SPEAKER A guides a group discussion on meditation and consciousness, exploring nonduality, the nature of self, and impermanence. The conversation weaves together personal practice, encounters with a guru, and how observation and feeling relate to awakening.
Chapters
I highly recommend spending, you know, a few minutes each day in that meditative exercise. Ideally in the mornings, but it can be done anytime. Sit and do essentially brings up the nature of mind from the background to the. What you may call foreground, Which is the chaotic mind, you know, that we, that we can witness when we try to meditate.
Oh so actually when I first used to meditate like this was years ago. This used to happen. Keeping calm or keeping your mind blank was an effort. And absolutely every thought used to flood out like you know, kids in a playground. But recently, like maybe, maybe six, seven months ago, it's, it's, it's becoming effortless. Now that a. I am able to observe and just the observed sounds body.
Because what has become clear is that what is it that is happening? You know, what is it that has become clear? If you think that there is a ghost, you will run away from it in that activity. The ghost disappears only for a moment, to only come back at any time. The only way to get rid of the ghost is to not run away is to fully address it and see what is this ghost that you are afraid of. To understand it thoroughly and, and to convince yourself with your own conviction that there is no such thing called a ghost. No one can tell you that any explanation is not your own. And you have to convince yourself that your fear is unfounded. So when you say that it's become easier and all that, it's because earlier any trigger would launch you into the reaction based on the false knowledge. If the false knowledge is not there, there is nothing to react to. So what you're saying is I'm able to observe is not that you're able to observe. Observation is natural. It is happening all the time, but the reaction is not there, Correct?
Yes, exactly.
Yeah. So there is nothing you can do to observe. Observation is not possible to stop. Nice.
Okay.
So all there is is observation or it is called the witness, you know, and if you say witness, it is not a witness anymore. It becomes a reaction like I witnessed. So it is the non witnessing witness. That's why they say God is blind. Not because he cannot see, but he doesn't see anything in particular. He sees everything. So that blind is actually the eyesight of perfection. Not seeing is the real seeing. You see.
For me it all started with the. With noticing my breathing. And I guess breathing made me a lot calmer. And slowly and steadily it became easier to fall easily into the meditative phase state and just, you know, just observe without. Just like you said, without reactions based on observations or without the chain reaction of thoughts leading into entire scenarios. So that stopped happening.
Yes. So that's the practice. Why we call it a practice? You know, meditation is a practice. You don't need to meditate. We don't have to sit and do it because observation is all there is and it is happening at all times. Right. Observing something in particular is what we are referring to when we say I will meditate. So where is the need for meditation? You see, within the ocean, you go to seek water. You find it in the river and you say, this is the river that I will be doing every day. Morning, then afternoon special, then I'll sit for evening this river. But it's the ocean. You're sitting inside and talking.
Correct. In this case, it's nothing but escapism where you just escape the reality for a while.
Correct.
It doesn't really actually help you. You don't understand the. The core of it, but you just.
Absolutely. Because meditation, if you do, you know, if you do meditation, this is meditation. That is meditation. Again, it's an idea and it's again a false idea and a concept. Whereas what we are actually saying is it is the stopping of the unnatural, the optional right. Something that can be stopped. Stop it. Something that cannot be stopped is always there, you know.
So true.
And something that cannot be stopped had no beginning, you see? Correct.
It's infinite.
It is eternal. Means what they say, eternity. It is not a concept, you know, that word is not clear because it is based on the concept of time, whereas it refers to the timeless. So one cannot comprehend eternity. One cannot comprehend infinity because comprehension is limitation and it requires knowledge, which is itself limited.
And time is a part of it. The knowledge.
Yes. Time and space are both needed to express and to cognize concepts.
Yep. Doesn't mean they are the ultimate answer.
Any answer. Or ultimate, not ultimate. All these are concepts based on the conceptualization of infinity. You see, because infinity has no concepts, It includes everything you see, including all concepts of it. Right and wrong. Because it's infinite, therefore, it includes the wrong and right about everything and itself. It includes concepts of itself, right and wrong. And since we have said all concepts are wrong, it includes what? Its own veiling factor, its own illusion. So it appears as an illusion only, you see, it can appear no other way. And of course, when we say illusion, it only means partial. It means that it is not complete when viewed as partial. It is an illusion. Like saying what we discussed the first time. I think there was an accident on the street. Something happened. If you say that is it not a partial description of the totality of what happened and what is happening at all times? And in that there is nothing to.
