The Pros and Cons of Raising Your Vibration (No B.S.)

In this 2020 YouTube video Aaron Doughty delivers a candid, no‑fluff overview of what it’s really like to raise one’s vibration. He outlines the major benefits—greater joy, peace, alignment with purpose, reduced resistance, and a deeper sense of freedom—while also exposing the hidden downsides that many spiritual teachers omit. Drawing on his own eight‑year journey (including a 2012 awakening that replaced his reliance on Adderall and weed with meditation), Aaron shares personal stories of feeling misunderstood by family, becoming overly “flighty” and detached from practical life, struggling with people‑pleasing and tension, confronting a spiritual ego, and facing the fear of leaving a stable 9‑to‑5 job. He explains how letting go of anger, shame, and limiting beliefs transforms outer reality, and he offers concrete practices: daily short meditation (morning and night) and committing to daily passion‑aligned work. Aaron also promotes a practical business pathway—fulltimepurpose.com—to help viewers turn their passions into a sustainable full‑time career. Throughout, he balances enthusiastic encouragement with sober warnings, urging viewers to be aware of the cons while recognizing that the pros outweigh them when navigated consciously.

What if raising your vibration isn't as fluffy as you might think? You know, a lot of times you hear about that, you hear about all the positive things. You raise your vibe, you feel more synchronicity, you feel more aligned, all this good stuff. There's actually also quite a few cons to raising your vibration. So what I wanted to do is I wanted to actually show a real, authentic, no BS understanding of both the pros of raising your vibration, the cons of raising your vibration, and what I've learned from my own life. Because over the last, I'd say, 7 or 8 years that I've been raising my vibe, really focused on it, there are a lot of benefits, but there are also some negatives that you may not be aware of, but luckily you're watching this video. So what I thought I'd do is share with you exactly what those are, help you bypass them away, saving you a lot of time and energy and a lot of uncertainty of knowing why am I feeling what I'm feeling? Isn't it supposed to be just fluffy good and all good? Just think a better thought. Just think a better thought. No. This goes deeper than that. Okay? It's not all just thinking a better thought. It's changing the consciousness from the inside out, which sometimes means looking at the shadow, which sometimes means going into the uncomfort. And that's exactly part of the process that I'm going to be sharing with you in this video. So with that being said, let's get into it right now. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this one, I want to be sharing with you the raw, honest truth about raising your vibe. So first off, here are some of the pros. So here's some of the cons. The first one I want to share with you is actually right in the middle because I, I'd say that this is probably one that I've had to deal with the most. And let me explain a little bit about it, but it's people not getting you. This happens a lot when people raise their vibration. Have you ever raised your vibe or had some cool insight and then you shared it with friends or family and maybe you felt like they judged you, they didn't understand you, and it kind of shut you down a little bit? This happened to me back in 2012. I went through my awakening. I learned meditation within a very short period of time. My whole life changed. I went from somebody that was taking Adderall during the day so that I could focus, which is what they give to people that have what is called ADHD. And at nighttime, to balance out the side effects of that Adderall, which were you couldn't eat much, you couldn't sleep much, I would smoke weed. So I was constantly feeling like I was at the mercy— I needed these two things in order to get by. I learned meditation and within days, My whole entire life transformed. I went on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 feeling not so great, 10 feeling amazing, about a 3 as my base point. It would go up a little bit if I smoked, if I drank, if I did Adderall, I'd go up a little bit and then I'd fall right back down. Once I learned how to observe my thoughts, not try to control them, I started to feel about a 7 or 8 out of 10. It took a couple days for it to really click in, but after a couple weeks I felt like I literally a different person. And then when I would smoke or drink, it'd bring me back down to like a 5, and I would be like, why would I do this? I feel better without it. I started feeling high all the time and with nothing, and it completely changed my life. From that point going forward, I went on this journey of like going inwards, understanding how reality works. I let go of the pain of my past regarding my ex-stepmom, and as I healed that, I realized that my outer reality began to change and I started to feel completely different. I learned meditation, I started doing mantras, I started getting into some pretty esoteric, ungrounded things as well. But nonetheless, my