Writing My Book - 1st Part (Documenting)

Samir Gardner documents writing his first book for men in porn recovery, following Chandler Bolt's publishing blueprint. He's built a 16-chapter outline, completed a rough draft in 90 days, and is now simplifying language with an editor and ChatGPT. He's aiming to launch by end of 2025 despite sleep deprivation and competing projects.

In this video, I'm gonna go over how I wrote my book here, as you can see, which is not published. And also, we're not even close yet to publishing it, okay? I've only wrote down the first draft and did a sample basically, and only my students have access to it as of right now. And so in this video, I'm gonna go over every single steps I took in order to write the first draft of my book. I'm gonna show you guys the blueprint I followed, how I corrected the book, how I got my cover, how I got my design, and everything that is necessary for anyone that wants to write a book. Now, this is me just documenting my process of writing this book until I publish it, okay? And so the goal with this book, okay, is not to just publish a book to be famous or to make a lot of money, even though Obviously that would be nice, right? The goal essentially from the start was always to leave a legacy behind, right? To leave something behind that would be meaningful that people could use in order to get out of such a big problem within society and a sinful problem that would allow me to kind of like leave my mark in that sense, right? That was the initial purpose, man, writing that book. But anyways, I'm gonna go on my computer and show you guys exactly everything that I did in order to do so. Okay guys, so let me show you guys the book that I used that literally allowed me to just follow the process to the T and do everything. It literally says everything you need to do in order to write a book properly, from writing the actual book, the drafts and everything, to hiring people for the designs of the book and how to even publish it and everything. Okay, so the book, okay, let me show you guys. It's this book here, okay? I don't know if you guys can see. Chandler Bolt, Published. The name of the book is Published, okay? So if we take a look here, you'll see that, you know, this chapter 1, for example, right now, looking for why, okay. Now let me show you guys, looking for why is so important. So here on my phone, okay, this is notes. Let me see, when did I write this? I wrote this almost a year ago. So I started almost a year ago, basically, okay. In June, I think, June or July. And so I wrote down and you can see here, it says publish. I don't know if you guys can see, but because it's not really, but publish, okay. My camera's tweaking a little bit, sorry. I don't know if you guys can see, it says angle and then it says purpose. Okay, so let me just read it for you guys. Angle: become the most popular book in the NoFap space and sell 1 million copies. Purpose. Okay, now this is very meaningful to me, but I mean, it's fine. To make men stand up against the lies and weapons weakening them every day. Quitting porn will be the first step in order to start this revolution. If you guys are new to my channel, my purpose is not just to help more men quit porn. My purpose is to not make men submissive to whatever ideology or whatever culture or society expects of them, okay? That's the main thing for them, right? One of the saddest things I see in this society that I was a victim of is constantly trying to like appeal to society and then living life according to whatever culture or mainstream ideology there is, and then regretting that life, right? So that they can finally live the life freely and do whatever they want, right? Obviously good things, right? And also write down why I said that angle. I said, because I want to create a movement of men going against the brainwashing they have been fed so that they can truly wake up. Why is that angle important to me? Because I will be able to leave a legacy behind that will be there once I am gone, right? Um, legacy for me is very important. And then basically I wrote down, this is the next step in the book. Let me show you guys. Um, you know, there's chapter here, chapter 4. It says, you know, what to write. This is not working. Okay. Then the magic of mind mapping, mind mapping. Let me show you guys right here, this sheet for the second draft of the book. I also did one for the first draft, but it's gonna be hard to find it. This is mind mapping, right? I'm literally taking, for example, one subject, let's say studies. And then I say, okay, I mean, my handwriting is just horrible. You guys won't understand it. But you know, for example, for example, it says, okay, placebo studies, recent studies, Uh, what does that say? Uh, Emperor Who Has No Clothes. Uh, like, you know, if you look at, um, lust, for example, right? Lust right here, uh, it says media brainwashed, um, basing your self-worth, what we associate with lust. Um, you know, these might not sound like clear, but if you look, for example, addiction, DSM-5, uh, studies, Japan's case, um, depression, neuroplasticity, there are like many, many, many different things, okay, that I'm kind of like, you know, trying to tackle. That's what mind mapping is, is just like you write down a certain subject and then you write down every single thing that you can think of that is related to that subject. So just that sheet alone took me like more than 2 hours. No, it took me, I think, at least 6 hours because it was done like on multiple days, right? And this is for the second draft. I did it for the first draft, it was harder because it was my first time writing a book, okay? And that's the thing, This is my first time writing a book. And then we have the outline. The outline is like when you start writing the book and then you have, okay, chapter 7, the 30-day writing challenge. So basically the author states that you can write the book in 30 days and it's completely true. I just, I mean, for me, it took me at least 90 days to write like the first draft because I was on and off, right? But even then I was constantly making tweets after that, right? Then, Crisis of Meaning, working with an editor. I actually hired an editor. I'm gonna talk to you guys about this. Chapter 10 is the title. It talks about how to have the right title for your book. And then the COVID on chapter 11. Chapter 12 is marketing and just overall launching until chapter 16. And so you have the launch strategy, whatever. You have these strategies, whatever. And yeah, this book is great, right? I highly suggest if you guys wanna read a book, I mean, write a book, then just follow what that book says and you'll be good, right? And so essentially, you know, I'm writing that book and I started in June or July, right? 