Both business and politics now chase what people will pay or vote for rather than stick to principles or costs. Airlines price at €499 instead of €800 because that's what sells; campaigns drop bold ideas for bland, market-tested messages to avoid backlash.
Hello, my friends. I had made a longer version of this video and I deleted it because I thought it wouldn't be understood. There were a lot of examples and all that. I'm making a simplified version. So, you know the old airlines, some of which have disappeared today, like TWA or Panama or others, or even cisir. Think about it in a classic economic system. Why do I say classic? Because a grocer who ran a shop 1000 years ago thought exactly the same way. And it's the way that was naturally adopted by all merchants or people who did business for the last 100,000 years, until fairly recently when it changed. We live in a time of great upheaval. So an airline that wanted to sell a seat between Paris and New York, for example, in 1981, thought about it in the following way. So what is our cost price? How much does this seat cost us? So we take a sheet of paper and write everything down. Fuel prices, plane fares, staff, insurance, airport taxes, everything. We write down, write down, write down everything, practically everything. Even the plastic fork that we give to the passenger, we put it in there. Let's imagine that the cost price is €600. Okay, how much do we want to earn on this seat to make it worth the inconvenience? Let's imagine that we want to earn €200 per seat. So what price are we going to show the consumer? Well, it will be €800. Naturally. Cost price plus profit equals the sale price. It's simple, everyone can understand. Okay. Then comes a phase of deregulation on the market which allows new companies to arrive, called low cost companies. These companies very quickly took so much market share that they caused the big companies to sink. And the remaining big companies had to change their way of thinking. In order to survive and not disappear, they had to start thinking differently and think sustainably. So how do low cost companies think? I want to sell a seat between Paris and New York. So I'm not going to say what my cost price is. No, I'll start differently. I'll start with the market. I'm going to say, how much is the average consumer willing to value this seat? How much do they want to pay? How much can they pay for this seat? I'm going to immediately exclude from my list the people who are at the highest end of the wealth scale who would be willing to pay 25 million euros or €300 per seat. They exist, of course, but you won't fill a plane with that. So we're going to exclude them from this calculation. We're Also going to exclude people who are on the other end of the spectrum. Either they don't travel, they don't even have a passport, they don't care at all. Okay? If you even sell the seat for one euro, he won't come anyway. It's not his thing. We're going to exclude them too. Who do we have left? We have people who represent the average traveler, but they already have to travel. Okay? At that point we ask ourselves, how much are they willing to pay? Let's imagine that this values the seat. Then a market study values this seat at €500. So here's your selling price. You'll put your selling price on the form at €499. There you go. From there you have to figure out how much, your cost price. So the plane's rental, the staff's salaries and everything, everything has to fit into this €500. And then if there's anything left, if there's €22, 25, 30 left, it doesn't matter. That's your profit, you see? That's how it is. Then of course, they're developed. Then you can earn money by selling them things on board, by charging for printing an access card, by charging for a payment and everything. But the figure that the passenger should see is €499, because that's what they're ready to pay. Okay? Do you understand that? It's simple, but it corresponds to a completely reverse way of thinking compared to the traditional way of thinking today. And I'm sorry that what I'm going to say may seem cynical, but it's not cynical, it's extremely realistic. When you know that humans are complicated, right? If you look at a 10,000 year old human, you ask them what they need. What will they tell you? Maybe I need a bigger club to stun an animal, or I need to light a fire, or I need an animal skin to close the entrance to my cave. He had extremely simple needs today. People need an iPhone, people need a Netflix subscription. People need stuff, you know, People need very complicated stuff. And the problem is that when we complicate things, we create levels of virtualization between us and reality between us and simple things. So that, well, well, we become, as they say, disconnected from reality. There you have it. And when we are disconnected from reality and when we hear a speech that is a bit realistic, we perceive it as cynical. So that's normal. But there is no cynicism behind what I'm saying, okay? A political party that thinks in a traditional way today will think like that, okay? There are problems in society and I have ideas to solve them. I think that some ideas are good and they can be really good. Okay? Some ideas are good. So I'm going to write down my ideas here, I'm going to present them and I'm going to go to the electorate and say, guys, vote for me. Here are my ideas, okay? If you do that today, you'll become like Pan Am or TWA or Subzer. That means companies that no longer exist, companies that were. That didn't survive the ages to get to where they are today, okay? Because they thought in a traditional way. Today the approach that works is the Macron style approach. It's the Macronian approach. We can think what we want about Macron, but compared to the electoralist approach, he was purely in the market. He used exactly an electoral oriented method. That is to say, I erase everything, I have no ideas. I analyze the readership. So who do I remove? People who don't vote because they're too disgusted with politics, or who don't know