Monk Mode Plan - Regain Your Life

Samir Gardner outlines a "monk mode" plan to cut technology use and boost focus. Limit Netflix to 2 hours weekly, one YouTube video daily, eliminate social media and video games. The payoff: reclaimed attention turns one hour of focused work into several hours of scattered output, plus free time and rediscovered enjoyment in reading and exercise.

What's good, y'all? It's your boy Samir Gardner. Hope y'all doing good. So let's talk about this monk mode plan. And if you follow this plan, I swear to God, it's gonna change your life because, I mean, it's simple. You reduce dopamine, your life is gonna change. Like, it's like this. So I'm just gonna give y'all like a step-by-step plan. Basically, I'm gonna tell y'all like the rules and everything, but you're gonna be free to modify it however you want. But what I'm gonna tell you is reducing dopamine will change your life. That's normal, bro. Reducing dopamine will make everything way better. I'm gonna talk about a bit of the benefits. I'm gonna make other videos on that. But monk mode, well, I swear it will change your life. And it's not on some, some like meditate all day or something. It's just reduce your instant gratification so your life can get better and you can be more productive. You can be more happy, you can be more good at social skills, you can be enjoying the boring stuff and everything. So look, the goal for this is to reduce about like 75% of your technology use, okay? And I'm not going to lie, this video is inspired by Tashawn's Adventure because I did his monk mode, uh, thing in the past, and bro, it changed my life, to be honest. So look, I'm going to tell you all the rules right now. I wrote down the rules. So look, the first rule is 2 hours of Netflix per week. Now, to be honest, I don't even wanna go on Netflix. I barely go on Netflix. I might do 2 hours or I might just do nothing. Like, to be honest, I don't know. It's up to you if you wanna watch anime, if you wanna watch anything, bro, it's up to you. 1 YouTube video per day. Now that's easy, bro, because what you gotta understand is Once you watch like 5 YouTube videos, you won't remember like much. Like it's way better to just watch one video and it's gonna save you a lot of time and you're gonna get more knowledge in. Like, because I'm gonna talk about something called attention residue basically, just a little bit later in the video. But for now, look, no social media. And if you have a business, like look, that's up to you. Every rules in this, it's up to you. I'm just doing— I'm just saying like my plan for me, and maybe y'all can use it if y'all want to, but no social media because I mean, bro, if you got a business, or at least like unfollow everyone so you can have like nothing on your— like you gotta be able to sort of create value out of this. You gotta be able to like, you know, make something out of social media, not just scrolling it and try to get some knowledge. It won't work like, like this, bro. Like, books exist if you want to get knowledge. YouTube exists if you want to get knowledge. It's how it works. But look, no video games. Uh, I mean, I think that's going to be easy for a lot of people, but I mean, video games is not like that useful. I mean, if you want to play video games, it's up to you, but for me, no video games. No porn or masturbation. That's— well, that's normal. Just don't do that, bro. Uh, music is up to you if you want to listen to music or if you don't want to listen to music. Personally, I haven't listened to music in a while, but I mean, I'll listen to it. I mean, if I want to, basically. And no TV. I mean, no one watches TV anymore, so like, well, just no TV, bro. No news, no, no, no, nothing that's sort of technology. So because the plan is to reduce your technology use by 75%, I mean, maybe it's, it's gonna be like 30% for you, maybe it's gonna be 100% for you, but look, reduce your technology use, basically. Now I'm gonna talk about something that's gonna help you like a lot, and I'm saying like a lot. Like, basically, I read a book called Deep Work. A lot of people know about it. And in this book, he said like, have some blocks of internet use. And by that I mean, and he means that You, let's say you work for 1 hour, right? Right now I'm working on my business. I'm working, I'm recording lifting, I'm working on YouTube. After this, after I'm done working out, I just scripted this video, I just scripted another video, I might record another video and everything. After, after I'm done doing that, right, I'm gonna have like a 30-minute or 1-hour break where I just rest. I just rest, I do whatever I want, but I don't have any technology, okay? That's the goal because I'm gonna explain a little bit later, but you want sort of a break between your work. Because let's say you work on your computer, right? You might get tired just working out, not working out, but working like 1 hour intense. And it's normal because you gotta be able to do what we call deep work, which is you do intense work So you don't have much work. I mean, so you can pretty much do what people do in like 4 hours, you do it in 1 hour. Just you do it with high, high concentration. And then you take a rest for 30 minutes or 1 hour, or you do anything that is not related to technology and which doesn't really use brain power. So it can be working out, it can be taking a shower, it can be going in nature. That's underrated. Or it can be, uh, talking with your family. It can be playing a game, like a board game or anything. It can be you drawing. It can be you and doing anything that's pretty much relaxing. Can be like you just resting in bed. Maybe if you want to read. I mean, I don't really do that because I'm trying to get my attention, like I'm trying to keep my attention so I can read, can't like put concentration. But like, now basically, bro, for the plan, you're in control to do like whatever you