What Happens When You Relapse on NoFap

Samir Gardner argues that a slip-up on NoFap causes no physical harm; the real damage is shame and guilt that block honest reflection. He outlines three steps: accept you enjoy porn, identify why you use it, then question whether it actually works. Chronic use often masks deeper issues like loneliness or low self-image.

My friend, my friend, you've been lied to. You've been lied to. What happens after relapse is that there's no relapse. Let me explain to you something, okay? I've helped over 200 men quit, right? Some of them quit forever without even going back to it once, AKA what people will call never relapse. Some of them had a few slip-ups. Some of them, you know, took a bit more time, right? But the thing I can tell you is, what is a relapse? Because if there is something such as a relapse, then first we need to understand what the mind is, okay? And let me put you on real, real game because most people will just say, oh, you relapse, you expel semen, and that's your life force, sexual energy, right? Seems all cool and like, you know, amazing to hear those things, but let me tell you, Look, okay, let's actually see what the truth is. Because if you really go and watch porn, masturbate, and let's say that you're not on NoFap in the sense that you don't know about NoFap, you just, you know, you watch porn, masturbate because you like it, nothing's gonna happen. Like, you're literally gonna just like, yeah, physically something's gonna happen in the sense that you're gonna waste something, but emotionally and how you feel is not dependent on the action that you take, if that makes sense, in that moment. It's not dependent on that because you can watch porn, masturbate, and feel on top of the world, right? You can, um, watch porn, masturbate, and feel the worst. But it's not to say that you should watch porn, masturbate, right? I'm just going to tell you why this is also very helpful to understand so that you can actually quit forever. The thing is, okay, the shame and guilt, right? When you relapse, you feel shame and guilt. Well, first, okay, obviously if you're a man that believes in God, then obviously it's normal to feel shame because, you know, that's— it's the same as if like if you're constantly lying, if you're constantly doing sins, right, then obviously, like, I mean, you should feel the same kind of like shame and guilt, right? But the thing with porn, the reason why it's so inflated, right, because at the end of the day, right, God forgives, right? God forgives. We all know this, right? But the thing with porn masturbation is you relapse, you quote unquote relapse, and then all you think about is either the shame and guilt, or you think about, ah man, I wanted to keep on doing it, but I'm addicted. So the thing is, what happens is no reflection is happening. You might think, oh no, but I was too much on Instagram, that's why I, you know, I relapsed. Bullshit. You're too much on Instagram. I'm too much on Instagram, right? Many people are too much on Instagram. Does that mean they watch porn because they're too much on Instagram? Yeah, I mean, you can say for some, but the thing is you don't target the root cause. Because you haven't targeted the root cause, the moment you've targeted the root cause, I mean, there can be like 1,000 Instagram models in your feed and you won't even care, right? The thing is, when you relapse, what truly happens is nothing. Like, literally, there's no— okay, yeah, you expelled semen, cool. Semen gets reabsorbed in the body, like semen gets produced again. But the thing that happens that the most costly mistake that people make is they just feel shame and guilt and say, oh, I'm addicted, oh, the temptation was too strong, I'm not gonna fall again, I'm gonna make this promise to God that I'm never gonna go back to it again, just to come back to it again. Instead, and this is real game, right? This is like literally top, like literally top info that no one knows about. Instead, I want you to put that shame and guilt aside and actually look at, do real, like real deep, and I'm gonna give you the one actionable steps, right, that I talk about in this book, okay? I want you to be like, okay, and you can do this even if you don't be honest, right? But look, you gotta ask yourself, why? Why do I like porn? Okay, first, first, accept that you like porn, right? Accept that, you know, it's something that you want. Accept that you actually like masturbation, right? Instead of just blaming your biology or the fact that you're addicted or that the temptation was too strong. Accept that you like it. I'd be like, yeah, yeah, actually I like it. I mean, the moment it feels so good, right? You know, it's the best thing on earth, whatever, right? Cool, accept that you like it, right? That doesn't mean you're gonna like it forever because you accept it, okay? Accept that you like it. Second, Ask yourself why. Why do you like it? Is it because in that moment you feel stressed out and you feel like it's gonna help you relax? Is it because you're not in a relationship and you feel like you want to reproduce that moment of, you know, having sex that you've seen in movies or even in porn? Is it that it gives you so much pleasure in your own mind that You just want to do it again and again? What is it? Like, just be open-minded and don't judge yourself. What if— even if you have like a fetish, right? Like, who's gonna judge you? Like, look, just be open-minded and accept that you like those things. And why? Ask yourself why. Be open-minded. That's the second step. Third step, now that you know why you like it, you gotta ask yourself But can porn, and again, don't be judgmental, don't put any shame and guilt, whatever. Ask yourself, can porn give me those benefits that I'm looking for? Can porn give me that pleasure that will, you know, just make me feel euphoria? Can porn give me that stress relief that, you know, will make me relax forever? Can porn really just like you know, give me that, you know, sexual relief that, you know, I always wanted because I never had a girlfriend, for example? Can porn give those things, or can life without porn be better when it comes to those things? Because