Once you decide everything will work out, it will

Aaron Doughty went from selling shoes to building a 100k-follower YouTube channel by deciding at the identity level rather than just thinking differently. He breaks down three blocks that stop change: misaligned thoughts, unprocessed emotions, and contradictory actions, all rooted in childhood patterns like perfectionism and people-pleasing. Real change happens when you observe your thoughts, feel your emotions without controlling them, and take consistent action to rewrite who you are.

What if you could simply decide that things will work out and they did? What if there was this little secret about the way in which you relate to reality that determines literally what you perceive in your reality? And that when you are in the energy of wanting things to work out, you're in the energy of desire, which is lack. When you're in the energy of doing things to get somewhere else, you're in the energy of this moment right here is not good enough the way that it is. But what if there was a way in which you could decide from the identity level that would completely transform your life from the inside out? This is exactly what I did back in 2017 that allowed me to go from a 9-to-5 job goer selling women's shoes to having over 100,000 followers on YouTube within 6 months, and then also from YouTube into traveling the world, running live events, helping people transform live on stage, I made a choice at the level of the being, the identity. So in this video, I'm gonna show you how to transform at the level of being so that you decide to be that version of you every day. I'm gonna show you how to transform old meaning and release old unprocessed emotion from the body that's actually blocking what you want. And I'm gonna show you how to actually let it be natural for your identity to be in love, to be in connection, and to be in abundance and wealth as well, even if it's never felt familiar to the past. So let's get into it right now. So for me, back in 2017, what I did is I made a decision from the level of my identity. I made a decision to make videos every single day on YouTube no matter what, and that was the process I was committing to. So recognize first off that your identity is what you commit to. You could in a way say it's what you decide and who you decide you are, But the thing to really understand with this entire process is it really is a matter of the energy you are embodying. This isn't a mental thing. Mental is a component of it, but here's where most people get blocked. Most people have one of three things that gets blocked inside of their body and their energy. That literally blocks their frequency or blocks them from experiencing what they want. Either their thoughts are in contradictory alignment with what they want, so they may be consuming lots of content, focused on other things, or doubting that they can even accomplish what they want, even though they might be feeling it from a certain level in meditation and taking action. So belief is a part of it. The other second thing that might block people is maybe they're thinking of what they want and they're taking action, but they feel repressed energy underneath the surface. They feel a certain level of shame, and you can feel underneath their energy that they're not as magnetic as they could be because there's unprocessed energy under the surface. One of the things I've always understood about the content that I share on YouTube is that people feel what I feel. Like, the energy that I feel in my body while I'm making videos is something that energetically people tune to. And even though I might be saying just about the same dang thing in a lot of videos, You might still be listening. You might find that every now and then you're like, "I've heard that before," but deeper, there's an energy there that draws you in because people feel what you feel. And the more you clean out your energy and release unprocessed energy underneath the surface, the more magnetic you are and the more people feel drawn to you. So part of the decision for you to become this new version of you is making a decision to process one of these three layers to see where your block might be. And there might be a block even under that, that once you become aware of, shifts everything, that I'll share with you in a minute. So you could say that there's unprocessed energy there and that blocks you from deciding to do it. So for me, back in 2012, when I— or 2017, when I made daily videos on YouTube, there were a lot of emotional blocks that came up. I didn't feel credible. I was worried about what my friends from high school would think. And what happens is that energy would block me and I would then stop from making videos. But remember, a decision is something you decide from your level of being. I was being a full-time YouTuber in February of 2017. And part of being a YouTuber meant that if I'm going to take action every day, make videos every day, even if they're not doing that well, I knew that the more reps I put in, the more that that would become my dominant reality. I decided that I was gonna commit to the process more than I was gonna commit to needing to be some way to get some other result to escape where I am in the present moment right now. So this is one of the keys that we'll talk about in a minute that changes everything, okay? So first off, now let's look where the other block might be. So there may be blocks around thinking, feeling, or acting. And what my friend did from high school back in the days, he's like, when, I'm on tour and I'm