Why "wanting" is holding you back [detach to attract]

Aaron Doughty argues that actively seeking what you want creates a vibration of lack that repels it. He shares how letting go of a job at Nordstrom Rack led to a better position, and how his detached attitude got him hired at Zappos. The fix: gratitude meditation and feeling like you already have what you desire.

Have you ever noticed that the more you look for anything, the further away it is? Like, the harder it is to find? Like, have you ever seen someone— like, you don't hear this story very often— someone that's looking for love and they are going to all the places and they're going to the yoga class and they're putting themselves in a position to look for love, but they're really looking for it, they really want it, and They want love, they're looking for love, and normally that just blocks love from coming in. How often is it that you hear that people found each other when they stopped looking? Like literally they stopped looking, they started maybe feeling love within themselves, they started having fun with friends, they started going after their passion or their purpose. They kind of forgot that they were trying to attract love. They were no longer looking for it. And then what happens? Someone synchronicity, synchronicity, someone synchronistically, damn, why can't I say that word right now? Someone comes into your life when you stop looking. It's one of the main messages of this video, and I'm gonna show you how to stop looking and how to put the energy back into yourself and why this makes all the difference. Now, I remember as an example of this, and I'll say this too, anytime I attract a meaningful relationship in my life, it comes as a result of not looking. It comes as a result of me being in my own frame, loving my life, and not having that be the fore focus of everything. I've noticed this in other friends' lives. Some of the— like, I was coaching someone the other day also, even in one of my coaching programs, and basically the advice was stop looking, let it go, put the awareness back on you and watch what happens. Now I remember back in, was it like 2008, 2009, when I wanted, I wanted, I was looking for a job. And I remember that when I wanted a job and I went to a job interview and I wanted it, I resisted it. I've only really had 1 or 2 jobs before I went on YouTube. I worked somewhere for 5 years and then I worked somewhere else for 4 years. But I remember when I went to that, I wanted to work at Nordstrom Rack because Nordstrom Rack, I worked at the Nordstrom full-line store for 5 years. But before that, the way that I got in there is I worked at the rack. Now when I first went into the Nordstrom Rack, the Nordstrom Rack, and I applied for a job, I wanted the job and I actually got interviewed by this person named Ibrahima. This guy was in men's clothes and I interviewed for men's clothes and I go in there and I went to the job interview. I thought I did an awesome job. I honestly thought I got the job. And then like 4 days later, I get a call from Ibrahima. I'm over here thinking I'm gonna get told that you got the job. I like dressed all up nice. But I wanted it. But then what happened is he tells me, Aaron, I went with someone else. Thank you though, I think you're a great candidate, but I went with someone else. And I was like bummed. I was like, what? I thought I had that. I was looking for it. I really wanted it. This is confusing. So then one week later, I get a call from someone named Liz. This little Filipina lady that was the manager of women's shoes. She calls me and she goes, hey, I know you didn't apply for women's shoes, but I would love to interview you. I go in, I get interviewed, and I get the job, and I worked at women's shoes, which also in a way, I could not imagine myself being in men's clothes for 8 years. So maybe in a way, the women's shoes definitely was much more of a fit than men's clothing. I also think maybe helping women's shoes helped women. And also most of my audience on YouTube is women, not all of them obviously. But I think also that's 'cause I think the spiritual awakening niche, but I feel like there's this energy where that's kind of like maybe where, not I'm meant to be, but that's just like maybe my natural, like, I don't know. Woman to help, whatever. Point is of this, I did not, I was not attached to the women's shoes. I was attached to the men's clothes. Once I let go, then I got the job. Here's another funny like little segment of this. I really, I remember my, like take me who was not attached to this and my best friend growing up, He and I were hanging out and he goes, hey, I have a job interview later today. You want to come with me? Then we'll go out to eat afterwards. And it was like, he's like, it's a group interview, so you can come too. And I was like, well, I'm pretty sure I got the job at Nordstrom's. However, I'll come out of fun. Here's the cool, interesting thing. It was at Zappos. Zappos shoes. This is like before they really blew up. So if I would have got out of Zappos back in like 2008, I probably would have had stock options and like also shoes, right? But it would have probably been very, very different trajectory. But I would have done well because if I was there for 10 years stock options, like it would have been, I just keep saying stock options, stock options. But here we go, okay, so here's what happened. We go to Zappos, which is a very eclectic, eccentric place to work. You go there, they give you a tour, it's a group interview, they're like, here is the nap room. I'm like, what, there's a nap room? That's pretty cool. And they're like, we like weird people. And I'm like, really? That's pretty weird. There's like party streamers in the offices. There's Subway every day. Like, they have different catered food every day. There's like this cool vibe. There's all these interesting rooms. I'm like, this place is pretty interesting, and they like weirdos. So I then get into this thing where there's, uh, it's like speed dating, but it's like speed interviews with different managers. And I go there And here's what I did. I was just like, I don't care about this job because I'm pretty sure I still want Nordstrom's 'cause I got the potential of making commission one day, which is gonna be $20, $30 an hour, which is way more than the $15 an hour they were offering at the time. So I said, okay, here's what I'm gonna do. I am going to just be as weird as possible. So literally I'm sitting there, they're asking me questions, and I'm just saying the weirdest stuff about myself that I can possibly say. And some of it was just exaggerated. One time they asked me like what my favorite pastime hobby was. I'm like, I don't care about this job. I said, I like jump rope. Have you ever jump roped? Oh my God, I just sit there in front of my house sometimes for hours and jump rope. And then hopscotch. You ever played hopscotch? You throw the rock and you hop to the scotch. Like I was just being really weird. And at the