In this solo self‑help monologue, Aaron Doughty explains that reality functions like a mirror: whatever we believe about ourselves is reflected back in our experiences. He uses a mirror metaphor to illustrate that instead of trying to change the external image directly, we must first change our internal state—smile first, then the mirror shows a smile. He argues that our self‑identifications (e.g., “I have ADHD,” “all women are gold‑diggers,” “money is scarce”) create self‑fulfilling patterns that attract corresponding outcomes. By becoming aware of these limiting beliefs, questioning their origins, and consciously choosing new, empowering definitions, we can shift the reflected reality. He offers concrete steps: recognize the belief, decide on a new belief, and take small, consistent actions that reinforce the new identity. Examples include redefining ADHD, altering relationship expectations, and changing money mindset. The talk concludes with a call to apply this re‑identification process across any life area, encouraging viewers to comment, like, and subscribe.

This is one of the biggest things that I've understood over the last couple years, and it's had such a huge impact on how I live my life. And the reason that is, is because it's so simple, but it gives us all the power. And that is that we give life meaning. Reality and life is like a mirror. Whatever you project is always reflected back to you. So in the same way, if we're trying to change our life situation, it's understanding that if we are looking at a mirror and we're making eye contact with the mirror and we are seeing ourselves frown like this and we want to see ourselves smile like this, the way that we change that is we don't go over to the mirror and try to make the frown upside down into a smile. The way we do that is we understand that we must first smile and then the mirror will reflect that. Well, life is like the same way. Whatever we believe to be true about ourselves is always going to be reflected back to us. So what does that mean? It means though, in general, is that the way that we frame ourselves, the way that we identify ourselves, and what we relate to in life is what we tend to project. And then that reflection is always giving back to us. That reflection is always being reflected back to us. So let me give you an example of something from my own life. And what that is is something I spoke a little bit about in a prior video, and that was on ADHD. The way that I cured my own ADHD was I defined myself as no longer having ADHD. Sounds so simple, and it really is simple. It's about what you relate to. The way that life works is we give it meaning. What I was doing is I was projecting myself as having ADHD, and I was getting the effect out of life of needing Adderall, of needing some type of supplement to compensate my own energy. And when I came to this acknowledgement, when I became to this awareness that I can then choose not to identify with ADHD and I can choose to then funnel it in another way— I can breathe deeper, have meditation, have other ways that I can supplement ADHD— then it began to change because I shifted my belief on what I identify with and how I identify with the topic of ADHD. Well, our lives are very much the same way. Whatever subject we have, the things that have happened in our past and the feelings that we have towards it now in this present moment tend to be what's normally reflected back to us. So if we have a belief, for example, that— let's give an example, like maybe a guy has a belief that all women are gold diggers. So this guy has the belief, and what'll happen is, is he'll get into relationship with somebody else, and what he'll do is he'll either attract somebody that is in the same mind frame, that is looking for somebody that can be their sugar daddy, or the person is not like that at all, but the person that has that belief tends to see that parts in that person at every little thing. Because of that belief that he has, that perpetuates more of that experience. And maybe he came to that conclusion because once he got a lot of money and became successful, he was in a relationship where that was the case. So then he identified and he tagged that feeling to that thought, and that became more of a rigid, more of a solid belief system in his life, or a belief in his life. So it's about becoming aware that we have the belief and then questioning it and saying, why do I believe that? What do I— what would I have to believe is true for me to keep this, uh, relation to the outside world or keep this circumstance of coming up in my life? So the more we realize that everything in our life is a reflection of who we are and what we believe, then we become aware that we can change our life depending on where we put our focus, how we feel, and our emotions. So it's about changing what what we believe to be true about ourselves to change our situation. If you believe that money is something that's hard to get, and you believe and you relate to money in a way where the only the people that are rich, maybe that you think they're scumbags, you think that they had to take it from somebody else to get where they are, then you'll keep projecting a reality where that abundance can't flow through to you. And it's because of that belief and the relationship to money. And you can apply this towards any area of your life. You can understand that how you identify with any subject is based upon what you believe to be true about that, and that is always reflected back to you. So the way that we change what we don't prefer to believe is by becoming aware first off that we have some type of belief or some type of label or definition that we've added to something that's happened in our lives. And then from there, we choose what we would prefer to believe, and we take small actions towards making that more concrete and more real from experience. So I— about re-identifying identifying with the beliefs that you have in order to change your life situation. So we can apply this in any area of our life. I know I did, and I know that it's made a huge difference in how I relate to other people, how I relate to things in my life, and how I process information, and how I process my feelings, and how I live my life. So I hope this was able to help in some way today. Feel free to share comments. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
