the "think a better thought" bandaid

In this self‑help video Aaron Doughty critiques the popular "think a better thought" approach to manifestation, describing it as a temporary band‑aid that fails to address deeper energetic and belief structures. He shares his own journey from a dissatisfied 9‑to‑5 shoe‑sales job to becoming a full‑time YouTuber, illustrating how merely visualising success did not produce results until he shifted his identity and daily actions. Aaron introduces a causal chain—belief → feeling → thought → action → result—and aligns it with Robert Dilts' logical levels (environment, behavior, capabilities, values/beliefs, identity, purpose). He argues that lasting change requires rewiring identity, releasing the meaning attached to past trauma, and consistently acting from a place of passion and purpose. Practical advice includes daily habit formation, treating side‑hustles as full‑time work, and deliberately stepping into the unknown to create new patterns. The video emphasizes that true manifestation stems from being, not just thinking, and invites viewers to examine the stories they tell about love, money, and success.

Do you find yourself having low vibrational thoughts? Do you find yourself worried about what happened in the past or what may or may not happen in the future? Do you find yourself dealing with years and years of emotional trauma from childhood? Do you find yourself feeling unworthy of love, like you don't deserve love, or like love is very hard to find? Do you find that you're stuck or confused or you don't know exactly what to do, so you just find yourself kind of in this limbo mode not knowing exactly what to do? Do you find that you just want to fly away and be free, but you feel like you're kind of stuck in your current situation or the current circumstances that you're in. Well, luckily for you, I have the solution. All you got to do is think a better thought. That's it. You think a better thought and you don't have to worry about all this stuff. You see, all those thoughts you were thinking, all the worry, all the confusion, all that stuff, they were just low vibe. So if instead you just think a better thought, guess what? They're going to go away. Let me show you right now exactly how this works. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness. Now in this video, I'm going to be showing you why we actually have to go beyond think a better thought. It's a great idea. I think in the instant moments when we're thinking negative thoughts and we do think of a better thought, it can kind of be like a bandaid. It's like we put a bandaid on it and it's like, ooh, I'm thinking a negative thought. Then someone comes over and puts a bandaid on it. It's just think a better thought and you go, okay, I'm thinking a better thought, but then it's still either energy or a belief system that's repressed inside the body or within the psyche. And then what happens is we We continue to experience those realities over and over and over again, even till we're out of the frame. But now I'm back. So this video, I'm going to be showing you how to go beyond think a better thought, and I'm going to be showing you why it goes deeper than that. Now, first off, let me say the biggest difference that has ever made in my life. I used to work— many of you guys know my story. I'm going to tell it again. So I used to work a 9 to 5 job that I didn't enjoy. I sold women's shoes at Barney's New York, which is now out of business. But, uh, before that I worked at Nordstrom's in women's shoes. And every single day I'd go in, I would sell shoes. I wasn't passionate about it and I knew that. And there was other dynamics there like corporate management. Um, it was hard to get the schedule you want. There's just a whole bunch of BS and I was like, man, I know I don't even really want to be here. And I was setting the intention. I was like, man, I know I want to like share these ideas. I want to like make YouTube videos, but I didn't know exactly what to do. Um, I just felt kind of stuck. I felt kind of confused, lack of clarity. But then I started learning about the law of attraction or actually already knew about it, but I started going deeper with it and I I spent like literally 2 years manifesting from the couch, literally like sitting on the couch, like it's a metaphor, but I was like thinking, I was thinking, I was thinking of me being like Tony Robbins going on stage and helping people transform their lives. And I was thinking of it and what I would do is I would always think about it and cool, you know what's kind of cool about this? Some cool things did happen. I met Jack Canfield, I helped Tony Robbins' wife Sage. Like I helped all these people that did that for a living 'cause I was thinking it, but guess what? That never really led to me showing up in the world in a more powerful way and helping people. It was something that was in the thought realm. And the biggest change that was made was not at the thought level. Now look at this, we've got belief, feeling, thought, action, result. Beliefs create reality. Beliefs, and even beyond beliefs is identity. So I'm gonna show you these different ways of understanding this. I think it'll completely transform the way you go about