Top 5 Supplements for Fat Loss (that ACTUALLY work)

Josh Heverly covers five supplements for fat loss: CoQ10 and Vitamin D for mitochondrial health, Apple Cider Vinegar to lower post-meal glucose, Alpha-Lipoic Acid as an antioxidant that activates AMPK, and Caffeine as an appetite suppressant. He emphasizes these only work with solid diet, training, and mindset.

If you're serious about being healthy, fat loss, visceral fat loss, supplements can be one of the best things for you, but they can also be a colossal waste of money. So I'm going to go through my top 5 that actually improve your energy, help you with fat loss, help you improve your overall health. I like to get straight to the point, so let's get right into it. Starting with my number 1 overall supplement is CoQ10. While this might not be a fat loss supplement, it is one of the best things that you can do for your overall health. CoQ10 aids the electron transport chain, which directly increases the overall product activity of the mitochondria within the cells. Now, whenever you can do anything like that, it improves every single mechanism in your body, including fat loss. And more than that, it helps increase your energy, lower your inflammation, and actually affects every single mechanism in your body because they all break down to the cells and the mitochondria. CoQ10 is like a superpower for your mitochondria. If you've been trying to lose weight for a while, doing the 10,000 steps, eating properly, and not seeing results, there's a very high likelihood that your mitochondria are inflamed and not working properly. And that comes down to that electron transport chain. CoQ10 helps aid that process and makes everything run smoother. In a controlled study where patients were taking 300 milligrams of CoQ10 for 40 days, CoQ10 significantly improved that electron transport chain, and because of that, mitochondrial function improved, inflammation went down, and oxidative stress all went down. Now those are 3 of the biggest levers that you can pull for your health, so if CoQ10 did it for them, it could do it for you too. And in another meta-analysis of over 300 people, CoQ10 significantly lowered inflammation and adiponectin. Adiponectin is a hormone that It correlates to how well your body regulates fat and insulin. And when you can control your insulin, fat loss becomes so much easier. The main thing that I want you to take away from this supplement specifically is that everything comes down to the mitochondria, the cells. CoQ10 helps aid that process, specifically with the electron transport chain. So when you can improve that function, you improve everything else downstream. Recommended supplementation would be between 600 to 1,200 milligrams a day, but consult with your doctor. Number 2, and arguably my personal favorite, is vitamin D. Vitamin D is really a hormone, but because we can take it orally, they call it a supplement. It's actually produced in our own body, and everybody knows that it comes from the sun. It is a critical hormone for our body. Everybody needs it, but the issue is a lot of people are deficient. In a randomized controlled trial of 50 overweight people who took an average of 7,000 IU vitamin D per day, it was shown to measurably lower their waist circumference, hip circumference, and BMI. So how could a vitamin that's typically correlated with immune function and bone health Actually help you lose weight? Well, it's not that vitamin D melts fat specifically, but fat cells do have vitamin D receptors on them. And when you're deficient in vitamin D, a hormone called PTH rises, and that hormone specifically tells fat cells to hold onto more calcium and more fat with it. Meaning when you're deficient in vitamin D, you hold onto more fat because of that PTH hormone. So when you can fix the deficiency, you actually fix that symptom. But similar to CoQ10, vitamin D is deeply correlated with the mitochondria and cell health. And even if you're not deficient, vitamin D is one of the best things to supplement with. For the average person, 4,000 IU per day is a good place to start, but if you are deficient, up to 10,000 IU per day can be good. But still consult with your doctor. Number 3, apple cider vinegar. In a 2017 meta-analysis of controlled trials, apple cider vinegar measurably lowered insulin and blood glucose response after meals. A separate 2021 meta-analysis of 9 random trials found that ACV actually lowered fasting blood sugar and cholesterol. So here's what ACV is actually doing within your body. When you eat a big carb-heavy meal, your insulin and blood sugar spike, and your body's only job is to bring that down. And acetic acid, which is in ACV, attacks that from 2 directions. It slows down how much glucose your liver is dumping into your blood in the first place, and it activates an enzyme called AMPK, which is the exact same pathway that your muscles use to pull glucose out of the blood when you're training. Just 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before your most carb-heavy meal has been shown to significantly reduce that blood sugar and insulin response. And again, when you can control blood sugar and insulin, You control fat loss. And on top