Hey, everybody, this is your boy, Garrett J. White, the founder of Wake up Warrior and your co host here with the founder, DKwing, Danielle K. White. My voice is still a little bit raspy because, well, I've been yelling my ass off. And while I've been yelling my ass off, my wife has been freezing her ass off. Welcome to date your wife podcast. And right now we're sitting in our bed. That's right. Coming at you with this podcast in bed. The only unfortunate piece is we are literally both completely dressed and well, I've got the heater on. Talk to me about why you're freezing, Mrs. White.
Man. Tony likes his events super cold, but when you're so cold, it actually is like a reverse effect on me. I start to like, get sleepy. But I think today we just picked bad seats because we were literally like right under the most powerful air vent ever. Like, I looked at the girl next to me and her hair was literally blowing in the wind. So needless to say, I had a leather jacket on, long pants, closed toed shoes, and I went and had to buy like a giant beach towel and I put it on me like a little Eskimo and I was still cold. Like my nose was running, I was so cold. But we actually came here. It's funny, we came here three years ago. We went to one of Tony's other programs called Date with Destiny and that was here in Florida and it was in December and Garrett, I guess Tony's son was in Garrett's wake up Warrior program. And randomly one day on a Sunday, we were watching on Netflix. I'm not your guru. Is that what it's called?
Yep.
Up until that point, I had never really been into any of Tony's stuff and hadn't done a whole lot of, I don't know, what would you, what would you call it?
Like, personal development?
I hadn't done. Yeah, I mean, I kind of like. Because I married to Garrett and kind of adapted a few of like, his mindsets and kind of merged him into my own business and whatnot. But I'd never really been to an event and I always thought of him like, when you hear personal development, I was like, ah. Like I just think of a bunch of hippies, like, sitting around hugging trees. I know that sounds bad, but honestly, when Garrett and I like, were financially struggling and we kind of lost everything and like, we were. Garrett owned mortgage companies and it was in 2008 when the market went kind of south and we were both faced with this decision of like, okay, we Got to do something. And Garrett went through this journey of, like, literally, like, a lot of self discovery, I guess you could say. And you were attending events where, like, you'd sit in a tent and, like, smoke would come out and, like, you. You're kind of going to some weird shit.
Yes.
And I even remember, I was like, what is this? And I'd go to a couple of them, and I. And I was like, I don't get it. Like, these people just want to stare at me all creepily. Like, literally. There was. At one point, they're like, now look into your neighbor's eyes. And I was like, I don't know what we're supposed to be getting out of this. It's really fucking weird. So I kind of had my own ideas of what personal development was. I was like, this is some weird hippie shit. And I actually kind of somewhat think of myself as somewhat hippie. Like, I'm very intuitive, and I like. But I just was like, I don't know what this is. So anyways, I watched. We watched I'm not yout Guru. And I was like, what is he doing? And Garrett's like, he's processing people. And I was like, well, that seems to make sense. And there was just like, more of a logical feel to it and less stare in your eyes. Weird shit. So I was like, hey, that'd be cool. We should. That'd be fun to go to it. And then he's like, actually, Tony sun is in my network or in Warrior right now. I wonder how. I wonder if we could get into his next event. And this was literally, like, the beginning of December in the event, I think. Was it, like, three weeks?
Yeah.
Next thing I know, he's like, all right, I got tickets, and we're gonna go. So we ended up going, and it was the longest thing I've ever done in my life. But I'm not. I'm. I'm very visual, and it's hard for me to sit in a classroom setting. But they have you jump around and, like, sing, and I. And they make you. Like, the funny thing is, is I don't really like jumping around. And then they do these weird massage trains. So everything about it is, like, really weird. I'm like, please stay out of my bubble and don't rub my shoulders, because it's really weird. It's not even. It's just. It's weird, but it keeps the energy up and whatever. So we go to this event. It's. Was it five days or six days?
Six. Six Six.
It's six days. And I'm used to, like, hair classes. Where? Hair classes. You, like. You go there eight hours or like, wham, bam, thank you, ma', am, see you later. And we get there, I'm like, when do we get a lunch break? He's like, oh, you don't get lunch breaks. I was like, okay, when do we get a dinner break? You don't get, like, you literally go from, like, nine in the morning till two in the morning. And I was like, what kind of psychopaths are coming to these events? But then, like. But then by, like, you are one.
Of those psychopaths at the events, Right?