a famous musician. Win, win, win. And then I remember we had this one friend that would like trigger him and he would say, "If." And then my friend would be like, "Don't say that, you're negative." No, if that happens, like, and here's the thing, when you begin to embody a new you, you may believe it, but if you are looking for other people to affirm that reality, you don't really believe it. If you really believe it, even in the face of other people, you're committed to the process and it's okay. When I first got on YouTube, I remember seeing friends and even one of my, I remember one of my sisters, for example, she was like, I was like, oh, I'd already started making daily videos. And she's like, you gonna go make videos for your, I think 35 subscribers or 200 subscribers or whatever it was. I could have stopped in that moment, but I chose to keep going because I chose, I decided that that is who I'm going to be. Do you see the difference in the energy there? A decision means to cut off other options. And to cut off other options means you commit, you commit to that version of you. And in a moment, I'm gonna share with you a consciousness shift of this idea as well, because We can learn it from this level. So if you're watching this video right now, maybe something in that you just became aware of that maybe to decide something will work out and then it will, it's about realizing that your thinking, your feeling, and your acting, if one of these is not in alignment and you have blocks, the key is to become aware, observe those, Observe the thinking, not identifying with it. Observe the emotions, let it be there instead of trying to control it. And then taking action. Are you taking action or not? And committing to it means being it consistently even when it feels unfamiliar. I remember for a long time, even for when imposter syndrome would come up and I would see this like, I would be like, "Is this the real me? No, the real me is the 9-to-5 job real me." One of the things I realized is that that 9-to-5 job version of me was actually the real imposter because I was pretending for years to be a 9-to-5 job goer. But guess what? That wasn't really me. That was me still in a childhood pattern. That was me just playing out the dynamics that felt familiar to childhood where I had a boss tell me what to do and this is who I am and I don't like it, but it is the reality. I had to, in a way, break my core, break part of my core pattern to get into the energy of really being this new version of me. And it is, here's the missing key for so many people watching this, to really decide means there is most likely a core pattern from childhood you're gonna have to begin to integrate. And that's the thing that always holds you back. Because if you have a childhood pattern around being afraid to be seen, well, guess what? When you start putting yourself out there, you start expressing the real you, you're gonna be seen. When you're afraid of tension from other people, and you start to actually express how you really feel, that's a block that will come up that will keep you in the childhood pattern that feels familiar. So a big part of this decision that you make is about recognizing that you're making a decision, a choice to be the most authentic version of you. Not because of what it'll get you, but because it's who you choose to be. And one of the things you wanna become aware of also is what is your identity under the surface? And this is like part of the deeper level here that we'll talk about for a moment. Your identity, how you view yourself, you are thinking, feeling, and acting equal to that identity. Until you become aware of that identity and become aware that that identity subconsciously is fighting to keep you in familiar, it will run your life. And making a decision literally means to abandon your old identity. Let that settle in for a moment. Your old identity has brought you safety. Your old identity has brought you, even if it's survival mode, it's got you by. So now what we're gonna do is we're gonna create a shift and we're gonna decide that everything's gonna work out. And we're gonna start being this new version of ourselves. But there's a part of you that you're literally gonna feel like you're abandoning. You might feel like you're gonna be abandoned by friends and family if you step into a new you. You might feel like you're gonna abandon a part of yourself. And something you wanna realize is what you're really learning to do, if you want the deeper level of this, of how to move forward, is you want to see, hear, soothe, and nurture that part of you that's afraid to be abandoned, the part of you that's inside the childhood pattern. So in a way, when you think of this, think of like when you make a choice from the level of an identity, like I made a choice back in 2017 that I'm gonna make daily videos. That was coming from a level of presence. It wasn't just a mental thing. When I got into a flow state, there was more presence underneath the surface, and people would feel what I felt. And that's what attracted people to my content, and that's why I went from 0 to 100,000 followers in 6 months. Every time I showed up, I got more comfortable and familiar. Every time I showed up and I got into a flow state, something greater than me flow through. So that was the identity that was beginning to form inside of myself, but it wasn't an identity like I sat up every morning and said, "I'm going to be YouTuber now. How do I model the actions?" It wasn't a mental thing. It was a flow that happened as I released the old identity