Remove Social Media Triggers (Step-by-Step Guide)

Samir Gardner shows how to remove sexual imagery and distracting content from your social feeds. Delete apps, use "Not Interested" to prune feeds, schedule specific times for scrolling, and install blockers like News Feed Eradicator. The idea: remove triggers instead of fighting the urge, so your mind can focus on work and relationships.

What's up guys? So I'm going to cover how to make your digital environment less sexual, meaning what's on your phone and what's on your computer, so that you don't have to constantly bombard yourself with sexual imagery. We're talking about most of the times the softcore porn, meaning the half-naked Instagram models on social media or things of that nature. So we'll make it also so that you can be less distracted. Because this is something which I've applied in my life and it definitely has a major positive impact on your life because the moment you remove something which objectively doesn't really bring any value, meaning like if I constantly see an Instagram model on my feed, well, how can that benefit my life in an objective manner? Meaning how can it benefit me for me to just see, for example, this beautiful, woman. You can, some people might argue motivation, but then it's like, we all know we can be motivated by other things, which will provide actually much, much stronger motivation. So we essentially lose nothing by doing this. And we only gain, and we gain a lot of time because we get to not have our mind constantly focused on that Instagram model that you just saw or the fantasies that you might attach to that sexual imagery and you're less distracted. And that means that you can put more of that mental energy and capacity into whatever you decide to focus, whether that be relationships, like you're married and you wanna build more of that connection, meaning that you wanna be more present and do things of that nature. Or that can be, for example, career, business, which for a lot of people, this is very important. We know that if you spend 1 hour scrolling on your phone, it's a bit harder to go and work. It doesn't mean it's impossible. I've talked about this in previous videos where you can scroll on your phone and do all of those things if you love to work. Like, you'll still work afterwards if you want to, but then we're diminishing our ability to focus at a higher level and to do better work at the end of the day. So there's a lot of benefits when it comes to that. So let me just go over this. If for years you've been constantly exposing yourself to sexual imagery, well, reducing this exposure can only benefit you, not just including porn and masturbation. Because again, if we're trying to move on from a behavior, let's say we're trying to move on from junk food, and it's not to say that it's like a battle that you're going to win if you quit junk food. Uh, we, we know that the approach that we take in this program or the approach I suggest that you take in your life is that you look at quitting behaviors as, would this benefit me with whatever I want in my life? Would this be better for me? Rather than let's just quit because it's better to quit and try to make it a battle or an accomplishment. So if I though, I'm trying to quit junk food, but every day I live in a, or I go to a restaurant with my friends multiple times a day. It's like, sure, you don't have to eat the junk food. I'm saying this not to brag at all, but this is the case for a lot of people. You can bring them every day to a restaurant where there's junk food and they're not going to eat because they have good reasons to not eat the junk food. That's as simple as it is. But then if you're there and you're just trying to quit junk food and see how life without junk food could be better, well, it would be better if you don't have that junk food in front of you. And you just make it easier for you to eat the healthy food. So also we always give the example of, well, if you want to eat healthy, well, don't buy junk food to put it in your closet or closet or in your refrigerator. And these things, it's not like the end all be all, because we know if we really want to eat junk food and we don't want to eat healthy, well, we can just go and drive and get some junk food. That's it. Or on our way back home from work, we can just get junk food. It's not that hard. It's accessible.. But then if you remove the access or constantly bombarding, if you constantly bombard yourself with that, it just helps with the process of adapting to a life without that. And you can then taste however it tastes, that new lifestyle of, let's say, not eating that junk food and eating healthy. And you get to really experience that better. So it's just you win from that and you lose nothing. Think about it this way. If every day, and this is something which I see a lot of people do, some of my students, and this is something when I was young, I came across this idea from the whole part of self-improvement. If you read books like, what is the name of that book? I don't remember exactly, but when we talk about the, what people talk about, the law of attraction and attracting good things in your life, we often say, okay, look, Well, they often say, look, if you constantly watch the news and you just see people getting killed and you see people, the economy going bad and things of that nature, well, you just feed your mind with that. And then, well, that's all you think there is to life. And it's not like going to go to the extreme and saying that if you watch just like one video of someone getting killed on the news, that is going to ruin your life. And suddenly that's all you're going to think about. Like we're not gonna go to an extreme, but we know that if we just feed our minds with that instead of feeding our minds with, let's say for example, we have a goal, we wanna make a business and we wanna make it successful and we feed ourselves with videos or constantly seeing different things, like whether that be in your environment, like physically your friends around you, they talk about business, whether that be on your social media, you see business tips. Well, it's like now you feed that more. Now you see that more. Now you see