How to remove the self-image of an addict (NoFap)

Samir Gardner argues addiction is a self-image you adopt, not a disease. He says dropping the addict label and replacing it with a clear 10-year vision lets people quit porn in days, without willpower. The reframing works because belief shapes behavior.

If you're confused about how to actually get rid of your addict self-image, then let me explain how you can actually do it very, very easy. Okay, first of all, let's just get into it. Okay, first thing first, we need to understand that first of all, addiction doesn't exist. Okay, and this is what a lot of people have a hard time understanding. Some people, it's very easy for them, but the word addiction is not something that exists. You know, we cannot scan It's not a disease, right? It's not inside of your body just like cancer would be if you had cancer, right? There's no such thing as addiction. It's only a concept that's been used to describe quote-unquote problems, which became a self-fulfilling prophecy. So what I mean by that is addiction of itself, you cannot prove that it exists because it doesn't exist, right? It didn't exist before the 1800s. Now the thing is, if you understand the history behind addiction, you'll realize that addiction is not a real thing, but rather it's something that they've been using in order to create treatments and do other things for their own benefits when it comes to the treatment industry and other industries. Okay, so addiction doesn't exist. Okay, and if you want to understand this, then go on my YouTube. You know, I talk about this all of the time, but, um, there's also videos on my Instagram where I talk why addiction doesn't exist. But look, I'll, I'll just give you a bit, um, a bit of knowledge so that you can understand that. Okay, Addiction doesn't exist because— I mean, just ask yourself this, right? Because a lot of people think addiction is something where you have no control over your porn or alcohol or drug consumption, where you cannot do anything about it, and you do it even though you're late to work and all of those things, right? Which are behaviors that we actually do with any— I mean, we actually do the same thing with certain behaviors, right? Sometimes we play a specific sport and we're late to work because of that. Sometimes we might go and play basketball and it's like we were supposed to play for 1 hour, we play for like 4 hours, right? So it's not like, you know, when we say, oh, you're out of control, that's why you're addicted, like that doesn't make sense, okay? But just ask yourself this, if I gave you $1 million, but you couldn't watch porn for another second of your life, would you really, okay, would you really end up losing control and end up watching porn because you have no control over your own self and you have urges that are too strong for you and all of those things? No, and the reality is you wouldn't even struggle with it. You wouldn't have a problem of discipline. There will be no such thing as discipline because you will be so convinced that the $1 million is way better than watching porn that you will not even feel like watching porn anymore. Yeah, maybe a bit in the beginning, but nothing compared to how you feel about watching porn right now if you do, okay? So that's the first thing. Second thing, self-image, okay? Self-image. What we need to understand is that it can be based on the truth, it can be based on falsehood. And what I mean by that is just because you believe in something doesn't mean that it's actually true. So that's why it's extremely and extremely important that you actually understand what is the truth. Because if you think that addiction is real, then obviously if you've been watching porn and you've been told that, you know, it's an addiction and that you're an addict, then yes, you're going to have that self-image, okay? So what we got to understand, also is the history behind that self-image. You first were watching porn when you were a kid, probably, right? And you know, let's be honest, right? You enjoyed it. You actually liked it, right? Even though it's fake pleasure, we all know it. Now you enjoyed it. And then at a certain point, you probably came into like the self-improvement space like I did, and you started like, you know, watching videos about like improving yourself, improving your physique, improving your life, improving your habits, all of those things, right? Which is amazing. Now you came across NoFap, and then NoFap, you know, you tried it at first and you felt so good, and then you, you know, you did it again because you kept on watching porn. You felt shame, you felt guilt, and you felt like very bad about like every single time that you watch porn. So what we need to understand is that you didn't feel bad about watching porn when you were watching porn, you know, like, like when you were a kid, for example, and you didn't know about NoFap. But the moment you know about NoFap is the moment you started watching porn and feeling a lot of shame about it, right? But also that's the moment where you actually became an addict. That's the moment we actually became someone that, you know, was kind of like forced to watch porn, okay? Because I see this all of the time. People that don't know any of the concepts of NoFap, such as addiction, such as self-image of an addict, such as dopamine circuitry or all of those things. They just quit porn. I've seen many of them at that point where they just— the moment that they want to quit porn because, for example, for faith reasons, or maybe for their own sake, for their own benefit, they just quit. And it's not a struggle for them. They just leave it behind. Just like, you know, if you decide to stop playing video games, you just leave video games behind and never come back to it, right? Maybe you'll play once or twice every few years, but other than that, you don't play, right? So what we need to understand is that the self-image doesn't come from you. It doesn't come from your own beliefs. I mean, obviously it is your beliefs, but it comes initially from the NoFap space, which has been brainwashing us into thinking that there's a thing called addiction. There's like a disease that you now have, and now you need to act according to that. Okay, so let me just explain what happens. Let me