The only 3 words you need to let go

Aaron Doughty presents three phrases to let go of attachment: "I'm good either way" to accept any outcome, "The divine does it" to stop controlling everything, and "That's not my job" to stop fixing others' emotions. He connects these to childhood survival roles like perfectionist and people-pleaser that drive hidden attachments.

In this video, I'm going to show you 3 words that make letting go so much easier. I have seen thousands of people over the years transform their life using the power of letting go. You can see some comments here from people that have simply watched YouTube videos, applied a few of these phrases that I'm going to share with you, and you can see what the kind of transformations are. When you begin to apply it, you realize things can be so much easier. You realize that you thought before that if you let go of your attachment, you would actually block the thing you want. It means you didn't want it. But in fact, the less you want it, the more you actually allow it come in your life, which is very interesting. Now, the first phrase is, "I'm good either way." Okay, this is the first of the 3 phrases, the 3 words that you can understand, okay? I'm good either way. Now, whether it happens or it doesn't happen, I'm good. This is something that when I shared on social media years ago, this phrase, so many people ran with it and they noticed that things happened so much easier because they let go of resistance of what we call aversion. Okay? So this is some new, a new concept I'm gonna share today that I've actually never shared before. Okay? And it has to do with if you can look at the opposite of what you want, and you could accept it as a possibility, if you could in a way have no resistance to it, you then get yourself to releasing the pressure that's actually blocking the thing that you want. So it's almost like if you were to think of yourself as either single or in a relationship, okay? And you say, "I really want a relationship. I don't wanna be single." What if I'm single forever? And what happens is then there's an aversion. There's either an attachment or an aversion. An attachment is something you want. You might want a relationship and you might have an aversion to being single. So because there's not an acceptance of being single, it's also creating resistance. And then wanting this thing also creates resistance. Part of the aversion too, even as I'm making this video right now, I'm connecting something new, is an aversion is saying, "I don't want what I have." And if you don't want what you have, there's resistance to the present moment. So the attachment then becomes an escape to what you're currently feeling. So let me use this as an example. Literally, a house that I wanted to sell, For 2 months, literally what happened basically is my values changed over the last couple years. I first got on YouTube, started to create success and abundance. I'm like, I'm gonna diversify. So what I did is I bought a house in Austin, and that was, you know, I was like, it's great to have, you know, investments and all of this stuff. And then I had the house, and then as time has gone on, realized that there's a lot of burdens that come with that. There's a lot of energy that comes with that. I have to have somebody manage the house, manage the tenants, all of these different things. And after a while, I was feeling kind of— I was feeling kind of— I was feeling heavy. It's like I want— it's also leaky. There's high property tax over here in Texas. So it was just becoming this thing I was putting a lot of energy into, a lot of money into, having people manage it. It's like, I don't— I have a shift in values. I don't want it. So about 5, 6 months ago, I realized I want to sell it. All tenants moved out. So I had found a real estate agent and basically, this real estate agent told me to put in, it is about $40,000 or $50,000 to get the house fixed up because it would sell for a lot more, which I did. I put in that money. I was like, "I don't really want to. I kind of want to sell it, but okay, I trust it." So I did that. Then we put it on the market at a certain price and there was a lot of buzz, but there were no offers. So what I found myself doing is I had an aversion to having the house and I wanted the freedom from the house. I wanted the attachment was to be free of it. But in the present moment, I wasn't okay. I felt burdened by it. Now, part of the thing was, is if I was honest with myself, I'm like, I'm not good either way with this. I don't want this thing. I've just been putting money into it. I just put $50 grand into it and now it's just been on the market for a month. Well, what's happened is literally within days of reminding myself, I'm like, "Dude, I'm good either way." Now, deeper than this, what it was was there was actually an inner child wound there where I realized by reading a book one night, I realized that there was this, it was a very similar energy pattern from childhood. And that was that I, in this situation related to the house, I felt trapped. I also felt like it was kind of not fair. It's very similar to my childhood patterning. I was like, I pay— people told me to put all this money into it, I did, and now it's not selling. I'm just waiting, just putting more money, paying the rent on it every month, paying the mortgage. So there was almost this victim energy. This is happening to me. And what I realized was within reading this book that one night and realizing, wow, this is a similar energy to childhood. In childhood, I felt I didn't have freedom. I felt trapped. I wanted out. And in this moment, I realized, wait, I'm good either way, but also I'm not a victim in this circumstance. I'm doing what I can, but I choose not to be a victim anymore. I choose not to be burdened by it. I choose— I can choose to feel the safety inside of my body now or the freedom inside of my body now, knowing that the outer reality will eventually catch up. And if it doesn't, I'm good either way. I'm in a blessed position where I can figure it out. And after a couple months, I could technically put it into back on rental or something. So there was this realization that like, I'm good either way. And one of the other things that helped is realizing that when it comes to the divine, which we'll talk a little bit more in a minute, trusting. My ego's perspective is I want to be free from it. From a higher perspective, there