I Travelled 15 Countries, Here’s What I Learned About Porn

Samir Gardner traveled 15 countries and connected what he saw to quitting porn. In Asia he noticed work didn't define self-worth. In Africa, extreme poverty showed him problems are relative. Europe's rebuilt cities and Australia's health culture proved environment rewires what feels normal and possible.
Chapters
Last year I traveled to 15 different countries and it really changed the way I see life drastically. It showed me how just narrow my old life was. And it actually taught me things about quitting porn that I was able to use in my personal life, as well as the people that I coach to give them a new perspective. So I'll go over 5 continents and what they each taught me about quitting porn so that you can actually apply this in your life. So we'll start off with the first continent and my favorite continent personally, which is Asia. In Asia, I've been able to go to Dubai, to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and a few more countries. And what I've seen with my own eyes is that people here live with more calm. They're not so stressed about life. And here I'm talking specifically about countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. They don't have the money, but they do not seem stressed about getting more money. They're not doing well financially, They're struggling, but I see people having multiple kids, having a big family, being good role models for their children despite not being successful according to our own Western standards. They also didn't have the same ideologies like we do in the West. One of the biggest ones that actually ruins people's lives is that they do not tie work to their worth. They don't think because I don't have X amount of money in my bank account, Therefore, I'm not as valuable. Therefore, I'm— I shouldn't feel confident. In the West, we're told the more you achieve, the more valuable you are to other people, the more women are going to like you, the more other people are going to respect you. And sure, that is true to a certain extent, but that's because that's the narrative in the West. But in Asia, that's not the narrative. I remember being in Bali, talking with the locals, and they would never ever ask me, What do I do for work? They just wanted to invite me for a coffee, to spend time with me. Whilst in the West, that's the first question you ask: What do you do for work? How good is your work? And that's something personally I preach: that your work doesn't determine your worth. It's not because you haven't achieved anything that you're not worthy or that you're not valuable. That's something that came actually from the 1800s in America, and then it was adopted into the capitalistic. Ideology which we have today. Now on the flip side, Dubai, I only went there for 1 or 2 days, and in that short amount of time, I was invited to a villa of someone that was super successful, someone making a lot of money, traveling the world, basically successful according to Western standards, and he was also very young. So I realized that this is his normal, and I was invited to a dinner right before that with different successful business owners, and And they were telling me about what they were doing business-wise, numbers and their projects. And I realized that in their minds, that was their normal, making that amount of money, living that kind of lifestyle. Not saying that we should strive or aspire to achieve the same things. It taught me that, okay, this is their normal. And because of that, they act according to their normal. Just like in Asia, for them, their average salary is super low. It can be $200 per month depending on the country, up to $500 per month as the average salary, and that's their normal. But in Dubai, it was more like $100,000 per month was their normal. And it's not like life is all about money, but they really showed me that it's not about working harder, it's about exposing yourself to something new. Because the moment you expose yourself to something new, you realize that this is actually possible, whether it be to make that amount of money, whether it be to live a stress-free life Not making much money, still building a family like the Asians do. Well, what it taught me about quitting porn is that what you expose yourself to will become your reality. If you constantly expose yourself to NoFap and just how hard quitting porn is, how how you need to just fight it with willpower, discipline, and it should be a struggle, and you're addicted, then that will become your reality. You will always struggle. But the moment you expose yourself to, for example, the effortless method, and you realize that. Quitting porn doesn't have to be a battle to be fought for the rest of your life, but rather you can actually quit effortlessly. You can actually remove the desire at the root, and then you expose yourself to that new way, that new approach. You realize that can become a reality too. Listen to Africa. In Africa, I've only been to Morocco and South Africa, and I want to talk about South Africa specifically because Morocco was a country that I was accustomed to as I am half Moroccan myself and I'm half Canadian. In South Africa, I've literally witnessed death in front of my own eyes. The laws there are super lax. There's no strict law like you find in Asia or in Europe. Basically, you can do anything you want. I saw a guy on the side of the street literally dead. Yeah, I seen his body. That was the first time I ever saw someone dead because he was walking on the side of the highway. It's completely illegal to walk on the side of a highway in Canada, so he got hit by a car and he died. And I saw extreme poverty. Obviously, I wasn't in those environments, but I saw the people, I saw the locals living there under like just small little houses made of like metals and anything basically, whilst other people were living in nice houses just 5 minutes away in a nice neighborhood. I talked to people that just got out of jail because they were stealing, and they were just living on the side of the street asking people for help, asking people for money. And then the day after that, I would go to Virgin, which is a popular chain of gyms that you find everywhere in the world, with people that just had wealth and some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen in my entire life. I believe South Africa is the most beautiful country on earth. And what it taught me was not just to be grateful— obviously that was a big thing— But also that problems in your life, the