But I feel like by day two, you're kind of like, you. You're geared up. You know what to expect. You're in there, you're like, okay. And you find yourself dancing and cheering and doing the weird massage train. So.
You make it sound like we're like. It's like some giant orgy. Like, oh, yeah, go to Tony events. The giant orgy. Just massage train. It could be that we were just watching something about Mary. So, yes, I take she's going to continue the story. For those who have never been to a Tony Robbins event. Yeah. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, you are in a room for a long period of time. All right, Continue. Okay. Continue. To go.
You didn't even let me finish the story.
I just had to insert myself.
Okay.
Massage.
Yes. I'm just giving you a visual because, like, exactly. That's the problem.
It's a visual.
Right. Hey, we went from staring at people to massage trains. I don't know. So anyways, were there. And throughout the event, you know, you have, like, homework. You have a notebook and all this. And I remember there was a lot of things that changed the way I think. And I'm sure Garrett had, like, a similar experience. Talked about, like, kind of. Well, I mean, the whole introduction of, like, this is your story. Like, I'd never really heard that concept before of, like, hey, this is your story. You need to change it. And I was like, oh, that makes sense. Anyways, how he broke everything down seemed very logical to me, which I liked. I was like, okay. And everything was, like, mapped out really pretty on screens, which I also liked. So it was just, like, very simplified. And he talked about values and what your core values are. And it helps explain why we operate the way we do and why we get stuck in our stories. And for me, I'm like, holy shit. Okay, that's cool. And anyways, one of the big points for me in that event was you got to write down, I just remember they're like, dream big. What do you want? Where do you see yourself? And then there, like, okay, make some goals. Like, what do you want in this next year? So they tell you to, like, dream big. And just write down, literally, like, you want an island. Say you want an island. But then they're like, okay, now what goals do you want in, like, the next year? And I remember thinking, like, okay, I'm gonna write down all these things that I felt like were more like five year goals. And then after that event, like, we made some major decisions in our marriage and in our business. And we just had some huge shifts that year. And it was funny because I looked at these things as, like, so far off in the future. And we ended up, I, I. One of the things that I wanted to do personally, and I'll let you share on this, Garrett, but we had been renting a home, like, ever since the mortgage company kind of died. We sold, we had to short sell a home that we had, and we were, like, super in debt with credit cards. We almost went bankrupt. We didn't actually go bankrupt, but we were renting homes. And we were both kind of building our brands. And Garrett's brand and my brand, they both started to pick up, and we were both making decent money. And we kept moving every two. We moved every two years for, like, the next, I don't know, seven years. Yeah, seven years. And I got to this place where I'm like, I'm sick of moving. And I know women, a lot of women, they kind of. They not kind of, but they want a lot of security. And security for a lot of women is like a nice home. And it wasn't even about the home. It was just like, I'm so sick of moving somewhere every two years and we have two little girls. And I was just like, I'm so sick of this. And, And I felt like Garrett was running. Like, he had this pattern of, like, kind of running. And I remember one of our, One of, one of my personal goals. I was like, we need to buy a home. Like, there's no reason we can't. We have this story that our credit shitty and all this stuff, but we're not doing anything to clean it up. And, like, we have this story that we can't purchase a home. And I was like. And I'm just tired of, like, feeling like I'm always on the run. So I remember one of my goals. There was this neighborhood in California that had like these huge million dollar homes right on the beach. And they were like beautiful and amazing. And I was like, we're gonna live there. And I remember standing over the edge when we first moved to California. And we've been in California almost five years. And when we first moved to California. No, it's five years this November.
No, we moved October 2013.
So six years. Okay, so six. So almost six years. And I remember when we were, when we first moved there, we probably lived there for like a year. So it was like five years ago. But I remember there was this beautiful neighborhood and we were leaning over the edge and I was like, I saw us, I was like, we, we will be in this neighbo and it's going to be. And I looked at Garrett, I said, it'll be a lot sooner than what you think. And I just kind of felt it and I. And I knew it. And anyways, one of my big goals that I wrote down from going to David Destiny, I remember saying it would.
