The REAL Reason you’re NOT Getting what you want.

In this self‑help video Aaron Doughty argues that the main obstacle to getting what you desire is attachment to familiar, often childhood‑originated beliefs and outcomes. He explains that when we cling to expectations—whether about relationships, abundance, or success—we block the very reality we want because our attachment creates a limiting energetic frequency. Doughty introduces the scientific "expectation effect" (e.g., gluten‑shake and teacher‑labeling studies) to illustrate how belief can shape perception, and he links this to quantum‑style ideas that multiple possible realities exist and our expectations help select one. He then shares a personal fishing trip in Costa Rica, describing how he maintained a clear expectation of catching a big fish while remaining non‑attached, which led to a surprisingly abundant catch. From this story he extracts the principle that one should focus on enjoying the process, stay present, and maintain a high‑vibrational, happy state regardless of outcome. He claims that releasing attachment raises one’s magnetic energy, making desired realities more likely to manifest. The video concludes with a promotion for a free $1,000 "High Vibe 101" course and the "High Vibe Tribe" community, offering guided meditations and breathwork to re‑pattern the nervous system toward detachment and higher vibration.

The secret to getting what you want is letting go of it even happening in the first place. When you learn what I'm about to share with you in this video, it will make the process of getting what you want so much easier because you'll see that what you want, you are actually blocking because of attachment. And when you are intending or visualizing the perfect relationship, when you are intending or visualizing more abundance, when you are intending for more synchronicities and more opportunities in your life, the attachment to those things and to the things that are familiar to your childhood are what are blocking you from actually perceiving it in your life now. Now think about this. If there is an attachment in childhood to a story that people are unreliable, a story that I don't want to be abandoned, or people always leave me, that attachment is blocking love from coming into your life. If there is an attachment to believing that men cheat, or woman, you know, whatever, there's these different beliefs that stem from childhood. Those attachments are actually what is blocking you from attracting what you want. So you could say that the letting go is the key to actually attracting more of what you want. Now, here's the thing. The thing you're really letting go of is familiar energy. It is familiar maybe to feel not chosen. It is familiar maybe to feel abandoned. It is familiar maybe to have toxic people that are controlling in your life. It is familiar maybe to be in scarcity. It is familiar maybe for someone else to tell you what to do at a 9-to-5 job. And you say, I don't know why I keep blocking myself. I keep blocking myself from what I want. I want something, but at the same time, I'm subconsciously blocking it. Why am I doing that? Well, what is familiar may not be the freedom, the love, the open heart. You want to have an expectation. Here's something else, new concepts I've been learning lately that I think is so powerful. And I'll share with you a story about this, but you want to be good either way, knowing that this outcome you quote unquote want isn't the end-all be-all. You're good either way. It's not putting an intense amount of importance onto it. Like if you are unhappy and you think that a relationship will make you happy and you project onto someone else the burden to make you happy, you'll find that once you are in that relationship, you're still not happy. Or there's some sabotage energy there that causes it not to happen. Because it's the thing isn't the solution. It's an inner energy that must be shifted for you to experience it. Now, in past videos, it'd be like, there's this thing called the expectation effect. In science, it's called the expectation effect. There's books called about the expectation effect. And this is phenomenon where what you do, and it shows how flexible reality is. But what I want to pair is the expectation effect with letting go and show you how this works, how you can expect for something without being attached. And letting go is the key to actually receiving that expectation. This is a game changer. This completely transformed my life and my understanding of reality itself when I really began to apply it. Expectation effect. Just a general idea of how this works. There's many different studies that show this, but in one of them, what they do is they give test subjects— let's say there's 100 test subjects— 50 of them, they give this shake and they tell them, this shake is very low in calories and this shake does not have gluten in it. And then they give the other 50 people a shake and they say, this is a high-calorie shake and it has gluten. What'll happen is the people that took the high-calorie shake that has gluten in it will believe and expect that that is going to bloat them, expect that that is going to have gluten in it. And it's funny, gluten intolerance is something that is much more common nowadays than it was in the past, partially because there's a mass belief in it, an expectation that anytime you eat gluten, your body's going to inflame. So then what happens is that people that eat this high-calorie gluten shake respond as if there's gluten in it. Some of them have an allergic reaction, and some of them, um, it has an effect on them as if they had gluten and high-calorie shake. And then same thing with the people that have the low-calorie shake with no gluten in it. What you'll find and what they found is that even people that were gluten