A March 2025 French-language YouTube advice video in which a single speaker explains three practical signs that you may be about to be fired: (1) exclusion from meetings and communications, (2) loss or restriction of access to company portals and software, and (3) a shrinking workload/feeling of uselessness. The speaker draws on personal experience, emphasizes that companies prioritize their own interests and often conceal layoffs for legal/tactical reasons, and strongly advises viewers to prioritize and defend their personal interests (often by leaving early if they "smell vinyl"). The video closes with an invitation to one-on-one consulting.
Good evening, my friends. How do you know that you're going to get fired from a company? How do you know that there's a potential layoff plan in the works, and then maybe you won't have a job in the relatively short term? First, I'd like to tell you something so that no one can boast. You should know that in a career that sometimes spans several decades until retirement, you'll get fired a certain number of times it's going to happen to you. It's not just a question of whether it's going to happen to you, it's a question of when it's going to happen to you. So unfortunately, it's something that happens to people up to four times. It depends on whether they're lucky or not. Personally, I've found myself in layoff plans. What can I say? It's something that hurts at the time. You feel betrayed, you feel humiliated, you feel like you've been lied to, that you've been mistreated and all that. But, I mean, you just have to know how to bounce back and move on. So how do you know in a company that you're about to be fired? Well, the first principle is that the company never wants to tell you beforehand. Why? Because they're preparing a legal file, for example. So they don't want to tell you until the file is ready, until the termination letter, until your contract is reviewed by the legal department, and all that. So they can't tell you. They won't tell you. Secondly, they're thinking about their own interests, not yours. Why? Because. What does honesty mean if I'm honest with people? Honesty means that if these people who have children, dependents and all that, may soon not have a job, the best thing to do ethically is to tell them as soon as possible. That way, if they can ever make their own arrangements, look for work, identify, I don't know, do something while they can. Let's say on the contrary. But the company is anything but ethical, so they're going to think about their own interests. Let's say you're finishing a project and what you want is to fire in six weeks, when the project is finished. We're not going to tell you right away because if we tell you now, what would you potentially do? You'll potentially start rushing around looking for work, and maybe in 10 days, 15 days, who knows, you'll slam the door and leave. They don't want that. They want to fire you when they're done. They want to fire you according to their schedule, according to Their timetable when it suits them, they don't want you to leave when it suits you. So then it becomes a war situation and they are extremely, extremely dishonest, as we've seen in some videos. So I'll tell you an example that happened to me and some colleagues. We work in a department. What made us feel, what made me feel like we were going to get fired. So first of all, I started to notice by chance, by accident that there were meetings, important meetings to which we weren't invited. How did I find out? I found out through someone's indiscretion. And I found out especially, and I legally, generally don't count on someone's indiscretion because in these situations, you know, people aren't going to come and grab you in a corner and say, listen, they're not going to do that. In general, don't count on it. Generally I was able to find out because people tend to share emails, they tend to circulate them, to put a lot of messages in BCC or cc, rather they tend to put a bunch of names in bcc. And so I'll end up with emails and I'll look and I'll see that there's activity, there are meetings, there are things that were my responsibility. I wasn't invited. So when they start excluding you from day to day business, it's because they're getting ready to fire you and they're in the process of excluding you. Because these projects, there's no point in informing you, there's no point in keeping you in the loop, there's no point at all. The project is over for you. When it ends, you won't be with the company. So that's a very strong example. The other example is that I noticed that I no longer had access to certain company portals, certain software programs. However, they were essential for me to do my job. When I tried to access them, I'd go in, I'd try to log in. It was impossible. I was rejected. Yes, but what's going on? I asked my colleagues and they said, oh yeah, it doesn't work for me either. Okay. So they were starting to deprive us of a certain amount of access. So when you're deprived of essential access to do your job, what we're preparing for next is most certainly getting rid of you. I myself brought this up in a meeting. I said, yeah, by the way, you know, I'm always a loudmouth. I brought it up, I said, what's going on and why am I telling you this? Because you can See how capable they are of lying. So I told them, me and my colleagues, I made a list. I have such and such a system. We can't access it. We have a problem. What did the guy tell me? He was my line manager. What did he tell me? Oh yeah, he pretended to take notes. Yes, yes, yes, that's true. I knew, I knew that we have a license problem here. We bought a batch of 100 competing licenses. The problem is that the company has grown in size in recent years. So this batch of licenses is not enough. And then there are people who can't log into all that. So I spoke to the department that makes the purchases. They are on it. They have to renew the licenses and all that. You see the thing they are capable of lying while looking you in the face with lead in front of other people. They have absolutely no limits, you see? So that's why I insist. I insist. When you work in a company, you have to have the mindset, you