Why overthinking is lowering your vibration. (how to FIX it)

In this monologue, Aaron Doughty argues that excessive thinking is a survival‑mode mechanism that traps us in fear, resistance, and low‑frequency vibration. He illustrates the point with a bungee‑jump metaphor, evolutionary analogies (the gazelle’s shake‑off), philosophical references (Eckhart Tolle’s “I think, therefore I am,” Jung’s quote on resistance, and the book Don’t Believe Everything You Think), and personal anecdotes about his own years of over‑analysis before launching his YouTube channel in 2017. Doughty explains that over‑identifying with thoughts keeps us stuck, while observing thoughts without attachment creates space, reduces mental chatter, and raises our vibration. He contrasts toxic positivity (the “Hello Kitty” archetype) with authentic emotional integration, and shows how entering a flow state—being present, feeling love, joy, or purpose—naturally diminishes thinking. Practical guidance includes meditation, mindful observation of thoughts, and taking immediate action rather than endless planning. The video concludes with a call to a free workshop and a $1,000 “High Vibe 101” course offered for free, encouraging viewers to apply the described techniques to raise their vibration and achieve more.

The more you think, the less you actually do. Now imagine that you're on the top of a cliff getting ready to do some form of bungee jump. And what happens is you go to the front of the ledge and you start to think about it and you think about it and you're looking over and you're analyzing it and you're thinking about it. What you will be told by the guy that is there that is strapping you up safely so that you can do this life-changing breakthrough of jumping off this base jump thing is that the best advice you can be given is that the more you think, the less likely you are to actually jump. Just don't get caught up in your head. For so long, so many people hold themselves back because They have this survival mechanism that is thinking. Thinking, thinking is necessary. It's good. Thinking, most of it, 80% or more of it is negative. Thinking wants to keep you in a little box. It wants to keep you in safe and familiar territory. Now, one of the biggest breakthroughs and shifts in consciousness you can have is when you change your relationship to thinking. And understand that the less thoughts you think, the higher your vibration. The less you are over-identified with trying to think your way through things, the more you will allow things to happen in a much more magical way. Now, I had this shift a few months ago when I was understanding and learning about the relationship to my thoughts. And when I realized that I was reading a book, what was the book called? It was called "Don't Believe Everything You Think." And in this book, it talks a lot about this concept. And I realized like, wow, my thinking is what keeps me in survival mode. There's that old quote, right? It says, "I think, therefore I am." Eckhart Tolle has said this. That was one of the first flaws in thinking that was identified with thinking. I think, therefore I am. So what if you're not thinking, you don't exist? What about the eternal presence that is within you? And think about it, ironically enough, when you are thinking and you say, I am this, who is it that is saying, I am this? Who is it that is observing the thoughts? Interesting, right? So when we realize that one of the biggest shifts in consciousness you can have is when you understand that your thinking only wants to keep you in the same. Your thinking is a survival mechanism. Even think about it at an evolutionary standpoint. Back in the day, we're probably just being So this incredible tool to think and problem solve was probably created out of necessity. When you think of the need to just be, like most of the animals are just being, right? They're just being, they're present, they're doing their thing. Maybe there's a predator around. But what happens is as humans, we store on, we grasp onto stories. Like a gazelle, for example, this is something my shadow work coach told me years ago that really stuck with me. If a gazelle is away from the herd or even with the herd and then gets chased by a lion, gets into fear mode, it then releases all this adrenaline, gets away. Before the gazelle goes back into the herd, it will shake like crazy and it will shake off the stored trauma, go back into the herd, and then within 10, 15 minutes, just complete, it's more, it's relaxed. Doesn't store the story, the meaning, and isn't dwelling on it all the time. It's naturally processing the emotion, which is interesting too, because once the animal goes back into the herd is when it feels safe. And before it does that, it has to shake off the stuff. So it's this release of energy that isn't very void of thinking, that isn't full of thinking. But as a survival mechanism, what if we developed this ability to think as a survival mode? And this is why a lot of times, by the way, people that overthink, it's never the solution to just overthink and to overanalyze your way out of a solution. Realize that, right? The idea is if I overthink about this thing and I overanalyze this thing, I'm gonna figure it out. But does that actually ever work? When does it normally figure itself out? When you let go of thinking, when you start being, when you take action. It doesn't come from just the thinking because thinking is a survival mechanism that we use to survive. So when you realize the more you think, The more you are blocking, the more you are resisting, the more you're in survival mode, you can then see that what you thought was bringing you a certain amount of success is actually