The DANGER of "Act As if" and "Fake it till You Make It" that NO ONE TELLS YOU

In this video Aaron Doughty warns that the popular law‑of‑attraction advice to “act as if” or “fake it till you make it” has a dark side when it is driven by desperation, external symbols, or a false persona. He illustrates the point with the movie Aladdin, where the hero adopts a princely mask to win Jasmine’s approval, only to push her away because he is out of alignment with his true self. Aaron explains that acting “as if” can be powerful when it aligns with one’s core vibration, but becomes harmful when it focuses on external symbols (money, status) rather than the underlying emotions (security, love, freedom) that already exist within. He shares his own experience of wearing a “hard‑core business” mask, over‑producing videos, and feeling burnt out, then letting go of that persona and returning to his authentic passion for creating content, which instantly increased his abundance. The core message is to shift from desperate, symbol‑chasing manifestation to an intention‑based practice rooted in authenticity, self‑validation, and feeling the desired emotion from within. Aaron concludes with a light‑hearted sign‑off with his friend Lior.

This video, I'm going to be sharing you the danger of acting as if and faking it till you make it. These are things you may have never heard of before. I'm going to share with you what those are and how you can bypass it. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this video, I'm going to be showing you the dark side or the danger of acting as if and faking it till you make it. These are things that I've found from personal experience in my life. Also things that I've noticed for a lot of people when it comes to the law of attraction or manifestation in general. And it's the things a lot of people don't think about because we hear it a lot in the law of attraction community. And I think it's a powerful thing. It's like, you know, fake it till you make it. Or even a better analogy of that, or a saying of that, is fake it till you become it. I've heard that from, from a couple of different people and I really liked that because it's understanding our identity as well. But there's a dark side to it. It's a double-edged sword. It's also a double-edged sword when we talk about that of acting as if, because acting as if can be a great thing because then we're in the frequency of the reality we want to experience. However, on the other side of that, there's a certain level of resistance that will come up and many times we may put on this front of someone that we're really not even at our deep core. And if we're putting on that front, then we're acting out of alignment of who we really are. So we want to really think about this in the form of alignment. Are we in alignment with who we really are at our core? Now, what inspired this video is last night, Lior and I went to go see the movie Aladdin, and it was with, uh, Will Smith and like the new version of the cartoon. I'm sure you've seen previews for it or trailers for it somewhere. In it, Aladdin spends— he meets Jasmine and he falls in love with her and they have this thing together. However, he then thinks that everything he has to do is to gain her approval. In order to do so, he has to be a prince because she's a princess. In order for him to be with the princess, he's got to also be a prince. And he then has to— he thinks that what she wants is a whole bunch of money and a whole bunch of gold and all of this power. So he starts to go for that and starts to go to be a prince, to have all this money, to have all this abundance. And he tries so hard that it puts her off, that then she's like not attracted to him and it actually works against him. So that got me thinking because a lot of times in life, the more you really, really want something, the more you can't have it, the more you can't have it because you're not in vibrational resonance with it. If you say, I really, really want something, you are energetically saying, I really, really don't currently have it. That's what you're seeing vibrationally. So when some people go about trying to manifest something in their life, they're coming at it from a place of lack. They're coming at it from a place of, I would really, really want that, which once again emphasizes you don't currently have it. But a lot of times what will happen is then people will develop this mask, they'll develop this persona, and literally the word persona, and for personality, persona means mask. So they put on this mask of someone they actually aren't, and they, like Aladdin was putting on this mask of being this prince, knowing eventually one day he's going to have to tell her that he wasn't really a prince. He was really this street rat that she met a long time ago. However, it's about understanding the dark side of that. The dark side of that comes out when you go for symbols. Rather than going from source. The difference between going for a symbol and going from source is understanding that the source is within you. Aladdin could feel more abundant even though he's poor by realizing that he had his monkey, but he had some bread or something like that, or by going straight to the core of who he is and expressing that to Jasmine. He would have actually got what he wanted, maybe much sooner. Maybe it wouldn't have made for such a great story, but he could have. But a symbol is when we go for money. A symbol is when we go for something, the house, whatever it is. That isn't really what you want. What you want is an emotion, and within you right now is the emotion you want to feel. It's just you giving yourself permission to feel that emotion. If you want more money, you may want security, you may want freedom. If you want a relationship, you may want love and compassion and connection. Well, guess what? In your life right now, there's things you could feel connected with. There's things you could feel compassionate about. There's people in your life that you love at some level. So you see, these things, these emotions, these vibrations are within you right now. And when you come from source, it's much powerful. However, sometimes what we do, the dark side of this process, is us putting on this mask of this kind of person we have to be, which isn't actually really who we are at our core. I went through this about a year and a half ago. I was so focused on becoming successful and that mask— I wore a mask for a while of being this, being this hardcore business person that was making a video every— I still make a video a day, but it was with this desperate energy of me trying to get where I wasn't currently because I had to get to the next level. So I spent a long time blocking out a lot of good things in my life, blocking out doing certain things I would have enjoyed doing, maybe trips that I could have taken because I was so focused on trying to get somewhere else. So I had this, and I had this certain persona that I was putting on, like, like I'm a hard worker. You know, people would always tell me, Aaron, I don't know how you make a video a day and you do all of this stuff like you're a machine. I prided myself. That was like, yeah, I'm this, this person that could do all of this stuff. And therefore I was always acting consistent to that. Now here's the paradox that was causing me to become too serious. I wasn't enjoying my life as much and I realized I was always trying to get somewhere I currently wasn't. The irony is when I let that persona go, I said, you know what, I'm going to still do what I love to do, which what I love to do is making YouTube videos. What I love to do is I still