just sit down for 2 seconds. So if you, okay, If you have, if you believe in something, okay, and this is what is self-image, it can be very destructive if you believe in it, okay. If you believe that, you know, for example, that you're an addict because NoFap adds, I told you, so, and everyone says that he's an addict because they watched porn once in their lives, whatever, right. Now the thing is, the sad thing is with that is that because you believe it to be true, you act according to that. So that's how it works, okay? You have your perception of life here, okay? This is your perception. And under perception, you have beliefs, okay? And under beliefs, you have your thoughts, okay? So how, you know, you're thinking basically. And under your thoughts, you have your decisions, okay? And under your decisions, you have your actions. And under your actions, you have your results. And your results are basically your reality. So if you go at the base, it's really your perception is at the base and your beliefs are the, they're both at the base. And those two things will basically dictate how you act according— I mean, how you act towards life. So if I think that, you know, there's— I'm addicted to porn and, you know, I've been watching for so long, so, you know, it's going to be so hard for me to quit and all of those things, then my actions are going to be aligned with those, with that perception around porn and those beliefs around porn. So I'm going to act according to that and my reality is going to become that I'm gonna be addicted, right? That I'm gonna feel like I'm addicted. Even though it's false, I'm gonna act according to that. So, you know, the other option of not being addicted is not even a scenario in my head. I don't even think it's gonna be true in that sense, right? I believe I'm addicted, you know, in that moment being. Now, if your belief, just like the people that quit porn overnight and the students that I've coached, for example, I've coached One of my recent students, Jude, this guy is 18, you know, yet he was watching porn for like many years. You know, I've also coached people that were 26, 30, in their 30s, 40s, and they quit porn overnight because we kind of just get rid of this addict self-image, right? They go from thinking that, oh, I need to watch porn because I'm an addict, to, oh, I choose to watch porn because I believe that I was an addict. You understand? So because they believed. Now once you get rid of that belief and get rid of that perception that addiction exists, what happens is, you know, just think about it, right? If you don't think you're an addict and you think that you are responsible for your choices, you're always choosing what you want to do, and you don't have a disease called addiction that became your self-image, what happens is now you just act according to that and you just Guess what? Your beliefs and your perceptions are going to influence your actions at the base. Now guess what? Your actions are going to be like, okay, if I'm the one choosing and I have full responsibility for my actions, then that means that I don't need to watch porn today, for example. That can be as simple as that, right? Now it's not just like I don't watch porn today and, you know, I'm fighting off for discipline. No, it's none of that, but You just realize that, okay, instead of thinking that I don't have any control over it, I actually have control over it. So now I actually act like I have control over it. It's really that simple. That's why we got to stop believing in all of these no-fat toxic lies and all of those things, right? And that's how you can actually start debunking the addict self-image. But now if you want to actually have an actionable step-by-step to really get rid of that self-image of an addict, okay, Now, first of all, you understand why it's not true, like, like I just explained. Um, I highly suggest you watch my other videos so that you can understand more in depth about those things, or you can even go down in the link of my description, book a call with me to get coached one-on-one so that you can quit as soon as possible. Um, basically in a week or two if you are, if you're committed. Porn, you know, masturbation, and lust forever. But look, one of the things that is very powerful is you want to build a vision of your life, okay? Not necessarily to get rid of the concept of addiction because the concept of addiction doesn't exist. You just need to understand why it doesn't exist, but to just overall move on with life. Because look, the reality is if NoFap wasn't there, right? If NoFap didn't have all of these limiting beliefs that they instill inside of your head and that the porn industry didn't have like this extremely sophisticated marketing of telling you that porn is like the greatest thing on earth and that sex is the most important thing on earth. If those things didn't exist, then you would just move on, right? And the reality is those things don't physically exist, they just exist in your mind. So that means they don't exist, they just exist in your— I mean, like, in your thoughts, right? So like, you cannot— they're not tangible in that sense, right? They're not going to influence you. You're the one creating them, you're the one who has control over them, right? Now look, the thing is, if you want to move on, which is what we do. People do this with alcohol, they do this with drugs, you do this with— when they were kids, when we were a kid, we were playing with toys, right? And we just moved on to another kind of like activity. And then maybe we played video games and we just move on. Maybe we play a sport like hockey, soccer, basketball, whatever, and then we just moved on to another sport, or we just moved on to not play any sports. We just move on naturally. If you look at studies, you see that— and this is very important if you want to debunk the self-image of an addict debunk these studies. I mean, not the studies, debunk further the addiction concept. Because you look at— if you look at studies, you'll see that people actually, after about like 5 years, they get rid of the, the quote-unquote addiction naturally, right? It goes down with time. It just literally just goes down with time, right? And a lot of people just quit overnight, but we just don't see them because how can