The Top 3 Things I've Learned from Meditation

Aaron Doughty shares three insights from meditation: feeling good is a choice you make internally, not something you need substances for. Your thoughts and beliefs shape your reality and what you manifest. The only real moment is now, and staying present cuts anxiety and regret.

Welcome to another video. In this one, I'm going to be speaking about the top 3 insights that I've had from meditation, insights that I've had since I've been meditating, and some things that I've had that come through during my meditations themselves. And it's not going to be too deep, but part of it is. And another reason I wanted to do this video is because I've grown out this beard and I was like, shit, I need to do one that's on more of a spiritual mindset before I trim it down. So that's why you get this one right here. And what I'm gonna be talking about is the 3 things that I've had that changed my life through the insight of meditation. So the first one is the idea or the fact for me— and once again, one thing that I believe is true in life is that all truths are true. So these 3 that are true for me may not be the same insights that you get from meditation or in your own true life experience, but at the same time, it's just a guideline for what's worked for me. So the first one is the fact that feeling good is a decision, that in this moment right now, you can either allow the pure essence of who you are, the good feeling thoughts to come through you, or you can have caveats as to how you feel. You can resist who you naturally are, which I don't necessarily encourage. But it's something that I've had to go through the experience, the process of, in order to understand what really works for me and then what doesn't work for me. And what doesn't work for me are these ideas, are these things that we think to be true about ourselves. We think that we need to put certain things into our body to feel good. Now, at some level, this is true with food in general, because food in general is necessary in order to sustain life. So the food that you put is at some level an energy source that you need. So there are some things that you do need externally to make you feel a certain way, but it depends on the intention behind what you're putting into your body. So when a couple of years ago I was finding myself, I would drink a lot and I would smoke a lot, and there's nothing wrong inherently with these, but what I realized was that I was relying on something external of my body in order for me to feel a certain way. And I decided in one moment, uh, and this came through meditation, through me understanding a couple key concepts, the fact that we create our own reality from the thoughts that we think, from the beliefs that we have. And once I really began to embody this idea, I began to notice that isn't something that I need outside of my body in order for me to feel a certain way. I wanted to know that the feelings that I had during my meditations, because when I really began to embody this feeling this stillness, the silence, a peaceful, calm feeling flew through my body. It was something that I began to cultivate more and more because the more that I meditated, the more that I was able to feel it on a, on a level where I could do it just by thinking about it, just by allowing it to flow through me. So once I became aware of this, I was like, I need to make sure that this is really just me and there's no external influence that's making me feel this way. And I'm not kidding you guys, I feel bliss majority of the time. I feel excited. I found my true passion in my life and I'm taking action towards it every day. So I feel this energy inside of me. I wake up excited for my days and the reason being is because I've went inwards. I found out what I really love to do and because of that, anything else seems like a distraction to me. So understanding, deciding to feel good has been one of the most impactful, insightful things I've learned from meditation. The second thing that I've learned is that we create our own reality, right? So it's this idea that there is a correlation between the thoughts that we think to the effects that we get out of life. And this is something that I've understood more and more as time goes on because I think that I'm so tuned to it at this point so that I really see the correlation. And the idea is that if you are able to see the correlation, you're really able to measure the process. If you were to believe that you don't create your reality, which is just as an equal belief and it's just as valid because like I said at the beginning of the video, all truths are true, uh, that could be the reality that you choose, but there's no distinction between the correlation of what you're experiencing because if you were to do something, you would assume, and then something were to happen, you would just kind of assume that it was a victim of circumstance or that there was no correlation between the two ideas. But where's the power in that? Where's the fun in being able to visualize what you want, to see what you want, to feel and have the emotion towards the desire that you have, and then to see the manifestation of it or to see it pop into your life because you're tuned to a certain perception or to certain thoughts or to certain momentum. So this idea is that we are constantly creating our reality through the thoughts that we think, through the emotions that we have, through how we feel. And that the more we do this, the more we're able to have a momentum of understanding and seeing the correlation between our thoughts and then what we're getting out of life. So at this point in my meditations, what I really had to do was reexamine all the things that I believed to be true about myself. I had to reexamine all the things that I identified with. Uh, I had to reexamine what I thought was necessary in my life and then what I could get rid of in order to have a more organic experience in itself, like processed foods or alcohol or what have not. So this is the idea. The idea is that because we create our own reality, because through our perceptions, through our beliefs about what we believe to be true about ourselves, there's an ability then to cultivate a reality that I prefer. So I was able to more consciously create my own reality over the next 5 or 10 years. I have a lot of goals for myself. I have a lot of things that I'm constantly constantly working for, and I believe that a lot of those wouldn't be cultivated at the level it is now if it weren't for me beginning meditation. And meditation for me was the ability to really just focus, the ability to really just see what I want, to know that it's something that I'm going to achieve. The third insight that I've had is this idea that the only moment that exists is right now. Now really begin to think about it. Really think about it. Have you ever experienced the past? Have you ever experienced tomorrow? Have you ever experienced yesterday? Now those were ideas, but yesterday it was this moment now, right? Like yesterday you weren't like, hey, it's yesterday. You were like, it's this moment right now. Tomorrow is an idea that we use for night for convenience, but does it really have any inherent reality? You can either allow the goodness of who you are, allow the energy of who you are to flow through, Or you can resist it by having these caveats, these beliefs, by projecting yourself into the past. There's something you feel guilty about or there's something that you didn't want to happen. Or in this moment right now, you can project yourself out to the future wanting something to happen, worrying about something, which is what anxiety is, focusing on a period of time in the future that doesn't even exist anyways. The only moment that exists is this moment. Right now. And your ability to tap into this moment, to really embody yourself, is what will really give you the leverage in life towards getting what you want in life. Because when you're more present to the moment, you're able to really accomplish a lot more. Because when you're more in the moment, there's something about your energy that really changes. People are drawn to that presence that you can, that you can cultivate. And understanding that The moment of now is the only moment that really exists anyway. So inherently, logically, it only makes sense to be present, to not be focused on the past, on the future, still have goals for what you want in the future, but don't identify so much with them that you're not able to really enjoy your life now. When you enjoy your life, you're really able to then cultivate a better future because you are more present to the moment and you're allowing things to flow rather than revisit resisting the events of life experience. So these are the 3 biggest insights that I've had from meditation. Um, it's stuff that I think a lot of other people, a lot of insights that a lot of other people that meditate have come to the same similar type of conclusions. Uh, it's stuff that you may find if you start meditating, you may not. Remember, the one truth in life is that all truths are true. So if I believe something, it doesn't mean that it's going to be true for you. And if you believe something, it doesn't mean that it's going to be true for other people. It's a very empowering thing because it means that we're creating our own reality together because we're connected. So I hope you guys enjoyed.