maybe holding you back. When I remember before 2017, getting on YouTube, I was thinking about it for a very long time. I was thinking about YouTube. I was thinking about learning how to edit. I was thinking about how I wanted things to manifest. Thinking better thoughts, thinking better thoughts. I was reading Abraham Hicks and watching Abraham Hicks. He's like, you just gotta think about it. You gotta think a better thought. You gotta get more momentum. And of course, thinking a better thought might feel better in the moment than feeling the negative, angry guilt or shame thoughts, but it's still attachment and identity with thinking. In fact, I would say that sometimes the thinking and the toxic positivity of wanting to just feel better emotions may be avoiding the actual root that wants to be felt so that you can feel it and heal it, so that you can actually integrate it. Do you see the difference there? Then that, like, there's a Carl Jung quote that talks about, however, whatever you ignore, and whatever you resist grows in size. So if we're gonna ignore the shame, fear, guilt, and anger, and we're gonna feel and think, I am pride, or I am joy, peace, love, enlightenment, this is who I am, what we end up doing is the repressed energy grows underneath the surface. This is an archetype that I call Hello Kitty Hello Kitty from Lego Movie. You ever seen, I don't know if you ever seen this movie, but there's this Hello Kitty character that's just always positive. I just feel great. And underneath the surface, there is this intense amount of rage. And at the end of the movie, it just unleashes all of this rage. And there is so much power that she was neglecting in herself, that she wasn't allowing herself to tap into. Probably 'cause she was thinking herself out of it. No, I just have to be positive all the time. Have you ever met people like that where there's like this passive aggressiveness where they're like, oh, I'm fine, I'm just doing great, yeah. But you could just feel underneath, they wanna strangle you. There's this energy that's not being looked at, that's not being felt. So what I'm saying with this video is that less thinking is the solution. I'm gonna share with you how to do that too. Like, it's a paradox, right? 'Cause like, think of not thinking, this paradox of the white elephant. Whatever you do right now, don't think of a white elephant, that big white elephant tied to a pole. Don't think of it. You're like, well, that's all I'm thinking about now. How do I think about not thinking, Aaron? I'm gonna share it with you. Could change your life if you apply it. But understand that the key to a lot of this is feeling it and taking action because for 2 years, I was thinking better thoughts. I was thinking about what I wanted to create on YouTube. I was thinking about it, I was thinking about it, I was thinking about it. And then, and I was watching videos and I was like, if I watch more videos and learn more things, then I'll be more ready. Even when I make these YouTube videos, the more I think about the intro, the more I think about it, the longer it takes versus me just getting into a flow state and just allowing it to come through. So realize that thinking will prolong, and what if thinking is a survival mechanism that's literally keeping you from taking action? Like it's serving a purpose. The purpose is it keeps you in survival mode. And for 2 years, I knew I wanted to be on YouTube, but I wouldn't take action because I was thinking about it. I was learning more ideas. How many of you just need to watch one more video that's gonna help you become more enlightened? It's gonna raise your vibration. Just one more meditation, one more video, one more piece of content. And what if that is what's holding you back from taking action? If you were to start and do focus on getting in a flow state, That would change your life. Just start. Take action. When I started in 2017 in February, I started. I moved from thinking to being. I stopped thinking about it. I started being. I decided I'm a full-time YouTuber now. I'm gonna think, feel, and act equal to that full-time YouTuber, but I'm not gonna overanalyze every video I put out. I'm not gonna overly think about this. I'm going to be it. And so many people are so addicted to the dopamine of watching videos, of reading books, of concepts. And here's another paradox. The idea of self-improvement altogether is that I need to improve the self because I'm not good enough the way that I am. So it's a trap because there's always, I need to be better, I need to be better, which infuses I'm not good right now, which infuses I'm not good right now. The problem is just a self-projected energy when there's more self-acceptance that can be there. Let's talk for a moment about thinking better thoughts and understanding that that's not the key. It's more about feeling, but also think about this or don't. No thinking. This is a no thinking zone. I prohibit you from thinking. I'm trying not to think, but I'm thinking about not thinking. But understand that any, like joy, love, if you think about the scale of consciousness, you see shame, fear, guilt, anger, then you see love, joy, peace, enlightenment. When you are in the most amount of love that you can remember, not maybe even just with a person, but imagine a moment of the last couple years that was just extremely blissful and loving. Maybe you were looking at the beautiful sunset with your significant other on a beach. Maybe you were just present with your dog or your cat in this very serene place. Maybe you were with friends and family. Maybe you were by yourself, who knows? I want you to imagine that. And in that moment, what were you thinking of? What