better. You see solutions for how you can be more successful. You see tips that you can apply and you just grow that. It's really that simple. But then it's like if we do the same thing but with sexual imagery, with lust, well, what do you gain out of it? It's not even a question of if this is something which is bad or good. It's just like, what do you gain out of it? And of course, I would personally say that it is bad to constantly see that from a moral standpoint. But even from a practical standpoint, what do you gain out of it? I would argue it's only a distraction. You can argue that it gives you motivation to see beautiful women and then go to work, but then why not just work and get the work done and get the results and then attract a beautiful woman because of that? Now, of course, there's nuances to this, but you get the point I'm trying to make. So why reducing exposure is important also, Well, it desensitizes your mind. It makes the process easier. Again, if we're just constantly bombarding ourselves with one thing, well, that's what we're going to think about. If I constantly see business tips or like, I'll give you a personal example. You'll see this, I'll show you my phone. I constantly see martial arts. This is the thing I see on my phone. It's like a lot of things about UFC because I used to love UFC and I still do to some extent. The only sport I watch in terms of entertainment. And guess what? That's also on my mind a lot, a lot more than I think I need to. I think I need to really cut down on that to a certain extent. So it's constantly something that I see less now, but it used to be when I had more Instagram, I would constantly think about, oh yeah, this fight is going to happen, this and that. And then I start thinking about these things and then that's what happens. So when we say triggered here, okay, by that I just like wanna explain it to people that might not understand that triggers are not like real. And by triggers being not real, I just mean like, it's like if you see something and it really provides that emotional response. So this is what a trigger is in that sense. But it's not like a trigger just has power over you. This is what I want you to be aware of. It's not like, oh, just because you're on social media and you see a half-naked woman, that's going to trigger you. You're going to go to porn. That's not how it works. And of course, we have previous videos that I've talked about this, but we're talking about constantly showing sexual imagery. What is the benefit to that? And you only sexualize your mind the same way. If I just watch videos about UFC, about martial arts, well, that's what I'm going to think about. My mind is going to be filled. It's like I'm making my mind filled with martial arts and different things revolving around that. And the beauty is the moment you decide to instead do something else that would be beneficial, well, you grow that more and you have more results in your life, or you make more progress in that area of life because you think about it more. And that means you might take more action in regards to it. Second thing, you redirect your mental energy. You'll just naturally put more focus into things that improve your life, like passions, career, relationships. Same thing I said. Then you avoid distractions. Think about it like this. It's not like, okay, just because you have social media, suddenly you lose control and you'll be distracted and you'll get nothing done. That's not how it works. Of course though, if you, for example, are at an open office, right? So you've probably seen this before where you can work in an office in a lobby, but if your friends, they come next to you and you see them, you may want to say hi to them. The same way if you constantly see different videos, that doesn't have to just be about sexual imagery or lust. It can be about anything that you like. Well, you'd want to maybe take a look at that. And it's not to say that you're addicted just because of that. It's just like, okay, these platforms suggest content that you like and so you decide to click on it or not. So of course, if you're less distracted, man, you'll have way more mental energy, you'll have way more time, you'll get much, much, much, much more done. Because you'll now be forced to do what's in front of you, whether that be like working on relationships, your career, business, fitness, anything. Now here's the practical steps. I would suggest removing social media from your phone if you don't use it for career purposes. Now this is completely up to you. And of course, everything is up to you. At the end of the day, you're the one deciding. But if I didn't have any social media content I need to rely on in order to run my coaching, well, I wouldn't have social media. And that's what I did in the beginning when I first got into the whole thing of improving myself. I just deviated social media and I had no idea what was going on on any social media. I did multiple dopamine detoxes, like you get it, just no electronics. That's what That's how we call them. So that's what I would suggest because it's not even for quitting porn masturbation or desexualizing your mind or removing the lust or removing the constant sexual imagery that you can see on your phone. It's also because you get to really see too many distractions for no reason. Again, I'm bringing up the example of if you work, for example, let's say in your home, like you're on your table and then there's your family that comes around, you can decide to just focus on your work, but rationally you're like, well, maybe it's better for me to go and say hi to them. But then that distracts you and then that pushes the amount of, I mean, it means that now your work needs more time. You need to put more time into your work in order to get it done. And it's just like, it's better in my opinion to not have social media, but then again, this is up to you. So let me show you an example. I'm gonna go on my phone and show you how my social media is when it comes to Instagram. Now I'll tell you, for example, I would not have platforms like Facebook on my phone, nor Twitter. I will never have those things. I used to have those things. It's not to say that, okay, because