saying like why he doesn't have social media and how he's like so clear when he's so creative with his directing. He's in this show called Righteous Gemstones. And I remember seeing that and just kind of stood out to me. I was like, yeah, I bet that would be powerful, but for other people, right? And then this other guy, his name's Sean O'Malley, he's a UFC fighter, but he talked about on this thing, this press conference thing, he was talking about, or no, his podcast, he was talking about how he gave up smoking, I believe, and then he also gave up social media. He's got someone else that runs his social media account now. And he says it's like a whole new dimension of energy. He's like, he wakes up, he's in nature, he's with his kid, he's like just training a lot 'cause he's a UFC fighter. And for 3 months, and this guy is all over social media, he's like this, he's a real character, he's got crazy hair. If he can give it up, I know I can give it up and I know you can give it up. And maybe you have similar, he's more focused than he's ever been. He's more present. You can tell from his energy, he's way more present. And maybe by you doing something similar, you're able to tap into more presence, more energy, more ideas. And maybe the biggest block to you experiencing a breakthrough in your life is just that there's been an attachment to your attention to other things. If you're seeing this video, then maybe deep down, your spirit, your soul knows it's time. It's time to focus on your passion and creating and less on fragmenting your energy towards all these other things that are happening. So now what my nightly routine looks like is when I eat, I eat at the table right over here. Instead of, I normally write down the top 10 things on my iPad, I now am writing the top 10 things that I learned throughout the day plus the 3 things I need to do the next day. I'm handwriting it. It's archaic. But I'm eating slowly when I eat. I'm eating present. I got a patio furniture set coming out here so I can eat outside 'cause I love being outside. I'm grounding myself a few times during the day where I go outside and I put my feet in earth. I know it sounds super, sounds interesting, right? But I feel so much more grounded. I'm now, I look forward to nature. I look forward to going to the gym because my dopamine's not going to all these other things. I have more energy at the gym. I had a leg day yesterday and it was like I looked forward to it, which I never do. I always kind of like, I'm so burned out by all the day's stuff going on that by the time I get there, I'm like, ah, there's another thing I gotta do. I was on a meeting yesterday with someone from my team and I felt more connected and just like it was a much better flow and it was because I was just not so stimulated. I was so excited too about this shift that I'm experiencing. So now what I'm gonna be doing is, I'll be reading more. I've got a little flute, like a Native American flute that I play sometimes. And like I said, after a week of this, I might go back to occasionally watching stuff, but it'll be consciously, not unconsciously. And then my phone is social media. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna get in, post my thing, get out. Sometimes I might do an Instagram story or promote a live event that I have coming up. Ironically enough as well, I have a live event that I've been promoting that just completely sold out yesterday. But it was funny, the day that I quit, a few days ago when I quit, it's like once I just made the decision to quit social media, like consuming, it's like my energy shifted and I had 4 people buy tickets within like, it was so random 'cause for days there weren't many tickets being sold even though we were like 90-something percent sold out. But it was a good synchronicity to me. I really feel like This will sound esoteric, but there's this, you know, there's books that kind of talk about this, the power of Ho'oponopono and cleaning your energetic field. But your outer reality is a reflection of the inner shifts that you make. And things seem to really align when I'm present, seem things to really align when my mind's not fragmented into all these other things. And it reminds me of this guy that I knew in Costa Rica who, was who had, he had such present energy. And when I met him, he was actually a shaman from this plant medicine place like years ago. But I remember meeting him and I remember asking him why his energy was just so, he was so magnetic and so calm. But just from being around him, you felt like high. I've never experienced that before. Always thought that was kind of like this woo-woo esoteric thing called Shakti or whatever. But he told me that for 10 years straight, he meditated for like hours a day. And he had such present energy and it was so magnetic to be around. And I remember when I, he gave me, I got a hug on one of the last day ceremonies and I felt for hours, I felt so calm and like I felt that that energy rubbed off on me. And I always kind of remembered that. And the reason I say that now is I believe that by us not being so fragmented into social media, it's like we bring our energy back more into our present moment, into our bodies, and we literally become more magnetic. And we attract more people that see your energy and they're gonna be more, it's more of an attractive energy. And it's also an energy that like you attract people based on the energy you're putting out. So if you're putting out like fragmented energy, comparing yourself to other people, feeling not enough, that will rub off. You'll