the truth is, and this is what most people understand, you'll probably say no, right? You're like, no, porn is bad, whatever, porn is, you know, gives me nothing. But the truth is, you believe it does, okay? That's the tricky part. You believe it does, and then once you're watching porn, it kind of happens because of two things. First, the placebo, right? Okay, because you literally believe it's gonna happen, you expect it to happen, so it happens, right? Many studies have been proving this with like antidepressants, for example, where, you know, they gave placebos, like, a pill and they said, you know what, if you take that drug, and they told them like it was actually antidepressants, even though it wasn't antidepressants, and they saw that the score for them lowering the depression when it came to placebos and the score for them to lower the depression when it comes to the actual drug, the actual antidepressant was literally the same, right? Literally the same. The placebo were as effective as the antidepressants. So what does that tell us is that if you expect something to happen, then it most likely will happen because what is stress relief? What is pleasure? What is sexual relief? It's all in the mind. It's nothing physical. You create the physical effects of stress. You create the pleasurable effects. You create the sexual relief with your own mind first and then it goes into your body, right? That's what happens. The same way, like, you know, if for example, you get told that you lost one of your best friends, It's not the physical act that feels bad to you. It's not like a chemical reaction. It's just you and your own mind think, oh, this feels bad, right? Or like, this is painful because this happened. You need your own mind, right? And then you start feeling something. You start feeling sad. The tears start going out. You need your own mind. Because if I told you like 2 seconds later, actually it was a joke, right? Even though you were feeling sad and crying, now I told you it was a joke. Now you feel happy. Because it's with your own mind, okay? That's what she needs to understand. So really ask yourself, am I just doing a placebo? Because I'll give you the answer, it's a fantasy. It's like, imagine I'm just daydreaming. Let's say I feel very lonely and I just daydream of being with a woman who's feminine, who loves me, that looks after me, that finds me attractive, that gives me up. Now I'm gonna feel something, right? I'm gonna feel something. Because I'm thinking about those things. So I'm gonna feel whatever benefit I want, whether that be to feel less lonely, whether that be to feel pleasure, whether that be to feel a sexual relief, whether that be to feel love, intimacy, whatever. All right, so now you understand this. And I mean, I understand this, and I'm like, okay, so it's the same thing. Like, the fantasy is what you put onto porn. It's not the video that really is attractive to you, because you— I mean, there's a test that people can do and many people have done, which is like, if you watch porn mindfully, let's say like you just scroll on the website where you normally get aroused, nothing's gonna happen if you're mindful, meaning like you don't think about anything. But the moment you start thinking, the moment you start putting your own fantasy, your own emotional needs onto the screen is the moment where you gave the power to porn, right? But the reality is you're the one doing it, right? If you're daydreaming about something, the video cut off, but if you're just like thinking of something, you can feel any emotion basically. If I think of something that makes me happy, I can feel happy if I want to, right? If that's my intention. If I think of something that makes me angry, I can feel angry if I want to, right? We're in control of our emotions because emotions are cognitive products, meaning they come from our mind, right? We need our mind in order to create them. So that's what happens. So now, okay, You have that. Now what you need to ask yourself is like, can I live? And that's the problem for most people is they don't believe that they can live life without porn masturbation in the moment being as something that will be actually better day to day. Meaning that whenever they feel stressed, whenever they feel bad, they don't believe that, you know, living with that stress or just like doing something else or not distracting themselves with porn masturbation, they genuinely subconsciously or even consciously believe that it's not really appealing in the sense that it's not really fun, right? So for example, for me, when I would feel very lonely because I'd literally be in my mom's basement back then, I would literally just not like it, okay? Outside of that, I like the fact that I was not watching porn, right? I would just be going to martial arts, building projects, going outside, taking walks. I like that, but when I was lonely, I just didn't like being lonely, so I wanted a way to kind of relieve the loneliness, and I believed that porn and masturbation could relieve that, even though it can't. And that's what basically motivated me to watch porn and masturbate, right? It was very dark times for me because I literally had no friends for such a long time. But even in that moment of my life, I also managed to quit porn and masturbation forever once I learned really the subconscious alternation. Because even if I was lonely for the next few months and I had no friends, whatever, I don't believe that it can actually solve my loneliness because I understood, right? I call this debunking. I understood that it has no connection. Porn and masturbation, even in the moment being, cannot solve that, right? All it can do is give like a, you know, it's not even porn and masturbation give you the, because let me explain to you something. I'm talking very fast, but This is a screen, right? I'm not gonna say the screen is gonna distract me, right? But if there's something on the screen that I might like or that I might associate a certain act I do in my own mind with it, then I might start liking the screen, right? So for example, if I watch videos of basketball, but I don't like playing basketball, then nothing's gonna