Pourquoi 90% des startups échouent ? Fais partie du 10% !

Why 90% of startups fail and how to join the 10% that don't. Technical founders often build solutions nobody needs because they never validated the problem first. Start from a real problem, measure demand, and avoid free-only business models.
My friends, good morning. It's morning and I wanted to share these thoughts with you. In fact, if we look at the statistics, for example, at PwC, if we look at Minci, Harvard Business School and so on, we will learn that most of the startups that are created will not go very far. We have figures that sometimes show up to 90% of good startups will not succeed and will fail. So I'm here for you today. This is not to tell you. Well, listen, if you launch a startup, it will fail. I would like to think about how to be part of the 10% because we must not kid ourselves. We must not start out with the idea of Gold Trip, as the rappers say. We must not tell ourselves, well, I'm better, I'm going to go for it and I'm going to succeed where the other bastards are. No, we have to be realistic. We are tackling a field where 90% of people fail. So why? And why are they already failing? Today I will give you perhaps one or two areas for reflection. No more. I will leave the others for another time. But first of all, when I talk to entrepreneurs, whether they are entrepreneurs who sometimes launch startups as a group, which means you have startups sometimes with four people, investors and everything, or they launch themselves on their own, with their own means, without investment or contribution, and so on, well, I have noticed a pattern, and this pattern is something that you absolutely have to learn to avoid. So let me tell you, many people who want to launch projects of this kind are technicians with a technical background. They are not necessarily visionaries, even if they have ideas. Of course, just having an idea does not make you a visionary. Yet you can become a visionary. It is something that develops. But just having an idea in itself like that, taken in isolation, doesn't make you a visionary person. So that's the problem. The problem is that they often say to themselves, look, I'm good, I'm talking nonsense, I'm not good at tech in this or that technology, and so on, and I start thinking about a solution. So I work on it. So if I take three servers, I connect them in this way, I put this software on them, I connect to a database I know, I put a layer of Amazon AWS on them, I put a layer of Azure on them, I bring a tube through Cloudflare and I create a tunnel and I pass it there, then it will arrive on this machine and I put an app and I put an authentication system and I put it, and I put it and I put it. So they think about a Solution, then the problem is that they fall in love with their solution. When, well, of course, they're very happy, they work on it, it becomes their baby. And then, well, after a while, After a while they believe it. After a while they wake up and when they look at the market, they realize that there is no demand. That means they have a solution. On the one hand, that is magnificent, that is very beautiful, technically speaking, but there is no demand. I was talking to someone the other day. He created a solution. It was still B2C. You know, it's B2C. It's business to consumer, so towards people who like you. And in fact, he had several thousand subscribers. Then there was a free registration, a paid registration. So what he wanted was to allow free registration so that after a while some of the free ones would switch to paid ones. I never believed in this mechanism because unfortunately, people who are looking for things for free, who are going to sign up for free, are not people who are going to pay you one day. I think we need to stop this. Maybe we need to break this myth right away and move towards free stuff. No free stuff. Well, it happens. It saturates your systems. It only causes you problems, it will amuse you, sometimes your services, etc. And then it is useful, for it will just tire you out, exhaust you, cost you money, but it will not turn into a paying customer. You look, I don't know, you don't have a restaurant where people come to eat for free, hoping that one day they will come to pay. You don't have an airline where you say, well, the ticket with this is free. You get on and we hope that one day you will pay. That doesn't exist. You see what I mean? So you have to think about this model. In any case, what he achieved was that he had a few thousand free subscribers. Of those few thousand, the. There was one who paid, you know, one who paid €25 or something like that, and then canceled his subscription after 10 days. Okay, so you can see that there is a problem. And I'll tell you what the problem is. The problem is that when you're a technician, you're creating a solution that's in search of a problem. You heard me right. That means you're going to create a solution because it's beautiful, because you like it, because you're proficient. You're proficient in something. I've been working in a certain field for 10 years. I'm really good at it, and I'm a master. Can I create something? I'm going to create it ok, once I've done that, I say, okay, who needs it now? Well, find me someone who needs it. And you're going to start looking for people who need it. And there you go. And from there, good luck. Okay, I want to tell you something before we continue, partner of this channel, which I'll put the link in the description of the video in the pinned comment. They're based in France. Contact them only if you're in France. They can't help you if you're outside of France. It's an organization that's based in France, as I was saying, and that can help you find a job. They can help you either because you've lost your job, can support you until you find another one, or if you're in a job, you feel stuck and you want to bounce back somewhere else, they can also support you in that case. In particular, if you're rusty, if, for example, you've spent 10 or 15 years in a job and you don't even know where to start, you, you don't know how to market it, you don't have an up to date cv, you haven't been interviewing for a while, they can help you get back into the equation. Okay? And in some cases their support is fully covered by France Travail. So I'll continue. I was saying we have a solution in search of a problem. So very often the problem doesn't exist. That means yes to this great solution. And in fact it could be useful if you like. It could be used like to be exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, this solution. Because when you see voices in these museums, you see things, devices. Someone took tubes, soldered them together, put in a battery, cables, things, lights. And in fact it's a thing, you could call it a big teapot that