attract people that resonate with that version of you. But if you're present into the moment and in your body, you're more magnetic. But maybe the biggest block that you've been experiencing is it's that your attention has been so fragmented 'cause of same thing it was for me, social media, scrolling, shows. And what if you took that away and you let that go for now and you watched what insights came into your life? It's been a few days since I recorded this video and there's a few more updates I wanna share with you. One is that everything is still going incredible. It's been 3 days since I've recorded that video. It's been almost a week now since I have completely cut out social media. I've completely shut off Netflix and watching things at night. And last night I think I slept for like 9.5, 10 hours. I've been doing research on it too, not in a phone. I've been just calling up the ethers. I'm just kidding. There is a little bit of research. I guess I technically am doing like, 10 to 15 minutes of screen time a day when I do look something up. But one of the things that it mentions that I learned about is that when you're in the process of detoxing from all of this stuff, your cortisol is massively reduced, which then means your body goes into recovery mode because you spent so long focused on like the external, which is a huge part of it. It's focusing on the external and seeing fear in the external causes us not to be in our body and not to be soothed and regulated. So part of it is focusing on that, the cortisol going up, but because the cortisol going down, and because cortisol goes down, it's like your bodily, your body finally goes into the deepest level recovery. You may have not even remembered what that's like since you were a baby. It's like the whole body relaxes and there is this recovery deep sleep that you get that you normally don't get that much of. Like, I remember when I would look inside what is called a Whoop, this technology that I used to wear, I no longer wear, but it would show how much sleep I got at night and then how much deep sleep, how much REM sleep, et cetera. You'd average like just an hour, hour and a half maybe of deepest level sleep. I would guesstimate that now I am getting like double that amount of deep sleep and it's like a completely different level of rejuvenation. I took a cold shower this morning and it was probably one of like the most, I felt so in like so much vitality from that cold shower. And here's the crazy thing, it wasn't cringe like it usually is. Like normally when I'm going to my phone and I get up and it's like I've got this dopamine depletion, I go in the water and I'm like, oh my goodness. I welcomed it because it was like new dopamine to my system or something, but it was like I loved it. And then it's like I feel even more revitalized now. So everything's been continuing to go amazing with this experience. I'm going to for sure keep it in my life. Now, there's one other thing I wanted to mention though, and that is that another aspect of this that I did even before I completely cut out social media is I would, instead of watching like random BS, what I would do is I would only watch things that were good for my nervous system. So for me, that was watching more things that I was interested in learning. So it would be like watching, for me, it was watching Carl Jung videos that were very slow. They were just literally like this guy's voice talking about like concepts from Carl Jung. It wasn't the most stimulating, but I won't watch that at night, even though now I would never watch it at night at all 'cause I don't want any screen time, but that was a huge game changer. So one thing I'd recommend, because let's be practical, are we all gonna completely cut out social media forever? Probably not completely, but one huge step is to unfollow things that are really shocking to your nervous system. So on Instagram, if you were to go and unfollow all the stuff that you know is just mind-numbing you, that's not adding value to your life, that's not priming your subconscious in a positive way, right then, that's a very powerful step that you could take. Now, the next thing is have certain rules. One of the rules is no, no screen time 2 or 3 hours before bed. But if you do, maybe you watch one show or you watch something that's beneficial for your nervous system or for your subconscious. That's another thing that could be very powerful. If you are on social media, unfollow the things that are not good for you, and make sure that you're only consuming your subconscious with positive influence. That's another thing that I think could be very powerful. So these are little ways and things that sound small but can make a huge dramatic difference. This is the update. I've got a lot more books now. These are, I've been reading a lot of, I'm 200-page deep in "Autobiography of a Yogi," "which is one of my favorite books." I went to this used bookstore here in Sedona and I got like, some of these books are like amazing, incredible books I got for $3 each. I spent $30 on like 10 books at this place and some of them were my favorite books I was just rebuying. But nonetheless, like at nighttime, I look forward, I look forward now to reading at night. Like what I do is I turn on that fireplace, I turn on that Himalayan salt lamp, I read, and I like feel more dopamine. Like I was having this joke the other day. I was like cooking eggs and I was like, I get dopamine from cooking eggs now. Like just being sarcastic, but like this is making me feel dopamine just watching eggs cook, which of