How AI Can Transform Your Chore Routine
17 Sept 2024 · 7 min
Brittany Long walks through using ChatGPT to build a laundry system that actually works. She gives you a prompt template that treats the AI as a coach, lists your obstacles, and gets it to design a cue-habit-reward loop so chores get done the same day instead of piling up.

Today I'm going to show you how to get AI to do your laundry for you or to help you do your laundry. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to get it to fold yet, unless you're getting a robot. But I will show you how to get it done easier, faster, better with the help of AI. Here we go. All right. The process of putting the laundry in the wash, then putting it in the dryer and then remembering to take it out of the dryer is like the bane of my existence. Not to mention the actual folding part of it and putting it away. And I think if you have any kind of brain that thinks differently than most of the world, it is a little bit challenging to get those things done. If you're somebody that resonates with the memes that talk about how you wash the same pair, same load of clothes like 9 times cuz you keep forgetting to put it in the dryer. This episode is definitely for you. This is going to go beyond just putting it on your calendar because I think we can agree that doesn't often work, but it goes beyond putting on your calendar. And we're going to be using a prompt today. It has helped me a lot and I think will help you too. Like most of my prompts, I'm going to be using ChatGPT for this. This is the one that is most versatile and in my opinion has the easiest user experience. There's plenty of others you can use, like Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, GP Chat Chat GPT just happens to be my favorite and you're welcome to use whichever one suits you. Here's your prompt. I'm going to tell you about a chore that I, you can say, don't like to do, have hard time doing whatever works for you. For me, I'm gonna say I have a chore that I have a hard time remembering to finish. And I want you to think like a psychologist, life coach, habit coach and organizer. And I want you to help me come up with a way to remember to get this done. The task is. And then you describe the task. So if you're doing something besides laundry, you'd say here, for me, I'm going to say the task is remembering to take the clothes out of the washer, put them in the dryer, and then remember to take them out of the dryer, fold them and put them away on the same day. Then I'm going to talk about any obstacles or struggles I've had with this in the past. So obstacles I'm going to say I often Will forget this because I have other things I'm doing. I've got a lot of brain space working on my business or doing stuff with my kiddo. I get distracted. I don't want to do it. I feel fun or exciting to me, which that might seem like a silly thing to put in there, but I'm going to put anything, any reason that I can think of that I have not done it right away. I'm going to put that in here. So I'm definitely adding that in. I always think that I'll get to it later. It seems like a problem for, you know, Lainey than right now. Britney. I don't have time to fold right away. So I don't wanna just put it on the table and then leave it and forget that. I don't feel like I have enough time or energy or desire to fold it. And so I don't wanna just leave it in the dryer or leave it on the table. So those are a few reasons that come to mind for me. And honestly I was able to think of those pretty quickly. Um, so you might have a few also that you can think of. Then I'm gonna ask it for ideas to help me actually get this done and get it done on the same day. Now for me, I also want ideas that feel fun, that feel enjoyable. If the inner personality, you might want it to be something that feels like a competition or something that feels like you're going to get a gold star at the end of it. Whatever it is that makes you feel excited to do something, excited to do this particular thing. If you can give it any of that kind of information, it's going to be helpful for it to make ideas that will work for you. Um, so any kind of ideas like that. So like I said, I like to make it fun. I don't if it's a competition. I like that too. Like I try to beat myself in my last time last scores sometimes that'll work for me. So anything that I know that's worked. So we've already talked about what I want it to behave, what I want the chat GPT to behave as. And I paired it. You know, like I said coach health or habit coach, those kind of things. And this is one of the really cool parts about working with AI to help you do something is that instead of hiring someone where I might say, okay, I need to hire an organizer, they have a background in psychology. They may not have a background in habits. Maybe they do. But with using AI, I can have it act as all of those things at once. And so I'm going to have it act as those things. And then after I've had it, had it like that, then I'm what I want it to do. I'm going to tell it the obstacles. I'm going to tell it what's worked for me in the past. And now that we've done all of those pieces, we're going to say go ahead and do it now. It's going to come up for with some ideas for you. And as we're looking at the ideas, we're going to tell it what we like and don't like. So for example, let's say it gives me 10 ideas and I really like number three because it sounds fun, it sounds like something I can stick with. But number nine says something like write it on chart and give yourself a star at the end of every time you do it. That doesn't really do it for me. I don't really feel excited about that A to do list. Sure. But actually, you know, putting on giving myself a sticker, it just doesn't do it for me. And so I really like number three because and then I describe why I like it. But number nine isn't really doing it for me because and then why I don't think that's going to be a good one or why that one's that one I don't think that I'll be able to stick with. One other thing I really like about doing this this way is that if I was working as a human and they said, you know, here's a few options. Sometimes I feel bad saying I don't like this particular one because now obviously that's a me thing that I need to work on. Um, just the truth of it right now is that in the past I've had, I, I, I have to kind of go with her just because I don't want to hurt somebody's feelings. And again, that's a me issue. But I don't feel that there's not that emotional attach to, you know, KZA gave me. And, and so I can say what I really think way straight from the go without feeling any kind of of feelings. I guess about it from there, ChatGPT is going to give me some more ideas. And then when I find one that I think is a really good one, I'm going to say, okay, now I want you to create a workflow around this. And this comes from the book Habit Reward. I think the book is called Happy or Habit Habit. It's called habit. And then the formula that they use in it is Q habit reward. So basically, what's the trigger that's going to make you do the thing? What's the habit that you want to do, and then what's the reward for doing it? So I'm going to ask ChatGPT to come up with my cue. The trigger, the habit, and then the reward. So the reward for me, my it was fun, it was enjoyable. It was something I took off my to do list and then would be, you know, folding away the laundry. And then the trigger would be something like the moment that I come home from picking or dropping on my daughter off at school or after I do a workout. This is the immediate next thing that I do. But we want to put it in our normal daily workflow so that it doesn't feel like this huge new thing. It just feels like we're kind of tacking someone. And that is how to use AI to help you get more laundry done without leaving it in the dryer or washer for days at a time. And, you know, kind of all over though. Give it a try. Let me know how it goes and I'll talk to you soon. Again, this is Brittany Long, creator of AI200K AI copy club, and I'll talk to you soon.