intolerant that had gluten when they were told there was no gluten were fine because of their expectation. The other side of that, people that were told that this is a gluten shake, this is, you know, high calorie, there were people that had allergic reactions or responded to it as if it was and there was none in it. So in a way it was like switched. Think about that. Isn't that interesting? Also, you can get— and by the way, the crux of the whole thing is that it was switched. So there were people that were experiencing no gluten when they thought there were gluten and vice versa. Another example, you've got kids in a classroom and a teacher, and the teacher's told these kids are the smart kids, these kids are the dumb kids. At the end of the year, the kids that were labeled as smart performed way better, and the teacher's expectation of them, the teacher, like, literally may have brought out of them more of their smart capabilities because she expected them or he expected them to be smart. And the kids that were expected to be dumb and not perform as well didn't. Now, the truth of the matter is completely random. It's very interesting. So the expectation effect is a thing. What if part of the realities you experience are based on what you expect and there's many probable realities that exist. This is more of the quantum physics side of things. Now let me share with you how I use this in my own life just recently. So just recently I went fishing. I'm in Costa Rica right now. I went fishing in that of here in Costa Rica, and it was an 8-hour, it was a whole funny experience actually with my best friend Victor. I thought it was gonna be a 3 or 4-hour long, Fishing ride ends up being— get there and it's like, oh, it's— you have the 8 hours booked. I'm like, 8 hours? I'm in a calorie deficit because I'm in this little mini cut right now. And I'm like, 8 hours on this, on the sea? I didn't know how my body was going to respond to that and then not having food. Anyways, we end up going out. It was a whole thing. It was— ended up being a very powerful experience, even though I got seasick. I was like laying there, like kind of uncomfortable for a good majority of it. But then at the end, We didn't catch anything for the first 5 hours. We had a blue marlin. It's like 400 pounds, but the line broke after like 3 hours of nothing. And I'm just sitting there. We're 20 miles outside of sea and all you see around you is just blue water. I'll tell you though, there's this really cool thing that happened actually, and I want to share with you. It was so cool. However, I want to talk about expectation. So what happened was There's nothing happening. I'm laying on the floor feeling kind of, uh, feeling seasick. My friend Victor, he's fine. He's gone fishing a few times. And what we really wanted to do is we wanted to catch some tuna because we're running a retreat out here and we normally have fish at the retreat because a lot of the guests will eat, um, they're vegan or eat fish. So anyways, we wanted to get fish. So, uh, we thought it'd be a cool thing to actually catch the fish and, uh, use it all sustainable, all of that. So we thought this would be a really cool thing. So we go out, we want to catch tuna. We're out there and they say basically if we find a school of tuna, we'll probably catch a tuna. But if we don't, we're kind of out of luck. Well, the first 4 or 5 hours we don't catch anything. Then all of a sudden I'm laying on the floor still feeling seasick, kind of going through like a psychedelic experience of just like being with my emotions. All of a sudden this crazy thing happens. This, the guy, we go, we start going really fast. We're like going towards something. Because before that, we were like trolling or, you know, we're just going like 18 miles an hour in a specific direction with lines on, you know, waiting for fish. Nothing was coming. So what happens is we start going fast. They saw something. All of a sudden I pop up and there's this crazy thing happening. There are hundreds of dolphins, literally hundreds. There are hundreds of birds. There are schools of tuna jumping out of the water. And there is this feeding frenzy that's happening where apparently, I guess what happens is dolphins and tuna team up and they catch smaller fish. And there's like schools of this, you know, there's just hundreds of dolphins all around the boat. The guy, the Costa Rican guy gets to the top of the boat, gets a line, throws it out. And what ends up happening is there's all this commotion and it's this incredible experience. And I'm super, I love dolphins, so I thought this was like the coolest thing. Anyways, what ends up happening is my friend Victor, he likes to fish a lot, and I just kind of go in for the fun. I also wanted to go because my, my uncle who passed away like 8 or 10 years ago, he's a business owner. I was always like inspired by him. And also he was a deep sea fisher. It's like, oh, it'd be cool to go deep sea fishing. So I felt this calling to go do it, you know? So anyways, what ends up happening is, um, we get a fish. We caught a line. Victor is the first. I'm like, Victor, you go and take it. He wanted to give it to me to be nice because it was my first time fishing. I was like, no, you take it, because we didn't know if we're gonna catch another one because it was already 6 hours of no fish. Basically, um, he reels in this fish. It's like 20 pounds. It's awesome. It's so stoked. Never— he never even caught a fish that was like that big before. And then the second fish I got, and as I'm reeling in this fish It ends up being a 60-pound fish. It was huge. This fish we caught, we ended up catching 5 more fish, caught over 100 pounds of tuna. We were able to bring it. We had it last night at this, you know, the retreat we had. It was incredible. It was cooked extremely well. But