works, but serves absolutely no purpose. It's on display at the Armoda Museum. So many solutions have been considered by entrepreneurs and sometimes even made at great cost, made at great expense, with a lot of time and all that. And in the end it only deserves one thing to go to the Armoda Museum. So it's really important. So what I'm saying may seem basic, it may seem simple, but most people, the technicians I talk to, don't think from a problem perspective, they but think from a solution perspective. So what needs to be done? The realistic way, let's say to understand this problem is to solve the entrepreneurship equation. What's the problem? What's the problem? We need to start with a problem, not a solution. What's the problem? How many People have this problem. Are there players on the market who have already solved it? Because sometimes, yes, there is a problem that exists, but it has already been largely solved by a multinational at a ridiculous price and all that. And well, you come up with your solution. It is perhaps 10 times more expensive and it will be useless. You see, you always have to think from a problem point of view. Now I would like to give you perhaps the second element that often causes startups to fail. Well, unfortunately, and I will tell you this right away, unfortunately, many are designed to fail. This means that many startups, and I have seen some, I have seen creators, many startups are only there to gobble up the money of VCs, VC, venture capitalists, that is to say, the people who invest. And so you have people who create startups sometimes with a value proposition that is not at all realistic, that is not at all sustainable, that makes absolutely no sense when you look at it. It has no place in the market, it has no coherence, nor anything at all. But it is nice to read, it is nice to see. There are websites, there is glitz, uh, I have seen startups, uh, do openings or launch products by renting, uh, by renting a state of the art in a casino in Las Vegas, by dramatizing celebrities, singers, janglers, doing dice and setting off fireworks. In fact, all of that, all of that was just to create money, when in reality there was no project behind it and the goal was just to wear down patience, right? Continue for two years, three years, four years, always asking for more money, more, more money, more money, taking bonuses, taking stock options. And then the day it fails, well, it fails, right? Then they'll go do it somewhere else. Okay, so there's that. And unfortunately it distorts the figures, right? The paths to savings are often impenetrable, my friends. But in any case, what I would like you to remember from this video is that if you are a technician, it is very important to have a vision, a realistic vision of the market and not to fall in love with your solutions. Do not start by developing a solution. If you think of a solution, stop. I'll stop you right there. Stop spending money, stop spending time. Consider it as if you have it. That means you want to build a solution. You say, yeah, it will take me six months. Wait for me, I'll tell you right away. The six months that's now in six minutes, what you're doing, you're considering as if you have the solution. There you go, great solution there. And what you're doing is Going to study the market, going to see if there's anyone who needs it, going to analyze the pring, going to analyze the competitive scope, going to see who's selling. This kind of thing, okay? It's much more important than spending six months tinkering, wiring all that up and then realizing that and, and why. I don't want people to fail at this kind of thing because the more we fail, the more we're going to keep the bitter taste of failure afterwards. And then later on we can become, we can become cynical about it and we might not even try because we've wasted so many cartridges. We, we've tried, tried, tried, but in reality we've tried badly. I talk to a lot of people who have tried many times and I don't want it to stop. I just wanted to start over on a better footing. I just want them to start off on a different footing than the ones that caused their previous failures. Because yes, we can try, try. But if we repeat the same mistakes, well, each time we'll end up failing. And then at some point we'll say to ourselves, no, that's not for me anyway, we start to freak out a little bit about it. That's why it's very important to analyze the failures of others, to analyze our own failures. And maybe I'll end on something. I'm telling you, I prefer, I prefer a well digested failure. I can tell you that a well digested failure can teach us a lot. If we digest it well, if we demonstrate it, we understand what happened. Whereas a success by chance, maybe there have been successes by chance means people they did something, it succeeded, they don't even know how or why. When you succeed by chance, it's good. I wish you success by chance. But the risk when you succeed by chance is that you can also fail by chance. It means success. Okay, there you go. It works great. But we don't know why we succeeded. We did the right things, but we don't know why. And in fact, the problem is that we can fail by chance one day. It means because we don't know the mechanisms and well, we continue to act and then one day we act wrongly and then everything falls apart and we don't understand and we have things, we have a project that arrives, that takes off, that goes stratospheric, that then comes back vertically to the ground, that crashes and we don't understand why it took off or why it crashed. Okay, so that's why I'm telling you a well digested failure makes you much stronger, provided you don't close your eyes, provided you don't get carried away by ego, provided you don't get carried away by resentment. It's just being cold, icy and taking things apart. What happened and when you succeed by chance, what you have to do is take things apart. It's very important. It becomes urgent to dissect everything to avoid understanding what happened and to avoid getting hit hard. There you have it. In any case, thank you my friends for watching this video so far. Regarding consulting you look at the calendar, it's relatively empty because I've been extremely busy lately, so it's relatively empty. I've left very few slots that have been taken. So that's why I don't talk to you in the videos and tell you to go and book slots, because there aren't any. But what I hope for, I hope next month, October, I hope things will be a little bit better right in my calendar and I can put more of this in. But in any case, for now I know that it is empty and I will do my best to put more in the in about a month. Thank you anyway for watching this video so far. Remember our partner Koos. The link is in the pinned comment and we will see you in the next video. See you soon.
