The Energy of Empaths and Narcissists...

In this monologue Aaron Doughty explores why two children of a narcissistic parent can develop into opposite personality types—a narcissist and an empath—despite sharing the same underlying wound of unworthiness. He explains that a narcissist dampens their capacity to feel others’ emotions and uses control to meet their needs, whereas an empath amplifies sensitivity to others’ energies, constantly adjusting behavior to feel safe. Both dynamics stem from a core shame, and Doughty argues that the path to healing lies in embracing vulnerability—literally the ability to enter and feel the wound—allowing the shame energy to dissipate. He also introduces the concept of a middle ground, a subject‑object understanding that can bridge the two extremes.
