Why Being DISTRACTED By Everything Means You're NOT MANIFESTING

Aaron Doughty argues that spreading your attention across multiple projects blocks manifestation. He points to his own 2017 YouTube success: focusing solely on daily videos created flow, but adding email marketing and other tasks diluted his progress. Simplify to one or two core priorities aligned with your zone of genius.

Doing or focusing on too many things is blocking you from actually attracting what you want. And in this video, I'm going to show you how to get out of this cycle, this trap that is keeping you where you are, and how to finally make progress, create momentum, and move in the direction you want. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron. I help people expand their consciousness. Now, the first thing we must realize about this process of manifestation is that manifesting or creating your dream life, it does take focus. It takes focus on an outcome. However, the thing that I've noticed is that when I personally get focused on too many things, I try doing it all, then what happens is the resistance is created because you really can't, you can't create momentum in any one direction. So when I, back in 2017, went full-time on YouTube, one of the things I did is I realized this, and I'm even going back to my roots now with this, but in 2017, in February, I started making daily videos on YouTube. All I would think about is making videos. All I would do is come up with new titles, come up with new thumbnails, and I would like eat, breathe, sleep YouTube. That's all I focused on. And then eventually I learned about something called, you know, having an email list and internet marketing, and I started focusing on these different things, but I noticed that pretty quickly when my attention started to get diluted, things were harder for it to grow because there was less energy going into that vision. So if you're feeling right now like you're doing too much, you're visualizing too much, focusing on too much, and you're feeling kind of like you don't know which step to take in what direction, what I would recommend you do is you cut out or you let go of the things that is not conducive to the one vision that you might have. And there's a book called The Upper— or what's it called? It's called The Big Leap. It talks about something called the upper limit problem. And the upper limit problem talks about how we all have a ceiling for something we can create, but how we have these like different forms of self-sabotage that come in. But one of the things it talks about is that there's something called the zone of incompetence, the zone of competence, the zone of excellence, and the zone of genius. And the thing that I'd encourage you to look at, the thing that I'm looking at is what is my zone of genius and my zone of excellence? And how can I not do or not really focus as much on the zone of incompetence or the zone of competence even? And the goal is to be doing more and more of what you love and more of, more of what you're passionate about, because that's the energy that's connected to your heart. And I've noticed that now that I'm back to making almost daily videos, which was my roots back in 2017, it's like I can feel more momentum there. I feel more passionate. And focusing though on too many things, every time I realize I'm doing it, it's, it's the key is actually letting go of doing and focusing on too many things. So one thing that I highly recommend you do is you look at what in your life you can let go of and stop doing that's maybe no longer serving you or isn't bringing you towards your goal or your intention or whatever it is and start to simplify it. I've noticed even this is like a macro thing within my own business, but I have like people that I, you know, have that work for me and we are all a team. And what I've noticed that something we're doing is we're looking at each of our individual strengths, like our superpowers, and only doing that one or two things. There's only one or two focuses per person. And I actually, Found out about this because originally I was listening to this story and talk about the guy that owns, that's the new CEO for Disney. And one thing that he did is he said, okay, what we're doing at Disney is we're only gonna focus on animation, this, and something else. It was like 3 things. But because they were only focused on 3 things, not only did he become the CEO, but he also made incredible growth because it's simplified and everybody understood their purpose within those 3 things. So even within my business, I know that like when I'm making videos, I'm getting things out there into the world. It's like my highest leverage point thing that also I enjoy doing. I'm passionate about creating content. And then I have other people on my team that are like really love making systems. That's not my zone of competence or even income. Like that's the zone of my incompetence or competence. It's not my zone of genius, but that's their zone of genius. So they do that, you see. There's other people that their zone of genius might be marketing. Their zone of genius might be, you know, that's within the business. But just in general, what I would encourage you to look at is realize that when it comes to manifestation, the distractions you may be experiencing are literally keeping you in a familiar territory, in a familiar zone. And one of the other things, I have videos on this, but I talk about dopamine. And how I think dopamine might be killing your manifestation. Dopamine is what is released in the