The 4 Enemies For Visionary Leaders

Christian Santiago (peak performance coach) presents a short YouTube coaching talk for visionary leaders, executives, entrepreneurs and investors called “The 4 Enemies For Visionary Leaders.” He identifies four obstacles that slow progress: (1) sweating over trivial details, (2) trading the important for the immediate, (3) being distracted by another vision, and (4) failing to master one’s mental, emotional and physical state. Each point is illustrated with conversational coaching examples (a long-term client and a mayor) and practical prompts (e.g., ask how your future self would respond; define 5–6 term objectives). The video closes with a CTA to meet with Greatness Institute strategists/coaches.

If you don't watch out for these four enemies, you'll never make progress on the vision that you have at the speed that you can. In fact, if you ever are seeing yourself slowing down, either your company or yourself or any of that, watch out for these four things. My name is Christian Santiago, peak performance coach for visionary leaders and entrepreneurs. And I'm really looking forward to showing you these four enemies on what you need to watch out for in order to take everything you're touching to, to the next level. Enjoy the video. I was recently having a conversation with a visionary leader, seven figure earners in the healthcare industry, and one of my clients for quite some time. We've worked together for the past two years and I got a little like annoyed or frustrated at the end of our call, mainly because I realized he was dealing with some of the enemies that oftentimes visionary leaders run into that stops them from making real progress in, in rapid amounts of time for their vision. And so if you're a business leader, if you're a leader within healthcare, or maybe you're a Fortune 500 executive, or maybe you're an investor or a fund manager or any of that, regardless of where you're at, it's most of the time these four enemies that really hinder visionaries, okay? And it stops them from operating at their peak, mentally, emotionally and physically at all times and doesn't allow them to be as productive as they could be. And so the first one is. And you're going to actually, like, it's going to be so simple. But I've got to say it, okay? It's sweating over the little crap. Okay, man. The part where I got frustrated with my client, I was like, at the end of the day, I'm going to call him, I'm going to call him Mike. You know, I'm going to call him Mike. I said, at the end of the day, Mike, this stuff is stupid. Like, this is little stuff. Why are we focusing on this little crap when at the end of the day our vision is this? Right now you're having, you're trying to negotiate, you're trying to do all this stuff and you're putting all your energy on this versus what are we actually creating? Because if you put all your focus on the little fires you have to take out, which will not in the long run have an actual effect on your vision, then what you're doing is you're telling your vision you're not as important right now. What you're basically allowing yourself to do is get so into the minutia that you're making myopic decisions, short term decisions versus, okay, what would my future self and how would he operate in this situation or how would she operate in this? And so sweating over the small crap, the stupid stuff that just doesn't matter. Let's take a bigger view. Like ask yourself. Here's a simple question I asked him. I said, okay, if the 10 year future you was in this situation now, how would he respond? He said he'd be like, this is so dumb. Why are we wasting our time on it? I said, exactly. So what decision are we making today? And all of a sudden we made a decision. Okay, so that was a big thing. Okay, second thing, which is actually born out of me having a session with the mayor of my city helped him win re election. Now he's back running for re election to. Now he's leading the city on his final term is this. I was like, are you not getting as much progress? He's like, no, Christian, like I just finished reelection four months ago. And so it's like, man, like now how do I get back into this? And I said, okay, well what you're doing is you're doing this. You are trading the important for the immediate. And so that's a huge enemy. I was like, look, Mayor, I want to ask you just this simple question, okay? What are the six objectives, five to six objectives you want to complete in your term together for the last four years that you have? What do you want to accomplish? I don't care. I know you have a lot of things you got to do right now. I don't care. We're going to take the immediate stuff and we're putting it to the side that doesn't matter right now. I literally told him, he's like, whoa, like we're having breakfast, you know, eating eggs, you know, with sausage and stuff. And I'm like, nope, we're putting this aside. What do you want to accomplish? And he told me six things, actually. Six things. And I said, okay, so by definition, anything that we're focused on that has nothing to do with those things, we've just