Once you ignore reality… you'll attract what you want

In this self‑help video Aaron Doughty argues that the degree to which we "ignore reality"—that is, stop assigning heavy meaning to our circumstances—determines how much resistance we experience. He explains that observation creates our personal reality, borrowing from quantum ideas that matter only manifests when observed. By noticing that our stories (e.g., feeling stuck, being single) generate nervous‑system responses, we can choose neutral or positive meanings, which in turn changes the information we attract. Doughty illustrates the principle with a recent airport‑delay experience, showing how surrendering the negative narrative turned the delay into a productive, creative period. He expands the framework with concepts from Reality Transurfing (pendulums as collective thought‑forms), the importance of releasing suppressed childhood emotions tied to parental dynamics, and the notion of a "second awakening"—a deeper shift beyond core patterns. Throughout, he offers practical advice on observing thoughts, feeling underlying emotions, and letting go, and promotes his free "High Vibe Starter Kit" course for deeper application.

What if the degree to which you ignore reality is the key to which you allow resistance to leave your life? What if feeling stuck or feeling single is something that— of a challenge that you have in your life because of your observation of it and the significance you give to it? This is something that quantum physics has shown, is that matter only exists in its form when we observe it. So could it be that our observation of being stuck actually creates more of a definition of us being stuck, which creates more of a reflection of being stuck? So therefore, ignoring reality really is the key to allowing resistance to leave and allowing to you to actually start to create more homeostasis inside of yourself, which then has the mere reality begin to change as a reflection. So in this video, I'm going to show you how reality is an illusion that shifts depending on your attention and observation of it. I'm going to show you the healthy way of actually ignoring reality and how this will completely transform your life in a powerful way from the inside out so that you don't find yourself getting stuck in the old things over and over again. Now, the first thing I want to say about this just in general is I have some videos that have come out recently on this idea of realizing that the less thoughts you think the higher your energy, your level of consciousness. When you can observe your thoughts, that's when you create space inside of yourself. When you can observe what is happening instead of reacting to what is happening, you don't get caught up in it and stuck to it. You know, often when I'm coaching people, they'll say things, they're, you know, our language patterns reveal what we believe to be true about ourselves. A lot of times, the main reason we might feel stuck is just because we believe we are. We tell ourselves we are, and feeling stuck might keep us from actually branching off into the unknown. So when we actually begin to take our power back, that's when we're taking aware— we're becoming aware of where our focus is. So one of the fundamental truths of this video, by the way, is something that's kind of scary to learn about reality, but it's also one of the most empowering things to learn. Are you ready for it? Nothing in our life has any meaning other than the meaning we give it. So when we look at a rainy day, a rainy day is not good, it's not bad. A rainy day just is. And what happens is our story of that is what determines our nervous system response, and our nervous system response will then find similar experiences in the world that we then tap into because of it. So like, for example, let me share with you a way that I could use this yesterday. So 2, 3 days ago, I went to Dallas. Because it was my birth— my girlfriend is in Dallas and it was her birthday kind of trip that we were doing. So I'm here in Sedona. I had to drive 2 hours to the airport, get on a flight to go celebrate with her. But in that experience, because it was a rainy day, let's use this example of a rainy day, a rainy day in Dallas when I was in Sedona driving to Phoenix to fly. Caused the flight I was on to be delayed by an hour and then another hour and then another hour and then another hour. See, here I am getting caught up in a story because I'm like, okay, I'm only— we're going there for 2 days and it's like gonna take— it was supposed to take 2 hours to get there, like a 2.5-hour flight, took 2 hours to drive there and like 4-hour delay. I ended up being a whole day thing of experience just to get to Dallas. And in it, what I became aware of was my story on the situation that was determining my nervous system response and the irritation I was feeling. But what was happening is because of that as well, it's like I wasn't able to enjoy the experience of going there. Now, here's the interesting thing to put it into perspective. What I ended up doing is I ended up using it as an opportunity to write a bunch of emails. Write a bunch of emails for my business. It actually ended up becoming extremely, extraordinarily productive. I'm like, "Wait, if every hour it's going to shift because I guess there's