Maximizing Health with a Personalized Sleep Recovery Plan
4 Oct 2024 · 6 min
Brittany Long describes a personalized approach to recovering from acute sleep loss using AI (ChatGPT) to generate both a short-term recovery plan and a preventive SOP. She frames recovery as individual: she uses personal health data (blood tests, 23andMe, and diabetes monitoring) to ask AI to adopt specialized roles (doctor, nutritionist, coach) and produce tailored advice for glucose control, nutrition, naps, and workflow changes to avoid repeating late-night hyperfixations. The episode is both reactive (same-day recovery plan) and proactive (triggers and SOPs to prevent recurrence).

Last night I went down the rabbit hole of learning and all things already, I think, talked about all things AI and whatnot. But there's always so much to learn, so many new things happening with AI, that sometimes I will get into a little bit of a hyper fixation and spend a long time going through new AI tools. And that's great for people in my community, but not so great for my sleep schedule. In this episode, we're going to talk about what to do when you have a little bit of a sleep hangover. In other words, you're not sleeping enough and you stayed up all night learning something new or stayed all night up all night with a sick kiddo or whatever the case may be. Maybe you're binge watching something and how to use AI to help you recover from that. Let's go. So first things first is I'm looking to optimize how my body interact or how my brain and body interact and be able to keep my body operating at tip top shape. Ideally, I'm going in for a blood test once a year, at least, things like that. And for me, because I have type 2 diabetes currently, I go in pretty much once a quarter, once every six months, and get quite a bit of blood work done. And so I have a lot of results that I can pull from. And then I also have, I did 23andMe a while back and so I have that as well. And so then I can start to pull in some of that information as well so that I have a better idea of when I'm really tired. What are the best ways for me to recover. You may be thinking, Brittany, why wouldn't you want to just use conventional information, go take a nap when you get home, those kind of things? It's for the same reason that we don't all eat the same thing and have the same result. For example, I know that in order to feel my best and maintain a solid, stable blood sugar, I want to start with something that has lots of fiber and protein. And then after that I can add in other things, carbs and fats and things like that. But my primary goal when eating anything is going to be protein and fiber. If I do that and drink honey water and get good sleep, then I know I can maintain a stable blood sugar. Or if you have a neurodivergent brain and you've heard people say things like, oh, just do X, Y and Z and that'll work for you. And you've tried X, Y and Z a million times and it does not work for you, it's kind of the same thing when we are recovering from something, whether it's recovering from a workout, maybe you are training for a 5k or half marathon or whatever, or you made forward life choices like I did last night and stayed up way too late learning binge fest. Whatever the case is, using AI can be really helpful. So here's a prompt I'm going to be using today to help my body recover as quickly as possible, still be able to get things done. I'm going to go into ChatGPT and I'm going to say I want you to think we've talked about this before, you don't have to stick to just one thing. So I like to do multiple things I like, for example, I'll say things like I want you to think like a doctor or I want you to think like a nutritionist instead of the. Or I'll say I want you to think like a nutritionist who works specifically with people who have type 2 diabetes, who are moms, who or 36 year olds old. So I make up this person, this doctor, so to speak, who works with a really specific subset and in this case my subset. And so that is really, I want to do with this too. So in my case for today, I want you to think like a doctor who specifically works with X and a nutritionist who specifically works with X, who also work with athletes to help them optimize their health. And a business coach specializes in biohacking. And so it's a really specific report and advice that I'm looking for. We'll sometimes also say, while I know you're not a doctor, act like you're blah, blah, blah, because if I don't, sometimes it'll be like, oh, I can't give you that information. I'm not actually a doctor. And so sometimes you just have to specify that and it'll let you move forward. So then after I've done that, I'm going to tell it what I'll tell it the background, so the context. And I'm going to say I stayed up way too late last night. Sugar was high this morning because of it. I did not sleep enough. I only slept X amount of hours. Here's what I have on the docket for today. I need you to help me come up with a recovery plan so that my body can recover from this as quickly as possible. And I'm also gonna ask it to help me set up an SOP so that I don't do this again, that there's some kind of trigger when it's, you know, it's 1am in some kind of. Maybe some kind of trigger go off where it's like, hey, you're still awake. You're still doing these things, learning these things, which is great, and gonna really be kicking yourself in the morning. So let's go ahead and start our sleep routine. And so that's how I'm going to approach it. That way, not only are we working on recouping on improving my recovery time for today so that I can function like a normal human, also looking at how can I make sure this doesn't continue to happen? So I'm trying to be both reactive and fixing what I did today, but also proactive so that I don't continue to do this. I have noticed for me in the past has been a problem where happens once, like one day of the week, it's easier for it to happen a few more times or even one more time. And I don't want that to be the case. So I want to be able to stop that cycle when I see it. I can ask about that also. All right, that's it for today. If you are running on little sleep like I am today, may the odds be in your favor. I'll talk to you next time. This is Brittany Long of AI to 100K. We'll see you next time.