want. Like, if you want to cut off, uh, let's say you want to listen to music, then it's up to you. But what the goal is, is to reduce your technology use. It might not be 75%, that's just a number I made up, to be honest. But just reduce your technology use, that's the main point, because I swear to God it will change your life. Reduce your technology use means reduce dopamine. Yeah, other things like food can give you dopamine and everything, but I hope you eat healthy. Because that's dopamine too. But reduce your dopamine, it will change your life. I swear to God, I swear to God, like, I can't— it will change it. Maybe your life might get boring, but it will change your life. Like, I'm gonna talk about the benefits and at the end of the video. Now, what is this gonna help? It's— well, it's gonna help a lot of things. Like, it's gonna— like, I swear, I'm gonna say this a thousand times, but I swear it's gonna help you. So it's gonna change your life. But what it's gonna help mainly with these technology blocks and this sort of monk mode is, especially those technology blocks that I said, like those no internet use for like 30 minutes to 1 hour, what this is gonna help is you're gonna be able to have more attention because you gotta understand one thing and listen closely. You have a limited amount of attention every day, okay? You don't have, you don't have like an infinity of attention. Like, it's like willpower. You don't have infinite amount of willpower. You don't have infinite amount of attention or concentration, basically. So what happens is once you reduce that technology and you're not like, let's say you finish your work, right? Um, you go on your technology, on your phone, for example, you go on your phone straight up, mindlessly scroll on Instagram and everything, your attention gets lost. And remember I said you don't have infinity, an infinite amount of attention. So once you go on social media and everything, you lose your attention, you lose your concentration. And the thing that is bad, like, yeah, it might not be bad that you lose your attention, but the thing is, once you have more attention you can do what people call deep work, and which is you work intensely but you work less. Like, intense— instead of doing something for like 5 hours because you don't have, you don't have much attention, you can do that in like 1 hour just because you have a lot of attention and concentration. Okay, that's what you gotta understand. It's gonna help a lot for this, bro. Like, it's gonna change your life, bro. Now, once you have more attention, right, once you're not on your phone 24/7, once you're not, you know, just basically giving all your energy and attention and concentration and brain power to all these distractions or technology, you're gonna be left with more attention. And like I said, you're gonna be able to be more productive than your past self or everyone else because you're gonna be like having more attention and brain power, like I said, to do the work. So 1 hour of work is going to be equal like maybe 4 hours of work in the past, because first of all, you're gonna do deep work, right? You're gonna do deep work, so you're not gonna— you're gonna work without distractions. And that's— well, you're gonna save so much time. And once you have more free time, it's a blessing, bro. Being bored is a blessing because Once you have more free time, you can do whatever you want. So I'm gonna talk about the top 2 benefits. Now, the first benefit, you're gonna have way more free time, and that's the best thing. Like, I know being bored, like, seems bad and everything, but once you're bored and you try something new, you try, like, I mean, you're just gonna have more free time. You can work out more, you can do, you can do whatever you want, bro. You can do, like, You're not gonna feel like a slave to your schedule or something because you're gonna have way more free time and you're gonna enjoy more. Like, that's it. Now the second top 2 benefit, and this one is like, well, it's underrated, is you're gonna enjoy more of the boring stuff. So reading a book, like for me right now, I'm so hyped to just read the book I'm gonna read right now. I'm gonna read, uh, The 4-Hour Workweek. Well, I'm so hyped to read it, like I swear. But if I wasn't like on this sort of like no technology, if I was always like, you know, just watching Netflix 24/7 or just mindlessly scrolling YouTube, I wouldn't be hyped. But now, like the boring stuff is the funnest stuff for me. It's, it's how it works. So you're gonna enjoy more the boring stuff and it's cool to enjoy like stuff like working out, reading, playing sports and everything, because once you enjoy those things and they benefit you, and then plus they benefit you, well, it's the end because it's like a wrap, because you enjoy doing something and it gives you a lot of benefits. Like, bro, I mean, that's underrated. And now for the third benefit, okay, you're gonna be more bored, like I said, because you're gonna have way more free time, and being bored is a blessing. Because once you're bored, bro, like, you're free to do whatever you want. And not only that, is because you'll start doing things that you've never done before. You might start, you know, talking to someone you never know. You might start, uh, trying something new like drawing or something. You might start cooking because you're going to be bored, so you're going to start doing something else. And that's the point where you don't— you really don't want to indulge in instant gratification or technology because it's going to pay off so much. Because once you learn this, like, you might learn a new skill, you might learn something else. Like, bro, you have way more free time because you're— I mean, you're gonna be bored because you have a lot of free time, bro. So, bro, that's it for the vid. Hope y'all like it. Comment, share, subscribe, then like. I'm out. Peace.