love the business stuff, but I'm not going to do it from a desperate place. The moment I let that go is the moment that more abundance flowed in than ever before, and it came easier than it ever came before. I wouldn't send as many emails as I was before. I wouldn't do as much business things that you'd say, well, you gotta do this in order to be more abundant. I would do less and get more because my vibration increased because I was coming from source. I was doing what I enjoyed doing. So acting as if can be powerful, but it's about understanding how are you going about act as if. Are you going for symbols? You can say, I want more abundance in my life, and you can feel more abundant with the source within you. And then as a reflection on your outer reality, You can set intentions for maybe a certain dollar amount of whatever it is, but what is the energy that you're moving towards? Is it this desperation or is it more of just this awareness that it's what you prefer? You see, there's different ways of going about it and one way is desperation and another way is with intention. And Aladdin was going about it in a very desperate way. He was overthinking everything and he, he was, there's like a moment when he was talking to Jasmine, he was just like, he couldn't, he could hardly string words together and he's, everything he said sounded wrong because he was overthinking it. And that's how some people get when it comes to manifestation. And the irony is at the very end when he finally got Jasmine and he was with her, he was so not attached. It was like he was allowing the universe to do what it does. He's like, you know what? You deserve something amazing. Maybe that's not me and this is the way it is. And then he just started walking out. Of the palace at the very end, and then she comes running after him, and then obviously it turns and he can then be with her. So you see, it was— it's when you let go of needing anything that you can then have everything. You don't need it. You might want it, you might intend for it, but you don't need it from a desperate place. You see, that's the, that's the difference. And the dark side is when we put on these masks of trying to be someone that we're not at our core. We look for validation from other people. We look for validation from family, from friends, from people that know us, from like YouTube audience, even like, well, people like this video. But what I've learned is the more that I'm just myself, the more people love me anyways. Or the more people at least express that back to me. Even if I have friends that don't agree with maybe some of the content I put out, they're like, oh, he puts out metaphysics videos, law of attraction. I don't know about all that stuff. But they say, you know what, he's himself though. That's what he loves doing. They respect that. So the stereotypical cliché thing that I want to say today is to be yourself, which is also one of the most annoying things someone can tell you to do. Just be yourself. You're thinking to yourself, I am myself. What do you mean be myself? What I mean is don't apologize for being you. And the you that I'm speaking to right now is you at your core. You, when you're doing what you're passionate about, you're not wearing a mask. When you're trying to do something that you think will get you some symbol, you might be wearing a mask and the symbols are money. The symbols are the things that you think you want. You wanna win the lottery. You don't wanna win the lottery. You think you do. Most people, I mean 99% of people don't really want to win the lottery. They're not that passionate about winning the lottery. They just want the, it's a symbol of the money that comes with it. And the money that comes with it is an abundance of you never having to work again a day in your lives. But the irony is when you find out what you're passionate about, you never wanna go a day without working in your life. So it's this, it's this thing that you can start to become aware of is how can you focus more on getting to your core? What is your core vibration? What is your vibrational set point? Think about acting as if and fake it till you make it as aligning to who you really are, the best version of yourself that's connected to your passion. The difference is the dark side is when you're connected to the version you think you should be for other people to like you. Or you think that this is what will get you some result. But when you're doing what you're passionate about, that's not a mask. That's who you really are. And when you can unapologetically be that version of you, everyone else will validate you anyways. You have to validate yourself before other people will validate you, because reality is just a mirror anyways. So maybe look to a part in your— a part of your past where you had to, you chose to, you had to be someone in order to get by. You chose that you had to be a certain type of way for people to like you or people to love you. I realized that when I was younger and I was going through a lot of stuff when I was in my teenage years because of my ex-stepmom back in the day, I put on this armor around me where I had to be, I had to be strong and I had to be a certain way and I had to be somebody that was successful in life because it would get me somewhere else. And I had to prove everyone wrong. I also— and sometimes these masks, these, this way of acting as if, or fake it till you make it, sometimes it can serve us up until a certain point, but there becomes a point when it becomes a little darker. For example, maybe part of the reason I wasn't that validated and I didn't have much worthiness when I was a kid, maybe that propelled me to take a lot of action to actually want to also help a lot of people to become the best versions of themselves because I've been trapped within my own little identity before. I've been trapped within a paradigm of believing I wasn't worthy. So maybe that led me to then eventually wanting to help people. So that served a certain purpose, but it maybe also allowed me to take action, to make daily videos, to like become someone. Because also a lot of people, when I first started making YouTube videos, a lot of people didn't believe in me. I was looking for validation. I'm like, yeah, I'm making YouTube videos. And people were like, okay, Aaron, yep, another one of those things you're doing. You see? So then I was like, I'm gonna prove them wrong. I'm gonna make a video a day every day, and eventually people will see that I'm made of something. So I was like, act as if. I used act as if to become a full-time YouTuber. I'm not dissing on act as if. I acted as if I was a full-time YouTuber and then I became a full-time YouTuber. It works, but where is that energy coming from? That's what I'm asking you. The dark side of it is if it's coming from a sense of desperation. You see, some people, they are doing things because of the validation it gets them, and I've done that. I mean, I've made videos before like, I hope you really like this, maybe people like me more. But I've realized that you get everything by needing And getting to your core really is the key to this process. So with that being said, I hope you enjoyed this video. Lior and I are going to go to a place called Moon Juice right now and get some juices or some moon juice or what's it called? But it's like juices and stuff, right? Lior's here, by the way. Come say hi. Come say hi. Come say hi real quick. We've never done that before. Say hi. Hi. Do you like my camera? I love it. It makes me look pink, but I'm a fan. Okay, pink's okay. Pink means love. So we're gonna go. Say peace, much love, and namaste. Bye!
