The Most Powerful Technique for Changing Beliefs (This Changes Everything)

Aaron Doughty explains how most core beliefs are hand-me-downs from childhood that we unconsciously carry like luggage. The shift happens when you stop blaming your parents and consciously decide to let those beliefs go, then reprogram your self-image through repeated questioning of what you actually want to believe.

Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron Doughty and I help people expand their consciousness. Now on this video, I'll be sharing with you the most powerful technique that you can apply for changing your subconscious beliefs. Now I've actually done many videos on this before. If you've already been subscribed to my channel and you've probably seen them, but what I want to do is really emphasize a simple perspective and idea that can allow us to reframe a lot of what we think to be true and really allow us to change the model for the way we see the world. Because what happens is as we grow up, we obtain certain experiences, we see the world in a certain way, and those ways we see the world go on autopilot. Meaning that simply once it gets to a certain part, it's like that repetition has made it so that we simply see the world in that way and we no longer question it because we think that it is simply the way the world works. So the power of this video and the main idea that you can leave with that I think is just so powerful is knowing that most of what you believe to be true has been something that you acquired from someone else, or it's someone else's belief. Now what this means is it comes with the awareness of knowing that most of what we believe to be true has come from a certain part of our life, and that is from when we are born till about the age of 8 to 12 years old, and that within that period of time, most of the hard, deep-rooted beliefs for the way that we see the world has been formed during that period in our life. Now when we go through that period, where do the most of those beliefs come from? They come from our parents, they come from our peers, they come from different experiences that we've had, and based upon those experience, we derive meaning to it, and that meaning then becomes a definition for the way that we see We see the world. So changing these and changing these aspects is first off realizing that most of what we think to be true is a hand-me-down belief. Now, not everything, because some things come from reference experiences, but most of what we experience, something happened and then the meaning to why that happened. When we looked around, we were many times told that this is the way it is. Or we were disciplined in a certain way into thinking that that's just how it has to be. Now I want to give you an analogy. I'm finding that analogies are very powerful ways of expressing ideas and imagine that when it comes to beliefs, you can think of it in the form of luggage and I forget where I've heard this before, but it's very powerful for understanding the idea that when we grow up, we take on and we start to carry around with us luggage that we find, i.e., beliefs or belief systems, and we are told that we're growing up, that this is the way things are, this is the way the world works, or we have a certain reference experience and maybe a peer tells us that we are this way and you know, we're ugly or we don't compare, we're not valuable or we're not validated by our friends and family or whatever it is. We start to pick up this luggage and then what we do is as time goes on and as we get into teenagers or as we are getting older, We are carrying this luggage around on our back. We are walking around and we are lugging it everywhere that we go and we simply become blind to the idea that we are carrying around luggage that is not ours. We aren't even aware that we have it. And what happens is, is then we wonder why it's hard for our life to change. We wonder why we're not getting where we want quicker, and many times that's Simply because we are carrying around luggage that is not ours, that is weighing us down from getting to where we prefer to be. Now, the power of this whole analogy is knowing it's not about changing out the luggage. It's not about doing anything other than simply deciding to let that luggage go. And in the recognition that the only reason that luggage is there is because unconsciously it was on autopilot in us thinking that it was ours. When we start to realize that it came from many times external sources, it came from the beliefs of our parents, it came from friends and family that imposed their ideas onto us, then we can really make the conscious choice that we are going to let it go. Now, letting go of those beliefs, letting go of that luggage, then frees you up to decide who you prefer to be, and then from that point to get where you want in a much more efficient way because you aren't being weighed down by all of that luggage which isn't yours. Now the other part of this is knowing there is still a level of responsibility, and what this means is it's not about blaming and putting the blame on our friends and family. It's not about knowing and thinking that it's because of them that we are this way. It's in the recognition that we can let go of those beliefs. But it's knowing that at a certain point on an unconscious or a conscious level, we agreed to those terms. We agreed to those beliefs having power over us, or we even those subconscious beliefs, and because we agreed to it, that's where we then take the responsibility because in the moment right now, we simply choose that it no longer is something that serves us. It's no longer something that we want to lug around and think about. Thinking that this is our luggage and because we have that level of awareness and because we start to ask ourselves the question, what would I have to believe is true to be having this kind of experience? Then we can start to find the sources of where they came from and we can simply decide that now it is not a part of the identity for who we are. It is not a part of our self-image and that's another part of this process. Is changing the self-image that we have, and as we change that self-image, we then change the kind of beliefs that are tagged onto it. Now, the self-image for the way we see ourselves is what is called a cybernetic system, and what that means is cybernetic, and from the book called Psycho-Cybernetics by, uh, Mark or, uh, Maltz, Christopher, I'll put the link little picture right here, but it's a very powerful book on our self-image and how what our self-image is, is a self-preservation system. In the same way, like you might have a thermometer in your house that kicks it up to a certain degrees. What happens is, is any deviance, any change that happens in that temperature, the system knows to reregulate it back to whatever temperature it was set to. Now in the same way, you may notice that sometimes if you sabotage yourself. It may come from not changing the self-image, and because we might do something different, unless we put that doing and that as a part of who we are now, that change doesn't last and the results don't change. So we might be like, I want to make, you know, $80,000 a year. I've been making $50,000. I want to make $80,000. That will not happen until we change our self-image for the way that we see ourselves. If we unconsciously think think that we're only capable of making 50, then we won't actually make that 80. So we have to reregulate ourselves and start to view ourself in a completely new way in order to then understand that that will help us let go of a lot of those beliefs that are holding us back. And that as we begin to have that level of awareness, everything begins to change. So remember that it's also a part of gaining responsibility and knowing that we cannot change what we do not own. So we have to know that these limiting beliefs that we had, that is something that we consciously let happen. Now don't beat yourself up, don't feel guilty for it, but realize that when you start to understand and not blame yourself, but you have that level of awareness, you can then simply decide it no longer serves you. You are now aware of your self-image and you can simply decide that you're going to let it go. So the power of this whole video is knowing that most of what we believe to be true came from reference experiences of people telling us what to believe. Believe, of feedback from peers. It isn't actually our luggage. It can then be seen as opinion, and then we can simply decide to let go of all that luggage that we are carrying around. We can know that as we change our self-image, as we simply start to ask the question, what do I believe is true in order to have this kind of experience? We are bringing the subconscious into the conscious. We can simply decide side that that is not a part of our new self-image that we have. And as we begin to rinse and repeat this process and this level of awareness, you'll find that it dramatically changes your life in a very powerful way. So with that being said, I hope you guys enjoyed this video. Feel free to like this video if you liked it, subscribe if you haven't already, and as always, I will see you guys on the next vid. Peace, much love, namaste.
