Brittany Long shows how to use ChatGPT or Claude as a reflective tool for emotional work. She walks through a prompt workflow: give context, ask the AI to think like a therapist, answer follow-up questions, and get an action plan. She shares how she used it after tearing up to the Encanto soundtrack while driving her kid to school.

Have you ever bursted out in tears and wondered what the heck is going on, but you can't quite seem to figure out what triggered it or what happened or how to fix it? In today's episode, I'm going to show you how you can use AI to identify triggers and help you figure out what's going on and how to fix it or how to deal with it, how to cope with it, whatever the case is. So today I was taking my kiddo to school and we're listening to Encanto, which is one of her favorite soundtracks and mine. There's some real bangers on that. And one of the last songs came on where the entire family's back together. They put this house together from scratch and I just start tearing up and I'm thinking, why am I crying about this? This is a children's movie, animated movie. What's going on here? And so what you can do when something like this happens, especially if you notice it happening multiple times to the same thing, is that you can go into ChatGPT or Claude. You can say something like this. I want you to think like a psychologist and a trusted therapist. And just a side note here, I don't think this is a replacement for therapy. Just a little disclaimer there. But I think it could be a useful tool and even something that you can say, hey, to a therapist, to a counselor, hey. I try and figure out what my trigger is. I think it might be this. So that's just a little side note, little disclaimer. But I'm going to say I want you to think like a therapist, like a life coach, like a psychologist. And I want you to help me figure out why I'm feeling a lot of emotions around this thing and what I should do about it, if anything. And so I'm going to describe the situation. I'm going to give it context. So this is when it happened. This is how I've, or like the feelings that came up for me. This is the reaction my body had. These are the other times I've noticed a similar feeling, a similar reaction. Or maybe it's every time I hear this song from Encanto, I start to tear up. And if you're like, I don't even remember when I start to tear up, though. It just happens. I would then paste, copy and paste the lyrics from Encanto into there and say, here's the lyrics. Can you help me identify what might be going on for me and what my next steps are to start to heal whatever it is that's I would also, if there's any other context, I'd give it to that. So in my case, for example, I'm driving my daughter to school. That would be a piece of context as well. There might be something else. Like because this song is about families, I might want to tell it a little bit about my family. But the last piece of this I think is going to be really helpful for you is asking if it has any follow up questions. So instead of just like word vomiting the information which is helpful, I think it's good to word vomit that information. Just kind of brain dump. It doesn't need to be perfect. But after you've brain dumped that information then saying if there are any questions you need to ask me to help you further clarify or understand or help me understand, please go ahead and ask them. Ask as many questions as you need to and it's going to do that. And then for me, what I notice is as it's coming back with stuff, maybe it's asking me questions, maybe it's giving me some ideas. And typically when I ask it to ask like a therapist is going to ask me some questions too. And I have also told it specifically to say things like you said this and that you're feeling X, Y and Z. What do you think could be causing this? Or do you think blah blah blah blah have it ask me questions kind of my mindset coaching be or to notice observations of notice that you said this. Can you expand on that a little bit more? Or how does it feel to blah blah blah blah. And so I, I've asked it to do that for me as well because that helps me kind of sus too. So you can add that in as well. And then my gauge for whether or not it's kind of in the target or not is as I'm reading through what it's told me or what it's telling me, if I notice that feeling start to come up again, the feeling that I felt when listening to that song, for example, say oh, I'm starting to feel how I felt then when I read this thing that you said. And so then I think that helps us kind of some patterns and see, okay, we're in, we're going in the right direction because we're feeling this thing again. Must be a connection of some kind here. There might be a connection of some kind here. And so it helps me cut through some of the issues that I'm feeling or some things that I'm feeling. And then I can say okay, I think it's this because I felt this way again, can we go deeper on this thing? Or if I'm like, I don't wanna go deeper, I'm ready to just kind of go with an action plan for next steps, then I can say that, give me an action plan for next steps that and then whatever the outcome is that I want. And honestly, sometimes I don't know what outcome I want. And so in that case, I'm gonna ask it would be outcome that would be useful for me or supportive of me. My ultimate goal in life is to whatever my goal in life is. And if you're like, I have no idea what my goal in life is, then maybe just what you're wanting for this week, this year, this week, whatever. Giving it some context for the response it gives you. So if your goal is to heal from something versus your goal is to cope with something right now, don't want to go any deeper on it. You just want to kind of with it, are like able to cope with it. So let's say that something comes up for you and it's like the before Black Friday, have a billion things to do. The answer might not be, hey, let's spend all this time healing from it right now. It might be, let's just cope with this for a second. And once my head's on straight again after Black Friday, I'd like to go deeper. So whatever that outcome is that you want right now, give it some context to because it's response and answers are going to be different based on what you say that it is that you want. That's it for today. My name is Brittany Long. I'm the creator of AI to 100k and I will see you next time.