lightning in Dallas right now, I have no choice but to surrender or to be in pain." But the more— What's interesting is the more I would relax and not let the meaning be negative, the more creative ideas I would get for these emails that I was writing. And then once we get on the flight finally, we then begin to fly there. We get there and then there's like an hour on the runway before once again, we— I get off the plane so I go see my girlfriend. And what was interesting about that is as we were waiting, I ended up talking to the two people next to me. We ended up having a really good conversation. There were people behind me that were so irritated that they— there was this one guy that was just complaining like, this is ridiculous. Oh, what about this? AI is going to take their jobs. He was like trying to like rationalize just the suckiness of the situation. But his observation of it, it was like the observation of it was creating a response in his nervous system to where out of the 11 million bits of information around him, 'Cause we have 11 to 15 million bits of information around us at any given moment. We can only perceive of a small sliver of it, like 100 bits per second. So could it be that when his nervous system or even my nervous system was irritated of the situation, I would literally find other things to be irritated of, other things that would reinforce that energy inside my nervous system? So ignoring reality doesn't mean just like being delusional, although if reality is an illusion, maybe that's not such a negative thing in the sense that you are choosing your focus and you're choosing where you put it. So like I said, a rainy day does not have a positive meaning or a negative meaning. It depends on your perception of it. Imagine I had to go to Dallas and I had to do some presentation. And imagine I was behind on my presentation or, uh, research. And imagine being at the airport an extra 5 hours then gave me enough time to finish my research so that I could give a better talk. Gives it a different perspective, doesn't it? You see, our meaning is infused onto it. What enlightened people have said about reality is that because nothing has any built-in meaning and it's the meaning that we give it, it's like, that's what they've said. Well, actually what they've said is more about levels of consciousness that like enlightenment is not something you attain, it's something you naturally already are. It's almost like our meaning is what blocks us from seeing the divinity and the presence of who we naturally are. So when we talk about ignoring reality, what we're really ignoring is the significance to thought we give to our problems. And where we actually draw that is for our own internal authority. This reminds me of when I used to have that 9-to-5 job. I used to work at Nordstrom Rack where I got paid hourly. I wanted at one point to go to the full-line store because I found out that the people at the full-line Nordstrom store got paid commission. They got paid like $30 or $40 an hour depending on how much they sold. I was inspired by that. They told me at the rack that I worked at that if I worked there for 6 months, I could then transfer. I worked there for 6 months and I was a very good employee. They had a really high turnover rate. So after 6 months, I go, "Hey, I want to transfer." They said, "Heh, you're not ready." I said, "What do you mean I'm not ready? I'm like the best employee here." They wanted me to stay because they didn't like the high turnover. The high turnover rate now is consistent. I could have given significance to what they said and said, "Okay, you're right. I'll just stay here because you said so." Instead, what I did is I went to the full-line store. I said, "I want to speak to the store manager." Her name was Lori Jo. This lady, I didn't know her name. She just came down. Down comes the store manager. I said, "Hello, my name is Aaron and I want to work here. I am very motivated. I'm into personal development. I know we get paid commission. I'm excited about that." I said, "The people at the..." 'rack' don't want me over here. They say I'm not ready. I'm ready. I think they're saying that because I'm a good employee. And if I leave, they're gonna have to fill my spot. I just kind of— I did kind of throw them under the bus, if I'm being honest. But that was honestly what was happening. So what happened is I go back to the rack the next day and I get told, 'Hey, we don't think you're ready to go to the phone line store, but we're gonna let you go anyways.' Basically, that store manager allowed it, like pushed me to come no matter what. I did not give the significance to what they said as having the power over me. I chose to ignore what they said to move in the direction of what I wanted to. So realize there is a near reality delay when you start being a new you. Like when I first started making videos back in 2017, I would make videos like maybe once a week, and I would get a certain amount of views, not a lot, like 50. And then I started to make daily videos. I got even less views until momentum happened, and eventually things started to grow. I had to trust the mere reality delay. I had to trust that this is— it's almost like you're bringing more life and more presence into reality because it's who you choose to be, not