get off your phone the world is your playground

A speaker argues that smartphones, video games, and streaming damage dopamine pathways, shorten attention spans, and erode social skills. He cites Irresistible on how distracted parents model the behavior for kids, and recommends journaling, therapy, and a dopamine detox to reclaim real-world connections.

Get off your phone. The world is your playground, bro. Literally, most of us literally spend more time on technology than just facing real life. And technology, I just mean like screen time, just screen time, bro. And you know, like, if we just look like at a school child day in their life. It's basically one-third at school, one-third at sleeping, and one-third at media and smartphone and everything. Literally, bro, a school child. Do you know if you spend 8 hours a day on your— on screen time? Let's say you, you play video games and then you go on social media and then you watch videos. Do you know if like you spend 8 hours in total every day for your life, for the rest of your life? Well, you'll waste like more than 20 years of your life, bro. That's too much. I even like wasting like a year of your life, I think it's too much for no reason, for you staring at a screen. Our dopamine receptors are fucked up. Our attention span has been so low. Our social skills are trash. We don't even spend time in nature anymore. We, the parents, are growing more and more distracted. Uh, most of the child don't even get love from the parents just because they're simply distracted. Now, now look, I'm reading a book called Irresistible. Well, that's probably why I'm making this video right now. And great book. Uh, what he said in the book is because He showed like sort of like a study or an experience where someone kind of like interviewed some like 13— there was a 7-year-old and like 13-year-old, things like this. And they were like sort of like complaining about what their parents did, how the parents acted with them. You know what their parents did? They did just like most of today's parents. You just— they were like 7 years old, bro. She's actually 7 years old and she asked her parents like, oh, uh, can we play, Mommy? And she's like, uh, um, I need to check work. Like, and that's what— like, it's so sad because it's literally a 7-year-old thing. Like, uh, telling your parents like, like, I want to play or I want to have fun. And she says like, um, but my parents are always on on their iPad, and I want to tell them that like the world is not like all about technology. And literally a 7 or 13-year-old said that. Literally, bro. Yes, and she's more right like than anything. Like if I'm gonna probably make a video like stop looking at your phone when someone is talking to you. What happens is Like he said in the book, um, distracted parents cultivate distracted children because they pretty much teach them the same thing. It's why people say like, if your parents were, uh, you know, if you did— the way you grew up is basically going to be the way you're going to treat other people. And it's the truth. It's literally the truth. Like, it's sad, but we either got to be conscious about it or we just be unconscious and don't do anything. And that's— that goes for you, that doesn't go for like everyone, okay? Like sleep, sleep has never been this worse forever, bro. Like no, I'm not trying to like compare with like the '90s or something, but just think about people don't even sleep, but it's like they have this sort of like excuse of, oh yeah, because I gotta work. Like one of the things I used to say like for school was like, oh yeah, school doesn't— like many, many children was like, oh, school doesn't want you to sleep. Like school doesn't let you sleep for 8 hours a day. Like they said, oh, the study says you need 8 hours a day, but school be like, no. Like what? No, it's not school, bro. It's literally you. Literally, bro. I was saying the same thing, but The night before sleeping, always before sleeping, I was literally on my iPad for like 3 hours, bro. And I didn't sleep until like my eyes closed by themselves, basically. Like, people like to say this dumb excuse, oh, I don't have time to work, I don't, I don't, I don't have time to sleep because, you know, I gotta get to work. But what were you doing like for 3 hours? Because Thinking about it, like, bro, if you're just watching a TV show or something, and that's not like— I know it's not productive, and that's not the point, but when you're watching TV, so just emotionless, not even reacting, or not even like surprised, you just sometimes, sometimes you smile, sometimes you do like, bro, that's meaningless as fuck, bro. That's meaningless as fuck. I never seen something as meaningless as just staring on my phone Like this, or a TV. Even I had to drop Netflix. I was watching like 2 hours of Netflix and I had to drop it. And you know what, wanna know the crazy part is I felt attached to it. I felt like I couldn't let go because I was like, oh, but I want to finish this thing. And you know, and then I'm gonna delete Netflix. Oh, I'm gonna miss this thing if I just read it instead. And I'm gonna miss like the sounds of the like the episodes and everything. I'm gonna miss like the voices of the characters. I was like, bro, I'm just attached to Netflix, not gonna stay like this for my whole life, bro. I'm just— I just deleted it. I'm not gonna use it anymore, except not on my own, not on my own, bro. Literally, bro, that shit is meaningless. I don't know what is your meaning of life, but I see people sort of like go to this thing for many, many reasons. I'm gonna go deep, but first of all, many people go for, you