Your Story Is Ruining Your Life (change it like this...)

In this self‑help video Aaron Doughty explains how the personal stories and limiting beliefs we internalize—especially from childhood—create a self‑fulfilling reality that keeps us stuck. He illustrates the concept with vivid anecdotes from his own life (an abusive step‑mom, controlling relationships, work patterns) and shows how those events were given emotional charge through the meanings we attached to them. By becoming aware of these stories, reframing them, and actively doubting their truth, we can release their charge, shift our vibration, and move from a belief‑driven identity to a state of pure being. Aaron introduces practical tools such as Ho’oponopono meditation (a 21‑day forgiveness practice) and a three‑archetype model (victim, hero, villain) to help viewers recognize which role they are playing and to consciously choose a more empowering narrative. Throughout, he stresses that we are eternal spiritual beings having a temporary human experience, and that present‑moment awareness combined with intentional meaning‑shifts can transform one’s life. The video ends with typical YouTube calls to action, encouraging viewers to like, subscribe, and engage with the community.

This video, I'm going to show you how your story is ruining your life, and I'm going to show you a process that's so powerful for transforming the story you currently tell yourself and how this will then change your life forever. Welcome back to another video. My name is Aaron and I help people expand their consciousness, and today I'm going to help you shed an old story. An old level of identity, an old group of belief systems that are no longer serving you. And this is because our beliefs are creating our reality, whether we're aware of it or not. Our beliefs are what determine what we perceive of in our reality. And normally what we hear from people is that we got to believe in ourself, believe in ourself. But the thing is, the problem is, The reason that you may be experiencing negative things in your reality is because you have been believing yourself. Maybe not believing in yourself, well, in a way, yes, believing in the little self, believing in the little ego that's going around, believing that this physical experience is so real, not knowing that you are an eternal spiritual being living a temporary human experience. The problem is though, the story that we tell ourselves consistently is controlling our life. Now, the problem with this is that most people believe the story they tell themselves. They believe, I'm not worthy. They believe, I'm not capable. They believe, I'm an awkward person. There's something wrong with me. I'm not perfect. That belief is the problem. And most people are saying, just believe in yourself. Well, if you were to actually start to question the beliefs you have, your whole life would transform. And this video is gonna show you how to transform your life, some of the key components to changing everything about you. I'm going to condense what possibly could be and take years of research to find out. And I've been going through this process. I ain't perfect. I go through some of this stuff and there's been a gradual process where I dealt with some stuff back in the day, back in 2012 when I realized some things about my past and especially my childhood that I went on for a couple, years, and then I come up to something else, and then even now something else, and it keeps on going where I keep learning. And what I'm gonna share with you is between the years of 2012 to 2019, which is the year we're in right now, I'm gonna show you how I condensed and transformed my life by becoming aware of certain principles here. And that's because when you become aware of these things, that's where all the power is. You're gonna start to wake up to new levels of reality simply by watching this video today. Now here is the thing. Everything in your life is the way that it is. The repetitive story that you tell yourself, you see, your vibration is a combination of how you think, how you feel, how you act. This includes your story, the story that you tell yourself. You have a story that you tell yourself about your relationships, a story that you tell yourself about your health, a story you tell yourself about finance, and that story is keeping the same things happening over and over and over and over again all the way till I'm outside of the frame, but then I come back because the story is I'm here to share these ideas with you, so I'm gonna stay here with you, okay? It's a story I tell myself. These stories though are flexible. They can change, and you can give new meanings to new things. You see, this is the thing that happened. In the past, something happened. What happened? What happened? Huh? What happened? Something happened. Let's say in the past something happened like you were sitting at dinner table and you wanted to say, Dad, can you pass the mashed potatoes? And he said, son, daughter, you're a kid and you're meant to be seen and not heard. I don't care if you want mashed potatoes, seen and not heard. And they say that and you go, okay, Dad, I'm sorry. I just wanted some mashed potatoes. I mean, maybe I'm not worthy. I'm not worthy of having mashed potatoes. There's something wrong with me. I can't express myself. And then it comes along 5, 10 years later, 20 years later, you're sitting at dinner table, you just want some mashed potatoes, but you don't get it. You wanna know why? You're afraid, and even though you're no longer a kid, you still think I'm not to