whole entire life transformed and that left a lot of people not understanding what happened to me. I had friends and family. Um, my dad didn't understand what happened to me. He thought I went crazy. My mom luckily was there for me supporting. She also went through a spiritual awakening when I went through mine and that was really cool. But a lot of friends didn't understand me and I let that— I felt more alone than ever and I didn't understand it. But that was definitely a con that a lot of people don't talk about with spiritual awakening. One of the cons is you also become very flighty. You become very, uh, you— it's a common theme I see a lot of spiritually awakened or people that are raising their vibe go through, and it's where they just want to meditate all day. They just want to eat vegan food. They just want to do this. They just want to do that. And they start to really identify with these labels. And in a way, it's not always like this, but a lot of times it makes people very, um, kind of like airy-fairy in a way. Nothing wrong with it. I'm not judging it. But I will say that back in the day, 2012, when I went through it, I was so like that, that I was like, I don't even want to have a job. I was literally like, I went into work one day and I literally just quit. I was like, I'm not going in. You guys want to know why? This is kind of funny. I shared on my podcast, but because I wanted to help the planet go through this ascension process, right? In 2012, I learned about everyone were ascending to a higher level of consciousness. So every Sunday at like 2:00 PM, There was this guided meditation, global guided meditation for helping the planet ascend. And because some days I went in, I worked at Nordstrom's in women's shoes, I would have to work and then I would like run out at 2 o'clock every day across the street to the Trump Hotel and I would meditate in the grass and allow this high vibrational energy to come through, which is funny because this is in 2012 before, you know, Trump's even president or anything like that. But I'm meditating, bringing in this high vibration energy and guess what? One day it got into the way of that. I said, you know what, I can't have this. I gotta help the planet ascend. So I literally went in one day and I quit. And after I quit, I went like 6 to 7 months with just going inwards and being very flighty, just sun gazing all day. And it was a phase I needed to go through, but eventually I realized I was resisting 3D reality. I didn't relate to people the same way anymore. So I had to get back into having a job. That's when I applied at Barney's New York, got the job like literally the next day. And I had to learn to be more grounded and I had to learn how to not just be airy-fairy in 5D. I had to also integrate into reality. And that's why I think a lot of people enjoy my content is because I'm rooted and grounded as I share this information and it makes it more digestible to people that listen because I think it's not just crystals and stuff. And I love all those things, by the way. I'm not talking smack on any of it. But one of the cons is that people may not understand you. Now, another thing that you may have to go through has to do with something that is called tension. This is a con. This is a lot of people that are spiritually awakened or go raising their vibe. You might find that you're a people pleaser or a nice guy. This is very common. And what I've had to do is I've had to learn how to be okay with tension, which is, which is pressure. You know, but the thing is, is when we feel tension, if we in childhood went through a lot of trauma, and you'll find that a lot of people that have gone through a spiritual awakening or have risen their vibe, they went through a lot of pain growing up. What you'll find is that that pressure then creates for that transformation. However, they may have not wanted to be around tension growing up. You know, I had a narcissistic ex-stepmom in my life from 7 to 16 years old, and I got a lot of pressure. I got a lot of tension, and I started to associate not wanting to get that, so I would do anything to mitigate that tension. Even if it meant being nice. My dad's a nice guy, so I've had to literally recover from being a nice guy and how to be okay with being in tension, how to be okay with saying no, how not trying to be nice. You know, this is the thing with being nice or a people pleaser is that what nice people or people pleasers are trying to do is they're trying to give, trying to be nice in exchange for validation, love, and approval. So part of transforming and raising the vibe and having the self-respect is realizing I'm good either way. I don't need anything from anyone else. And then what happens is as you become more and more okay with tension, you'll find that then people begin to respect you more. You begin to respect yourself more. That's something I've learned this year, and it wasn't comfortable. I've had to say no. I've had to draw boundaries with people. I've had to be in uncomfortable energy and uncomfortable situations, but guess what? I feel more powerful than ever because I'm doing what I want. And a lot of people