happen, right? I'm not gonna feel like the same emotions. I'm not gonna think the same way. That's the key thing. I'm not gonna think the same way as if someone that actually liked basketball. You get me? So what happens is, if for example, when you're about to watch porn, what truly happens is just your fantasy, like just playing out in a sense of, I mean, once I realized this, it changed everything. Because you know how I told you like, oh, I'd imagine myself like having a wife, she hugs me, she cooks for me, like she's feminine, she's lovely, she's caring. Like, and I can imagine a scenario being in my own apartment, whatever, right? I imagine that with vivid details. Well, you do the same thing with porn, but whilst you're watching the video, and then you say, oh no, porn gives me so much dopamine, it feels so good. No, it's just your fantasy. Like, you could literally have the same feeling just by daydreaming like this. It's just that you became very skilled, and that's not like a necessarily bad thing, but you became very skilled at putting your own fantasy onto porn and mentally like focusing on that very fast. Right? But that doesn't mean that you're forced to do it. It's just you became skilled, meaning that it's like an ability of yours that you can use when you want to. But you can remove the want and you'll not even do it in the first place. You get me? So that's what truly happens, okay? And then it's like, okay, if you're feeling lonely, for example, can you like not being lonely? Like, I mean, can you like being lonely more than having to watch porn, right? And you don't want to overcomplicate that, but it's very simple. Like, you know, for me, if I'm lonely, I see it as like an opportunity for me to just like, you know, do better things. And I know that's the key thing. I know that porn masturbation has literally zero connection, zero connection with all of those things, right? Because the thing is, you're lonely. And this is, this is going to be for another video, but when you're lonely most of the time, or when you feel any negative emotion and you attach that to porn, is because you believe that porn can solve like a form of like emotional need that you've been maybe desiring, right? So, so So for example, if in that moment you want to, you know, you say you're lonely and that's because you watch porn, maybe the reality is all of your life maybe you had this belief that you were ugly and that no woman would be attracted to you. And that when you first started watching porn, the way that porn was marketed is that like, it's literally like the solution for that, right? It's like, if you're lonely and ugly, like you can watch porn, right? That's kind of like the media kind of, or I mean, not the media, but the narrative is, they hold that belief that, you know, people that watch porn most of the time is like, you know, because they're, they're lonely and ugly. So you make that mental connection, right? This goes deep, okay? This goes deep. I talk about in my book, but this goes very deep. So you make that mental connection of like, oh, you know, I'm, I'm lonely and ugly, for example, and that's my self-image. Maybe you had that like in your childhood, then you still hold on to it even if you improve yourself. And so you You hold on to that idea and you're like, oh, but what does ugly and unattractive and lonely men do when they don't have a relationship and cannot have one? They watch porn. That's what you believe. So now you watch it, right? So then you watched it back then and now you know there's no connection between you being not in a relationship and you watching porn. But then you're like, wait, but you know, Subconsciously, when you feel lonely, you think back up at that, right? It's subconscious, meaning that it's not really conscious. So you think about like, oh, you know, I'm gonna watch porn because it's gonna relieve the fact that I'm ugly and I'm gonna feel attracted. Maybe when you were watching porn, you felt like, oh wow, this woman, and you start having this own fantasy. This woman is showing love to me, I never seen that before, right? That's what lonely and unattractive men do as a substitute. And remember, it's all a placebo because like, it's a video. I mean, if it's gay porn that you're seeing, it's none of that will be even some, I mean, obviously if you're straight, none of that will be like really attractive to you, even if it's a type of porn which you find disgusting, right? So you get my point, right? You get my point. It's really simple. If you do these steps, it's like you literally change everything about you. You'll literally change everything because Porn is only appealing when you face a problem, but then it's not inherently appealing. It's just appealing because you made the mental connection between the problems and porn, right? Which you can easily disassociate. I cannot talk English. You can easily unattach, which I talk about in my book, right? Which is not out. It's only for my students, my clients, but you know, you can easily remove that connection. It's called a learned connection. And trust me, like, you know, you're gonna be— you know, you can just ask yourself, like, you know, is life really better with porn or without porn? Without judging yourself, right? Day to day. Now, I'm not saying, like, in the future when you're gonna have a family. No, I'm saying, like, right now. Like, can it be better, right? For me, it was like I felt so much drive and hunger to achieve many things in life that was like, I'm not watching porn masturbate Literally that simple, right? Or for example, it can be like, I feel way more aligned to God day to day, and that's the best thing for me. It depends on you, right? Or it can be like, oh, you know, I just feel happier day to day. I feel like I'm more aligned with my vision. I feel like I have more energy. I feel like I have more time. I feel like I'm more worthy of being in a relationship day to day, whatever, right? You get me. You don't want to do it for future goal. You want to do it for the present moment. Okay, now I'm giving you so much value. You can rewatch the video if you want, because this is literally like step by step, like literally what you need to do.