someone be, you know, in the NoFap space if they quit porn and masturbation? It wouldn't make sense because why would they need to be in the NoFap communities? That's why when you see, um, certain groups like Easy Peasy, uh, even though I don't really recommend Easy Peasy, it's still like some other great book, right? And then there's the Freedom Model. When you see those groups, you see that they are really small groups because people don't struggle with, with porn anymore once they read those books, or they don't struggle with masturbation. Humans are easily able to move on if they are, you know, if they want to move on, you know. And but because of NoFap, we have all of these limiting beliefs. Oh, you're an addict, dopamine is controlling you. You have no power over your own self. You have no control. And because of that, we just struggle with porn for so many years. I've seen people struggle with porn for over 15 years of trying to quit, which is insane to me. Now look, if you want to move on easily, now let me just get into it. Build a vision. Just build a vision for your life. What it's going to allow you to do, because look at it. Like this, okay? And this is not just with porn, but just for your life in general, okay? Think about it. We've been probably— and this is me in the past talking, and you know, this is also a lot of people that I've coached— I've seen that we don't really have any directions for life. We live life without a map and without an end destination. So essentially, we're just going back to whatever is known to us and whatever is comfortable for us. Whether that can be porn, that can be being lazy, that can be, you know, doing nothing with our lives because we're just used to it. And that doesn't mean we're gonna do it, but it's like we don't know where we're going, right? We don't know what we want to do in life. So when you don't have a map and a destination, what happens is you go anywhere. You can go anywhere in a sense that— not in a good sense, but in a sense that if society tells you to go that way, you're gonna go that way. If something bad happens to you, you're going to go back to what's comfortable to you. Just to give you a good analogy, if you don't have an end destination and a map for your life, now imagine trying to go out of your house metaphorically and, you know, you say, you know what, let me go on an adventure. And you go on an adventure, but the thing is you don't know where you're going and you don't know, you know, where you are and all of those things, right? You don't have a map, you don't have an end destination. Now the moment You're going to be uncomfortable on that road trying to go out of your house and adventure. The moment you're going to be uncomfortable facing pain, challenges, guess what? You're just going to come back to your house, to what is comfortable, to what is known to you. But when you have a vision and you have overall the ability to know where you're going, what's going to happen is you're going to know, okay, even if things get hard, even if, you know, there's a lot of pain in front of me, even if there's a lot of challenges in front of me, I'm gonna go still push because I know where my end destination is and I know how to get there. I have the map, I have the end destination. So that's why we need to build a vision, just so that we can move on, not stay in at the same exact house, okay, the comfortable spot, okay, what is known to us, and instead go towards what matters to us. I mean, whatever, like whatever goal we have, whatever vision we have, because that's what vision allows you to do, okay? So if you want to do this and it's going to be extremely life-changing. Go and write down, okay, what do you want to be like 1 year from now and also 10 years from now? That's what I do with my students. What do you want to be 1 year and 10 years from now? So in 1 year, you know, what kind of lifestyle do you want to live? Do you want to have a family? Do you want to be traveling the world? Like, you know, that kind of stuff. What is your purpose? What is your mission? What is— how do you feel? I mean, how do you act? What's your physique like? What do you do in terms of hobbies, activities, all of those things? And you know, what's your diet and things that actually matters to you, just write them down so you know where you're going. You actually have clarity. Now on the flip side, if you go with 10 years, right, which I highly suggest because 10 years is going to allow you to see the bigger picture, then you know, you still write down the basically the same things, okay? How do you want your family to be like? How many kids? You know, what kind of house? What kind of lifestyle? Are you traveling? Are you, you know, living? What kind of, you know, apartment do you have? Whatever, right? You understand what I mean. What kind of physique? What kind of, like, what kind of image do you have? You can even do self-image, right? What kind of self-image? Oh, okay, you're someone that walks confidently. You're someone that walks with a lot of charisma. You're someone that walks with, you know, a lot of fashion, for example. Anything, right? How do you dress? Write down all of those things so that you have a lot of clarity of what is your end destination and how you're actually going to get there with the map, you know. And that's going to be extremely powerful. If you guys want to do this, I highly suggest it, right? But if you want to quit porn as soon as possible, I'm talking about in 7 days if you're committed, then go down in the link in description, book a call with me, go watch, uh, my free training to learn how you can quit, and we can talk over Zoom basically and see how you can actually quit porn in 7 days so that you can really just start living your life to the fullest, you know, become a, you know, what matters to us, right? Become a father in the near future, become someone who's actually confident, a role model for others, who actually is a leader and who actually has respect from other people, things of that nature, which actually, you know, is what we strive for as men. So if you wanna do this, by quitting porn and masturbation forever and lust, then go down the link in the description and we can talk over to see how you can actually do it. All right, this is Samir Gardner.