Describe partial or subjective.
Same thing. Because it's based on an individual who is using their own past experiences to interpret how it impacts them. And it's only based on the immediate timeline of, you know, past, present and future for that individual.
Once we start to. To appreciate this concept that this is all a figment of our imagination, we are putting on labels. We are thinking subjectively and hence partially. I have started to notice so many things that we spend time on are actually worthless to spend time on. And you could.
It's.
It's. It's a lot of. I guess.
See what happens is you're not. It's not worthless. You know. What happens is you see that it is a temporary thing. It's all fleeting. What is the point?
No, as in involving your brain into something which should not matter at all.
And why doesn't it matter? You know, even though it's happening, why doesn't it matter? This clarity has come because you realize anything that's happening is fleeting and temporary and it will disappear in a minute.
Correct.
Why should you get involved in something that's about to disappear?
Exactly. Or disappeared already.
Already. No, everything, whatever you refer to is gone. You only talk about the past, including this word. What are we describing? Is it new? The eternity? No point. You see?
Yep.
So when you see the pointlessness of it all, that is when the mind finally falls silent.
Exactly.
Then when the mind falls silent, you are left with what cannot fall silent. There. The word silence and non silence. Just like good and bad. And all these concepts don't apply there. Time and space, all those things. You are out of that. And it's seen clearly. Just like a dream is seen. As the eternal non witnessing witness.
Only after I could grasp this.
I.
Could realize that in this space you can really take the most genuinely creative actions. And it does happen.
Genuine creativity can be seen when the genuine non creative parts of mind are also seen clearly. You see. Once you see that there is all this activity which is not creativity, then immediately you will see what is creativity.
Exactly. Yes. This is well put. This is exactly. I was trying to phrase it in this. Yep. This is. This is exactly what I want to do.
That is why it is called creation. The whole thing is a created figment of your own imagination.
All that mess is just gone.
Simple. No?
Yep.
One lives with freedom because one is able to do what one wants. You know, not that There is an individual there, but there is any. This urge, you know why? There is a dream, suddenly the dream starts, you understand? Because there is an urge to experience a desire. You know, that is what is called desire. Without desire, will there be any movement? There cannot be any movement without some desire. You know, wanting to be this and that gives rise to the dream. And this wanting to be this and that, isn't it not the most stupid thing. I am a graphics designer.
Or even meddling with the thoughts, as in what if the all the what ifs. What if I had done this?
You know, the final thing you will realize is what is the point of this conversation? Yes. And you understand this conversation is also very pointless, you know, Because ultimately no one is waking up because no one was asleep. And in fact, nothing is happening. So this becomes so clear that whatever happens or not happens is same.
But then as every movement passes, there is a lot of information that is to be that is automatically gathered as memory.
Not at all. No, no, no, no. See, the reaction is the memory. They are not. No, they're one and the same.
What I mean is that we carry stuff from the past. Not sometimes, not as a reaction, but as an inspiration. I don't know how to describe it well, but.
No, no, See that inspiration is again, a. A copy. You know, you see something and you're inspired by that. You want to do it this way, in that way, you know, you're inspired. Inspiration means from the past, you know, from somebody else, something else, an external factor.
No, I actually want to say something else. What I want to say is. So even in this conversation, it needed some understanding of the previous calls to have or to say or to think of specific words. So we do carry stuff from the past, but it's not. It's not a reaction anymore.
No, no, no. Again, let me make it even clearer. You see, you are claiming that past, you know, you're saying, this is my past. I did this, I did that. This is why I know now. This is something new, is it not? What is the difference between this knowledge and any other knowledge? It's not. It's all false, isn't it? Yes, but I understand what you're saying. You're feeling more clear because of the past few conversations. And it will become clearer and clearer and clearer. Ultimately, all knowledge is gone.
Yep.
Including memory, is it not? Do you need memory? Does the tree need to know what to do next?
Yeah, exactly. No, I'm not talking about memory at all. Yes.
