How to Use AI for a Smoother Morning Routine
5 Jun 2024 · 6 min
Brittany Long (AI trainer, former educator) offers a practical walkthrough for how entrepreneurial moms can use ChatGPT/AI to create smoother morning routines, with a focused example of a preschool parent managing two children (one autistic, one neurotypical). She advises: (1) describe the normal morning in as much detail as possible, (2) state the desired outcome and what "smoother" means concretely, (3) list obstacles and prior attempts, (4) ask the model for many idea variants, (5) request a detailed timed schedule constrained by real-world parameters (leave times, meeting times, day-specific differences), and (6) iterate by trying suggestions and refining the same chat. The episode frames AI as an empowerment tool for busy, often-overburdened moms and gives role-play, prompt, and iteration guidance.

You know, who's really going to win out in the AI landscape is moms, especially entrepreneurial moms. And the reason is because moms often, at least at this time, I. I think a lot of moms are still doing a good majority of the child rearing, of the housework, of all of that. And while I see that shifting, and I'm really thankful to have a partner where it's not that way, that we're definitely very much partners, I recognize that as a whole society kind of sees moms as, okay, you need to be a working mom, but also you need to be really present with your kids, but also you need to do X, Y and Z with your house, and you're with your family and all of that. And so it feels, and it is a lot on a mom's plate. And so then when you add on business on top of that and running a business, which is no easy feat, and hopefully it feels fun and stuff like that, but it's not necessarily easy when you add that in. It can be a lot. It can be overwhelming, and it can feel like, at least in my experiences, can sometimes feel like you're losing on all fronts. There have certainly been days where I've felt like, cool, I did not do a great job at anything today. And of course, there's days, too, where I'm like, I crushed today in all areas. But I think that I, and I don't want to speak for all moms, but I wonder if a lot of moms feel this way, where you focus on the days where you feel like you came out short, whether it's in your business, with your family, or whatever the case may be. There are about a million use cases, a million ways that mom entrepreneurs can use AI. And we're going to talk about one each time you hear another episode. And today we're talking about how to use AI for a smoother morning routine. Now, I was talking to. I did a training for a group of preschool administrators, and when I asked towards the end of the training, what's something that you wish AI could do for you? Or what's something that takes you a long time in the morning? One of the. One of the parents that were in there, who was also an administrator, said, you have a few kids. One is a little bit older. I think he was like 17 or 18. And she's like, he has autism. And then the other one is neurotypical. And he, I think, was 8 or 9. And so she was saying, I'm having a hard time getting everybody Dressed and ready and out the door. And I feel like when I do get everybody dressed and ready and out the door on time, I feel like I'm yelling or nagging. Can AI help with that? And luckily it can. So let me detail, I guess what I suggested for her. So the first thing we did was identify what a normal. She'd say, you normally do this. We get dressed, go upstairs a few times to get my. My second kiddo up and ready. And so we just went through. I said, you know, as much detail as possible. What does a normal morning look like for you? So we put that into ChatGPT. And when I'm talking to ChatGPT, I'm very conversational. So pretty much exactly what she told me is what I put into chat GPT. I didn't feel like I had to make it perfect or say act like a blah, blah, blah. Just started with, here's exactly what she's experiencing. And then once we had that, I said what we wanted. So this is what a normal day looks like for us. I want your help figuring out how to make this a smoother morning so that I don't feel like I have to yell or nag. My. My kids feel empowered to be able to do some of these things on their own without me yelling or nagging. Now, if you want to, you could say act like a parent coach or act like a autism support coach or whatever it is. And even if that role doesn't actually exist, you can still say act like a X, Y and Z. It'll be able to pick up context clues of what you're looking for. The more specific you can be, the better. So you might say act like a parent coach who specializes working with children and parents, which the children have autism. Next, we talked about the outcome. What is it that she wanted to get out of the morning? So I want the morning to be smoother. We were specific to instead of just I want it to be smoother. What does smoother look like? What does that feel like? That he's out the door on time. Everybody's out the door on time and has a smile on their face. Everybody's out the door on time, has a smile on their face. No nagging had to happen from you. Everybody had breakfast. Like, what exactly does it look like? Then we'll talk about obstacles we've tried so far. So tried X, Y and Z. And it hasn't worked. Because here's why it hasn't worked. If there isn't anything that has worked in the past, you're gonna give it that as well. And we might start by saying give me, you know, ideas for a smoother day once we or smoother morning routine. Once we see those 20 ideas, we can say, I like this one because you like it. And then give me more ideas like that. Once we have some ideas, then we can say, all right, great. Now, based on what I've told you, I want you to create a morning routine for me. And then at that point we're gonna say, you know, I start the day at this time, but I'd rather start it at this time. Um, you could say the hard times that we have to leave, like we have to leave at this particular time, or I have to be at work at this particular time, or I have meetings starting at this particular time. So you're going to give it those parameters and then you're going to ask it to create a detailed schedule. And it can be minute by minute, it can be hour by hour, it can be in 15 minute increments, whatever you want. Just be specific about that and anything different on certain days. So for me, for example, on Tuesdays, I usually have that's my call day. And so I know that I need to be back by a certain time because that's when my call schedule starts. And I put that in there. But I don't do that. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. And then I'd also add in, you know, I try to take off, take off. And it knows not to plan something on Friday, it can give me some other stuff instead. The last thing you're going to do is try some of the suggestions it gives you and then go back to that same chat and say, this worked. I think this is why this didn't work. I think this is why. Can you give me more ideas? And so you'll continually go back and forth with it to refine it until you feel like you have a routine that really works for you and for your kids, for your business. Now, I put a lot of work into figuring out how to prompt ChatGPT or Claude on all so that you don't have to, you don't have to spend the time doing that.