were you thinking of? Probably, I'm gonna make a prediction. You could say, I was thinking of my gratitude. I was like, I'm grateful for this. But at the same time, you probably weren't thinking of anything. You may have tied that onto it as a way of thinking. You probably were just present to the moment. When you're enjoying a beautiful sunset, is it what makes the sunset beautiful that you're like, oh my God, that's some orange and red, huh? Oh my God, I just so appreciate this person next to me. That's a side effect of the presence and the connection you feel. So what I would argue is that you're thinking less thoughts when you're feeling more love, joy, peace, and enlightenment. And that kind of proves it, that the times you felt most at peace, when you think about being in a flow state, when you're doing something you love and you're in a flow state, if you're painting and 3 hours goes by and it feels like 10 minutes, What are you thinking about, huh? What you thinking about? You're not, you're present. You're allowing the divine to flow through you. So now you're like, Aaron, well, how do I stop thinking? You stop thinking when you start observing your thinking. You observe it from a neutral place because that creates separation, some space. If you think about it, it's like, don't think about it, okay? Just be present with me. But it's the thinking, it's like I'm thinking thoughts, but if I observe myself thinking thoughts, space. This is a huge epiphany for me back in 2012 when I learned meditation. I was trying to control my thoughts. I didn't wanna think negative thoughts. I thought, "If I think negative thoughts, I'm gonna manifest something bad." So then I would think more negative thoughts 'cause there was a naughty little side of me that was like wanting to be a rebel. And then eventually I started to observe my thoughts and be like, "What if I think a negative thought?" I just observed that. And then it would just keep going. You wanna know what's funny? Is after a certain period of time of doing this, less and less thoughts are there because there's less resistance infused. So the more you observe your thoughts, the more aware you become of these energies, the more aware you become of your thoughts, And then also the more you allow yourself to feel what comes up, and as you feel what comes up, you then begin to integrate what comes up, then you begin to feel lighter. So it's an interesting paradox because the less thoughts you think, the higher your vibration you feel, and the more you're willing to just take action, the more you're willing to just be. So let thinking be a thing that you begin to develop a new relationship with, not a relationship of control. Imagine you're trying to control someone in your life. You will do what I want you to do. They're gonna resist. Imagine you try to control your thinking. It's gonna resist. Observe your thinking. It's like a 2-year-old toddler that's having a temper tantrum. If you feed it and you're like, you need to stop right now, the child's gonna keep arguing with you. Narcissistic phase of growth where it's like, no, yes, me, mine. And you're like, no, no, no. And then it's just gonna, but if you just observe it and let it be, it'll wear itself out and then take a nap. And when it's your thinking, having a new relationship with thinking and making the goal, getting into a flow state, allowing the divine to flow through, When you are in alignment with wanting to add value to other people, there's something that flows through. I can't even describe it, but everyone has this ability. I know when I'm doing a live event, if I'm overthinking about what I need to talk about and I'm analyzing and I'm writing out every little thing, I create resistance. The best talks I give are the ones where there's the least amount of preparation, there's the least amount of thinking. I just get into a flow state. I can prepare in certain ways, maybe brainstorm ideas and stuff, but like the best ones are when I'm present to the moment. The more present I am, the better it is. And the more in a flow state I am and the more the divine is flowing through me when I have an intention of adding value to those that are paying attention. So you could say the more you think, the less you'll do, and the less you think, the more you'll do and maybe even the more you'll be. This is when you start to become aware of these different energies that we're talking about. Now, understand that thinking less is about observing your thoughts and realizing that maybe the thoughts you're thinking have been keeping you in survival mode and keeping you from actually taking action. Maybe there's a part of it that feels safe. And familiar and known. Feels very safe, familiar, and known to be working a 9-to-5 job you might not like. That was me for a long time. I was like, I know I wanna be on YouTube. I'm gonna think about it, I'm gonna think about it, I'm gonna think about it. But that thinking was just taking years of my life. And eventually I started to be it. And I had to, there's tension that comes either way. There's either tension that comes from the regret of not taking action, or there's tension that comes from actually just doing it. Which do you prefer? But don't think about it too long. So imagine right now you're at the edge of that base jump, getting ready to jump off. You're safe, you've got the harness on, thousands of people have gone before you, you're gonna be fine. But the longer you think about it, the more you're gonna stay on that platform. And if you were to just jump, you would feel free. So there is something I've created, by the way, it's a free workshop called How to Think in High Vibration. It's completely free.