What I'm saying is knowledge. Knowledge is memory. If you say I needed past memory and past knowledge because it's past. No, you said last few calls. So that is memory and knowledge both are same. You don't have to rely on that. You know, let's say if you don't have that information now, those memories, are you still not the same level of clarity. So it is not the past that got you to this level of clarity. Because the past is what we are discarding, you know? So eventually you have to realize that you yourself are not the one that is becoming clear. If you say I was not clear and now I'm clear, who is that I. Is that itself not a memory? Otherwise, what is this clarity itself we are talking about? Is there something really called clarity? Or is there. You understand reality and clarity? And I mean, it doesn't have. These are all concepts, you know. So what I'm saying is we are referring to your own true nature, which has no past and has. This is your actual nature not dependent on knowledge. Correct.
That's.
Yes. Therefore, the past knowledge that we have discussed, now, all this is.
All this is happening, that it's completely spontaneous.
Correct. It is nothing to do with any past whatsoever. We are creating that imagination that. It's because of this and because of that. Just like the car accident, you're associating all the individual things to it, Whereas there is no partial thing here, no division whatsoever, a single unfolding. Even that word single is not there because it's infinite.
Correct? Yep. Even if you are acting on nostalgia, you are still not hinging on the past, but you're living. It's a thought that happened. It's a thought that you are working on. It's a thought that you're acting on, but it's in the. In the present.
Everything happens in the now. What you call past is created in the now.
Exactly. Yes. That's what I'm saying. So even if. Even if I am building some app or drawing some doodle which is based on some nostalgic memory, it's still in the now. It's. I get it. I. I get what you mean.
There is no past. You see what you're saying? This is a memory, and you're creating a person whose memory it is. Otherwise, the whole thing is simply a flow of water. No waves as such. You cannot say this is a wave. That is a wave. It is all just water, is it not? Just the ocean is flowing there. If you ask the wave, hey, how big are you? Big or small wave or whatever. What will the wave say? Wave will be Like, I don't know what you're talking about. I'm the ocean. I'm not a wave. Is there a wave? This point has to become clear, you know, in the ocean, are there waves? If you say yes, then the answer is that yes, if there are, there are things that you're pointing to within the totality of what is, and saying, this is there and that is there, similar to this tree is there and that person is there. But in fact, what is there is the entire universe as it is. It's infinite as it is. You cannot say infinite also.
As it is.
As it is in its fullness, completeness as it is. It's right there. No, what is the reason to say it's a wave when the whole ocean is right there in front of you? Is this clear? Yep.
It's not moving. It's not stagnant.
Nothing is moving. Yes. What moves is only illusion. It cannot move, you see, the actual thing. Because there is nothing there. You know, how can the nothingness move? Or if it is the totality, what is the meaning of movement? When you talk in terms of the totality, what will move? You see? Can the totality move with respect to what? Movement is always relative. But as we are discussing the absolute, and therefore, by definition, there is no movement there. And whatever moves is the relative only. Relative to what? To the absolute. So relative to itself, it moves. So it's the own. It's. It witnesses itself. That's it, you see? So when it's already witnessing itself, where is the need to say, I will witness it? Correct. So where is the need to meditate or be an observer when all there is is observ. In other words, where is the need to go and try to become a conscious this, that awakening, when all there is is consciousness? Sa. Thoughts. I. I agree with two.
I mean, two things that we kind of went over again and again. One of this is there are. I mean, there's no point to these conversations because at the end, no one's sleeping, no one's awake. It's all observation. The second thing that I kind of love are, you know, next to the manganology, is the wave one. I mean, yeah, there is no wave. Right. There's no way of the ocean.
It's.
It's just one thing.
Who calls it a wave? Correct. Correct.
Correct.
That's what my point is. Yeah. So the. The observer is the one who calls it a wave. Absolutely. Ocean doesn't say that this is a wave. Yes.
I don't know what you're talking About.
Correct. Right. If you go and ask the sun, you know, why it is, you know, if you go say thank you, you know, for life in planet Earth. Every single thing in planet Earth is dependent on the sun. Yeah. You go and tell the sun, so, God, the sun God, you know, thank you so much for all the bounty. What will it say?
I don't know what you're talking about. Yeah.
Because he doesn't know what you're talking about.
Yeah.
But if it did.
