How to Use AI for Medical
10 Jun 2024 · 5 min
A short podcast by Brittany Long (recorded June 10, 2024) advising listeners to use AI chat tools to prepare for medical appointments. She frames the problem around anxiety and forgetting symptoms (rooted in a personal 2016–2017 cancer scare) and offers a step-by-step workflow: tell an AI (ChatGPT4O or Claude/Claude 3 Opus) your symptoms, ask it to draft questions and bullet-point summaries, and rehearse a mock conversation via the ChatGPT mobile app to reduce anxiety.

Have you ever felt so sick that you're thinking, okay, I'm going to the doctor's office. I know what my symptoms are, I know how I'm feeling. And then by the time you get there, you're either feeling sicker and you can't remember everything, or you just are like me and you can't remember anything in general. And the doctor says, oh, what brings you in today? And you say, I have a sore throat. But in reality, there's 16 other things that you're experiencing that you want to share, but you just don't remember in the moment if that's ever happened to you. I have a good news. AI can help. Now, normally we talk here about AI for entrepreneurs, and we talk more about the business side, but today I want to talk about this medical side of it. If you. I guess I should say this. I had a cancer scare. Well, back in 2016, 2017, somewhere around there. And it really shook me to my core. There's two solid weeks where I thought I had cancer, thought I was dying, and it turns out they're wrong. It was. I still don't really understand exactly what happened, but somebody was wrong and I didn't. And so, great news. And every time I've gone to the doctors since I, leading up to it, have quite a bit of anxiety. It's taken. It's what, 20, 24 now, as I'm recording this? So it's taken nearly a decade to not feel as much anxiety. Every time I go to the doctor, I still feel a little bit of it. But if you've ever been in that kind of situation, or maybe just doctors in general make you feel really nervous, then this tip that I'm gonna share today is gonna be for you. Before you go to the doctor, there's a few things that you're going to do to prepare. The first thing is you're going to Talk to either ChatGPT4O or Claude. And I like Claude 3 Opus personally, but you're gonna talk to one of those, and you're going to basically say, I'm going into the doctor's office today and I'm feeling however you're feeling. I want to remember all the symptoms that I have, and I want to make sure that I'm asking any questions that would be helpful for me to ask. I don't want to be Googling my symptoms or Googling anything they say when I get home, because I know typically when I do that, I spiral. You wouldn't have to have that part if that's not true for you, but that's certainly true for me. After you put in your symptoms and you ask it to help you figure out what to say, what to ask, any concerns that you should address with the doctor, then you can even ask it to put it into a summary or bullet points. Basically you can say, I want you to list out everything that I should ask the doctor, everything that I should ask about, follow up after this, everything I should ask about, how long I can expect to be sick, any of that kind of stuff, stuff that you sometimes forget, sometimes that you always. Some stuff that you always remember. Put all of that in there. Anything that you think would be helpful and if you're thinking, Brittany, I'm not sure what would be helpful, then you can say that, I don't know what would be helpful. I just don't want to feel. I want to feel better as soon as possible and I don't want to feel anxious about this. And voila, there you go. Now, the other thing that you can do that I think is really helpful is you can go to chatgpt4o on your phone whether you have mobile or, sorry, whether you have Android or iPhone, either have the ChatGPT app. When you go to look for it in the App Store or the Google Play Store, it's going to say something like ChatGPT by OpenAI. And at least last time I checked, which was June 2024, you it had like over a hundred million reviews and 4, 4, 8 stars, if that helps. There you go. Anyway, so you're going to go into there and in the bottom right hand corner you're going to see some headphones. You're going to click on those headphones and that's going to let you actually talk to ChatGPT. And so you're going to be able to go back and forth. And what I like to do is have a mock conversation while talking to my doctor. And so you can wait for the, so you can wait for it to come up and then you can essentially say, I want you to pretend like you're my doctor. I'm not asking you for medical advice. I just want your help having a mock conversation so that when I do go to see my doctor, I feel more comfortable. And so it'll say, okay, let's do it. And it might give you some suggestions on things you can say differently. Either way, it's going to give you an opportunity to be able to talk out what you want to say so that when you do go into the doctor's office you feel more confident sharing your thoughts, your concerns, whatever it is. I find that when I practice this kind of stuff, whether it's talking to someone, talking on stage, whatever, wherever it is that I'm talking, practicing it ahead of time can be really helpful. And for me, this feels really empowering, especially going to a doctor's office, especially if it's a new one or a new kind of doctor that I haven't seen before. I've had a few circumstances with doctors that I felt just really weren't listening. And while I normally wouldn't stay with a doctor that I feel is being dismissive, there's going to be situations or circumstances where changing is really difficult, especially if you're in like a role might not be super easy to access another doctor. So kind of playing and going over what you would say, what you might expect them to say, you might say things differently. To be more clear or to be more assertive could be really helpful. I'm Brittany Long, the queen of Evergreen and creator of AI to 100k, as well as the mom entrepreneurs using AI to save money to make money and save time. I will talk to you soon.