that have gone through a spiritual— they want to add value into the world. They want to, they want to help other people, which is great, but it has to come from a place of being okay with whether people like you or not. It did not be attached to that validation and approval. Saying no. I remember when I first started on YouTube, I started making daily videos back in 2017. Friends, I wanna hang out, come over, come over to this party. I'm like, you know, I have to make this video. I had to have priorities and I had to say no, which is sometimes uncomfortable and sometimes sucked. I wanted to go over, I wanted to hang out, but I knew that if I did, I would smoke or I would do something. I had to let go of all that. And as I did, guess what? I was saying no to this, you say yes to something else. So a lot of people don't know, but when you raise your vibe, you may have to say no to certain people. People may not understand you. One thing you wanna make sure though, is that you don't let and develop a belief system that says people don't get you. You wanna realize that a lot of times that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Even if someone came into your life that did get you, you just see them as not getting you and you'd block out people from really understanding you. Now that I've shared some, I'll say there's more cons, but there's many benefits. One is you release resistance. As you raise your vibe, Daniel will put the chart right here. You see shame, fear, guilt, anger, neutrality, willingness, reasoning on the scale of consciousness, and joy, peace, enlightenment. The key is letting go. There's a book called Letting Go by Dr. David Hawkins, extremely powerful book. The more you let go, the more you raise your vibe. You let go of position— they're called positionalities, perspectives that keep you in low vibe. I was angry at my ex-stepmom for all the stuff that I went through, not having a childhood and stuff, and that kept me in low vibe. That kept me there. I had to forgive and realize she was doing the best she could with where she was with her current level of consciousness. Then as I let that go, guess what? The outer reality literally began to change. I always had a woman in my life trying to control me because I believed that that's what women wanted to do because I had an ex-stepmom that represented that to me. And when I let that go, guess what happened? My whole entire life transformed. I let go, I forgave my ex-stepmom. And as I did that, I had a manager at Nordstrom's that was trying to, it was very, almost the same as my ex-stepmom. She left my life within a week of meditating and having that realization because the outer reality is just a reflection of the inner reality. And it's a reflection of what we tolerate and what is vibrationally active inside of us. And I was angry and I let go of that anger and she left. Interesting how that works. But this is the key, is understanding that also you're gonna feel better the more you raise your vibe. The more, the better you're gonna feel. Feel more in love, joy, peace. The less attached you're gonna feel as well. I'd go as far to say the more you raise your vibe is the less attached you are because the more you trust the universe. One of the biggest epiphanies of 2020 for me is to let go of trying to control. Control is a form of manipulation. If we're trying to manipulate the universe, it's gonna resist us. But instead, if we let go, we have a vision for what we want to experience, for the kind of person we want to be, but we let the universe show it to us. Oh my God, it's so much more magical. I've had so many experiences like this over the last year, it's incredible. And what I realized, especially in relationship with people, when you go through an awakening, you might have this tendency or raising your vibe to get other people on board. Well, I feel kind of alone, so if I get other people on board, then I won't feel so alone. The problem is that when you do that, they then resist whatever you're trying to get them to understand because they, they feel like they're not making the choice. You're controlling it. Let go. If you let go, people feel that release and then they want to. Now I don't have this pressure around me. I don't have this stigma that people have to know this raised vibration information. And guess what? People come to me now, not just because of the YouTube channel. I mean, I have literally friends that are interested in this stuff because they see I'm just so unapologetic about it. I don't need them to believe it. I don't need it. And when you don't need, you get. Very common thing. I have many videos on that, but the desire actually blocks you. You notice on that scale of consciousness, desire is at 125. Needing and craving is the whole reason you don't have it. They're different vibrations. The vibration of wanting something versus needing something, or the vibration of wanting something versus having something, are completely different. Now, aligned to your mission. So the pro is that you then become aligned to your mission. You're, you're doing what you came here to do. I believe many of us listening to this video