Yeah. They won't. In fact, if you let the sunlight completely on top of this, you know, Earth, it will burn everything if it comes too close and all that, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what is happening is. Is happening in the presence of the sun without any conscious effort on the part of the sun. You understand? The entire movement of the universe is dependent on the sun, who is unaware of it. Correct. In particular, however, it is aware of the totality because it is the totality. The totality is the sun. If the sun destroys, I mean, dies, everything is gone. Finished. Yeah. So everything is the sun. It's like the sunlight, is it not? That the sunlight is the sun. We only call it the sunlight. You know, it's a word. We say, sunlight, as if there is a difference between the sunlight and the sun. And the sun, which created time and the earth and evolution and all the billions of years, as if it's different. We are creating waves. Giving meaning to what is already just consciousness.
Correct.
So that word meaning needs to become very clear. There is nothing called meaning. When meaning itself loses meaning, then everything becomes clear. Manchu. What are you thinking about? Manchu is not there. He's on mute.
So at what part of your life did you really start to notice these. These observations?
Guruji, I went through a whole phase in life in 2020. I mean, 20, 15, 14 and 15 and 16 and 17. It was a total disaster in many, many ways, in my own professional and, you know, like, different parts of, like, life, you know, And I was seeking this truth about what is confusing, you know, my own sense of reality. And so it became an obsession at one point, and I began to, like, read everything I could find about. I mean, I eventually discovered these topics, you know, eventually discovered Buddhism and things like that. And I went really deep into all our Buddhist teachings. And I understood intellectually a lot of the stuff, but nothing close to, like, you know, the truth, of course, because words are totally, you know, the illusion themselves. The words are the very problem.
Yep.
Therefore, I gave up, you know, in late 2016, and two weeks later, I Found my guruji next to me on the plane back to. From Dubai to San Francisco, or rather from here to Dubai, actually from San Francisco. And, you know, sitting next to me and we started to talk. And his first few words were like, you know, because I don't know how it came up in a late, early 80s, late 70s when I met him. And now he's, you know, in his 80s. But. These are like the realized sages that wander the planet. You know, in any given timeline, there are always points of clarity, like black holes in the universe, you know, so these are like the. What you call black holes or white holes. Both are same. Whereas reality emerges and coerces around nodes in the neural network, so to speak, of the world. All the points of consciousness you call it, or a point of view, right. From where you can see something limited. All these points of view together combine into more points of view, you know, but if you remove all points of view, then there is something else there.
Just clarity.
The very source of seeing. So that's when he told me, he said, you know, thoughts are not reality. First one of the first sentences he said, and I was like, no idea what he meant.
So is he like a, you know, one of those renowned sages like Sadhguru and everyone or of the.
The actual ones are not known, you know, because you don't need to know.
Yeah, that's why. That's why I asked.
That's why Sadhguru is a marketing campaign.
Yeah.
But the reality underneath, there are real points of clarity in the universe, like black holes. You can either be a discussion point and you can tell everybody what is a black hole, or you can go to a black hole and see it, you know, so when that completely vanishes the thing which is temporary, what remains is evident. And why is it evident? Because when you go there nearby, you also get burned. You know, if you go near the sun, you will get burned. But if you can sit here and talk about the sun all you want, And what we are discussing is like a death, you know, what is death? People are afraid of death. Complete wiping out of everything is, you know, you cannot remember yourself. You know, this has to become totally and you know, so clear, that notion of I. What is that I? It's a foolish idea. No.
I guess that's the fact that scares most of the people.
So that is the thing. They don't let go of it. If you don't let go, you will never get past. You're the one holding it. You see.
All your decisions are oriented towards your Weakening, growing, age.
No, no. It is dependent on rethinking that this waking state is real and that something you must do to kind of sustain it.
Yep, exactly. And then once you, once you're older.
Whereas you never even started it this morning you suddenly woke up, you know, you had no control. And when you go to sleep also you have no control. Suddenly it will be gone. Where is the question of sustaining it? Wow.
If only. If only people understood this easily.
Don't go around trying to solve it for anybody. No, no, it doesn't exist. So what you have to do is awaken. That's it.