2024. And so the purpose in the back of my mind, I know like if I die tomorrow, right? And I haven't wrote this book, I'll have some form of regret. Now obviously life is not just about like leaving something behind, right? You know, I believe that, you know, life is about worshiping God personally, right? This is my belief. I'm not trying to force you guys to believe anything. But when you have that thought of like— because for so long I was like, okay, it's been, you know, more than 3 years that I've been coaching people, right? I was like, yeah, maybe I should wait 5 years, you know, in order for me to write a book. And I was like, okay, I mean, yeah, but you already have a good success rate. Most other coaches in this niche— and I'm saying this with all honesty, I'm not saying this to make myself feel, you know, bigger— but they don't even know what they're talking about. They just go about quitting porn using some pseudoscience and using nothing that is proven to work psychologically, right? And the worst, okay, this is what like really motivated me to write this book whilst I was writing it for the first time, was seeing all over social media the overall porn recovery ideology, the overall porn recovery movement spreads so much misinformation to the audience so that they could, you know, sell them on this idea of, you know, recovering from porn, right? Whether that be through the coaching, whether that be through just whether that be to spread the message. Anyways, I realized like there is a huge and a huge problem within the recovery space, right? And actually it is not even porn now the problem, the problem is the recovery space. And I didn't realize that whilst I was writing the book, I already knew about that for a long time. And so what I realized is why I needed to go and just write a book so I can show people how effortless it is to quit, right? That's the name of the book, The Effortless Method, because the reality, okay, is we look at porn, okay? And let me just tell you guys, we look at porn, we look at masturbation, we look at lust. And if you look at these behaviors specifically, we'll call it PMO and lust, right? And you look at any other sinful behaviors or any other behaviors that are even considered to be addictive, or even any other behaviors that are similar, for example, video games, meaning that they're on a screen, there's a lot of stimulation, there's a lot of novelty, and there's a lot of elements that replicates, you know, things that we desire in real life, right? Or if you look at movies, or if you look at so many things in our day-to-day that we consume and that we stopped consuming, you know, with time. Like for example, junk food. Like for example, how is it that we just leave every other behavior but porn? And then the one answer that I always had in the back of my mind was porn is the only behavior which people actually use a recovery ideology in order to quit rather than just quitting naturally. And the biggest problem within the recovery ideology, for you guys that didn't know, is that it creates so many limiting beliefs that it literally makes the individual think that they have no free will, that they have no power over themselves, and that porn is more powerful than them. So I realized I need to do something about this, you know. I need to actually go and, you know, really make people aware that, you know, they can quit forever. Right. And I've done that with my students. I've done that through my YouTube videos. I've done that with people that just consume my content. And also the few people who had the chance to read my book, my first draft, basically. And so I realized, you know, I need to launch this as soon as possible, but also I want to work on it and make sure that it is actually good. So I'm just here and I'm thinking like, let me document this right now so I can be accountable to you guys in a certain extent. Right. Because I'm not going to lie, for the past few weeks, I barely even did any writing for the second draft. I'm very busy with other things, with other projects that are taking most of my time. I can sacrifice sleep and I've done so in the past for so many times, right? Like in April for 30 days straight, I slept 4 to 5 hours maximum. I didn't even sleep more than 5 hours even for one day, right? And I was on caffeine and yes, it was a great feeling to be productive, to do all of those things, whatever. But man, I would go to the gym at like 4 PM, and then after the gym, I would just like sit on my bed and I would fall asleep, you know, like I was that tired, right? And so I want to do that, you know. You know that feeling when you work so much towards a project and towards other aspects of your life that it's hard, but it's like, it's way more enjoyable than when you're bored and it's like you, you, you just, you know, life is, is easy and comfortable and everything. So essentially that's what I'm gonna have to do with the writing of this book because the goal is to launch this book by the end of 2025, okay? Now I'm not gonna lie, we're gonna do a lot of traveling soon. We're gonna do a lot of work on maybe we're thinking of building an app. We're also working on different things with