manifestation and the way that you see this whole process. But I just wanna really show you at first that I spent like 2 years thinking and imagining, like, this is what I thought was gonna happen. I was gonna go into work one day, Tony Robbins himself was gonna come in with Sage and then what was gonna happen is he was gonna see me and he's gonna see, he's like gonna be so intuitive, right? He's gonna be so like his third eye is just totally open. And then he looks at me and he goes, you, you are meant to be a speaker. And then he would like tell me, come meet me here tomorrow or something like that. And then he would like see all this potential in me and he would just wanna put me on stage or something like that. That was what I was thinking. And it never happened. I helped Sage. I was like, Sage, where's Tony, bro? Like he's about to come on stage. Tell me this cool stuff, but that never actually happened. Now, some people may hear this that are really into like, you know, the think a better thought ideology and be like, well, you just weren't thinking better, good enough, or you didn't think hard enough, or your subconscious beliefs got in the way. Maybe, maybe they did. But guess what? Like, I think what got me the results was not the thinking. It was when I started being— I started literally— the game changer was when I started to be the version of me, the reality that I wanted to be, which was at the time a full-time YouTuber making videos and doing that and working from home, not having to go into a job that I didn't like. So what I did is I— everyone knows this, you know, the story, if you've been watching my videos, I simply decided to make videos every single day until I never had to have a 9-to-5 job anymore. And guess what? Within 2 or 3 months, videos started going viral. I, within 4 or 5 months, maybe 6 months, I quit my 9-to-5 job. And for a while I was very busy. I was working 40 hours a week selling shoes and I was working 30 hours a week making YouTube videos, but it wasn't just thinking. See, this is the thing. Almost anybody that you see that is successful, that is really successful, they did not get there just from thinking. They got there from being, from being. They were being that version of them and then their reality began to change. And that means action. When you love what you do, you don't mind taking action. When I was making videos every day, it wasn't always easy 'cause I had that 9 to 5 job, But I did enjoy, and I did, I could tell that it was like a passionate thing that was happening. Like my energy was coming through more. And there were, there were challenges along the way, you know, even little things. I lived at my dad's house at the time. He didn't like the fact that I was filming in my sister's bedroom. My sister had a better bedroom and she liked it. She's like, she wanted me to film in the video. She thought it was cool. So I'd go film, but he didn't like that because her room was messy and he didn't want me to leave my tripod around and stuff like that. So there's these little, these little things that would come up. But guess what? I stayed true to that vision. I was being that version of me. And as I was being that version of me, I started to change my sense of identity, the way that I saw myself. I was like, man, I am somebody that makes daily videos. And I literally, before this, when I was just thinking better thoughts, I wasn't taking action. I literally, part of my self-image was that I was lazy, that I wasn't taking action, that I was just this person that was kind of floating around and didn't have clarity. When I started to make the daily videos, doing— I was literally being that version of me every single day. That became my dominant reality. So the biggest thing that you will— that will change is when you decide to be that version of you. This isn't acting as if, this is being as if. Acting implies you're gonna go back to the old identity. You're gonna go to your acting job for the day and you're gonna act like an actor then leaves their job and goes home for the day and then it's their true character. You are being the way you prefer to be. What you do every single day compounds over time. So what I did is I focused on being, which is belief, being that version of me, believing in that vision as well. I did literally believe in that vision and I started to wire it in with action. And I think a lot of people that get trapped in the think a better thought ideology, they aren't really going after something they're passionate about. They're going after like a side effect. They're like, oh, I wanna win the lottery. I wanna win the lot— well, why do you wanna win the lottery? Are you really passionate about winning the lottery? Most people aren't. They just think that would be cool because they want the money. But guess what? Money is a side effect of you doing what you love and the value you can provide in the world. Because videos for me was something I was passionate about, that's why I think the results came for me. This was on my path. This was my, what I wanted to experience in my life. And in a way, what happens is when we're just going after the side effects like money and stuff like that, It's not deep. It's not the identity. It's not the core