Be, I remember saying it would be when the girls were in high school. I was like, maybe by the time the girls are in high school, we'll be at a place where, where we could pull this off. And you said, oh no, it's going to be a lot sooner than that. Now insert us at date with Destiny of six days. Danielle's very first event. Very first time she's ever gone to any event. Tony Robbins. I had never been to a big Tony Robbins event either. I'd listened to a lot of his content online, hadn't been to upw, Unleash the Power Within. And so this is our very first event. I was loving the shit out of it. Lost my voice, got sick because I was yelling so damn hard. Like, just submitted to the process, went all in. And so did Danielle. They separated us. We were in different groups. We even had two separate beds in our hotel room. Right. As ironic as it was, well, we booked late, but we just didn't even know we were going to the event until like three weeks before. But like, the irony of all of it was we had so many distinctions as individuals and as a couple. It gave us a chance to talk about things and envision things that we had never envisioned before or we had envisioned, but we had never actually committed to as a couple. And so we're sitting in Florida. Orlando. No. Was it Booker? No, it was Palm Beach. I think it was Palm Beach Tone, wasn't it? I don't know. May Booker Tone in Florida. And we're writing down our targets. And inside of that, Danielle writes down some targets.
Well, yeah, no, one of my targets was. I was just like, we need to get over the story that we can't buy a house. And for me, in our lives, I'm always the one that, like, sees an idea, and I don't just. I don't see it. I entertain the idea. And so whenever I entertain an idea, I get borderline obsessed with that idea. And I literally, like, I just visualize it and I'm like, okay, I don't even know how I'm gonna get there, but I just get, like, borderline obsessed. And I'm like, there's gotta be a way. Let's just entertain our options. Let's see what happens. And so anyways, with Back to the the house story. So I tell Garrett. I'm like, I. I'm like, okay, I think we're gonna be in there fast forward. We've done leasing. We're at a point where our lease was, like, coming to an end at one of our homes. And I'm like, let's just. Let's look to buy maybe. Like, I don't think our credit's that shitty now. Like, we've cleaned a lot of stuff up. We're making good money. Like, I don't think our credit's a bad, like. And so I didn't. I didn't actually tell him this. I literally just looked online and I found a realtor. And I just started going around and, like, looking at places like, oh, my God. And I came home one day and I was like, oh, my God. Remember that neighborhood? Like, I win just for fun. I, like, I didn't go just for fun, but I'm like, I win with some realtors. And they, like, showed me around. It's incredible. And I'm like, I made an appointment. This other house. You should just come, like, you should just come and check it out with me. And you came, and I think you were like, holy shit. Like, the vision came a little bit more real for you.
And we. Did you see how we wrote it down at Tony Robbins event, though?
Yeah, that's. Oh, I don't know if I did, but that was one of my goals was like, I wanted to buy a house, and I specifically wanted to buy a house in this neighborhood. And we were just leasing a home, and that seemed like the neighborhood and the house that we wanted kind of seemed like a big jump. Like, it was like a massive jump. So. But I. I just kind of felt like, no, I think maybe we could do it. So anyways, fast forward. We start looking around with the realtor. I plant the seed in Garrett's mind. He comes and looks at the house, and he's like, holy shit. And I'm like, wouldn't that be cool? Wouldn't that be cool if this is not that far out of our reach? So. So then all of a sudden, when I plant a seed in Garrett's mind, he was like, okay, well, maybe. Let's see. So he starts going to his bankers, he starts figuring out if we can get a loan, all this stuff. And we just start looking all up and down Orange county, and nothing feels right. And then we go back into this neighborhood, we see a home that we like. And anyways, we ended up. We ended up getting a loan and getting this house. And I was like, holy shit. And it was like one of those situations where every. It seemed against all odds because of the story that we are telling ourselves. And then when we actually, like, put our. Put our foot forward and started entertaining the idea, everything kind of fell into place. And we caught the house, and it was. I remember Garrett was freaking out because he's like, this is huge payment on a house. Like, are we going to be able to do it? And I just was like, you know what? If there's one thing I can say, like, every situation that we've ever been, except for, like, when the market crashed, like, you found a way to, like, figure it out. And if anything, it kind of has, like, leveled us up, both as business owners, to, like, make happen. But I do remember, like, one specific time. Do you remember when we went to. We were in Cancun. No, where? Cabo. Oh. Do you want me. Do you want to share this?
Sure. You're on the roll. Keep going.
Well, we're trying to do this show on a phone so it's harder to pass back and forth. But we were in Cabo the year that. When. When, like, everything was kind of falling into place with the house. And I remember we were, like, two weeks getting away from, like, signing papers or whatever. We're in Cabo. We get in this.