because of the results it gets you. When you are trying to control and figure things out, that's coming from a level and a pattern of believing that your ego has to control it and make it happen. That's when you're not ignoring reality, you're trying to control reality, you're trying to manipulate reality. This is why surrender is so powerful. This is why when you begin to observe things from a neutral place, this is when, this is when reality will really start to get trippy for you because you can give a positive meaning to anything that has ever happened to you and see the positive in it. Will be what you get out of it. Like, we could look at some of the things— like, this is, this is what I honestly think spiritual awakening is. When you think of spiritual awakening, essay, spiritual awakening, spiritual awakening is when there were certain meanings, certain things that happened in your childhood that used to maybe limit you, and all of a sudden you give it new meaning. You realize, "Oh, that actually served me to create pressure that then allowed me to become aware that we are eternal spiritual beings living temporary human experiences." That's the ultimate reframe of meaning. You can only reframe meaning if meaning does not have any built-in meaning. It's one of the gifts we've been given from God. Nothing has any built-in meaning other than the meaning we give it. And if we choose to give things positive meaning or neutral meaning, we can then choose things in a powerful way. You know, it's interesting. We think, "Oh, just give everything a positive meaning." Sometimes that can be the case, but you might give something too much significance of meaning. And what happens is it's like you want it, you want it, you want it, you're thinking about it, you end up resisting it. Because you're giving it excess meaning. So some of these ideas I'm sharing right now come from a book called Reality Transurfing. There's this whole idea in there about this idea called pendulums. It's these thought forms that come from our collective consciousness. And the idea is that there's pendulums around anything where there's millions of people or thousands of people focused on that thing. There are pendulums around being, um, whatever political party you're in. There's pendulums around sports teams. There's pendulums around, uh, the White House. There's pendulums around— money is a pendulum. When you think of, uh, this YouTube channel is a pendulum. Pendulums aren't always negative, but when many people focus on them, they feed the pendulum. And what happens is pendulums, like certain songs are pendulums. And what happens is people many times are lost in pendulums. They're lost in reacting to thought forms. I want this team to win. No, that team sucks. What's your version of a pendulum? Pendulum is anything that there's multiple people focused on something at significant figures in our life. That we see pendulums around them. And you fight— you can't fight a pendulum. Fighting it feeds it. You observe it, and that's how you take your power back. You observe it. I'm good either way. I have many videos that talk about how you could be good either way. And when you're good either way, that's when you're really in more freedom, when you can observe it. And let it be. Now, when you think of it as well, so your reaction feeds the old. The suppressed emotion is like the glue that attracts certain things into your life. So when we say observe, like ignore reality, it doesn't mean suppress energy. It means allow yourself to feel it in the present moment. Let it be there. And as you do, it begins to release inside of your body. But if you don't allow yourself to feel those emotions, you attract to you things that are in response to that energy that's suppressed under the surface. So it's like your job is to understand and realize that the emotion that you feel, if you can give yourself a safe space to feel the emotion that's underneath the surface, that's when you'll begin to clear your energetic, the energy. Like if you think about it, like there's 11 to 15 million bits of information around you. What is reflected to us is what energy is active inside of us, whether it's unconscious or conscious, it's there. So this is why I believe that one of the missing keys for so many people is that they have unconscious or subconscious energy that they're not aware of that's unprocessed from childhood. And this is why people tend to create the same experiences over and over again. This is why much of what I teach in coaching is understanding the mother-father-child dynamic. Where the relationship you had with your mom and dad as a kid, or your family system, very powerfully has primed you to what is normal, what you subconsciously pay attention to, to then what you end up experiencing and attracting to your life in the mirror of reality. Because reality is a mirror. It is mirroring back what's been subconscious or unconscious. So when you go back to this energy, you realize that your mom and dad modeled the relationship you have with relationships. The relationship to your mom, relationship is your relationship to relationships as well, because your mom is your first relationship. Dad is purpose, abundance, money. You realize that these are the things that have caused the core, what I call