be seen and not heard. That story's been on autopilot subconsciously for many, many years, and maybe no longer is it the mashed potatoes, but it's something else. There's something else that you desire, something else that you want, but yet you don't believe you deserve it because you're not allowed to express yourself. You see, the meanings of things that happen when we're kids absorbed into us. You want to know why as well? When we're a kid, we're primarily in a theta brainwave state. Theta brainwave state is where we're just absorbing. We're like a sponge. We just like, just like sucking in our environment. So here we are as like this sponge sucking in our environment. And what happens is, could be at a certain point, uh, Somebody makes a joke about you or something like this, but you don't know it's a joke and you're like, oh my goodness, you absorb that in and you think that that's a part of who you are. That's a part of your identity. Or you believe that you're not worthy. Made a joke about this before and somebody like, that's a stretch, Aaron. I talked about how, like say for example, I see this sometimes and it makes me so irritated when I see it because I know this, the psychology of a kid is kids think these things are real. So if you are with your little kid and you have like a 4-year-old and you're at the grocery store and they're not coming with you, like, okay, little Johnny, bye-bye, and you walk away, that little Johnny might believe that you were really going to leave him in the store by himself and he might start to become afraid that you could leave. He might start to have these inner issues and dependency issues. And some people say that's a far cry, but hey, when you're a kid, you're just sucking up the theta brainwaves. So you're just sucking in meaning. And then you may give it a meaning that I hope this person doesn't leave. This is why people say, I don't say that, well, this is something that they generally will acknowledge in psychology. Some people that have issues where their dad left, abandonment issues, they might find that they then have abandonment issues with their significant other. That is because of a certain pattern, a certain level of meaning, and that meaning will be on autopilot until we become aware of it. So for example, I gave some things a certain meaning. What happened? I had an abusive ex-stepmom. Many of you know the story. I know it sounds like a broken record 'cause I share the story all the time, but I made 1,000 YouTube videos in a row, okay? So I'm sorry, but you know, it probably sounds like there's only 5 things that have ever happened in my life. I used to work at Barney's New York. I had ADHD. And then what else? And then, oh yeah, the abusive stepmom. And there's probably like, it sounds like there's 5 things that have always ever happened to me, but just expressing myself, it's stuff that people can relate to. If they see that I've gotten to a certain place where I do what I love and I'm in a high vibe and I've been through all of this stuff, it's more relatable than seeing someone like a guru on the mountain. I want to be like you, but I went through all this bad stuff. But now you have something to look at. It's someone else that has done it before. I've experienced it. I know what it's like and there's a brighter future on the other side. Not even a brighter future, there's a brighter present moment that you can tap into. Here's the key, here's what I'm gonna be sharing with you. What happened in a point in your past, you gave certain things a meaning. For me, I had an abusive ex-stepmom between the ages of 7 to 15 years old. My dad divorced her when I was 15 years old and then I thought I wasn't worthy, thought I wasn't worthy. I also thought and believed that women in my life were always trying to control me. So even after my ex-stepmom, my first girlfriend, one of my first girlfriends was completely controlling and jealous. So always had to know where I was, always had to know what I was doing, very annoying. And I had to deal with that for, I dealt, I didn't have to, I chose to deal with that for 4 years, probably 'cause I was used to it. And then I eventually had a manager that was almost the same exact personality type as my ex-stepmom. I believed I was worthy of having some crazy stepmom in my life like that. So what happened? Someone treated me bad, I believed I was unworthy. Now, is it true that I was unworthy? No. What happened is something happened that was a neutral idea. Many people may agree with me and say, yes, your ex-stepmom threw, like she threw a sippy cup at me once and gave me a black eye. I'm not saying it to be negative, I'm just saying that that's what happened. Now, the story that I tell myself what happened is she was very angry, I wasn't worthy, she threw it at me. There's a big story there that carries with it emotional baggage. She shouldn't have done this. She didn't, shouldn't have done this. But what happened was a neutral idea. You see, even though many people in reality would agree that that was a bad thing, it is still a neutral idea that I would have to agree to in order for it to be a negative thing for me. You see, because if it was under a different context, say on accident, the thing fell and hit, which I mean, it's not what happened, but do you see what I mean? Like if I were to interpret it differently, I would get a different result. If I believed that, like, somehow it just magically flew and hit me, I wouldn't give it a negative meaning that I wasn't worthy because I would see it as an accident. Wasn't the