right now or watching this, you came here to help people wake up to more and more of who they are. You came here to wake up yourself, and as you do that, it changes your life from the inside out. It adds value to the planet. If you believe you came here for this purpose, to wake up to this information and to raise your own vibe and to do what you're passionate about, can you smash the like button and comment, comment belly button below? Okay, why belly button? There's a whole story to that. It's on the podcast, but nonetheless, This is the key, is realizing there are many, many pros, and I promise you the pros outweigh the cons, but there are some cons that come in that we just gotta be aware of. Another con is you're gonna have to jump into the scary unknown. When I had to let go of a 9-to-5 job that brought me a lot of comfort and jump into something that wasn't very stable or secure, but I had to believe in that vision. And even though it's scary, guess what? In the unknown is where magic happens. The other thing though is you may develop a spiritual ego. When people didn't understand me back in 2012, I was like, they're just asleep. They don't understand. And then what happens is you develop this rigidness and they can feel that and you end up creating a lot of— you just can't connect with people because you're judging them without knowing it. And even around being— there's many spiritual levels, like, I am vegan, what do you eat? That develops a spiritual ego. I am this way, I meditate for 4 hours a day. How many times do you meditate a day? See, the spiritual ego gets brought in and then we believe that the more spiritual we are, the better. Realize that life itself is a spiritual experience. Even little things, even, you know, you can make anything spiritual. Walking your dog can be a spiritual experience. Watching a movie can be a spiritual experience. Everything is spiritual. It's just that we like to put compartments. This is spiritual, this is not. Are you spiritual or less spiritual? Everything in life can be spiritual. Though one of the reasons Eckhart Tolle says he doesn't have to meditate and actually meditate is because he's in a constant meditation. Life becomes meditation. And the two things that I think will raise your vibration the most, by the way, is one, having a meditation practice, observing your thoughts for 5 or 10 minutes a day. And then two, and I say do it right when you wake up in the morning, right before you go to bed at night, will change your life more than anything else if you do that, I promise you. It may not be immediately, but over time it goes into your identity. It changes your sense of identity. Secondly, Do something you're passionate about every single day with a vision of the kind of person you prefer to be. I made videos every single day on YouTube till I didn't have that 9-to-5 job anymore. Changed my life more than anything else. When you're aligned to your heart, not your mind, but your heart, you'll find that the universe, and then let go, let go of beliefs that don't serve you anymore, let go of labels that don't serve you anymore. The more you let go, the more free you will feel. And that's when your life really begins to change in a very powerful way. And for those of you who didn't know, when it comes to living your passion, doing what you love with the power of the internet, anybody can do it. All you have to do is have the right strategy to do so. Now, whether you're listening to this and you're a healer, you do Reiki, you're a life coach, you're an artist, you're a musician, you're a consultant, whatever it is you're passionate about, you can do it. And you don't need a big old audience. You don't even need to be on camera. You just have to have a strategy for learning how to do that. Going 9 to— I remember For me to go full-time and to quit my 9-to-5 job, I talked to my buddy Victor about this when I first met him. He said, how much in bills do you have a month? I was like, $1,600 a month in bills. He goes, okay, that's like 8 coaching clients. Get 8 coaching clients, you don't have to have a job anymore. That was mind-blowing to me. Oh, so you don't need 1,000 followers. You could literally have 8 coaching clients or there's just so many strategies. It's way easier than you think. If I knew what I knew now back when I first started on YouTube, I would've gone full-time within weeks. No joke, when I had like, like 3,000 subs or something, you know. So anyways, if you want to learn more about that, you can go to fulltimepurpose.com. My buddy Victor and I will show with you how we've helped so many people go full-time doing what they love. Simple strategy. You'll get that in the webinar. Go to fulltimepurpose.com, check that out, or the link will be in the description box below. Other than that, there's some cons to this, but realize the pro is you feel more aligned than ever. You're doing what you came here to do. You're doing it in a heart-based way. Uh, the cons are just there to help you grow. That's one way to look at it. So with that being said, hope you guys enjoyed this video and as always, talk to you guys on the next one. Peace, much love, and namaste.