a lot of people think because we see content that provokes an emotional response. So for example, on Twitter, you'll see something that goes completely against your beliefs and that makes you angry sometimes, or you'll see something which shocks you. It doesn't mean that it is addictive, but it is distracting. It's like if someone comes up to you and says, "Hey man," and he says something that completely provokes you like, hey man, you're dumb. Well, you're going to maybe think about that. You can be stoic, meaning you can just decide to, well, I'm not going to react to that and just focus on what's better. You can definitely do that. Just like if you, for example, are driving and then suddenly someone starts screaming at you because he thinks that you cut him off, you can decide to just not react to it and say, you know what, I'm not going to spend my time focusing on that. But then again, if we're constantly bombarded with someone trying to scream at us, it's just like distracting. So if I go on my phone on Instagram, so I'll just show you how my feed is. If you wanna still keep the social media, meaning you still wanna keep your social media on your phone for whatever reason, what I did, and this was something I did a long time ago, is you go here, this is my search bar. So this is where you can see videos. And as you can see, it's all martial arts, just that for some reason, because I guess this is what I've been watching the most on social media. Now the thing is, what you would want to do is let's say you don't want to see an half-naked woman. So let's say that this, let's just keep a, let's pick a random one. Let's say that, what is it? We'll pick, okay, this is a Hawkeye thing. I'm like, okay, I don't want to see any Hawkeye stuff. I'll just scroll down and there's something called not interested. So you just essentially click on the video like this, you hold the video, and then you just scroll down and then you click on not interested. Oops. Reports, you go and there's something called Not Interested. So you click on Not Interested and then suddenly you see there's like a, you cannot see it. Then if you refresh, you're gonna see there's gonna be less of that content. So you can do that. Of course, it's like in the beginning that means that you'll have to constantly do that, but it only takes a day or two and like you're not gonna see anything. But I would still suggest to just remove completely social media from your phone, not entirely, but from your phone. And what I do is I delete social media and I just install it again when I need to post stories or content on my social media, on Instagram specifically. YouTube, I don't need it on my phone except if I watch educational content in the car, for example. This is one thing I do. I listen to educational content, but you don't really want to have that. And I also, say to myself, you know what, at 8 PM before I sleep, so I sleep at like towards 9 PM, I can have social media on my phone and like Instagram and watch videos if I want. And look, I decide to do that or not, like it's up to me. Like I can decide to have social media at 6 PM and start watching, but I'd rather be productive until the time that I sleep and focus and have more depth of that focus. Now the third thing, and this is the thing I'm going to show you guys, install the Chrome extension News Feed Eradicator. So If you still wanna keep social media and not see sexual content and you decide to remove it from your phone, what I, this is what I do essentially is you wanna install this Chrome extension called News Feed Eradicator. I don't know if you guys can see it. I'm just gonna try to share my, I cannot share my screen, but essentially it's this. This is News Feed Eradicator. Very, very, very, Good. I've been using that for a long time. I think it's been over 2 years now. And it basically blocks everything. So you can't see the content on your feed. So let me show you. And you can go here, for example, on my Instagram. Let me show you. This is, for example, my YouTube. So I only have the subscription here, which I can click. And I also can click on Shorts, There's actually another extension that I'll link down below that you can install for YouTube if you really wanna see nothing. You can completely customize it. And then you have on Facebook. So Facebook, it looks like this for me. We see nothing. And so I can just essentially search for what I wanna look for and that's it. So there's, it's like, it makes it hard. It's not, you can't say like it's like a porn blocker. It's just that at the end of the day also, and I have videos on that, you can reduce your desire also for social media content, by simply understanding why and having good reasons to not indulge in those things. It's not like you just lose control and watch all of these videos. For example, this is Reddit for me. I don't really use Reddit anyways, but this is an example. Newsfeed Eradicator would look like this. You have Facebook, you can click on Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, and all of these things. And you can just see nothing when it comes to the feed and only look for what you're searching for. So it just makes things easier. And instead of like, constantly being bombarded with something without even wanting to, well, you just don't see it. So I would highly suggest actually installing it and just seeing how it feels. And if you're, you're going to be probably more focused in a sense of you're not going to have as many distractions. It's like if you don't have, for example, people in front of you constantly asking you questions and constantly coming to you and to talk to you, well, you're going to be more focused. Right? Well, so it's the same thing here. We just wanna reduce our distractions and make our environment less sexual so that we can really just give a break to our mind when it comes to sexual imagery. And also put, uh, allow ourselves to focus and put our, like, feed our mind more information with things that actually moves the needle forward, whether that be your business, your, your, your relationships, things you wanna improve and so on. So that's it. I will link everything down below this video and you can install these.