it ended up being this epic experience. Now, here is the thing that I had in the back of my mind the entire time. I knew and expected to catch a fish, but not just any fish. I expected to catch a big fish. I had this expectation, but I wasn't attached at all. And it was just something I kind of knew even when I was feeling seasick. Now, what's funny to me is my friend Victor, who's way more experienced fisherman than I am, he really wanted to catch a fish and to catch a big fish. And what I found happens because there's this other YouTuber I watch, it's called Outdoor Boys. It's got like 8 or 10 million followers on YouTube. And it's this guy that's like an expert at wilderness survival camping, fishing. And it's so wholesome. I watch it sometimes because it's so interesting to me, like how much he knows about fishing and all of these like surviving in the wild and like negative, you know, 20-degree weather and stuff. And he brings his kids. It's pretty crazy. But one thing he said, there was this one fishing video I remember him in, and he caught like 100 fish. In this like 2-hour period, but his kid just kept catching much bigger fish than him. And he said his kid and his wife always catch bigger fish than him. What I thought was interesting is they're probably not attached at all. And in the same way, in somebody that really values it, that really wants it, may be more attached. And I was talking to Victor about this because I feel like he really, he wanted to catch a big fish. He wanted to like have that experience. Was expecting it, but not attached whatsoever. I was good either way. I was like, you can have this one. It was a very different energy in the sense that there was no attachment. But in the background, I expected and I was good either way. So in an interesting way, I knew it wasn't gonna make my happiness. It wasn't going to, it was like, there was no ego involved. Like if I catch a big fish, I'm really cool. None of that. But what I'm saying and the reason I share this story is it made me contemplate this whole idea of expectation with non-attachment. You can expect to have a great— you know, I could go to the gym and expect to have a great workout, but I'm not attached to the outcome. I'm not attached like if I don't have a great workout, then I'm not, you know, I'm not worthy or something's wrong or you don't have to give it too much meaning. In the same way, when it comes to, I can expect to make great YouTube videos but not be attached to it actually happening or to how it happens. You see the difference here in the energy? It makes a big difference when you look at this from this perspective that you are good either way because the energy you want to experience already exists. And what if it's like the energy's already inside of you? And what if the key is enjoying the process along the way? It's more about the process than it is the end result. Now, the belief and the attachment belief is that if we have the end result, then we can feel happy. And that's what robs us of happiness in the present moment. When instead, if you were to start focusing on enjoying the process, being present to the moment, not trying to manipulate reality by getting your needs met, you would be happier. And if you're happier, you're in a higher vibrational state. And if you're in a higher vibrational state, you're good either way. So basically it's like I'm trying to trick you into letting go of your attachment so that you can feel happy now so that you're more likely to be more magnetic, more attractive, and more likely to resonate with the reality you want because If you think about it, the reality you want, quantum possibilities exist in the present moment. It already exists. It's just tuned to a different frequency. But your attachment is what's blocking you from perceiving it. Now, what you wanna start becoming aware of is what are your attachments from childhood? You think, I don't want, I wanna attract a relationship. I don't wanna be single. But you may be subconsciously attracted to being single because that may be more safe than opening up your heart. That might be more safe than being let down, someone breaking your trust or being betrayed. Because if you felt emotionally abandoned as a kid, you might fear that again. And it's safer to be in your room alone. There may be beliefs that, you know, things aren't fair, things always happen to me. There's a story there. You get a payoff from those stories. Don't you know that there's a payoff from these limiting stories? And the payoff is that you get to stay where you are right now. You get to stay attached. Now understand that it's interesting. It's like happiness is around you at every moment, but you can only grasp it that happiness if you let go of what you're attached to inside in your hands. You can only have one thing at a time. You can have your attachment or you can have the happiness. It's up to you. But just like a dog with a bone in its mouth who's trying to get 3 bones in his mouth and it can't, you can only have one at a time. And maybe you have to let go of the attachment in order to have that happiness. It's interesting. It's like the kingdom of heaven is all around us, but we're blind to it because of our attachments. The attachments feel familiar. The attachments feel safe. We've had that attachment for so long. We've carried it around for so long. What if you realize you could just put it down now and that you being happy is what you want anyways? Instead, it's like being in a flow state, being in the process, knowing you're good either way. The more you can let go of attachment, the more happy you will feel. And this is the key to really feeling happy. And to let— this is the magic of letting go and receiving at the same time because your cup is already full. I have a free $1,000 course called High Vibe 101.