I'd already put the earnest money. Yeah, I had to put the earnest money down, which, I mean, in. When you talk, people talk about what's the big difference between leasing a house or owning a home in Orange County, California? Well, the difference is called down payments. And when in California, you have. You have, like. You have three of them. You have traditional loans, you have jumbo loans, which is up to 3 million. It's like a million to 3. Which in any normal community across the country, outside of places like San Francisco, Orange County, California beach, coastal property, New York City high rises, you know, Chicago high rises, like you're just not going to find it to get into the realm of 10 million or more. You go like, you go above 3 million, you go into super jumbo. When you go to super jumbo, the percentages like go totally different. Like you're talking 20 to 30% down, sometimes 40% cash down. Plus the property taxes are intense too. Like so the area that we were looking into, the property taxes were, are 2% a month. Like 2, excuse me, 2% annually on the property. Which was like the, the property tax on this house alone were more than the, the rent we were paying, the lease we were paying on the house we were just in. So like there were a lot of elements involved in this which was more than just payment. It was millions down and all, like there was all these. It was just a shift for me. And I had already put $150,000 down, earnest money, non refundable on this, this deal. And I'm sitting in Cabo and I'm going through a complete meltdown. Like, I'm like, holy, we can't do this. We get in a huge fight. Danielle and I about it. I leave the hotel, I go walking down the beach and I'm literally walking in this, this war with God, war with myself, war with like my stories, like just war. And I walk miles and I sit down on this big huge rock looking out at the ocean. And the moon's out, the waves are crashing, the moon's. I'm not surfing at this point, so I don't even understand or appreciate the ocean. Like when we'd move, I start surfing one minute, we move into that house like about six, eight months later. But I'm sitting there on the beach and like I want to quit. Like, I'm like this Danielle, everybody. I'm not doing this. Like I had gotten into this weird place where I was like a bit of scarcity. I was scared. I was, I was fearful about, you know, can I pull off this next level of living? You know, what is this going to do to me? You know, do we need to do it?
And you were like, you were pissed at me out of nowhere. And this is when I knew you were like feeling just like scared about the whole thing is you started to like blame me. Like, why, why, why do you need wedding the fucking house? What does this prove to you? And I was like, you motherfucker like, everything came, like, lined up. And you are. You're like, sabotaging this. Like, why?
I was.
And I didn't get it, and I pissed. And I was like, oh, my God. I felt like you were looking to create an argument. You were looking for your out. And I was like, you are not getting your out. Like, I will not let you. This is ridiculous. But you did. You did have a long walk.
So I come back from the long walk, and Danielle, I just. I shifted. Danielle kicked me in the ass. And by the time we came back from her trip from Kabul, I was like, fuck it, we're doing this. Let's go. And it was funny because my traditional bank chase had said they wouldn't finance me. And so I found somebody who would. And like, everybody, like, there's. If you look. If you look at the trajectory of our world, and this is going to be the lesson for today's show, is two things. What? Like, I'm going to back up to this. Like, all of this began with a vision. And that vision began long before he went to Date with Destiny with Tony Robbins. Right now, we're currently at Business Mastery together here in West Palm Beach, Florida, for five days of Business Mastery recording this in our hotel room trying to warm up from the icebox, which is if people think my events are cold. It's fucking ridiculously cold in Tony's events. Like, so cold. I started getting tired. I was so cold. I think I'm getting hypothermia right now. But, like, there was a moment where you had a vision, but then there was a going to something together where you committed to something. Like, Daniel and I at Date with Destiny, wrote in our journals exactly what our life became that year. And most of the shit that we wrote down seemed impossible.
Well, it was just more like five, ten year goals.
But they were like, but I'm like, the shit we wrote down I was convinced would happen by, like, you know, 2019, 2020.
How many times do people think like, oh, when my kids graduate high school, then I'll have time to pursue what I want. And that's not how it works. And then you lose, like, a decade of time that you have to make the steps in order to get to where you want to go. It's not like your kids go off high school or whatever, and you're like, now's the time. By then you've lost steam, you're older, you lose momentum, and you're just like, it. Let's just survive till we're 65. And then hope that we have enough to retire and live off of that. And I see a lot of people say and do that, too, and especially a lot of, like. I mean, I see there's a lot of moms, too. Like, their kids are done and graduated, and then they're kind of like, feeling like, where'd my purpose go? Now what am I gonna do? You know? So it's just. I think. I think it's like. I don't know. It was a crazy year.