One of my friends always tells me that, hey, you know, you should watch Sadhguru's videos. There are so many people sharing so many experiences. And I tell him that in a way, you are watching a thousand repetitions of the same concepts over and over again. It's not awakening for you anymore.
It's, it's.
It looks like you're having fun. You're just getting entertained. If you were implementing it, you would have moved on from one Guruji to. To another Guruji, which you can find in life experiences or your work or whatever, you know, you don't need to. There's a billion people on earth with a billion life experiences that they just want a stage to talk about. It's not going to end, right?
It is infinite, you see. Yeah. Both sides are infinite. So that is what the beautiful thing is. You can be in infinity because all there is is infinity. Illusion is also infinity. The truth is also infinity because all there is is the truth. You see, there is nothing in no illusion at all in the end. Because the one who calls it an illusion is the illusion. Therefore, there is nobody to go and discuss this with. We are only in it for ourselves. The one self. There is only the one single self. We are doing it for the Self with self, Myself, ourself, I, Self with you. Self, whatever self, the self, you understand, there is. There is only the self. If you do it for the other, you have created something that is not there. The self is evident.
No, exactly. The very fact that you are also perception of what you think you are. Just connect the past and then you see, that's it.
The minute you say think, you're already in La La land.
Yep.
And the word I is the first basis of thought.
We literally imagine ourselves.
Yes.
And then we say that, hey, you know what? I'm going to imagine you.
Yes. Is it not. Is it like the color green? You know, we all can say this is all you Know, we can say it's called green, but is it not just a convention? And you know something, we all agree on that what we see and what you see, different as it is, but because we see it same day, same time, same thing over and over, let's call it green. There is no shared reality there other than this world. So the empty words are creating confusion. Only because if I say, you know, happiness, what does that even mean? It has no meaning. You can look in a dictionary, but all those words are same again, no meaning individually other than what you imagine.
Exactly. They're just synonyms of the same thing.
Hey, Brandon. Happy New Year.
Hey.
Happy New Year. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year, Brandon.
Thank you.
Happy New Year. How's everyone? When did you land in?
I saw the funky headphones.
Oh, yeah. Thank you.
This is my.
My Christmas. I thought they were fine.
Oh, you're on mute.
I was trying to. I was trying to save you the sound of the trash being gathered. So it's.
It's.
It was really good to hear you guys talking about this. It's kind of the space I was in this morning thinking about it.
We're literally talking about nothing, right?
Yeah, right.
I've been.
I've been trying to just feel it and not think about it. That's been interesting.
Boss. If you try to feel it, you'll never feel it.
No, I mean. I mean, to be less concerned with what I think about.
No, no. First, understand what is a feeling? Can you tell me exactly what is a feeling? No. So let us just quickly clarify. What exactly is a feeling? When you say I feel it, or something I'm feeling, or exactly what is happening there?
There's a sensation. It's being.
Felt. How do you know there is a sensation?
I don't know how to tell you, but I can say I can feel it.
No, no. In specific, you are comparing past and present.
Yes.
This comparison of past and present is creating some idea in you, and that idea is creating a feeling. So you are generating the feeling based on your own ideas of what is there in front of you. So the very feeling has to be seen as the unreal thing that is creating a problem. So when you say I want to feel it. Feel what? You cannot feel anything in particular. You know, if you're after the absolute.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm trying to shift my attention and have it less be on the. Receptive state to just perceive. That's what I'm trying to say.
Correct. I know I hear you. So if you sit down on a chair and relax, if I say like, you know, you're going. You're going to a massage or something, and you're sitting down and you know what, that feeling of relaxation when you act actively physically relax.
Yes.
But that actual physical relaxation is not of physicality. You know, the body cannot feel anything. It's an inert matter. What is happening there is. Your mind is opening up there. Okay. Where you're letting go of those thoughts which are clogging that natural space.
Yes. Because somewhere it feels like I think it's been occurring to me. If I. If I'm confused about what I am in this, then I. I have some idea of what I am and what. I'm always looking, then I'm always looking in the same space as for what I am. So it's kind of like I'm limiting myself. So I'm trying to not think about it so much and just. Just feel whatever it is that is. I don't know, I feel like it's like a muscle. I feel like the more. The more I'm turning my attention away from my thoughts, they're slowly kind of fizzling down. But yeah, it's an interesting.