students. I'm getting like pretty, my time is just being more and more limited, right? And so I need to do something about that, but Essentially, guys, I wanna really show you guys how this journey is gonna play out. So let me show you guys what I have done so far. So this is the first draft basically, okay? So you can see the 4-Test Method, a psychological approach to fast and lasting freedom from PMO. Okay, so this is the title, this is the subtitle, right? And then we have the table of content. We have first chapter is the porn recovery code. The second chapter is why we have failed in the past. Third chapter is addiction didn't exist Primitive cultures. Fourth chapter is why you watch porn. Fifth chapter is the choice principle. Six— okay, six chapters, the brainwashing. So it talks about love specifically. Seventh chapter is debunking every single benefits, meaning debunking every single surface level reasons, aka the most common reasons as to why people watch porn and masturbate. Chapter 8 is debunking every single flawed beliefs, meaning the fears that people have and like the false beliefs that makes them basically PMO. Chapter 9 is the dopamine myth, right? Really, you know, a lot of people just use dopamine, the word dopamine, and just throw it around and then just think that dopamine is making them, you know, watch porn. But this is not the reality, right? So, you know, as you guys can see, like, I'm really attacking everything, you know, the forbidden fruit effect, really understanding, you know, why we want to watch porn more so like on a biological level, right? Like more in like an innate desire level, lust and emo, right? Like really going over lust and masturbation specifically. As these are also two big struggles. And then we have leaving the two cages. So that means leaving porn masturbation forever. Same thing with chapter 13, which is the last chapter. It's kind of going over the same thing. And then we have an appendix. So, you know, a Q&A section. Yeah. And so as you guys can see, you know, this is 200-something pages. Why is this not focusing? There's 200-something pages. The second draft, we're writing the second draft, but the second draft, there's only 10 pages. And the goal with the second draft is to just write this and make it as simple to understand as possible. Because let me explain to you something, to you guys. In the first draft, I wrote that book, but it was my first time ever writing a book. And I realized that this is the key thing. Whenever you're building something, you want to go and actually do it. You want to go and actually say, you know what, I'm going to do it and I know I'm going to suck at it. Let me give you an example. The first vlog I did, was like a day in the life, right? That I recorded myself, right? And I realized that by recording that and also before my second vlog, that my vlog basically sucked, but I could only realize that it sucked and what I needed to improve by actually doing it, by actually recording a vlog in the first place, right? And so I'm kind of doing the same thing with the book. Instead of saying, oh yeah, I'll wait 10 years and then I'll be ready to write a book and then I'll have all the knowledge and then I'll be good at writing books and then I'll somewhat have the experience experience and just the wisdom to just write one. Like, instead I said, you know what, let me write it now, get feedback on it, you know, look at the mistakes I'm making, look at what I can improve, and then tweak it. And then with the second draft, I'm going to be able to do the same thing until I feel satisfied to a certain extent that, you know, this is something I can publish and it would actually, you know, be good. And I love just overall, you know, learning a new skill, right? Just learning something. Because the biggest mistake people make is They just are in this state of mental masturbation where they'll be like, oh, let me go and just watch videos of how can I improve my life? How can I start this project? And then they never start a project because they think, oh, I need to just watch more videos to learn how to start a project. But if you start a project, you don't even watch videos, you just start a project, you'll make 10 times more progress, right? And my kind of like mindset towards life is I wanna live 10 years in 1 year, right? If you guys know what I have planned for the next few months, you're gonna be like, Wow, you know, you're going to be like, you know, this is crazy. Um, but essentially, you know, with the book, this is, you know, something which I want to work on as soon as possible. I don't want to delay it. Um, and you know, I'm kind of like, you know, bringing all of the pieces together. So let me show you guys one thing I improved from the first draft. Okay. Already is this. I'm adding pictures. Okay. Uh, if you're seeing this and you know what this is about, don't worry. I'm not saying that, you know, uh, you're, you're, you're, you're Your brain is like this when it's on point, right? This is like misunderstood a lot, but I digress. Um, I'm going to go basically and use, I'll try to use visual representation. So this is one thing I'm trying to like improve, right? I'll try to use visual representations to explain concepts, right? Um, like obviously in the right way, in a way that people can explain, but also I want to make it as easy as, uh, possible to understand because Okay, if we look at the first chapter, right, so we have, um, basically in the first chapter I talk about like how the porn recovery movement is a cult. But the problem that I have is I use— okay, let me show you guys— I use, uh, Dr. Robert J. Lifton, uh, book, Thoughts. Let me show you a bit closer, right? Thoughts, Reform, and the Psychology of, uh, Totalism, right? Where it explains basically like 8 principles that, uh, are used to brainwash people. And it can keep them trapped in a cult. But then the language used, right? For example, demand for purity, right? And it says this concept involves