brain, and it's like a hormone, a neurochemical that we experience pleasure with. And the thing is, is when we're watching different television shows, we'll release dopamine. After we have sex, we'll release dopamine. Dopamine when we're doing certain things, maybe even a flow state. And the thing is, is many of us are so overridden with dopamine because society has primed it that way that it's hard to gain momentum in any one specific direction because we're so distracted. I know when I get into a little portal of television shows, I've watched all of Vikings, Game of Thrones. Now I'm going through a show called Raised by Wolves. Like there's all of these shows. And I noticed that when I'm looking at them, not only do my dreams start to mimic and mirror, what I'm watching, but I can just tell it brings a little bit less potency because it's like a reward. It's like you go into an alpha state and you enjoy whatever you're experiencing when it comes to like, you know, being in that state of like passiveness and being able to watch stuff. But I can tell that not only is it affecting my dreams, not only is it affecting my energy, but also there's less potency towards me doing what I'm actually passionate about. And an interesting thing is when I get up in the morning, like I got up this morning, I wrote it, I was gonna film the video, but I was looking for the right lighting and stuff and I settled with this. But I ended up writing an email. And when I started writing that email, I started getting more in the flow state. And then after the email, I came over here and I'm now filming. And it's like, I'm focusing on all my work right now. I'm in Costa Rica, gonna be doing a plant medicine retreat out here. And what I notice is like when I batch all my work and I'm focused, it's like there's way more momentum, there's way more potency, and it only gets easier as time goes on. So me committing to the daily videos, it's like I get into this frequency of being in my heart and doing what I'm passionate about. And every day I do it, I get into this repetition of being in the state. I'm able to kind of ride that out and it gets easier and easier for me to do. And I used to always say this to people too when I was making videos. They'd ask me, how do you make daily videos on YouTube? And it was actually very easy for me as a part of my identity. Because when you do anything consistently, it starts to become a part of your identity and who you are. So you're doing it not because of the result it gets you, not because of the YouTube subs and the growth. It's more so you're doing it because it's who you are. And that's one major thing I also wanna share with you in this video that I hope you could take away is when you're taking on your identity and you're focused on what you love, there's not as much effort. You don't have to try as much because you enjoy the process. Now, the difference is when you're doing something to escape a certain situation or outcome, it's a means to an end. You're doing something to get you somewhere else. Which emphasizes that you're not there already. But when you do something that's an end of itself, you will notice that your energy transforms. Your heart is actually expanded. There's more energy, there's more momentum there. If you were to, I read this book once by what's his name, Thich Nhat Hanh or something like that. Kind of like an Eckhart Tolle type teaching. It talked about how you can make it a meditation to like do wash, I don't really like washing dishes, If you wash dishes and you make it like you're present to the moment and you don't wash the dishes so that you can then have clean dishes and eat something, but you wash the dishes for the sake of washing the dishes, you will find that it makes the process so much more enjoyable. So when we talk about distractions and how it blocks manifestation, one of the main things is, is people are just so primed for dopamine. Look at this shiny object. Look at this over here. What about this new law of attraction manifestation technique I heard about? "Ooh, the 5x5 method. Ooh." I don't even know what the 5x5 method is or any of these manifestation techniques because to me, not judging it, but it's like, it seems it's a permission slip. The power is in the things that we believe resonate for us. And if you resonate with a 5x5 method, freaking great, awesome, then do it. But that means that that's a permission slip you're giving yourself. The truth is what I believe would make your life so much more simple is have a vision for the kind of person, imagine your future self, your ideal identity, whatever we wanna call this. I like that, ideal identity. What is your ideal identity? When really this is about letting go of the identity and becoming more merged with the higher self. But imagine what that is and imagine what would that version of you do every single day? What would that version of you do not to get anywhere else, but what would that version of you do because it's who you are? And what you wanna do is realize that this is who you choose to be and that you can embody that every single day. Why? Because it's who you are. And when you do that consistently, you end up wiring it in and then you end up expanding your heart center and it becomes easy to focus. One of the reasons it's hard for people to focus is because they are so distracted, because they haven't learned how to just focus. And I get it, because for a long time I was spinning my wheels working at Barney's New York in women's shoes, and I was like, I know I want to be on YouTube, but