It will go from what is called as thoughts to feelings. Absolutely correct. I totally, completely agree with that path. All I ask is, you see what is a feeling?
Yes, that's a really good point.
It made me.
It made me shattered all of what I had to re. Look at it again. So that was really good.
Because feelings are thoughts.
But somewhere in there I'm identified. It's not the problem that there's a filling. Yes, I'm looking in the wrong place for myself.
Okay, now let's go from feeling. Now that we've discarded feelings and we are back to thoughts, right?
Yes.
All there is is thoughts, you know, feeling or otherwise. Some. Some thoughts have no feelings. Somebody says, hey, my house was robbed. Some guy's house was robbed. You don't know them, you don't care. No feeling. Right? Same thing. It was your aunt's house. You'll be like, what? Right, Feeling. So again, forget about feeling. Only thoughts exist. Next question. Why do I have some thoughts that create feelings and not others? Because I'm identified with the idea of I. And I say, some of these are me and some of these are not me. And the ones that are not me. I don't care about the ones that are me. I care about. The things that happen with regards to those thoughts that I care about generate feelings which are also thoughts. So where is that question of identification here? You know, who is that I that you are searching for? You're searching for the self. You said who exactly is searching for which self? Right.
That's just another idea. It's very sticky.
Addicted to thinking, you know?
Yes.
That's all. So wait a minute. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Stop saying looking for myself and all. Again, you're giving meaning to ideas you're addicted to. Thinking means thinking is happening. That's it. If you stop the thinking process, then this whole thing stops because thought itself is the problem, which is thinking. There is nothing called thinking other than thoughts emerging, is it not? Because you're not the one thinking. Is this part clear or not? Because if you're the one thinking, you should be able to control it. Obviously you're not controlling it. Therefore, it's emergent. Something that is happening there. Your imagining is you. Like a dream.
Basically. There's no single version of you that.
Is.
Rigid and permanent. You're always changing with the now, with the. With the events happening around you.
So is there anything that is not changing?
Yep.
No. No. I'm asking you, is there anything that is not changing.
When the things that are, they already are?
No, no, no. Anything that is is changing only. But the thing is, there is nothing that is not permanent, is it not? So if nothing at all is permanent, then is there something that is not changing? No.
What I mean is things that are existing are continuing to exist. It's just our perception that we call something as a newborn or dying or.
In its primary things that. When you say things that exist continue to exist, that itself is not true. No, there is nothing that continues to exist as itself. That baby that's born is not same. The next millisecond and the next day and. Right. And it dies. So what is it that you say exists? Those things that you say exists, those itself don't exist. You know.
That was.
That was. No, Sorry, sorry.
I thought that I was muted.
I was talking. No worries.
I actually understood this concept better when I realized that what we are perceiving is just a version that has been presented by a hardware that cannot be updated. Our brain. So our senses are limited and the spectrum of colors that we can visibly perceive are limited. Everything that we have is limited. So how can you call it a permanent reality and the ultimate truth? So what you see is the. You cannot call it that.
So once this is clear, we move past it. What does it imply?
That there is nothing permanent.
Right. So now the question Is again back to, is there something permanent?
No.
And if you're saying no, then we are back to the square one. You see, there is something that is not changing. Because only against something can you say something has changed. How do you know something has changed? When you say everything is changing? Everything is changing. Nothing is permanent. How do you know that?
You compare it with the past.
So this process of comparison, is it not unchanging? This process of comparison is called perception. And perception itself doesn't change.
So observation is the only thing that is not changing, is it not?
Otherwise, what you see is the change. You know, how do you see that change? The thing that lets you see the change cannot change.
You know, that's some. That's an interesting way to put it.
No, no, it is the actual thing. We are seeing how change is perceived. How do you perceive something as changing? You see, If I say 1 degree centigrade, it is with comparison to zero. And what doesn't change is the zero. You understand, one and minus one.
Yes.
Are basically reference to zero. So the unchanging is the invisible zero.
And that is observation.
