In this short conversational excerpt, Speaker A expresses frustration about constantly giving energy—over‑giving, over‑sharing, and over‑investing—without receiving reciprocal appreciation, leading to feeling drained. Speaker B probes the perceived payoff of oversharing and suggests two ways to protect one’s energy. The first is a visual “energetic shield” or bubble imagined around the body to block others’ energy. Speaker B critiques this method, arguing it reinforces a belief that others can deeply affect you and puts you on “eggshells” constantly monitoring external energy. The dialogue highlights the tension between wanting to stay open and vulnerable while seeking practical strategies to prevent emotional exhaustion when reciprocity fails.

How do you protect your energy? So I have a lot of energy. I have no walls. So I overgive, overshare, overinvest. But how do I protect myself where, let's say, it doesn't open an amazing door? I feel drained and it's just overwhelming. How do you deal with that negative energy?
When you overshare, right? What is the payoff to oversharing?
Somebody will overshare as well, and there's a payoff there.
When you overshare, there is this, this reciprocation that happens.
Okay.
So it's like if you're vulnerable, right, maybe somebody else will open up and be vulnerable to you too. What about when it doesn't happen?
It sucks. Yeah, it's like, okay, well, I guess they just don't appreciate where I'm coming from.
Why is it important that they appreciate where you're coming from?
It's not. I just wish I could protect myself when it doesn't work out. It's a lot of energy you're putting out and it's draining.
Well, there's two ways to look at this. On one hand, what some people do is they'll say you should build an energetic shield around your body where what you do is you imagine a bubble and then everywhere you go, it just like, it's like that, but their stuff doesn't get into your stuff.
Okay.
That's one way. I'm not a huge proponent of that because it also infuses this belief that other people have the ability to impact you in that such deep, powerful way. It's like we're on eggshells around everyone's energy. Like who's got the stuff that's gonna leak into my field, right?
Right.
But what could be even more powerful to look at is what are your beliefs about people? What are your beliefs about energy?