what am I actually supposed to do? And it wasn't until I committed to the vision of making videos every single day that my life transformed. I had to commit to that identity, wire it in every single day, and within 3 to 6 months, my whole entire life transformed. But I couldn't keep getting distracted. I had to hold my own frame and not let other people tell me exactly what to do as well. Even in my business now, there's times I've paid as much as $5,000 for a 2-hour business session for, for like business strategy stuff. And it's great. I've gotten a lot of value out of it, actually. But What I realize is like, no matter what coaches tell me to do, even having a YouTube coach, you know, what I'm learning is I have to focus on my one thing and trust my own intuition, my own energy. Like I have to trust myself, my own frame. And instead of being disempowered by trying to do what everybody else tells me to do and trying to go for that, There's something I've shared in a couple videos now, so sorry if it's a little repetitive. I know I make daily videos on YouTube, so my videos are kind of repetitive, I get it, if you've been watching me for a while. But there's this thing called the Backwards Law by Alan Watts. He talks about this. And the idea is that the more you try to do anything, the more you try to control, the more out of control you will feel. The more you try to get someone's validation, the more reluctant they will be to give it to you. It's the more we do anything in the present moment emphasizing this isn't good enough already, I want something more, the more resistance we create. Most of the self-help development industry is rooted around this idea. The more you have to change, you have to heal, you have to accomplish this, you have to manifest this. Why? Why not just be happy with this moment right now? Why not enjoy the process? That's why desire blocks manifestation too. The more we desire anything, the more we emphasize this isn't here yet. But what we can begin to do is to not so much focus on manifestations, not so much be distracted by all these little gimmicky things, but instead, Focus on what we're actually passionate about. Make a commitment to the identity of how we prefer to be called, the ideal identity if we want. And then choose to be it every single day because it'll get you somewhere else. No, because it's who you choose to be. Distraction is literally diffusing your focus. It's diffusing it. It's like this thing over there. And like, not that you can't have it all. You can't manifest the loving relationship and the money and the abundance and all that stuff. In the health. But what I found is that when I'm focused on 1 or 2 things, it's the most potent. For a while, I was trying to gain muscle. So I was like, okay, I'm trying to expand my business, do live events, which I've never done before. But by the way, the first live event ever is gonna be on May 6th, 7th, and 8th in Austin, Texas. If you haven't joined yet, there's only 80 spots available. You can click the link below or you can join virtually. Click the link below to check that out. But we're gonna be going through this shift, connecting with people, and going through a transformative experience from the inside out. But I'm focusing on that. I can't also, like, not that I can't also focus on growing my body and like, but I'm realizing like putting all this pressure on myself to like grow muscle and do all this stuff, it's like diffusing my energy and me going into this new thing I'm doing, which is the live events. So what I've realized is I pick 1 or 2 priorities, not that I don't like work out at all. Like I still work out every day. I'm gonna do a workout probably soon. But what I realize is like I have 1 or 2 main priorities, main focuses, and that's all I focus on. You know, like my buddy Victor, we have something called Full-Time Purpose where we help people go full-time doing what they love. And my role in that is like the marketing, getting people in and stuff like that and get people to understand how to go full-time doing what they love. His role is he does the coaching calls and he loves it. He's just focused on that. You know, that's like his zone of genius, what he loves doing. So it doesn't feel like work. So it's like knowing your role and knowing the 1 or 2 things I think is important. So one thing I highly recommend you do is comment below and claim what is your 1 or 2 things that you're gonna focus on? And what is 1 or 2 things you're gonna let go of? Let this be your account of accountability where you come back in 6 months and you realize your whole life's changed because you committed to this 1 or 2 things and you've let go of all the other BS things that are keeping you distracted. And when you do that, you'll find that it just makes this process so much easier for you. It simplifies so much things. I get up, like I wrote it. My thing is like I write an email every day. And then what I do is I make a piece of content, like a video every day. That's it. And then eventually it'll be like doing live events and stuff, which is coming up May 6th, 7th, 8th, if you haven't checked it out yet. But that's it. It's simple. Now I will say as well, there are, If you find yourself procrastinating, self-sabotaging yourself, maybe you feel like you have imposter syndrome, maybe you're, you procrastinate for taking action or you're a perfectionist, watch this video right here. It will change your life and you'll notice that so much changes as a result from watching this one video on how to cure procrastination.