of the full-time version of myself. But what I had to do is I had to decide to get into the flow state. I had to decide to be more present. And part of that initiation is this. And if there's one thing you get from this video, I think this can completely transform your life. It's understanding that the block to this decision that everything will work out is partially a block because there's an old identity under the surface of who you believed you had to be as a kid in order to get your needs met, in order to get the approval or validation. So if as a kid you had one of the 6 core patterns, as I call it, there's different core patterns, there's people pleasing, there's being invisible, There's controlling, self-reliance and independence, overgiving. These are all different patterns. Perfectionism is another one. These are all patterns of who you had to be as a kid. Well, guess what? To make the decision to be that new version of you, one of these core patterns might be under the surface and you might feel like you're subconsciously leaving that part of yourself. And the key to this is to actually accept that part of you. I have a saying that goes, you can't change the pattern from the level of the pattern. You have to, in a way, accept that pattern, acknowledge it, and then you begin to become more free because you begin to integrate another aspect of you. So one of the things to realize about this reality is that nothing has any built-in meaning other than the meaning you give it, which means that at any moment, you are the one that is choosing. Remember, ABC, always be choosing. And what you are always choosing is the meaning you give things. And if I chose a meaning in 2017 of what brings me fulfillment, for me to get into a flow state to be making videos, and then I embody it, and then I embody it again. And what happened after that? Oh yeah, I embodied again. And you put in enough reps, it becomes a part of who you are. And what happened is with repetition, that became something that I chose. But what a lot of people do is they choose it and then they let something else draw them away from it. They let doubt creep in because of what their friends or family will think. They let somebody else get in their ear and then they don't choose it anymore. They choose to instead be at the whims of other people. They choose to be back in the childhood pattern many times where things happen to you, not for you. So the key to this is recognizing that you do choose what things mean in your life And at any moment, if you give something a positive meaning, you can't help but get a positive effect out of it. Even if something negative happens and you give it a positive meaning, that may— that positive meaning you give it will lead to more insights, more awareness, or a better timeline due to that energy. It's a neutral thing though, remember that. You're the one giving things meaning. So you decide that things will work out and they will. It's just what is your definition for things working out? Because many people want to become a new version of themselves, but in order for it to work out, what that means is everything needs to be really, really good and positive. Instead of the tension being created for you to become the version of you where these things are natural. When I look at my life over the last 8 years, I've had a lot of amazing things that have happened in my life. I've also had a lot of things that were very challenging and hard. The things that were very challenging and hard were the— some of the biggest gifts and the gold that allowed me to become the kind of person I am today. Where I can handle high-stress experiences. I can handle going on stage in front of hundreds of people with no planned content whatsoever. I— to get to this place now, I had to go through some pretty uncomfortable emotions. So when I say decide everything will work out, and it will, understand this: it will work out, but if you accept yourself on the journey and all the things that you'll experience along the way and see it as a part of the larger vision of the things you will learn, you will become the person where it is normal to your nervous system to be in that reality. Because it would be ridiculous to say, just decide you will be given all of these things or win the lottery or get that job immediately when you apply. And then if it doesn't, you're like, Aaron, he said to everything, decide everything will happen and it will. Remember though, you choose what meaning you give things and you choose when it's time to give up. I remember when I used to work at Nordstrom's in women's shoes at the rack, I got paid hourly. I got paid like $10 an hour back in 2007 to 2010. And I wanted to go to the full line store where you got paid $20, $30 an hour commission job. I wanted to transfer over. I was told that if I stayed for 6 months at that job, that I could then transfer after the 6 months. I stayed for 6 months, was a great employee. After the end of 6 months, I said, "I wanna go to the full-line store now. It's been 6 months." They said, "No." They said, "You're not going to the full-line store because you're not ready." I said, "What do you mean I'm not ready? I'm like the best employee here. I show up consistently." They had a high turnover rate at that Nordstrom's Rack. So they didn't want me to go to the full-line store because they wanted me to stay because I was a good employee. I knew that, I could sense that. So what I decided to do is I decided to go to the full-line store. I decided to talk to the manager of the whole entire store, which took