know, kinda like what we call dopamine or the comfort, but that's like too simple to explain and you probably know why. Like, yes, you go on technology, it's fun. Like, it's fun for your brain because your brain gets all this dopamine. Like, it's not even technology, it's drugs, it's, it's like anything, bro. Like, literally, literally, bro, people get obsessed with things. Like, um, you know, if we stop like using dope, like if we reduce our dopamine intake— that's— I don't want to say dopamine detox a thousand times in every videos, but if you can reduce your dopamine intake life is better even though you don't get stimulated. Because we associate stimulation with like feeling good, you know, happiness. We're like, oh, let me take a break and, and let me take a break and have some pleasure because I've worked hard, you know. Let me have some pleasure. Oh yeah, let me go eat McDonald's because, you know, I've been working for 8 hours a day. But that doesn't— that's it. That actually makes it worse. That's kind of like what an addiction is. I don't want to say an addiction because first of all, it's not something— it's not a mental problem. You know, a lot of people see drugs as people with like mental problems that are different from the part— from the rest of humanity. But no, they're just normal humans. They're normal humans. So Bro, we got to change, like, like the root cause. Okay, let me go to deep, deep, deep, deep root cause. Okay, it might be just the fact that you grew up with things that affected you, you know. That might be like abusive parents, that might be you lacking social, uh, you lacking social confidence, it might be you It might be you like lacking love from your parents, might be you not getting attention from your parents, or basically the environment. The environment is the root cause of this problem, okay? If you have a bad environment, then what's, what's gonna happen? Because I always like to look at it at like tribes, okay? A tribe living in a forest is probably has the probability of him like giving more love in and sort of like more care for his children is way higher than someone in this society because there's way too many distractions. Technology, for example, is one of the big— and that's one of the big— I'm trying to like really put down in your mind, but technology, just take a look at the technology. If we didn't have technology, right, we would, we would have been quote-unquote bored, okay? If we didn't have drugs, if we didn't have anything like internet, drugs, anything that's stimulating, what would have we been doing? What? Like, ask this yourself. I'm not gonna give you the answer, but I feel like our life is gonna be— like, people think, oh, it's boring, so like, life is trash and everything. No, bro. Life is gonna be— you're gonna give like meaning to the little things and you're gonna have so much fun for the little things. You're gonna be optimistic and sort of like, I don't know, like just optimistic for the little things, bro. You growing your child, you're gonna take it way more seriously if you don't have distractions, because what else do you gotta do? Like, it's crazy, bro, but Uh, talking about the deep root cause, bro, it might be you and your child, bro. You gotta journal about this. You gotta know like where does it come from. Because me, for example, I used to play video games like deeply, like video games a lot. But you know, because I was someone who was like really not confident and I was always like the nice guy and like people like kind of, you know, um, take advantage of me and like insult me and everything. So That's what like made me always go back to video games because it feels like your safe spot, bro. It feels like your safe spot. You know, some people might go to social media to get the validation because they didn't get love from their parents back then. You gotta look back at those things, okay? Really gotta look back at those things. You want to like do things like maybe journaling. You want to do new things, okay? Because in this book like irresistible. He gave an example of there was a guy who was like, I don't know, like 18 or something, and he, he didn't want to— like, he started playing video games. And what you gotta understand is, is if you're lonely, right, then you're in the trap of, um, you know, video games basically, or You can't say addiction, okay? Because that's gonna start like you starting to be way— not way, but you're gonna be addicted to that thing. Now, I don't want to say like addicted like it's something like the worst thing of all, but for example, in this book, this guy didn't have like much— he didn't have love from his dad because his dad always worked all day and he never saw his dad. And he didn't know that caused him to always binge, like, on video games, always be on video games for— he said, like, he played for like 20 hours a day. Because what you gotta understand is on video games, if you don't have a social life in real life, then on video games you can have one and sort of like have this fulfillment of you in a tribe, basically you in a tribe trying to like, you know, playing quests and having fun with like friends, quote unquote. That's what happens with video games. If you don't get the love from your parents, let's say, then you might go back, you might go to Instagram to get some likes and some validation. That's how it works. Please look back at that problem if you want to solve this. Start journaling, can be good. Maybe even get therapy. Maybe like look back, just look back at the problem, okay? Because you don't want to live a life like driven by technology or driven by screens.