of that, a personal anecdote of mine: apple cider vinegar actually helped cure my acid reflux. I had acid reflux for about 1.5 to 2 years, and it was honestly debilitating. After every meal, every time I woke up, my throat would hurt so bad because the acid reflux would come up, and there was nothing I could do about it. I went to doctors, I got scans, I even had a tube stuck down my throat all the way into my stomach to look for ulcers. Nothing came back. What they told me to do was take a pill to reduce the acid reflux. And did it work? Barely, but not really. This apple cider vinegar, taking about half a shot to 2 tablespoons before my biggest meal, cured my acid reflux. Acid reflux can stem from a few different things, whether it's too much acid, too little acid, or a flap in your stomach not closing properly. But for me, I presume that it was too little acid, and the apple cider vinegar helped fix that. So if you struggle with acid reflux, please give it a try and let me know if that helps. But on to number 4, alpha lipoic acid. Alpha lipoic acid is a natural antioxidant compound, and it has similar effects to the CoQ10, meaning it helps your cells work more efficiently by clearing out free radicals. Alpha lipoic acid is one of the best things that you can do for your mitochondrial and cell health. And like I mentioned before, every mechanism in your body breaks down to how well the cells are actually working. So when you can lower your inflammation, that makes every single process in your body run smoother, specifically fat loss. But it's more than just fat loss as well. Energy, skin health, digestion— literally every single mechanism in your body comes down to the inflammation. And on top of that, inflammation specifically within the cells are correlated to every single disease. So anytime that you can reduce your bodily inflammation, it is a phenomenal thing for you to do. And on top of that, a meta-analysis of 10 controlled trials of people taking ALA, it actually showed that they lost a significant amount of weight and lowered their BMI more than the placebo group. And a larger analysis pooling even more people together found the same results. And similar to the other supplements, it's not that it's directly pulling fat off of your body. That's not how any supplement works for that matter. And if anyone tells you that's what they do, then run. Alpha-lipoic acid uses the same pathway that insulin uses to pull glucose into the cells. Researchers actually call it an insulin mimetic. It also activates AMPK, the same enzyme that we talked about with apple cider vinegar. This tells your body to use fat for fuel instead of storing Same dose as CoQ10, 600 to 1,200 milligrams a day, but take it first thing in the morning before you have any food. As always, consult with your doctor. And number 5, what you're probably already drinking on a daily basis is caffeine, but the biggest thing is how and when you have it. It's shown that caffeine naturally suppresses your appetite, but it's also been shown to boost your metabolism and autophagy by up to 10%. So specifically, when you have black coffee or caffeine on an empty stomach in the morning, it can actually boost that metabolism. But on top of that, Since it is a natural appetite suppressant, it helps you eat less food. So boosting your metabolism, eating less food, that's the best case scenario for burning fat. And those effects work even better if you use that training fasted as well. That way you're really tapping into the fat storage, boosting your metabolism, you're not as hungry, the results will be so effortless. So those are my top 5 supplements for fat loss, overall health, energy, longevity, and more. As I said before, if anybody tells you that a supplement directly burns fat, Don't listen to them and run the other direction. Supplements don't work like that, and it's in the name. It's made to supplement what you're already doing. So do your best to eat whole foods, walk, be active, and train really, really hard. Once you get the biggest levers down, like eating properly, the whole foods, training, walking, being more active overall, that's when the supplements actually have the biggest results. And you can believe me on this because I've got guys like Vinci, Christian, Dan, Dom, Issei, and way more that got the results without even taking the supplements. All these guys had 15+ pounds to lose and dangerous levels of visceral fat. I mean, look at my client Issei. Do you see the belly on that? That's the inflammation. That's the visceral fat that's protruding that belly. And if you have that and you're watching this hoping that supplements will fix that issue, I'm sorry to tell you, but they won't. Like I said, they're great to supplement but not to give you the results that you're after. You have to fix the root cause, the training, the nutrition, and the mindset is the biggest thing. I want you to check this. How many YouTube videos, Instagram videos have you saved on fat loss supplements and getting in shape? And tell me, have you actually implemented them? If you have, then great job. But I'm assuming if you're watching this video, you probably haven't, and it's time to make a change.