have to have the mentality to defend your own interests. In the event of a conflict between your personal interest and the interests of the company, you defend your personal interest. So you're going to tell me? Yeah, yes, that's true. It's obvious. I listen to it at your place. No, no, no, no, no, no. Let's start over. Lets really start over. You have to have this idea rooted in your head without the slightest mental reservation, without the slightest ambiguity, without the slightest hesitation, without the slightest limitation in your head, without the slightest break, the slightest mental block, moral, ethical or otherwise. It has to be clear in your head. Because it's like if you want to see those western movies where you see these guys who are there, they're going to draw their guns and shoot the opponent. You imagine that it's decided in a hundredth of a second between one and the other, the one who's going to live and the one who's going to go to Krukma, if one of them hesitates thinking am I going to shoot the other one or is so and so dead? So it has to be clear in your head. And here the problem I have with these, I reopened the consulting sessions. You can find them in the video description and in the pinned comment. We do one on one consulting and there are some very interesting questions that come up. And what I sometimes notice is that there are people who have understood things but have not integrated them mentally, have not integrated them into their soul. It must be very deeply rooted and integrated. That way you won't hesitate. The day there is a Conflict between your personal interest and that of the company. I was saying the third marker, which is a marker that doesn't work either, and that this is perhaps the corollary of the other two, it may not be an independent marker, is the fact that I noticed that I had less and less to do. It means I was starting to feel useless. When I talked to my other colleagues, you had the same feeling that nothing was happening, that we were starting to have more and more downtime. And anyway, even the things we were involved in, we couldn't do anything because access didn't work, the data wasn't available, data was being withheld about us and all that. And so you start to feel useless. And when you see this conjunction, it means you're going to get fired. Well, there are two things. You have two options. You don't care. You wait until you get fired, you say, okay, I'll take a check. Okay, you raise it, you let go, and then you wait. Or the other option, which is perhaps what I recommend, personally, I don't advise people to sacrifice their lives, their careers, all that while waiting for a compensation check that will or will not come. Generally, if I smell vinyl, I tend to leave. I tend to take the lead and leave. Why? You have to leave before everyone else. And I usually leave before everyone else. Well, sometimes I've stayed until the collapse. Either until the company collapses or until the social crisis. But generally what I do is I try to leave as soon as I smell vinyl. Why? Simply so that I don't end up in competition with my colleagues. Because especially when you're in a very specialized profession, these aren't professions for which you're going to find 2,000 or 2,000 offers on the market. You'll find maybe 12 open positions, maybe even more. I'm being generous. But three out of those 12 are really interesting. The others are advertisements that have been open for months. These are fake ads. They don't want to recruit, or they pay badly, or they're on the other side of the world, or they have weird jobs in these companies and so on. So in reality, in terms of really valid positions, there are three, no more than three, that could potentially recruit you. And even then, it's not because there are three. You're going to get three offers, right? You might end up getting three interviews and no one will make you an offer. But assuming that out of the three, you have a chance, maybe one of them will tell you, we're ready to recruit. Let's imagine that you have 30 colleagues and you get Fired. Where do you think your colleagues are going to go? Well, your colleagues are going to target the same people. They're going to start looking for the same companies. And so what's going to happen to these same companies? They're going to suddenly be flooded with resumes. And do you know what they'll know? They'll know why? Because they'll say, oh, yeah, you're from your company. Oh, yeah, they recently did a layoff. Yeah, yeah, we did an interview. Uh, not even one. We did two interviews yesterday. People, huh? I think you must know them. And so we did interviews because. Yeah, it's terrible, huh? When you hear that kind of talk in an interview, it's because it's over. They can take you. They can choose you over your colleagues. They can choose you over your colleagues. But there's one thing that's for sure, and that's that they know you're desperate. And if they take you, they'll take you on the slack because they say, listen. Even. Even when they make you an offer, they're going to call you and say, listen. Yes, we analyzed your profile, your application. We found it very interesting. You left a good impression on the people you communicated with. Honestly, we would love to work with you single. Quote, quote, you see, when he serves you, when he strokes you in the direction of your hair, you know he's going to give you bad news. On the other hand, right now, we have a few restrictions. The other day, they almost froze recruitment. So it's like, we have a position. We snatched it up just like that. Like it fell off the truck. You know, uh, we're ready to take you on, but we're going to have to make an effort on the salary. Well, clearly you have no choice. And he knows. He knows that you're. He knows that you're down. So to avoid all that, what I advise you is that if you smell vinyl in your company, get out. Don't stay there. There you go. My friends, thank you for watching this video so far. And I remind you once again, if you want to talk about it face to face, you have bookings. Come on, take them while there are still some. Thank you, my friends. And we'll see in a very upcoming video.