case, I'll tell you that. I don't know, maybe it's a story I told myself, but it's really what happened. And then for Halloween, what I had to pretend was I had to pretend that I was a pirate and the makeup wouldn't come off because it was embarrassing to explain to everyone that I had a black eye from someone throwing something at me. So that's the meaning I was giving it though, but that's what happened. Then there's the story that you tell yourself about what happened. Now, if you can start to see more of what happened, you begin to take away the emotional charge. All emotional charge comes from the story that we tell ourselves about what happened. You had an abusive boyfriend or girlfriend. That's true. What happened? They may have treated you bad. They may have done something to you, but the story that you tell yourself about you being worthy of it, you deserved it, you're guilty, you should have, you shouldn't have, you should have seen the signs, that's a story. But if you could, this is the key. The key is reframing and doubting the story itself. Reframing it, I'd say, is extraordinarily powerful. Now, believe in yourself. Believe in yourself. Look at this belief. Lie. Belief. Lie. Lie. Beliefs are lies because any belief you have, you will eventually get rid of. And any belief you have, which is also a story that you tell yourself, is most likely something that is limiting to you. The truth is you're an eternal spiritual being living a temporary human experience. We forget that when we're born and then we go through the level of ego, the little self. Believe in yourself. The little s, believe in your little ego. But the key is to move beyond belief and into being, being, being, be present to the moment, be fresh in the moment, see things. When you're being in the present moment, the other thing you're able to do is you're able to tap more into the present moment, which is more of what is happening, just being, not necessarily labeling, but just being. Now here's the thing, the story that you tell yourself of what happened is where all the pain comes from. Now here's what I did. I went through a spiritual awakening in 2012. I learned how to observe my thoughts. I learned how to observe and look at the painful past that I had. And what I was able to find was that the painful past I had led to my spiritual awakening. I was able to give it a new meaning. That pain led me to going through it within myself, realizing all of these things. And then the epiphany is I go through a spiritual awakening, changes my whole entire life. All of this then had a deeper meaning. And many people that go through spiritual awakening have been through very painful things. Now, the key to all limiting beliefs, the problem is you've been believing yourself for a long period of time. You've been believing you're not worthy. You've been believing the story you tell yourself. You've been believing it's hard to take action. You've been believing that you're not abundant. What I'm saying is doubt those limiting beliefs. Don't believe more. Don't believe you're worth a million, you can make a million dollars this year, no. Just let go of the belief that says that there's a certain finite amount you can make. Let go of the belief that says you're not worthy. Don't believe I am worthy, then it feels fake. Doubt the belief that says you're not worthy and then you will naturally be worthy. You see, the key is to reframe and doubt the current stories and the current meanings you give things. Meaning is everything. You change the meaning, you change your life. Where a lot of people get tripped up as well is they give certain things a meaning and they blame other people. I could say my ex-stepmom, I had negative emotion about for years, but then I realized she's just living out a pattern that she was taught from her dad. Doesn't make it right, but it does make me understand more. And because I was then able to see it for what it is, I was then able to transform it. I was then able to forgive her. I didn't forgive her because she deserved it. I forgave her because I deserved it. I forgave her because I saw that she was just unconsciously playing out a pattern. Not in a judgmental way, like, you are so low vibrational. More so that she's just on her own path. Just unconditional love. But me understanding that by having that perspective, I then was letting go out of it of my— that's what people don't realize. If you are mad at somebody for something they did to you, you project negative energy towards them. That negative energy is still in your energetic field that goes beyond, like, around your body. So it's like this jealousy, this anger about someone. You're like, yeah, you're gonna get it one day, you're gonna get it one day. You walk around with that in your energy field until you clear it. That's why one of the most powerful things you could do is to do Ho'oponopono for 21 days. Ho'oponopono says, I'm sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you. It's forgiving yourself for being in that situation, forgiving yourself for seeing that person of less than divine, understand they're just playing out an unconscious role. And when you do this, you clear out your energy field and you raise to a much higher frequency. Something else I have is the Ho'oponopono meditation. It'll be in the top of the description box below. Listen to it while you're driving, listen to it while you're doing things around your house, listen to it for 21 days. It will transform your life and it will transform your energy field. Read the comments to see what is possible