It was an insane year. So we leave that Cabo experience, and I shift and we pull the trigger and I make it happen. Then within three to four months, it became our new normal. Within six months, it became different businesses. Like, it. What? And.
Oh, I was just gonna say, like, I feel like sometimes. I think sometimes in life and in business, you put a cap on what you think you're able to produce or whatnot. And for us, when we're in a situation, we're like, okay, here's the new numbers we need to hit. We figure out how to make that happen. And we both, like, leveled up in business and just kind of continued our journey. But when we were put in that situation, like, to sink or swim, like, we had to figure it out. And you wouldn't. I believe that you wouldn't have made the move if you knew you couldn't level up in business. You know what I mean? And so I think. I personally think, like. I mean, I think all of us are scared, but you had to have some level of confidence to actually pull the trigger.
There's a massive amount of confidence in it. I think, like, what we were looking for is permission, and the permission that came through making this leap and this neighborhood. I mean, there's a lot of stories I could go into that are just not. I don't have time for. On this, like, podcast to talk about. But there's. There's. There were so many situations around this environment, and it was killing so many stories for me. You know, like, when things went down in 2007 into 2008, like, and our credit got trashed, I mean, I went to people say, why did you build your businesses from cash? And I was like, well, because I had a story. And the story was, I couldn't borrow money, like, because I was used to. Like. And I was used to my cards. Like. Like, my cards 10 years ago would bounce into, like, they just wouldn't work. They would get declined. It was like. It was. It was fucking horrible. And I had so many emotional experience around that So I just given up the idea that I was going to get financing for anything. I was like, man, we fucked up real estate so bad. There's no way that we're ever going to get lending again. Even though there were a lot of people I knew who weren't even close to as good a situation as we created, you know, And. And yet. And there I was, still stuck in the story. So buying this house and investing in the. In our family and moving into this home literally shattered an entire box. Like, a frame of ideology that had surrounded my brain, not just in our family, but in our marriage, in my business, and in my life. And it started with us having a conversation. It accelerated by going To Date with Destiny, by Tony, with Tony Robbins, together as a couple. For the very first time ever, you and I went to an event to work on our businesses and our lives together. That's not true. Second time. First time was in 2008 to a program called My Lifebook. Yeah, that you skipped out on after, like, three hours.
Oh, that room was weird.
But, like, we go to that. We make the commitment, and we leap. So you. You. It is impossible for you and me to continue to create bigger results inside the container that we are in. Right? Many of you listening this right now. You're. You're still living in the same neighborhood you've been living in for years and years and years and years. And you want to grow as a couple. You live in the same state. You live in the same environment. Like, we literally had to leave our environment over and over and over and over again to get to a place where we could ultimately choose a life that was ours as a couple and ours as a family. Like, we don't do things, like, our way right now. Our daughter's, like, having heat at their school, and there's all this drama and going on between her and another girl. And me and Danielle are like, Danielle's got something to say.
I was gonna say, like, we got to the place, too, where I was like, I. We need to settle in a little bit. Like, for me, I know. And we actually. Donie was actually talking about this in his event. Like, a lot of times, people will have massive amounts of growth or change based on, like, pain. And I got to this place, too, in life where I'm like, hey, things aren't painful anymore, and I still want to learn and grow and. And push to the best version of me without having to feel that level of pain. And so I kind of got to this place, and we were moving every two Years and, like, seeing my kids switch schools and everything. And I was just like, I'm over it. Like, I don't need to experience growth by constantly moving every two years. So even though, like, we did that for a while, I finally felt like, it's time to slow. It's time to settle in for a minute. Do you know what I mean? And I think that helped kind of just destroy all the old stories and help take our relationship and our relationship and businesses both to the next level. I mean, like, it's so crazy how letting go of, like, one story, how it can actually affect so many other areas and stories inside of your life, and it can completely change your values and how you. How you operate and how you make decisions in life. But it's funny, because we joined. Or I didn't. I. I slept in one morning, and at Date with Destiny and Care comes back, and he's like, I joined Tony's Platinum Group. And I was like, what is that? And he's like, we get, like, unlimited events and all these cool trips. And I was like, oh, okay. And then it was interesting that next year, I was like, when are we going to all the events? He's like, oh, my schedule's packed. We're not. I was like, okay. And then he asked. He's