Samir Gardner has taken cold showers for over a year, starting each one with a blast of ice water even in Canadian winters. The first 15 seconds hurt, then it eases. He credits the habit with boosting his mood and energy, killing his fear of cold, and building discipline that carries into his workouts.

Now look, I've been taking cold showers for a long-ass time. It's been plus 1 year. I started in the summer of 2020 taking cold showers, and bro, I've, I've grown a lot just because of cold showers. I can tell you right now. Now cold showers is just basically the synonym of discomfort. It's the synonym of uncomfortable. It's the synonym of against the comfort zone, basically. Now I'm not against cold, I'm not against hot showers. I'm— sometimes I take hot showers, but I still take my cold shower first. I take my cold shower first, and if I want to take a shower, I may take it after in the day. I know 2 showers is dumb, but like, I don't know, like, I'll just be relaxing in the shower. But look, cold showers, like, I've been consistent. I live in Canada, right? And it's cold, like, in the winter, and I still remain consistent. Like, there's no excuse. There's literally no excuse. I still remain consistent after my workout, go take my cold shower, or maybe after my run or something. And bro, it's— yeah, I want to skip cold showers sometimes, but maybe in the past I skipped sometimes, but like most of the times I'm like, nah, I cannot go a day without cold showers. So like, to be honest, bro, you know what I gained and what I think like is I can't say, like, what I've gained that I think has so much value is I gain the ability of, like, not overthinking before doing something hard, okay? So for example, when I'm working out, I don't overthink that I'm gonna work out. I don't be like, oh no, I don't want to work out, because it's the same for cold showers. If you're just listening to your feelings, you're never gonna go, bro. You're never gonna go. You'll need motivation speech. You only, like, some purpose or something. But bro, cold showers, I just— oh, but like, time— people gotta understand this. When you do, when you do things, okay, just focus on doing that. Just, just focus on doing that thing. Just focus on going and going to the cold shower. Don't focus on taking, on taking, uh, 30 more showers in the next 30 days. No, bro, just think about, okay, I'm gonna go in the cold shower. Don't think about, oh, I'm gonna suffer like this. Like, to be honest, what also I learned is like after like 15 seconds of the cold shower, like the pain is gone. In the first 15 seconds, like it's cold and everything, but then your whole body touches the water, you're like, okay, like it's cool, like I can stay there. Not forever, but I can stay there. And what is really important from the lesson I learned is Really, like, you really gain like the ability of not like caring, caring like about your feelings, not, not caring like, oh, you're numb or something, but you don't care about like, oh, I don't want to go into the shower because you're still going to go. You're not going to think, oh, I don't want to go because you know you got to go to the cold shower. So you're going to go to the cold shower. So you grow from that because you're consistently in this sort of like discomfort zone. I've been pretty much doing like the same thing for my workouts. I, I know I gotta work out, so I work out even though I don't want to work out, even though I say I feel tired. And that's how I don't even feel tired anymore because I know I gotta work out, so I gotta give my body energy, to be honest. So you really gotta understand this, you gotta sort of like not listen to your feelings and get used to not listening to your feelings. It might seem hard, but bro, it's one of the best things you can do because I've remained consistent in my workouts for so long now. Like, I used to, for example, go like 3 days a week. Now I go, if I do 5 days a week, I'm gonna do 5 days a week. If I do 6 days a week, I'm gonna do 6 days a week because I know I got to. And I'm not listening to my feelings. Like in the cold shower, okay, cold shower is like, to be honest, the benefit I just told y'all is the most underrated. But there's also other benefits, like your mood goes up every time you take a cold shower, bro. I remember the first time I I was in the cold, so I was, I don't know, I felt happy. Like, it's maybe serotonin or something, my hormones, I don't know. But bro, I felt happy, like my mood was up. Uh, also one of the things I realized is in the hot, like in the hot, uh, not hot, but in the cold temperatures, I don't feel as cold as I was before. People next to me be like, why, how can you be like just in a hoodie when they're wearing like their hats, their their, uh, you know, all, all their equipment, like, or other clothing and everything. And I just be like, it's not even that cool, to be honest. It literally is not, bro. I think there's also many other ways to grow in, like, this comfort zone and everything. You can do running, you can do workouts, you can do a lot of things, to be honest. You can do things you fear. You don't need to take cold showers, bro. You don't need to. There's also health benefits, but I'm not going to talk about this, you know, with the White Cells, I think, or I don't remember. But I know like the cold, if you can embrace something like hard like this, I mean, you're gonna grow strong, I swear. Like I've been progress just because of this. If you can embrace like Wim Hof, embrace the cold temperature, bro, like that's a superpower. Imagine if you can go outside and just be shirtless in the winter. That's, that can be my goal. I can like aim for that, to be honest. Maybe not just, but just cold shower. I may take ice baths. I'm gonna look too. I'm gonna look, bro. But just know, like, it gives you energy a lot. Like, you feel more energetic than if you were taking a shower. But a shower got also their benefits, okay? Also got their benefits. So I'm not gonna trash talk showers. I love showers. I love cold showers, okay? So that's it for the video. Hope y'all like, take comment, share, subscribe, and like.