like 20 minutes. I had to basically pretend that I had a customer issue because that was the only way they would bring the store manager down. It was a 3-story big store. Down comes this woman named Lori Jo, lady with short blonde hair. It was like kind of a boss chick that was like, came over and I just explained it to her. I said, "Listen, these people at The Rack, they're corrupt. They are running an operation where they're trying to keep me trapped working a 9 to 5 job I don't like and we have to do something about it." I'm just kidding, I didn't say that. I said, "Listen," I said, "I am highly motivated." "I want to get paid commission. I want to become a top salesperson. I want to work here in women's shoes. I've been working for 6 months over there. I put in the request, but they're not allowing me to come over 'cause they say I'm not ready. I feel they're saying I'm not ready 'cause I'm a good employee and there's a high turnover rate." She understood. She said, "Okay, I'm going to see what I can do." I go back, I get a call to the office the next day, and you want to get— I got told? I got told, "We don't think you're ready, but we're gonna let you go anyways. We don't think it, we're setting you up for failure, but we're gonna let you go." And I said, "Okay, cool, I'll go fail." I went over to the full-line store. Within 2 or 3 months, I was considered an all-star, somebody that like gave the best customer service. My people pleaser overgiving pattern paid off in retail sales. And guess what? I went to a department meeting, a store meeting where even the Rack came, the managers from the Rack came. And I got called up to the front for being one of the top salespeople and an all-star. And I remember making eye contact with those managers thinking to myself, did you set me up for failure? The reason I share this story is at any moment I could have been like, I'm gonna go to the Fuland store. And I go and then, and they say no. And I say, okay, I decided, but he said no. Sometimes decision happens and there's bumps that come up along the way, but guess what? You find a way to go through it. You don't let that hold you back. You are the one that decides and you are the one that decides to not decide any longer. But to you become this new version of you, guess what? You must take action consistently. You must show up every day. You must recognize that even though it might not make sense in the moment, maybe this is a larger picture of your life and the person you will become is somebody that's even more resilient than you can imagine. Okay, so let's look at this. First off, your identity is a very important part of a thing to become aware of. Your self-image. Become aware also that the actions you're taking, if you're coming like, I'm a 9-to-5 job goer, that's my identity, and I'm gonna be a YouTuber, you will find resistance with that like I did because I'm like, it's not in alignment with like, my identity, I switched my identity to realize this is the real me. This was who I pretended to be for a long period of time, this 9-to-5 job goer. With consistency, this was unfamiliar, with consistency of choosing it every day, whether videos went well or not, it was consistency, I became the person, I learned, I became resourceful, I became someone that was always learning, I learned how to edit videos, I learned thumbnails that would convert well and people would click on, I'd learn about topics I was passionate about, I became this version of me. And then eventually I used that same thing to become a person that runs live events, that hot seat coaches people live on stage. Same thing, it was unfamiliar for a while. I was like, you know what? This has brought me a lot of safety making videos for 8 years. This is actually more in alignment with who I am. The decision that I've made at each of these levels wasn't a decision from the level of the identity, And it was a decision knowing that any adversity that would come up in the process was a part of the person I was becoming. So let that tension be your initiation into a new you. It's like if you were thinking of deciding that people aren't gonna affect me anymore and I'm gonna shed the people-pleasing pattern, for example. The moment tension comes up, you say, "Nope, I'm gonna decide not to anymore." You have to decide even if it's uncomfortable. The uncomfortable is the goal. You have to decide even when your inner child stuff comes up and then see it, feel it, and let it be there. Acknowledge that part of you. This decision you're making is recognizing that meaning has— nothing has built-in meaning other than the meaning you give it. And one of the most powerful things to understand is that in any moment, you can allow yourself to show up consistently and decide who you are from a level of presence and identity. So when you look at having, doing, and being, many people are from the level of doing to get there. Doing, doing, doing. Who do I need to be to become successful? I need to take lots of action to get to the next level. I need to work harder to get to the next level. I need to, whatever the pattern is normally. I need to give more if it's an over-giver. I need to be, it's, or if you're invisible, I need to be seen. It feels uncomfortable. The person you become in this process is when you start to be it, not because of the results, but it's because it's who you choose to be. And realize that this is where things really begin to shift is when you shift from focusing on outcome to your state of being. And knowing that underneath the surface, this is who you really are.