No, that is the background. For you to have observation, you need a background. The basis of observation. Means I observe. It has become 1, 2, 3, back to 1. But when you say 1, 2, 3, it's respect to zero. You know, that's what one means. Two means it's with a reference point. That reference point is what we call the ground. And then you observe. Observation is going on. But observation with respect to what? If you start seeing with respect to the moving relative itself, then you're in la la land because you'll never know the reality because you're seeing with respect to the relative. Only if you see with respect to the absolute can you see reality for what it is, is it not? If I'm on a train that's going at 55 miles an hour and I'm trying to measure the. And it's changing. The speed of the train is constantly changing. And I'm trying to measure the speed of another train which is going on the next track. Can I ever find out the correct velocity of that train? No, no. Because I myself am moving constantly and not knowing what is my own constant speed or absolute speed, I cannot tell the relative speed of any other object. Therefore, I must be stationary in order to measure something else.
Oh, okay.
Therefore I am the eternal witness. I am the eternal unchanging factor. Whether there is a dream, no dream, Whether there is any waking, no waking. I am the one that is saying, I awoke and not awoke and all that, is it not? The confusion happens because this consciousness principle or this awareness principle, it includes the intelligence principle. And it is what projects reality, so to speak, in a dream state or any other state. And we think it become that is reality, what is seen as opposed to what is actually reality.
Sa. So when we are observing, what is the stationary point?
The stationary point is the. The observer itself.
Okay, so you are the observer, but without the input of the eye.
In other words, only observation.
Only observation.
The observer and the observed are the same.
Exactly.
Wow.
Okay, Sam.
Therefore you can discard all the observed. Leaving what? If you leave everything observed, which means you leave everything that is in the past, you know, what is left is the now, which is pure observation.
Pure observation devoid of the observed.
The observed. Leave it at observed. You're left with observation without any observed. Whatever is observed only you see? And it has no bearing on the reality, which is observation, which is now. Why even for a minute, second, microsecond, nanosecond bother about the past? Tell me that is true. If one is after the unchanging now, it is there. The now never changes. Everything else changes, you see?
And all you do is cloud yourself with the changing. Yes.
In seeking something, you're looking at something permanent. You know, I want some. I'm seeking something permanent. Only that permanent part you forget to say. And you cannot find anything permanent because there is nothing permanent. Because you are the very permanent thing that's all finished. Without you. Can there be anything? Is there any meaning in that? There is something without me. What does that mean? It has no meaning. To whom will it have meaning?
Yeah, seeking perfection is just. It's pointless.
Perfection is seeked as an object and it cannot be found because it's not nothing. Isn't. The objects are all not real, you know?
And if you are satisfied with something that you call perfect, then you are mistaken.
Yes, it is perfect. Or unhappiness or happiness, or any object is a mistake only. And ultimately you can find perfection because there is nothing to be found that is better than what is. Therefore, when you stop seeking for something better, you have found perfection. You see, there's nothing to be improved. That state is called perfection, which is the natural state. Nothing to change, nothing to improve. It is perfect. What else you call perfect? You see, one has to become clear on these words. These words are very confusing, as if they are something special. But perfect means the most ordinary thing. Because nothing has to change in that moment.
Oh, perfect. The most ordinary thing.
Yes, because nothing has to change. And it's perfect because if it's something special, then it cannot be perfect because it's something special. It's not perfect. You see?
Yeah.
Absolutely. Perfect means what? Absolute. Only in every way, it is absolute. Then it is perfection. Otherwise it's a relative thing and it cannot be perfect. Therefore, the only absolute can be perfect. And we have already discovered the absolute, which is the now.
Yep.
So where is the question of seeking perfection somewhere? When you say you are perfect, that doesn't mean you as an individual. That is the imperfection. And trying to become perfect as an individual is called suffering.
Yes, The now is perfect. You. You can interpret it in a million ways. You can set a thousand levers on it. It's perfect, it's tangible, it's flexible.
It is tangible. You see, this is the thing. It is the most. It is the only thing. There's nothing other than the now. It is what is there actually. So that feeling which we are all looking for is that there's no need to look for anything. What is there is the now, the actual thing. So we are ourselves putting name and form and labels, and we are also.
Calling it imperfect and seeking something, some weird version of it that we have to justify to ourselves that, yes, this is the signature of perfection.
That's it. Where is the questions? Nice. I think this was a nice one. Good one for the New year.
Yes, this was. It refreshed a few topics that.
Yeah.
And it introduced something new to me as well.