could be an understanding that like, bro, if you were to wait a year or two, you would get an extra hundreds of thousands of dollars for selling it, which honestly is probably true. It's like the worst time in the market right now. So there was a— I started to soothe my— I started to realize like, I really am good either way, and what if I could be more more curious about it. And in that curiosity, I would then allow a better situation to eventually come, where in like a year or two from now, maybe $200,000 or $300,000 extra was gotten. It was like, oh, it was worth it. But you see, in the moment, it's like the ego wants to control. The ego wants— is not good either way, has an aversion, is not okay with how it feels now, therefore creates blocks. So realize you are good either way. And if you were to use this powerful concept of anti-wanting, what I mean by anti-wanting is I mean, what if you pretended like you actually want the opposite of what you think you want, right? You might say, "I want a relationship." What if deep down you actually wanted to be single, to focus on yourself? What if you could reframe it and actually want the thing you think you don't want? And realize your ego might not— thinks it knows what's best, but maybe it doesn't. So this is part of understanding that if you can take the thing that you have an aversion to, the thing that you're resisting, and actually want that thing by using it and thinking about it in a way that like, where could this actually work out for me? I've seen so many people transform their relationship to the thing they want by actually using this process of I'm good either way. You're good either way because you don't understand exactly how everything's going to happen. But also what you're saying, by the way, is if you look at these two op— these two different states right here. So if you look at the house situation, for example, there's contraction versus open. Okay? So I'm saying once I sell, if I sell the house, then I'm free. And I can then feel open. So I'm contracted now, but if I sell the house, then I can become free and I can feel open. I can feel open-hearted. I can feel present. I can feel happy. But in fact, when you're really free, when you're really good either way, it's where you realize that you can feel open and you can feel free regardless of the house selling. You— it's an internal state of being. You see, much of what attachment is, is attachment— the attachment paradox is the attachment is being used as a means to change how you feel on the inside. That's why it feels like so much pressure. So when you actually come to this conclusion that you can accept whatever it is and know that the, the question of freedom is not whether you get the attachment or not. The ex— the, the freedom is whether you cannot get the attachment and still feel okay. So if you think about it like, I want people's approval and validation, how do I get it? And I say, "Wait, what if you could not get people's approval but like yourself, and then whether they give it to you or not, you're free?" That's the attachment paradox. So allow yourself to start using this phrase, "I'm good either way." I'm good either way. Whether this thing happens or it doesn't, I'm good. I choose to be good. I choose to be open either way. So realize that this is a mechanism you can use to be at more at peace inside of your body, more in acceptance. That's really what comes from this whole entire experience altogether, acceptance. So let's look at the second 3 words. Divine does it. The divine does it, not you. You know, it's interesting, even with house situations, my assistant texted me a few days ago and said, "Hey, I might be moving out of Los Angeles to this place called Big Bear. There's going to be this nature and there's going to be this nervous system relaxation and it's going to be awesome. And I think I'm going to move there for a couple of years." And I said, "No, you can't do that." I'm just kidding, I didn't say that. I said, "Cool, I'm happy for you. That's awesome." She said, "I was going to tell you later today, but I'm going to find out for sure later today, but I'm excited about that." So cool. She texts me 5 or 6 hours later and she goes, "Unfortunately, it didn't happen because the person I negotiated the price and the rent with pulled out last minute. So now I'm not moving there." And I said my advice to her, or what I said was, is I've been in many situations over the last years where something doesn't happen. Your ego might be kind of like, "Why did that happen?" But what we don't understand is that from a mountaintop, the divine, God might be able to see. I said, what if this? What if that place that you were going to go to, what you don't know is you don't know certain things. You don't know if you would have actually liked it if you signed a year or two lease. What if you moved into that house and there was mold? What if your soulmate is going to move to LA soon and you wouldn't synchronistically meet that person because you'd have been gone? What if there's somewhere else that you don't even know yet? There's what you know, there's what you don't know, and there's what you don't know you don't know. What if somebody— what if you had this opportunity to move to Colorado or something? You see, we don't know, but when things like this happen, something greater may be coming along for you. Allow the divine, trust in the divine. Understand, you don't make a plant grow. Can you make a plant grow? Simple analogy. Beautiful plants, right? If I go over here and I'm like, grow, grow, dang it, grow, I'm gonna put you in the sun, I'm gonna water you. But it knows deep down God is what makes it grow. But in our life, we try to control things because we think we know what's best. It's natural DNA. It's, I mean, it's a part of God energy. It just naturally grows. And the more you try to make it grow, the more you worry about it, the more you probably stress out the plant. I think they've actually shown that like plants can feel emotion and energy just like water can. Very interesting, very woo-woo perspective, but it's all consciousness, baby. So the divine does it. So what we don't know is a larger perspective of like when you get disappointed for the things— like somebody may be really bent out over a breakup, but what they don't know is they don't know that if they were in a relationship with that person long term, they may have