the core, your core stories or your core challenges, okay? Your core challenges come many times as they stem from this. So if you have a core challenge around abandonment, feel not feeling chosen, or you have a core challenge around feeling self-reliant, like you got to do it all yourself, or you're a people pleaser and you need to please every other people in your life, those energies stay creating the mere reality to reflect back those energy dynamics. Part of the reason being is one of the things you're learning to do is you're learning to embrace the other side. Might be your dark side, the subconscious side. So it's like reality can't shift if you haven't released the suppressed emotion underneath the surface, underneath the surface. And if you haven't learned how to feel, heal, and release that energy and become aware of what the core is for you, because these are the things you'll give most significance to. So some of the things to realize about this is when you think less thoughts, you'll have a higher vibration. When you are in a flow state, you're thinking less thoughts. When you're having fun, You're thinking less thoughts. When you're embraced into the— immersed into the process, you're having less thoughts. You're not giving significance to thoughts. When you're trying to figure things out, you're lost up in thought. When you're giving significance to your problems, believing that what you think is reality in the sense that you're reacting to your thinking, you're giving significance to thought. When did you start to believe that your thinking was reality? This is when, by the way, you see like people like Byron Katie, she has something called The Work. It's 4 simple questions. Is this true? Can I absolutely know that it's true? How do I respond when I believe that thought? Who would I be without it? This begins to free you from the significance you give to thinking. So observing your thoughts from a neutral place allows you to begin taking your power back. Ignoring the meaning you give to certain things allows you to take your power back. And I, just like I ignored— you can use this for willpower— I ignored what the managers told me, right? You're not ready. I went ahead anyways and made my own, became resourceful in my own way. Ignoring even the meaning yesterday when I was on— a couple days ago, I was on the flight, and allowing myself to instead choose the meaning I give it. Be productive anyways. Recognize the story that comes up. This is when you begin to take your power back in a very powerful way. And when you begin holding your own frame of reality, which many people may subconsciously be looking for other people to give them frame, to give them authority, so I could be good enough. Who did you have to be as a kid to receive mom and dad's love? This is the deeper layer here. And when you can begin to observe these patterns, observe this energy, this is when you begin to be in a powerful state of consciousness. So holding your frame may mean standing up for yourself. It may be feeling the space between you and others. It's called the Frame Technique. And it allows you to then go into that level of letting go, letting go of outcome, letting go of control. Why is it so often people might be having a problem, observing the problem, trying to get rid of the problem, they then go for a walk. They go for the walk and guess what happens? They remove their attention to the problem and what happens? The solution comes into awareness because there was a letting go of resistance. The answers are all within right now. Everything is here and now. 11 to 15 million bits of information around you and you can only perceive of 100 bits per second. The love, the joy, the abundance, it's already around you. It's simply invisible due to your observation of the problem, due to your observation of being stuck, due to your observation of being single, due to the observation of people in a relationship and what that might reflect back to you, due to your observation of people that are abundant, And when you begin to ignore that reality of the significance you give to that thought, that's the degree to which you begin to be in a present state of consciousness, recognizing you are the author, you're the one that gives things meaning. This is when reality will really begin to shift. And this is something that I call, by the way, the second awakening. You awaken beyond your core patterns into a whole new world, a whole new relationship with thinking, a whole new relationship with purpose. This is when things really begin to shift. So if you want to, by the way, learn how to apply all of this in your life, I have a free course that will show you how to do so. It's called the High Vibe Starter Kit. It's literally— well, I'll show you how to to observe your thoughts. I'll show you how to go through and feel the emotions underneath the surface of what you already want to experience, but also how do you step by step let go so that these things no longer have power over you. It's a free course. You could check it out by clicking the link below. Go ahead, check that out. And also, if you wanna learn more about what is called the second awakening, if you're seeing this part of the video, then you are going through your second awakening and you can check it out right here.