of who we are. And because of that, we may not actually get that reflection because there's a soul where our soul is involved with this as well. So let me share with you a couple of these little understandings. Now, first off, we got belief, feeling, thought, action, result. So beliefs cause us to feel a certain way based on that feeling. Then we think a thought, the thoughts, and there's many thoughts for each feeling that we have. Our thoughts are equal to our feelings. So if we feel a lot of anger. Let's say we're feeling anger. Well, guess what? Thoughts that come up that are equal to that will find reasons to be angry. We'll find people that didn't do what we wanted them to do. Our thoughts are equal to our feelings. I used to think it was the other way around. I used to argue with this whole model and say, oh no, it's thoughts first and then you feel. No, the belief, the meaning from the belief then causes the feeling, and then the feeling, we have many thoughts that are equal to that feeling, and then from there We take action and then we get the result. So you could say, well, maybe what's meant with think of better thoughts, you think about a thought, then you take a new action, possibly. But from what I found, a lot of people get trapped in a bubble of thought. They're thinking thoughts. Realize that we live in a reality where things are and do have physicality. So over thinking about it, you know, maybe in 5D, in the higher dimensions, maybe you just think it and it appears, maybe, and that, that maybe that, maybe that's the case. But here wired in with action. We came here to experience life through the body. We came here to do things like eat delicious food. We came here to interact with each other in very sensual ways. This is something that we wanted to experience, and that's the beauty of being here on Earth, is that we can. In the higher dimensions, we're just energy forms. Maybe we just dance around in energy forms and we make love energetically, but here we get to do it physically. And it's, it's important to remember that it's not just about thoughts, it's about action, which then gets us a result, which then reaffirms that belief. Now this right here is called the Robert Dilts Logical Levels of Learning or something like that. Something like that. Maybe, maybe it's a little bit different, but here's, you've got environment at the bottom, then you have behavior, then you have skills and capabilities, got them skills, and then you got values and beliefs. Then you got identity, the way that you see yourself, and then you got purpose, purpose, which is like the value that you can provide to the world. So what I did to really manifest the life that I wanted is I got to the identity and started to realize that I had to let go of the identity of being a 9-to-5 job shoe salesperson. I had to let go of that identity so that I can wire in one where I was doing what I love of making videos. I would wire it in every single day with that identity. Literally be that dominant vibration now. And because it was also with the intention of adding value to other people, I feel like it was part of the purpose. And because it was of a higher vibrational why, what happened is it had more power in my life and things happened very quickly. The problem is I think a lot of people, they stay in the thought realm and what they do is they, they're not focused on what actually adds value, what they're really passionate about from the heart level, how they really see themselves. Which part of this means letting go of your past, letting go in your past. Your past does not equal your future. So the key to this as well is becoming aware of meaning. What is the meaning of yourself? What is the meaning of who you think you are? Well, you see, this is the scale of consciousness I share in almost every video, right? Shame, fear, guilt, anger, neutrality, willpower, acceptance, reasoning, which is the intellect of the mind, our beliefs, the meaning we give to things, and then love, unconditional love, which doesn't need meaning. You have to go beyond the mind to be into just the love, just to be present to the moment, and you can realize you just feel connected to other people. Now, the key to this process though is realizing that it's about meaning. The meaning that you gave to your past may be keeping you in similar patterns over and over again. The meaning you give— think about what is your story about love? What is your story about money? What is your story about success? What is your story about the way the world works? These are stories, these are meanings. Those meanings will remain on autopilot even if you change your thoughts. You may have a belief or a thought or a story that says women aren't attracted to me, or that says— or maybe you have a belief that says women are attracted to me, but it's this type of woman, or it's men, or whatever the situation is. But the idea is that belief might be there, like, well, I just gotta think a better thought. Well, now women are attracted to me. Oh, now I attract the perfect nurturing woman or something like that. Well, then what happens is we're thinking the better thought, we're thinking the better thought, but the problem is we still have a belief, we still have a