there. It came out like a month or two ago and the feedback from it's been phenomenal. So I'll link that in the top of the description box below. Now here's something else I want to talk about. We have 3 different archetypes. Many of us will, identify with, and it's like similar to a movie, makes it easy to understand. We have the victim, the hero, and the villain. Now these three different archetypes will come depending on the story that we tell ourselves. If we tell ourselves a story that something happened to us, we are then a victim. If we told ourselves a story that something happened to us, but then we gave it a positive meaning, and then maybe we're like the oldest brother or sister and we had to protect our younger siblings, maybe then we became a hero. I know my dad, for example, he at one point saw the movie Backdraft back in the '90s. He said he looked over to my mom. My mom told me the story. He looked over at my mom and says, I'm going to do that one day because he watched the movie Backdraft, which is about an arson investigator who's like finding out some crime or something. So my dad became a firefighter and then he became an arson investigator years later. And to this day, he's still an arson investigator. So he saw that hero archetype and just so chose in a moment, this is who I am. This is my level of identity. And he very much has that hero archetype. I believe I have that hero archetype, which isn't always the best positive thing because if you're a hero, it means there's dragons to slay. It means everyone needs to be fixed. I am somebody that's trying to fix everything in life. And I've had to learn to let go. If my family member's not doing well, here's some things I can help you fix. Here's some money, here's some this. And I'm learning to not, that's not always the case because a lot of times that can actually enable people. But nonetheless, what I'm learning is the hero, it's more positive than the victim and the villain, but still it's not necessarily the most positive thing. Now, my ex-stepmom in my life would definitely be considered a villain, and even in her own life, she's taken away a lot of people's power. At least that's the perspective. It's a story I tell myself, but you'll see that she acts like that towards a lot of people in her life, and she has that archetype. She may identify with it. In order for me to survive, the villain a lot of times thinks that they justify it, they rationalize it. So the key is knowing which of these archetypes do you identify with and can you get rid of the stories about why this is who you are. You may believe you're a victim, but you're only a victim if you think things happen to you. If you realize that things happen for you, you then change from a victim to somebody that goes beyond the victim. Doesn't mean you need to go to a hero or a villain to a hero. It can be, but what I'm saying is just let go of it. Let go of the meanings. Let go of these things. And reframe it and understand that you're an eternal spiritual being living a temporary human experience. Now, how do you change your story? Reframing and doubting the story you've been telling yourself, the beliefs you've been telling, the B lies, the lies you've been telling yourself. Even if you believe I can make $100,000 a year, remember that's a limitation because one day you will let that go and you will realize you can make $200,000 a year And then one day that will be a limitation. The other is you can make more. You see, maybe one day I'm like, we're not spiritual beings. We're just consciousness. We're just consciousness. We go beyond even spiritual beings. You see, these are all different points of view, different perspectives. The one truth in life that everyone will experience is that all truths are true, which is a paradox because they're also not true at the same time. All truths are true. Whatever you buy into is reflected back to you. You buy into a BS story that doesn't serve you, then guess what? That will be reflected back to you. But then you can doubt it, and when you doubt it, you free yourself from it. What I'm saying is go beyond belief and go into being. Be present to the moment. Become free. You are an eternal spiritual being, and when you doubt these things, you can then be present to the moment. You can have fun. You can enjoy life. This is meant to be a very fluid, fun experience if you just allow it to be. If you just have a little bit more fun, let go of the seriousness of it, you'll find that you start to have more fun in reality. So remember, there's two perspectives: what happened, the story you tell yourself about what happened. The more that you change the story you tell yourself, or just completely let it go, or just completely doubt the meanings you gave things in the past, is the more you'll change your vibration. If you listen to the Ho'oponopono meditation for 21 days, I think it'll absolutely transform your life. And listen to it, it'll be top of the description box below. Also, if you like this video, can you smash that like button? Hit the like button for me. Can you just do that? Cause it'll tell me, hey, make more videos like this. You have to only push the notification bell to see the daily vids, even though you subscribe to my channel. We've got a lot more good stuff coming, a lot more things you've been told about beliefs, about chasing success and money. I'm going to show you that there's a more powerful way. It's raising your level of consciousness and we have a lot more good stuff coming. So with that being said, I hope you enjoy this video.