felt gone nuts. Maybe if they were— maybe they would have been cheated on later on. Maybe, um, maybe there's a soulmate or somebody that is even a deeper connection that's kind of waiting in the wings, but you literally are gonna block that because you stay attached to this. You just don't know, but it's not your thing to manage. I remember back before I got on YouTube, I was working at Barney's New York, and I went and I applied at a place called Neiman Marcus, which you got more— I got more commission, I'd make more money there. And I remember I went there and I had this like kind of like perspective of like any job I want, I go and I put in a good energy and I can get it. That's kind of how it worked. I worked at Nordstrom's for 4 or 5 years and then I worked at Barney's for 4 or 5 years. It's just 2, 3 jobs I've had and every job I went for, I got. So I go to Neiman's and I'm like, I'd like to work here, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I talked to the manager and I applied. It was the first time I didn't get it. I was like, wait, I had to stay at Barney's? Why? Am I not good enough? Is there something wrong with me? But then what I realized is a few months later, I got so tired of having a 9-to-5 job and I started feeling so inspired to like make videos that I committed to daily videos on YouTube. And guess what happened? Within a few months, I was full-time on YouTube. If I would have gotten what I wanted back in 2016, I wouldn't have gone full-time on YouTube in 2017. Maybe if you would have gotten what you thought you wanted with an ex that maybe wasn't actually healthy for your nervous system, or some other opportunity that you thought you let slip by, maybe that was actually blocking something greater beyond what you think you know or you don't know. There's what you know, there's what you don't know, and there's what you don't know you don't know. And that's most of the pie. So that's God. That's the unknown. And your job is to put your energy, your job is to follow the energy. Your job's to lighten up about it, have more fun with it. And to realize that as you have more fun with it, what you end up doing is you end up like releasing that energy that's stored inside of the body. So let's now go into one of the most powerful perspectives that I think get to the depths of how you show up that can completely change your patterning from the inside out. And that's this little phrase right here. The third one is, that's not my job. There's an old school Mac Dre song song, completely different niche. Most of you probably won't even know what it is, but it's not my job. It's not my job. It's a song that's not really about exactly what I'm speaking about, if I'm being honest. But not my job. It's not my job to fix your emotions. It's not my job to— It's like we sometimes, we take on the burden of everyone around us. And part of the thing that drives our attachment is the way people will see us. It's not our job to manage how they view you. And a lot of what happens is we have old roles that keep us attached and keep us blocked. So the role, because a lot of time the inner child patterning is a mechanism and a way of controlling the outer reality. So look at this question. I've been sharing this a lot lately. This one question makes people pop, makes people cry, makes people have huge breakthroughs. I've literally seen so many people break through with this one idea. And that idea is, who did you have to be as a kid to receive mom or dad's love? Who did you have to be? If you had to be perfect, If you had to be a pleaser, if you had to be hyper-independent, if you had to be quiet, what is that role? Because many people stay in that role, and that role is what creates attachment. So imagine you feel like a people pleaser and you're pleasing everyone else and you're abandoning you to take care of everyone else. Well, guess what? It's very hard to let go of attachment when your attachment is connected to a survival mechanism, when your attachment is connected to what other people think about you, when you have an attachment to being quote unquote good. I gotta be a good boy or girl. And that good means abandoning you, means taking on other people's emotions and energies. So when you begin to ask yourself this question and this one question alone, You will notice your life begins to shift in so many ways when you begin to actually embrace the opposite of that role. So if you're a perfectionist, you let things be sloppy. You let yourself not look so perfect. You might have an inner critic that comes up inside yourself to judge yourself, and you just, you let it. You don't criticize the inner critic. You just accept it. You can accept the people pleaser part of you, but also recognize that you don't have to let it run you. You could be a little bit bad, not soothe other people's emotions, not fix them. Pull your energy back. You see, this is— this right here is where you will really begin to create powerful transformation in your life. And if you do, by the way, want one of the most powerful meditations I have, it's an inner child meditation. Where you energetically connect to the energy of Kauai in Hawaii, which is a very powerful energy, and you connect to the inner child part of you. There's a meditation I get told from so many people that, that go through it, that I meet, that say it was a big shift for them. So I'm gonna go and link that below. It's completely free. And realize that as you begin to apply these 3 things in your life, I guarantee your life will begin to transform. I'm good either way. The divine does it, and that's not my job. And if you can remember these phrases throughout life, and you can also, if anything, have more fun in the process— the best videos that I make are the ones that I have the most fun with. The ones I have most fun with, you will feel the fun underneath the surface. The ones I'm most attached to, and I want you to see me a certain way, and I have an inversion into a video that doesn't get views and I want more, that's just control. That's just a mechanism. And the more I let go and fall in love with the process, the more magic actually comes. So if you want to watch one of the most powerful videos I have on letting go, it's got over 2 million views and it's a simple process where I'll take you through different ways of letting go that will completely transform your life, watch this video next and watch what happens.
