The One Framework That Elevates Your Influence

Christian Santiago, a peak performance coach, teaches the "two words and two feelings" framework: pick two words for how you want to be perceived and two feelings you want your audience to leave with, then rehearse and align your communication to those outcomes. He walks through examples like CEO investor pitches and negotiations.

In this video, I'm going to show you the one influence framework that's going to help you lead with confidence and decisiveness in the midst of uncertain times, high pressure, and it's going to allow you to communicate and operate the way you really want. And if you don't learn this framework, this one simple framework, you're not going to have the influence you really want as a leader. Hey, my name is Christian Santiago, peak performance coach for visionary leaders and entrepreneurs. And I'm going to show you the one framework super quick that I've taught a lot of my seven and eight figure clients. It's helped them really lead at the highest level, regardless of what's going on. Enjoy the video. One of my eight figure clients, who's the CEO of $40 million company, had some big, big meetings. He had big meetings with some investors. He took some outside investors to really expand his company and he needed to present a plan. But presented in such a way that they have full confidence that he's the right guy for the job or the role. Instead of getting a vote of no confidence, which some of those investors on their board when they were in CEO positions, they experienced, you know, votes of no confidence. And he said he wanted to avoid that, so how can he do that? He also had a company quarterly meeting where he had to challenge everybody to rise up in ways that, you know, he hadn't really challenged him directly before at such a level. Then the third thing was actually a company town hall with all of his employees. He has about 50 team members in his company, but all of his employees, where he also had to communicate where they needed to stretch, how they can feel inspired. But also he also had to take away some things, like for example, taking away a Friday, you know, working from home, but being really in back in the office so everyone can try. Truly, the company makes its biggest jumps because it's had to really make some big decisions. And so how can you communicate that and go into all of those meetings at your best, at your highest commute? And these are different environments, different things, different needs. All right? And each of them, he has a different role with the investors. He's kind of under them, taking their, taking their, you know, taking their input. You know, with this team, he's leading them, but has to be collaborative. And town hall, he has to show strong leadership. Okay, how can you go in three different environments and communicate effectively and influence them? And I'll tell you, how do we do it in such a way that people are inspired and they are enrolled in You. I gave him one framework, and we used that same one framework in three different ways in all three. All three positions, all three situations. He texted me and said, christian, I've literally been able to navigate all of them and. And they've gone so well. And it's all because of one framework. And it's so simple. You're gonna be like, what? That's really it? Yes. Cause sometimes the most power packed things are in the areas of simplicity. And it's what I call the two words and two feelings framework. Okay, the two words and two feelings framework. Now how does that. How do you actually activate? Okay, so now most of the time when it comes to influence, you have to decide, okay, how do I want them to perceive me? And usually when we're deciding on influence, influence is best served when it's in their world, not yours. Okay, not how do I want to come across. No, no, no. How. With the way they operate, the way they think, the way they are, how do I want them to perceive me? Okay, so what are the two words I want them to perceive me? And when you define those two words in different settings, you can then shape yourself to become that or step into that to become that. Then the second thing that you do is, okay, what are the two feelings I want them to feel at the end? Like when we're wrapped up? Like, if I'm meeting with a client. Okay, what are the two feelings I want them to feel at the end once they hit click, Done. Or what are the two feelings I want these investors to feel when they leave my presentation of where I'm taking the company after they just invested a large amount, a minority stake in our company? How do I want them to feel? Okay, this town hall, how do I want my employees as a whole to feel? But what are the two words I want to embody of how I want them to perceive me? So, for example, with my client, let's even talk with the town hall. Town hall was big. You know, he's like, okay, what are two words? I want them to perceive me as the town hall, where he literally also has to tell them, hey, we're making some changes, but we're doing the changes for growth. And our team, we've got to really step up because now we've taken outside investments. Now it's time to really step forward. Okay, so the two words for him were bold and clear. He said if I, If I want them to see me as, whoa. Like, okay, our CEO, he's bold. He's. He knows and he's very clear on where we're going and how we're going to get there. So we literally like, okay, what are the two words? What are the two words we need to define? Then what are the two feelings we want them to have? And the two feelings were motivated and committed. Okay. That at the end of this, they feel motivated or inspired of like, okay, we're going to move forward, let's go. But also committed. Committed to pay the price that every single person in that town hall is going to want to pay the price that they're going to want to really move forward no matter what it takes from the most entry level position to the executive team of we're committed to pay the price. And then what we did was, okay, now what are the communications we need to do to show that we're bold and clear, to make sure that we operate as bold and clear and that they feel motivated and committed? And so one of the things we did was we reframed everything into an opportunity. I want them to see that we're making bold moves and we know how to get there. So if we're not working at home anymore on Fridays and we're back in the office, I'm not going to frame it as a punishment. I'm going to frame it as an opportunity. Okay, guys, like, because we are ripe for this big jump, we're going to now be together every Friday because we need to close the feedback loop. And this is going to allow us to then take that next step. This is going to allow us to take our company to the next level and be able to be one of the major players in our space. And with that, we reframed it as an opportunity to a point that now all of a sudden, he's able to be bold and clear. Now they're motivated and committed, and they don't feel like something's been taken away from them. They're like, let's go. I'm ready to give my Fridays away back to being in together. And so step one is define those words. Okay, Define the words. Step two is then envision them in play. What do I mean by that? We literally, after we define it, I said, okay, now we're going to take these next three minutes. Literally takes three minutes. I want you to close your eyes and I want you to envision yourself operating as bold and clear. See everything from what you're communicating to how you're communicating to even how your body posture is and how you're walking and how every single part of you are you decisive Are you indecisive? Because if you're being bold, what are you? He's like, decisive. And he was able to envision that and he was able to visualize. And then I want you to see their faces, the people's faces, your company, your team, See them all of a sudden catching the fire that's in your eyes onto them, and now see how they're going to walk out, how they will walk out compared to how they walked in. So that way they're motivated and committed. I want you to see them going to their desk after your town hall and actually see them feel motivated and committed, more focused for the next two hours and than they normally would have been. I want you to see that and feel that, get integrated. All of a sudden he's like, I'm ready to go for this tunnel. He's like, christian, I got to hang up right now. I'm ready to jump in and speak. And then he texted me. He said it was incredible. This is what we did with his investors. Okay, the first word was confident. The first word was confident. And then. And then the second word was decisive. So it's confident and decisive. But then the two words he wanted them to feel was confident in terms of they're confident that they made the right decision and invest and investing in this company. And then number two is that they feel clear. He wanted them to feel clear. Because ultimately with investors, they want to feel clear that their ROI is going to come back as a return. And they can see that path because if you're not clear, then they know their money's in trouble. And so he's like, okay, I wanted them to feel those two emotions. He stepped into that. He texted me, said, christian, it was the most congruent I've ever been in a while. So it's the same with you. Simple thing to apply. Before every important conversation. Define your two words and your two feelings. Two words you want to embody the two feelings you want them to feel when you're done. We've used this in negotiations. People have gotten the deals they wanted, and the other people that they've done the deal with, they felt great about the deal, too. And so this is going to help you navigate the high intensity, high stakes environments that you're in. But also, if you're a visionary leader, this is also how people can help. This can help you in sales conversations, this can help you in employee conversations. This can help you in investment conversations, promotional partner conversations, that all of a sudden, people are enrolled with you. And so two words and two feelings.