admitted those are distractions. Anything else that really saps away our time from those things is really a distraction. That's what we're admitting here. And it was like, yes, that's we're admitting. Okay. And I had him focused back on the important, not the immediate to where I texted him a week and a half later. I said, how's your focus been? How's it been able to Be back, you know, making that shift from, you know, raising funds, re election campaign, all that to now going back to leading the city. He said, I've been back to being my laser focused self. Thank you, Christian. All right, the third thing, which is super sinister, okay, this is a visionary problem, okay? Third enemy is probably one of the biggest enemies, okay? As a visionary, you have a superpower. But guess what? You know what your problem is that you see visions really well. And so the. A third enemy to you making progress is another vision. Another vision. You know, there's a quote that I want you to remember is an unguarded strength is a double weakness. An unguarded strength is a double weakness. Your ability to see vision, your ability to see the future see big, all of that is such a strength. But if you don't guard will be a weakness. That where you're saying, we're doing this and we're going in this direction and people are like, yes, I'm excited. We're going that. But then, like, it gets a little hard here. But then you're like, okay, so we're going in this direction now. And then people are like, oh, okay, okay. And then it gets hard here. And then you're like, oh, but we're going here. And then, and then it gets hard here. And then you're like, oh, and then it goes here. Nope, nope, nope. Another vision. The greatest enemy to your current vision is actually another vision. That's where it creates division. Die means two. So you know you're in a place of division when you have two visions competing at once. When you had two visions competing at once. So I wouldn't, I would just like I coach clients. Hey, look. Nope, we're sticking on this vision. We said we're going to overcome it. Nope, that's what we're going to do. And that's all that matters here. And so we're going to stay in alignment and we're going to go in that one direction no matter what. All right? And then once we get to the other side, then we decide. But we're not going to change and give another vision because that doesn't just affect you. It really affects the people you're leading or the investors that you're that. That are there or the, the other people around you where your reputation is being built. Like, oh, Christians, this. But then now he's trying to be this. And now he's trying to be this, and now he's trying to be this. And all of a sudden people are like, I don't know what you're trying to accomplish. And that could push away potential partners in your life that you want to create. And so first thing is sweating over the small stuff, trading the important for the immediate. Another vision. And then the last thing, the last thing is not mastering your state. Not mastering your state. And what do I mean by state? I'm talking about your mental, physical and emotional state. Okay, Some people might add spiritual. That's fine, you can do that. But also your state, your mental state, your emotional state, your physical place. All right? Because if you're not operating at your best, you know what ends up happening. People aren't seeing that you're as clear or as focused or at your peak to a point that there are some people that will follow you based off title because. But the greatest level of inspiration is people are following you based off your character, not your title. They follow you based that you are consistent day in and day out. That every single day I'm optimizing myself. Because guess what? If I'm going to do this, then I've got to step into this. In this situation, when you're in a decision where you're overwhelmed, frustrated, worried, angry, you know, annoyed, any of that, the decisions you make from that place are usually not great. Which is why they say, don't rush when you make decisions or get a, you know, you know, sleep. Make sure you're well fed before you make a big decision. Well, it's because your state, your mental, emotional and physical state matters in these moments. And if you're ever going to pitch vision, you're ever going to move forward, ever going to overcome obstacles, you've got to master your state, your mental, physical and emotional state. Okay, so these are the four enemies. One sweating over small crap, little crap. Just make the decision, move forward. It's not that big a deal. Trading the important for the immediate. Focus on the important, not the immediate. Immediate is always going to come. Emergencies always be there. Okay, stop creating another vision. You don't need another vision. And then number four, optimize your state. Those are four enemies. And when you overcome these four, or you focus on these four, guess what? You'll compound in one direction that to a point that people are like, wow, you become an overnight success in like five, six years. Okay, Overnight.
