Stress-Free Vacation Planning with AI
17 Sept 2024 · 5 min
Brittany Long (creator of AI200K) presents a podcast episode teaching listeners how to use ChatGPT to plan stress-free vacations. The episode focuses on a prompt-template approach: instruct ChatGPT to role-play a local travel agent, supply trip details (number of travelers, ages, personal interests, food preferences), state desired outcomes (relaxation, family memories, excitement) and constraints (days out per trip, meal times), then iterate by giving feedback to refine the itinerary. The episode emphasizes that prompts can be informal and iterative and notes a follow-up episode covering on-trip use of ChatGPT.

If you've ever felt more worn out from going on vacation than not being on vacation, this episode is for you. I'm going to tell you how you can use CHAT GPT to go on vacation, have a stress free vacation, know exactly what to do and when. And this is going to be a two part episode. We're going to focus in this episode on the planning piece of it and then in the next episode how to actually go on the vacation and once you're there, how to use ChatGPT. All right, so planning your vacation, if you are like a lot of entrepreneurial moms, you have a lot on your plate already. So while the thought of a vacation may be exciting and something you're looking forward to, if you're like me, planning it may not be something you're looking forward to. And so we're going to talk about the prompt that you can use to help you plan your trip with AI and some things you might want to think about. We're going to start with this prompt. I want you to think like a travel agent who is, and typically what I'll say here is a travel agent who is a native of the area, who is, has lived in the area for 20 years, something like that. And I'll specify what area it is obviously that I'm looking to be in. And so I'm looking for a travel agent who has lived in Huntington, West Virginia for the last 20 years, who knows all the best ins and outs, all the best local eateries, who can tell me when the festivals are happening and when, plus which ones are going to be worth my time and which ones aren't based on my goals. So like usual, we're starting by telling ChatGPT how we want it to think, a role that we want it to play. Next we're going to tell it about what we want it to do or the outcome. And so I'm going to say I want, after I've said I want you to think like travel agent, I'm going to say now I want you to tell me then whatever it is that I wanted to tell me. So I want you to tell me or help me plan a trip for X amount of people. And typically I'll also say the ages, so three people are, you know, 6 and 4 year old, want your help planning this trip so that it's fun for everyone. And then I'll go into what everybody likes. So I'll say, you know, like visiting the parks, state parks, trees or well, trees, yeah, but I like seeing, you know, olives doing that kind of stuff. Any if there is any kind of festivals or anything like that, I want to be at those chili cook offs. Anything related to fall, I want to be there. I'm going to list the things that my four year old likes, the things that my husband likes. Once I've done that and I've said, you know, here's the kind of trip that we want to have. I go into here's the kinds of foods that we like, talked about, what we like to do, what we like to eat, what we want to see. And then here's really where that outcome piece comes in. I talk about we want to get out of this trip. So I might want a trip that's relaxing. I might want a trip that is building core memories. I might want a trip that is exciting. All of these might be the same trip, but they also might not. And so by explaining exactly what it is that you want to get out of this trip, it's going to be easier to have the trip that you're looking for. So I might say something like, I'm looking to relax while building family memories. I don't want to stay at the Airbnb the whole time. We'd like to go out so much that we're exhausted coming home. And you'll notice that that prompt was not like, it is not a perfect way of saying that. I kind of was a little bit rambly because I am talking to ChatGPT. It's okay to do that, it's okay to ramble, it's okay to kind of dump. It doesn't have to be perfect. If there's any other restrictions or anything like that that I want to have, I'm going to let ChatGPT know now. So, for example, if I'm just saying I want you to plan this trip for us, don't want to go out every day, maybe I only want to go out three of the four days. I'm going to say I want, you know, go out three of four days max. I think anything more than that and I'll be too exhausted to blah, blah, blah kind of specifications. I'm going to share that there. And then I'm going to press Enter once it gives me an itinerary, give it feedback what I like and don't like. There's almost always stuff that I didn't think about. And so it says, oh, there's a quilting festival happening. As Brittany said, she wants to go to any festival that's there. She'll want to go to this one, but I'm not really a quilter. I think they're beautiful. I like looking at them. But probably not going to go to a quilting festival. I would just give it feedback. Oh, I like this. I don't like this. And here's why. It's saying that we're going to have dinner at 8pm and I'm like, oh, that's way too late for us. Dinner at 4:35pm Then I'll ask it to redo the itinerary with the updates. And so from there it will have planned out that trip for us from start to finish. The next episode that I have which is coming up next is going to cover what to do when you're actually on the trip, all the ways that you can use ChatGPT for that. All right, plan your next trip. Let me know how it goes and I'll talk to you soon. This is Brittany Long, creator of AI200K and we'll talk to you in the next episode.