who to vote for or who doesn't care or whatever. I remove those people who I don't even consider them. I don't care what they think, whether they think negatively about me or positively. That's the least of my worries. No matter what, we remove them. Bang. You remove them. You don't even talk to them. You don't care. Okay? The others, the extremes. The extremes are like the passenger who is ready to pay €25,000 for a ticket from Paris to New York. They exist. But do you fill out a notice with that? No. Can you win an election with the extremes? No. No, you can't. It's not possible. So are they interesting? No. Bang. It doesn't matter. We don't give a damn about them at all. We don't give a damn about what they think. They can go up to the ceiling a bit. They can say whatever they want to say. They only represent a very small fraction of the electorate. What's left? What's left is the average electorate who will actually get out there and vote. And in fact, that represents a very small fraction of the population and that represents a small fraction of the entire potential electorate, okay? Nowadays with abstentionism and all that, if it turns out that core Target represents maybe 20% of the actual electorate, that's who we need to talk to, because they're going to get up and go vote. At that point, we're going to go a little further. We're not going to push ideas in their faces. We're going to see what they want to hear. So I'm taking my own ideas. I'm not sharing them. I take my ideas and write them down. Now, every idea I have that could trigger opposition somewhere. For example, in France, if you have an idea, no matter how interesting it may be, but it would trigger the anger of journalists, comedians, singers, intellectuals, athletes, etc. And you know very well that the French language is subject to this. You know very well that this particular target audience is subject to this. So you throw that idea away. Because if you say it, if it goes beyond the boundaries, if it comes out of your mouth, okay, you will have said what you thought, okay? You think, you say it. That's great. Okay, well done. On the other hand, that's it. You won't get anywhere. So any idea that could trigger something, you remove it, you delete it, you delete it, you delete it. You end up with very average ideas that don't necessarily correspond to what you would have wanted, but that correspond to what the electorate is ready to vote for, okay? Especially since if you're in a competition with people who vote well, who vote, who propose ideas that are perhaps a little more courageous, but that may sound extreme at that time, it's clear that they're going to speak frankly to the electorate, but they're not going to speak to the majority of the electorate, okay? And at that point you have the Macron system, for example. That's exactly how his system works. It's a system that is driven by the electorate. And probably this guy will last five more years, and then a guy like him will come along again and again and again. That's it. That's the thing. That's it. That's it. I invite you to give up all the ideas that don't have any chance of being approved by the electorate. It's very simple. You take this average voter, like those who voted for Macron, who really represent the, you know, in the, in the, in the video editing rooms, there are speakers, uh, audio. Last time I saw it, it was made by Sony. But there are many other brands and in fact, they are neither too good nor too bad. They correspond to an average sound. Because you are editing the video and you are going to push it into millions of televisions, into millions of systems. Some are very high end, some are very low end. So you want to have something average as a return. That way you know how average it will be for you, okay? Because if you take something too good or too bad, you won't realize the average quality of the blood. That's kind of the thing. That's it. As simple as that. There's no good or bad. And believe me, it's terrible. Right? It's terrible because it means that from now on we can't really campaign on real ideas, on real principles anymore. Anyway. Since when do people have principles? Even people? The average guy, the average techno guy basically has zero principles. Zero principles to begin with, okay? So if you come and talk to him during an election campaign in the name of principal, it's over. It won't resonate with him at all. We live in a consumer society. People consume whatever they want to consume. And when they vote, it's a way for them to consume, that's all. So it has to be bling bling, it has to be sugar coated, it has to be marketing, that's all. It doesn't stand a chance otherwise it's over. And I'm really sorry about this, but before people come with great ideas, they'll be condemned to leave with their great ideas. That's all. They come and present them. That's good. We heard. That's perfect. Okay, go home now. That's all. Okay, okay, I'll stop there. The previous video was longer. It had examples, but some of those examples could have been misinterpreted or misunderstood or whatever. So I preferred to water it down a little bit. I prefer to water it down. I've backtracked a little bit from the claim I made in the previous video. That's it, my friends, that's all. It was just an opinion. As I told you, starting this coming Wednesday the 14th, I'm on vacation for a certain period of time, I don't know how long. I'm trying to record some videos that I'll schedule to play automatically, but for now I don't have any. Well, I have one. I have a video that's scheduled to play on Wednesday at noon. It's already uploaded to YouTube, but it's not visible. It will automatically go public on Wednesday at noon or so. A five minute video that explains exactly the project that I'm working on and why this project is happening and why I'm on vacation and everything. It's something that started last year and that's it. It'll explain a lot of things to you. Anyway, that's it. I think I'll leave you for now. I'm going to go home and that's it.