course I'm just being sarcastic. But like that's the level of what's happening is the first 3 to 7 days is the dopamine receptors are being restored. And sensitivity is being restored in the dopamine receptors, which means that it's like you get dopamine from like going out in nature. You get dopamine from like these things that are very slow burning, but you feel good and there's no crash from it. Like I could go ground myself right now and I'm not like gonna crash for an hour and a half afterwards, you know? Just all beneficial things. So that's also something I really recommend is just guarding your attention and your subconscious and not listen, even music. Right now, this first week, I'm not listening to almost any music at all except for theta music, like theta beats. It's like white noise almost. In the future, I will be listening to chill music, but not pop music that like reprograms the mind in a negative way. A lot of the stuff that we listen to nowadays is music that's modern, is like you listen to it and it's like, It's just stuff that's not good for the subconscious. I'm gonna be mindful. I'm still gonna enjoy music, of course. It's just gonna be with more conscious awareness. And that's honestly the thing behind this whole entire thing that we're talking about. It's understanding that social media, normally we don't use social media. Social media uses us. That's the thing. Most people are in their phones, including myself up till a week ago, is in the phone, just, it was using me. It was like the algorithms are set up to keep you addicted, to keep you engaged, to keep you programming your mind. And then you're seeing hypervigilance in the external, the fear's in the external, there's identity to the external, and there's this constant internal turmoil and chaos. There's this constant internal feeling of not being safe. And then if you're not feeling safe, your cortisol levels are up. Even like if you ever watch something and like you watch someone do a prank or something or someone wipe out and then you almost feel their wipeout. You're like, ugh. You watch them like run into a wall and you're like, ugh, like that. Or you watch people that are walking on those high beams in the skyscrapers and you're like, oh my gosh, I'd feel so nervous. You are feeling cortisol when you watch that. You are, and it's like some people like the thrill of it, they like the dopamine from watching it, but guess what? That's going into your system and that's setting the fight or flight response to your system. So something that I'd recommend is when you start detoxing from this, your body will relax, you're going to a deep level of recovery, but then eventually what happens is your hormones balance out. For men, your testosterone will go up. This is something that you don't read inside that of ChatGPT or in like books. It doesn't really emphasize the power of not scrolling and not being dopamine addicted to shows and stuff like that. But literally testosterone recovery, 'cause your sleep goes up, it's gonna affect your testosterone. But my recovery from my gym workouts is incredible. My gym, I'm progressing on every lift at my gym. I can feel that just so much in my life has changed because of this one thing. Now, something I'm gonna be doing in the High Vibe Tribe is I'm gonna be announcing some form of maybe 14-day social media detox program or something where we can consciously learn how to use social media. I'm gonna show you how to go through the first 7 days of doing a total detox, and then maybe 7 to 14 is where you learn how to re-consciously integrate it with awareness. So that moving forward you can take that with you. This has been one of the most life-transforming things that I've experienced over the last 5 years, and I wanna create something that like really helps people to integrate it and consciously live it. And I can't wait to see the breakthroughs from people because it is that powerful. So if you, I'm gonna be announcing this in the High Vibe Tribe. If you click the link below, you'll see that you can get into the High Vibe Tribe, it's free. And I'll be posting at the top when and what we're gonna be doing for this. And let me know if you're in. I'll pin some post to the top so that you can just comment to it, and we will go from there, and we will do this as a container. I think that makes it way more powerful when there's a container of us doing it together. It's very empowering and it keeps us all focused. So with that being said, that's it for today. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go shift into just being for the next 8 hours. But in all seriousness, I do still work. I do still make videos. That's another big shift, by the way, is I've shifted from just consuming to creating. I create more videos now. I was not creating videos like this for literally months because I didn't have energy. I was too dopamine depleted. Yes, still I'm gonna be doing, like I'm running a live event next weekend here in Sedona. That live event is where most of my content will come for this YouTube channel. But I'm not opposed to making videos every now and then because guess what? I have energy again. I'm not dopamine depleted as much. Watch how much you become a creator in your life when you stop being a consumer. You have so much more energy to create, whether that's your business, your passion, more motivation. It makes such a difference. So with that being said, I'll see you in the next video. As always, peace, much love, and namaste.

If you can see this, you're about to become so magnetic you are unrecognizable
