How Does Insurance Plan Works with AI

Brittany Long shows how to use ChatGPT and custom GPTs to decode your insurance plan. Upload your plan as a PDF, ask the AI to explain it like you're in 5th grade, and suddenly the jargon makes sense. Insurers write plans to confuse you. This cuts through it.

Have you ever looked at your insurance plan and felt like you were reading a completely different language? I felt that way too. And guess what? Surprise. ChatGPT, AI in general can help. And today we're going to talk about how. Now this is really interesting because in the past, if you have had a question about your insurance plan and how it works or how to use it or what's included, you've had to call in or use the chat bot. And sometimes it doesn't work and sometimes you'll get one answer from one person, one answer from another one. The whole process is very confusing and very frustrating. And now we are in a time where you'll actually be able to talk to ChatGPT about it, ask questions and get clarification based solely on what is written in the plan. I have to admit this might be one of my favorite use cases for AI to date. Now this is an example where it might be really helpful to have a GPT or a chatbot instead of just a chat that you're going back and forth with in case you are a little bit new to the AI world. A chat is like that little tile that is on the left hand side and ChatGPT, you can start a new one and you're going back and forth. It's very conversational. A GPT on the other hand, is more like a bot and it's still in ChatGPT, but you actually have to create it yourself. The benefit of using a GPT is that you can feed in that information like your plan, and then you can ask the questions based on the plan. The benefit of the chat is that you can. It's a little bit easier to go back and forth. I like to think of a GPT more as like a library where you're pulling out the information that's already there. And then I think the chat is more of like you're talking to a teacher and they're asking you questions that help you understand something, or at least that's how I'm using it. So in this situation I want to use it like a library where I'm just pulling out the information. And so in this case I would either use a GPT or I'd create my own chatbot for this. What I'm going to do is go into the GPT, I'm going to create a new one and say I want you to my insurance explainer. I'm going to tell you all about my insurance plan and then I want to be able to ask you questions about what's Included and what's not included, I only want you to take the information from what I give you from the knowledge base that I give you. Now, when I'm saying knowledge base here, basically that just means the files that I want it to pull from. So the files in this case that it's pulling from would be my insurance plan. So I would download that as a PDF and then upload it into GPT. Of course, I'm also going to double check that I don't have any information in there. That is information I wouldn't want shared on the Internet. Just in case. Once you've checked for that, you can then upload your knowledge base, which in this case is your insurance plan, and then you can start, you can save it and then you can start testing it out. And so you might ask it, you know, this particular thing included in my plan, and ask it some easy questions, some questions that you already know the answer to so that you can test if it's working or not. Something else I really like about asking for help with a plan of an insurance plan, of Chat, GPT or from another AI tool is that I can also say things like explain this part to me like I'm in fifth grade, or explain this part to me like I'm in ninth grade. And insurance, I think traditionally has been a challenging thing for folks to understand. If I'm being completely honest, I think that a lot of times it's on purpose. I think a lot of insurance companies, I mean, if you're using your insurance to the fullest extent, that costs them a lot more money. And so my humble opinion is that some of that jargon, some of that confusion, some of that frustration is on purpose. I'm not saying that your cousin Martha, who sells insurance is slimy. I'm just saying I think some of the bigger companies their money. So that's just personal opinion. But either way, if you find it sometimes challenging to understand what the insurance policy is actually saying, asking ChatGPT to say it like you're in ninth grade, or to say it in simpler terms, or to go back and forth with you, even where you say, you know, it comes to me, and then you can say, I don't understand this particular part. Can you explain it in a different way? Can you? To me like I'm in ninth grade, Those things are really helpful. Now, as entrepreneurs, we know that trying to explain things to people at like a 9th grade level is not at all saying they're not capable of understanding something at a deeper level, but it is saying that the more easy you can make something, the more you can make it, the easier it is for people to act on something. And so if ChatGPT or Claude or whatever you're using can help you act on the insurance policy and actually use it when you need it, that's certainly a good thing. So that is how I'd use it today.