a group constantly pressuring its members to see the world in black and white terms with no middle ground. They push the idea that there is only one right option and anyone who chooses otherwise will feel guilt or shame. It's a powerful way to control people by making them feel that they're failing if they don't conform perfectly. The issue with this is this is not like language that like if a 10-year-old would understand, right? And that's the thing, I'm trying to have a big impact, like a large impact. And so, and for me to do so, I need to make it easier to understand, right? And this is something very popular within like the world, um, you know, psychology or even like entrepreneurship space or politics, for example, where they saw that like, uh, in the, I think it was 2016, the 2016 elections where it was like Hillary Clinton against Trump, Hillary Clinton used like very, very advanced language that only older people could understand, right? Only people with a very good level of education. But Trump used very simple to understand language and he won the elections, right? And they said that was one of the reasons why, which kind of makes sense. And so I'm kind of trying to do the same thing where I can appeal to as many people as possible so that you can understand it. And that's one thing I'm working on. But let me tell you guys a few more things. So let me just set my camera. I hired an editor, right? So I wrote down the first draft and then I decided to hire an editor and I was new to this. And so I spent a pretty, I mean, it's not like the biggest amount of money, but I spent a pretty good amount of money on an editor. But I made the mistake of not really telling him what the book was about in the sense of like who the book was for. And so he gave me feedback thinking that I was just writing this book trying to convince feeds people to quit porn, whilst in reality I'm writing this book for the people that actually want to quit porn. How do they quit porn, right? And so I wasted a bunch of time. You know, at least the guy was responding very quickly, was always giving me feedback and stuff. I realized it was kind of useless. And one thing I did, you know, too, because it was also correcting the text— but one thing I realized is I could just use ChatGPT to correct my text. Like, literally, you know, you might think I'm I'm kind of like cheap for doing so. But the reality is, look, you know, I use an editor and then I use ChatGPT, and ChatGPT is better. So I'm just saying. And ChatGPT could literally turn my text and make it easier to understand, right? Um, but again, like, I don't want to lose that human touch. But the thing is, you know, you gotta realize that we live in a day and age where it's like you could technically just create so many things. So, you know, now that I realized that, it's a bit too late, but I could saved a lot of money, right? So then what I did after that is I hired someone to go and have my cover for my book, right? And so he gave me a few designs at first. Let me show you guys what those covers look like. Oh, here are like a few examples. Okay, so we have this right here. This was like a blue version, and to be honest, uh, it looked pretty good, right? Like if you compare to the purple, the purple does look good, but the blue actually looks better. Uh, it's just that the purple represents my brand, right? Okay, so we had this, okay, which is a pretty cool design if you think about it. Um, but what I did actually is I did a vote on my Instagram story and the blue one actually won. We have here, this is like a root, you know, I mean a tree with a root.
Um, looking pretty clean.
We had one that looked like this. I didn't like the color to be honest, the color orange. Like this, I really like that one, you know, it does look professional. I mean from my perspective, but, uh, you know, the color mixing couldn't work with my branding basically. And we add this one which is a tree, but I didn't like that one. That was the least favorite of mine. Um, they all look great, but again we just chose that one at the end. So I'm really just working on this as much as possible. Now I'm not gonna lie, it's 1 AM, uh, where I live. But anyways, I'm gonna go and sleep basically, but I want to first show you guys the content I captured yesterday, and then we're gonna go and talk tomorrow about the book again. Let's get it.
So I'm here just, um, editing the video. I don't know if you guys can see, but basically, uh, what I realized is in high school I actually was one of those kids that in the English class almost failed 2 or 3 years in a row. And the reason is my first language is French, by the way, and so we had the second language being English, right? Then I learned mostly through video games.
And through the internet.
But the thing is, right now I'm literally writing a book, right? And from the feedback I got from people, you know, I'm not just like writing a book that was bad, right? Like when it comes to the vocabulary, when it comes to the grammar, it feels just crazy to me. But I used to be this kid that literally was stressing out when I was, I think, 13, 14, 15, stressing out about English class because I was not passing. And now I'm literally writing a book. I'm not really saying this out out of pride. I'm just saying this out of like, even if you fail at something, even if you're bad at something, you could definitely get better at it, and you can definitely even reach a certain level in life that would be considered to be professional or successful. And so yeah, it's pretty crazy right now. We're outside, the weather kind of is finally nice, so I'm gonna get some sun in and tan because I love tanning, and I'm the best at tanning. So I'm just gonna go and finish editing the video. I'm gonna go and work on the book for sure.
Anyways, guys, part 2 is going to come up soon, and I hope you guys enjoyed that video. If you have any questions about the book, send me a message on Instagram and I'll get back to you.