story that says the opposite. And remember, we get a reflection in our life of what we believe to be true and what and who we are, which is our identity. So the key is going beyond think a better thought and focus on the identity work, which means becoming aware of your old identity and then wiring in a new way of being, which is connected to your heart. So for me, I was letting go of the 9-to-5 job person. I was letting go of my painful past, of the meaning that I gave to my past, where I had this abusive stepmom from 7 to 16 years old, very controlling. My brother and I weren't allowed to have friends. We weren't allowed to do, and we had to earn going to school. That was a story. And even though it was true from a certain perspective, what I had to do is I had to become aware of that meaning, and I literally changed the meaning. I saw that that actually led me to my spiritual awakening, that pressure of my past. And that my past does not have to equal my future. I changed the meaning, and then as I changed the meaning, then I could start wiring in a new way of being where I actually help people wake up to who they are. I help people who've also been through a lot of trauma growing up and stuff like that and help people to create their dream life because I've done it in my own life, you see. So I changed— that actually led me to being able to help people wire in their new reality. So how do you change your identity? What you do is you first off got to become aware of your old identity. Become aware of your old meanings. Realize your past does not equal your future. But then what you do is every single day, what you do every day over time compounds. Make it a daily habit to do what you love every day. You don't know what you love every day? Make it literally your full-time job to find out what your passion is or what you're passionate about in the moment. Doesn't have to be some big overarching thing. Follow your passion in the moment. And what you do is as you begin to wire it in, you literally treat your, your side hustle and your hobby as your full-time. It becomes your dominant reality. It becomes the way you see yourself. Every— what you do every single day on becomes your autopilot. It becomes your sense of identity. I made videos every single day, even while I had that 9-to-5 job, but eventually I got rid of that 9-to-5 job and I just was this version of me. And I've been that since 2017. And any of you can do this. This is not hard to do. It just does involve going beyond just the thoughts, going beyond and going into the identity. Realizing that everything's about meaning. Everything is fundamentally neutral. Got a rainy day? It could be good, it could be bad. Depends on the meaning you give it. In the same way, even our painful past, we can give it negative meaning. I look at my brother and I, he gave it a very negative meaning. I did it too at first, but then I eventually changed that and it led to my spiritual awakening and I gave it a positive meaning and now I have a totally different reality because of it. Same situation happened, different meanings. You can change the meaning at any time. These things are flexible. Your personality is flexible. Your identity is flexible. You are not trapped because of any astrology, numerology, tarot card reading, anything a psychic says. You can be free by making a new choice about who you are and realize that every moment's a new moment. And that what you begin to do is you begin to go, who do and how do you prefer to be, to be, to express yourself in the world? When you go to being, that's where the power is. Being versus thinking. Last little tip I have for you is step into the unknown. When you step into the unknown, you allow new potentials to come into your reality. When you're doing what you know every day, you're going to continue to get the same result over and over and over again. You think, feel, and act the same way every day, you get the same result over and over again. I was working a 9 to 5 job I hated, venting to my coworkers, going home every day thinking about what I wanted to create, but it wasn't actually happening. So I was feeling negative emotion because of that. And instead I changed those things. I stepped into the unknown. I started putting myself out there online. I started making videos. I started, I learned marketing, I learned these things that didn't feel so high vibrational, but I had to, but once I did, it wired in a new identity. I started to see myself different, everything began to change, but in the unknown is where the magic happens. Otherwise, the mind will just give you similar experiences based on what's comfortable. You get into the unknown, magic happens. Go to that yoga class, talk to that person that you feel scared to talk to, make new friends, go after that job that you thought you weren't worthy of, start to see yourself as worthy to go after that job. These are things that change your identity. Step into the unknown and watch the magic that happens. So what do you think? Do thoughts create reality, or are you going to go beyond, think a better thought? Let me know in the comments below. Like this video if you like this video, and other than that, I will talk to you later. Peace, much love, and namaste.
