Why doing this to your posture can change your life and 3 tools to help you become more confident and the best version of yourself. So the topic behind this video was inspired by one of my favorite TED Talks, which is by a Harvard professor named Amy Cuddy. And what Amy Cuddy talks about, this idea that how body language shapes who we are. Now, the reason I want to talk about this is because it's something that I applied in my own life and I've been able to make a change with how I feel. Now, this is something that is also backed by science. Now, the idea behind what she says is that if we stand in what is called a power pose for about 2 minutes a day, we're able to actually release more testosterone and less cortisol. So the act of being in certain poses influences our body towards releasing different hormones based upon which poses we do. Now, she, Amy Cuddy, uses what are called power poses, and that's what she advises people do. Now, a power pose is anything that opens up your body language, and normally the most popular one she does is called the Superman or Superwoman, which is you put your hands on your sides like this, and then what you do is you put your chin up, your chest out, your shoulders back a little bit. Now, she says that doing this for 2 minutes helps you release more testosterone, less cortisol, and that after this she did a series of studies where she showed that people afterwards were more likely to take risks, were more confident, and using saliva samples they were actually able to prove that there is more testosterone release and less cortisol. Now the body language that we have, that we use, affects not only the people that are perceiving us, because a lot of times when we act in a certain way people can read nonverbal cues as to who we are and how we view ourselves, but also that even more important than that is how we feel about who we are. So the idea is that if we can do certain tools to get us to think differently about who we are, we will then have a different type of life or we're then going to think about ourselves in a different kind of self-image. The most important thing is not how people perceive you. It is how you perceive yourself. So if you work through the inner things, if you cultivate more powerful positive emotion, you're going to then begin to see and feel differently about who you are. Now onto the 3 tools that I want to give that are powerful ways that we can change our life through understanding how to do our posture. So the first one is very simple. It's what Amy Cuddy talks about with the power pose for 2 minutes a day. Stick to the idea of doing the power pose, do it for 2 minutes a day and see if it makes a difference in how you feel. This is something that you can do before you do something that's important, or you could just do it every day to see if it makes you feel a little bit different. Now So let's go to the second one. The second one is something that I have applied in my own life and I found it to be very powerful, but it's this idea that we can look into and imagine ourselves. It's a visualization process, but imagine the most perfect version of who you are. Now for me, for example, this is somebody that travels and speaks to people, uh, has a lot of different types of interactions, helps people change their lives. It's all these little things, but when I think of that Aaron, like that version of me, I think of that person doing everything I'd want to do with the body language that I would have, and because I do that, I'm then able to entrain with that version of myself. So the idea is that realizing this then gives me the ability to match that reality, to match that body language, and I believe that the more that I do that, the more that I actually become that. Now there's a little bit of other research that I've done in this area too, and it's partly loosely connected to the idea of neuroscience, which I talked about in one of my prior videos, but it's this idea that if we do it more consistently, Whatever we focus on, we tend to become more of. So if we want to entrain with the perfect version of ourselves, imagine what that will be for you. Now, if for example you're an artist and you want to see yourself putting up amazing art in studios, envision what that person would look like. Now it's still you, but envision that perfect version of yourself. How would they look? How confident would they be about the art they're producing? How would they speak to other people about the art that they're making? What kind of interactions would they have? Now these are all things that if we think more about when we're trying to be the perfect or the best versions of ourselves can help us to actually become more of that. So that's the second tool. The third tool is how we can do different activities that open up our body language more. Now this idea then is that there are certain activities that open up the level of, of being open with our body language that actually make it easier that we can have better posture in general. And one of those is the idea of yoga. Yoga is something that I do once a week. I do Bikram yoga, which is also good for releasing toxins in the body, but more so than that. So this idea that when I do yoga, I feel very good. It opens up my body language and then I then have better body language naturally. Now, if yoga doesn't resonate with you, there's a ton of other things you can do. You could do different levels of exercises, you could run, you could do different levels of physical activity and anything that gets your body in motion for the most part will tend to open up your body language, and when you open up your body language, you will tend to have better posture naturally. So the 3 tools are doing the power pose for just a couple minutes a day, seeing if that makes a difference in how you feel. The second one is in training with the perfect best self that you can imagine, having the same type of body language, understanding that what you focus on, you tend to become more of. And then the third one are doing activities that gets you to open up your body language naturally. Whether that be yoga, whether that be doing different levels of exercise, whatever that might be, do what works for you. Remember that the most important thing is not what other people think about you, but it's about what you think about yourself. So if you can do anything to up your self-image by having these kinds of tools, they're powerful things to do because you will then take action based upon what you think your potential is. And if you have more testosterone in your body, less cortisol, less stress, you're then feeling better and you're then able to really make a change for the better. So that's it for today. I hope you guys enjoyed. Feel free to like or subscribe below. And other than that, see you guys on the next video.