stress of daily life and hardships or challenges are only as hard as the biggest challenge or problem you face in your life. So for these people to live in extreme poverty, not to really have much food was basically their biggest problem. And it stresses them out the same way we are stressed out about much smaller problems in our day-to-day life. Like for example, getting fired from a job. Sometimes can feel so overwhelming that we literally think that this is the biggest problem that a human can experience. But when you see these people literally starving for food, living in dangerous conditions, fighting, physically fighting with each other, you'd think that, you realize that for these people, getting fired from a job wouldn't even be something that they would be stressed about. And that's the thing. When you make quitting porn into a huge monster, you make it like the biggest problem, It then feels bigger than you. It becomes a thing that you try your hardest to quit. But the moment there's something that's bigger than that, like for example, maybe you start a business, maybe you get closer to God and you realize the true importance of that, and you make that like your problem, your challenge, the thing you're focused on, then quitting porn becomes much smaller and it feels easier to tackle because it's not bigger than you. Now lesson 3, Europe is all about history, architecture. I've been to Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, France, and I was actually inspired by the things that I saw, whether it be Lake Como, which just looked amazing, one of the most beautiful places, or the famous Acropolis in Greece that we learn about in school. What it taught me is that all of these things had to be built and that there was a story behind these cities and that they started off struggling to then winning. And it just teaches you a basic thing about life, that your current life situation Does not determine how you're going to end up, and that if you have a vision, if you have something that you're striving towards, something meaningful, that's when you'll start working towards something bigger. And after a few years, you will see results in your life. I still remember being in Spain for the first time. It was a solo trip. I was by myself, and I just started thinking of my future. I was inspired, wanted to build a family, getting married, providing. And now I'm actually very close to that goal. And I was super inspired. I remember just investing into a fitness coach so I can build my body and become a better example for other people out of that. And then I would go back in my hotel and just work on my laptop on bigger projects like my book. And overall, it taught me that, okay, life is not just about quitting porn, but about becoming the man that you aspire yourself to be. The man that God designed you to be. The faithful husband, provider, a great father figure, able model for other people, and a successful man. That's what you should strive towards. Not just quitting porn, but who you want to become as a byproduct of quitting porn. Now, continent number four, Australia. Of course, that's not the name of the continent, but that's where I've been. I only went there for three or four days. I was in Sydney, and it was one of my favorite cities on earth. It reminded me of Canada, but A healthier version, a more active version. All of everyone there, the normal was to go out, to go for a run, or to walk besides the beach, to work out, to overall train, and to eat healthy. Everywhere I would go, the cafe would just serve some of the healthiest foods on earth. And I saw that basically that was their normal, just like we talked about Asia. For them, their normal was being in such good shape, being so healthy, living an active lifestyle. And it really shows again that what you keep exposing yourself to shapes what you think is possible. That overall just inspired me again to expose myself to new perspectives, new possibilities. And it's the same thing with quitting porn. When you do not expose yourself to a new perspective, when you just do the same technique over and over again, of course, It's not going to work. As the famous quote says, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. And most people are stuck with that when it comes to quitting porn. Now the last and final continent, my continent, North America. I've not been yet to South America, God willing maybe in the future. But in North America, I've went in Canada to Toronto where I met one of my students and learning more about him in real life. Really taught me that what you see on the internet is not reality, because I really saw a human being behind what I coach—not just someone that you have Zoom meetings with. Going to America, going to states like California, Nevada, New York, Boston. Boston was actually the first time that I ever met with a client of mine, and he took me around the city. Was such a great experience. He showed me Harvard. He showed me. He took me to the restaurants. And I coached him in real life. It was one of the most meaningful things I have done in my life, to just coach someone in real life. And I saw that these students of mine, these clients, what they were struggling with, their goals and aspirations, which was a huge thing I always like to talk about with people in real life when I talk to them. And that I realized that it's very important that we don't just focus on quitting porn, but that we, yes, Try to quit porn, and we have their attention, and we try our best. We maybe watch these types of videos, maybe we read a book, but at the same time, we do not give up on our lives. We still strive towards bigger things. We still try to improve our lives. We go to the gym, we work on our character, our leadership, we read different books. We need to still take action and put ourselves in uncomfortable situations, take on opportunities, start a project, because that's what makes life more meaningful, and therefore it will also help you when it comes to quitting porn. But look, obviously you don't need to travel to quit porn, but it really taught me so many things that I hope you can actually apply in your life. And if you want more help with this, I have a link in the description of this video. You can book a call with me so that you can actually quit porn once and for all and overall become the man that you aspire yourself to be, because that's the goal at the end of the day. It's not just to quit porn, but to live that life, to become that man. And I'll see you guys in the next video.