end of it, I was like, whatever, I'm unattached, I don't care. I go home and guess what happens 2 days later? My buddy who wanted the job and who was taking it very serious did not get the callback. But guess who did get the callback? This weirdo right here who likes to hopscotch and jump rope on the weekends. Now energetically, why did that happen? Because they resonated with hopscotch and jump rope. They like that. No, I'm just kidding. They, they, they, I was unattached. I wasn't looking. I didn't care. And the main point of this video is when you don't care and you're not attached, you're more magnetic, you're more attractive. When you're not looking, you have more synchronicities and opportunities coming to you. But think about it, what is the vibration of looking? The vibration of looking is not having. I'm looking, are you my soulmate? Are you my soulmate? Are you my soulmate? Are you my soulmate? My soulmate? Are you my soulmate? Are you outside of me? Are you somewhere else that's not here? On the other side of the world. Where are you? Where might you be? You're the other half to my soul. Where are you? Looking, looking, looking for your soulmate guarantees you won't find. You won't find. It always happens when you're not looking. Stop looking. Start putting the awareness back into yourself and focus on having a good time. Not, I'm gonna have a good time because I'm gonna attract love. I'm gonna have a good time because then I'll be more abundant. I'm going to have a good time because— no, have a good time because it feels good. Doesn't it feel good to have a good time? It doesn't need to be a means to an end. Just have a good time. And it sounds so silly because Aaron, you're telling me to have fun. It's like, that's what Abraham Hicks says all the time, right? She's like, it's not just thinking better thoughts, but it's like feel better and you feel better. Then it's like the things come. But here's the thing, who's to even say the ego knows what's best? What if the divine just wants to come through to you and it comes through to you based on how you feel? And if you feel in a high vibrational state, more high vibration things happen. Isn't it weird? Have you ever had that happen where you're in a high vibe state, you're feeling incredible, you're feeling amazing, and then great things happen? And then when it's the opposite of that, not great things happen. When you're not feeling good or you're feeling like a really resistant day, it's interesting, right? Now that's why then the focus, 'cause what most people do is they look on the outside, looking for the soulmate. They're just looking, just looking for the soulmate. The more you look, the more you guarantee you aren't gonna find. Just let it go. Stop looking. Stop looking. Okay, here's my handy-dandy whiteboard of the day. Okay, so look at this. Here's the vibration of looking for it. Here's the vibration of having it. These are two different vibrations. Having it is also fun. It's in the end. It's an end of itself. Looking for it is like, I'm looking because I'm gonna find it. You ever had that happen where you're like looking for your keys? Where's my keys? I can't find my keys. And you're going all around your house looking for your keys, and you'll even go outside. You might go outside and be like, oh, my keys over there. Where's my keys? Where did I— okay, let me think about where I left my keys. Where was I last? All this stuff. And then you want to know what you find out? The keys are in your pocket. You had them the whole time. You just believed you didn't, and then you went looking for it and you went on this wild goose chase. The point of that is, you— whatever you want to attract, you are connected to God's source energy. You're connected to that divine well of energy. Love, money, weights, health— this all— you want this because of what it'll make you feel. And a lot of times we look for things as a distraction from the God source energy that's naturally within us. We might look for approval and validation because we feel a hole. We don't feel that divine energy inside of us. So instead, it's like remembering, remembering, like a member. It's like a part of ourselves, like our hand is remembering. We— it's connected to us. Remember, you're an eternal spiritual being having a temporary human experience. You're dreaming that you're a separate piece of God energy and that we're all separate pieces. We're all reflecting to each other different things, but the things we look for, the things we resist— are you my soulmate? Where's my soulmate? The more you look for your soulmate, the further away they are. Imagine the— imagine the more you look for your soulmate, like, are you my soulmate? Are you my soulmate? In two intuitively to just walk away 3 more steps. They're like, "Hm, hm, hm," until they're out of the frame and you're like, "Where's my soulmate?" It never happens that way. It's always, "I let go, I focused on myself, and the soulmate came." Very, very, very different energy. So the vibration of looking and wanting is different than the vibration of having and being and putting the awareness back on yourself. And remember, the divine has a better plan for you than the ego. The ego's looking, looking, looking for completion and wholeness when you can find that same completion and wholeness within the divine, God, the universe, source energy, whatever name you wanna give it. So the message of the day for today is to stop looking and watch what happens. You want love, money, abundance, whatever, let it go. Focus on your own energy and on feeling in a higher vibrational state. Charge your energetic field. Think of it, it's electromagnetic energy. You charge your field with the gratitude of already having that which you want, but the moment, if you want it, you can't have it. The vibration of being it, the vibration of having it. Every morning I do a guided meditation and I imagine the things and the qualities I wanna bring into my life and I feel it as if it's here now. That gratitude charges my energetic field and electromagnetic field magnetically, I'm gonna find more synchronicities, more opportunities, more coincidences, coincidences that come into my life because my field has changed. What are you grateful for? Was that so cool the way that you attracted love? Already happened. So cool the way you did that. It was so cool the way you let go and you stopped looking and it just happened. I thought it was so cool when you did that. The vibration of already having it. It was so cool when that money just came into your life because you were loving what you were doing. You were adding value by being you. You were in the right place at the right time and money just came into your life as a reflection. That was so cool. You see how I'm speaking to the part of you that's already gratitude, grateful. So the main message of today is that you already have what you're looking for, but if you stop looking, you could see it. It's not like Jim Rohn phone when I talk like that.