like, they're gonna put our membership on hold. It's fine. Maybe we can do next year. Well, another year went by, and it's so funny. Like, I kept seeing. I kept seeing, like, this. All sudden, this year, I was like, I don't know if you're personally feeling like this, but I feel like in my business, there's, like, things I. I kind of always wanted to go to. Business Mastery. Like, that was one of the events last time that I was really excited to go to, and I was kind of at this place where they. I was like, gosh, I feel like I need a kick in the ass this year. And I just. There's some things in business that I'm not seeing. Like, we're having success, but I kind of know need to do, and I kind of don't. And I'm like, I don't know. And, like, I've been feeling like that for, like, the past probably, like, three months. And then I get this email that says, hey, your platinum membership's gonna expire. You know, we've had it on hold, but if you don't want to lose your membership, like, you got to use it this year, and you have to let us know in the next two weeks. And I was like, oh. And I'm like, the type of person that, like, I literally. If I'm shopping online, it says, two left. I'm like, I have to buy it. There's only two left. So that was enough to, like, put me over the edge. And I was like, hey, I forward it to Jeff, which is Garrett's guy. And I'm like, we need to make this happen. We're going to lose our investment. Plus, I actually really want to go to Business Mastery, so find out, like, let's just make it happen. So anyways, this was actually, like, a month ago. Garrett says, hey, there's Business Mastery in three weeks. Do you want to go? And I was like, yeah, let's make it happen. So that's the story, and that's where we're here now. And I don't. The most. The thing that I'm getting the most out of this. This event, which is, interestingly enough, like, the note, the area that I knew I needed to improve in is, like, just knowing my numbers better. I feel like I've been able to step out of my business a little bit, and it can totally run and operate without me physically being there, even though I'm still behind the chair and I enjoy working. And we got a new manager, and I'm, like, training her and that kind of thing. I'm able to, like, take a vacation and step completely away. And I can. I trust that they have it and, like, everything's running smoothly. Same with, like, our education and things like that. We have ani and, like, things are operating. But I get pissed off because I think that I would be somewhat good at numbers, and I don't know my numbers because it was a stressful part of our relationships where I just got to this place where I was like, you fucking handle it, Garrett. Like, I can't do everything. And then I think I, like, was too out of touch with my numbers. And I think that if I knew my numbers, I would know how to make adjustments in my. My business, and I would know better than Garrett would because he's not physically doing. I'm doing. He's not inside the salon. He doesn't. He knows, but he doesn't know. And so I just, like, Just coming here, I'm like. It's just, like, reconfirming me everything that I knew I needed to do. And then, like, so now I'm just. That's kind of where I'm at with. With everything change.
Like, it's not easy by any stretch of the imagination. You Know us coming here to Business Mastery. We've almost gotten in a fight every single break.
No, we have not.
Yes. First day and the day before. And it gets to a point. Last night at dinner, it kind of got there. But it's all been around these topics coming up at Business Mastery. So we end up. She pushes me. And the funnier part is, she's right, which pisses me off. And I fucking hate it, But I love it. But I don't know how to deal with it. But I love it, but I hate it.
I try to ask you questions. No, Garrett's so funny. Like, I try to. What I used to do is I want to come out and be like, what the. Why are you doing this? And I would. I would phrase it, like, literally, if there was something he was doing in business that I didn't see, why. Like, I'm like, that seems like a lot of fucking money to be putting there. And I would say, why are you doing this? And I would judge, and he'd say, you're judging from an ignorant place. You don't know what's going on. So I was like, okay, I don't know what's going on. So I started. When I asked him questions, I try to go into with, like, the mindset of, like, Danielle, you don't know the full story. So if you're going to ask a question, ask a question with the energy of. Of, like. Like, you're. You're really wondering. And so I can always tell, like, it's hard for me to ask Garrett a question on his business because he'll get triggered. And I'm like, anyway, we were at dinner last night, and I was just asking him a question about, like, why are you putting this much into ads? Have you tried, like, holding off and see if, like, do you need to put that much in, like. And he was getting really, really irritated. And then the next morning, he was like, damn it. And he looked over at me and smiled because. Who was the guy that was speaking? Keith Cunningham was. Was up there. He's actually a funny guy. He was entertaining. Like, when I first walked in, I was like, who's this guy? But he was. He was really fun to. To listen to and very entertaining, but it was so funny, like, throughout the whole thing, I think both of us are just, like, looking back and forth at each other, kind of smiling like, God damn it.
We.
We need. We need to know these things. And he's saying, like, you don't need to be an accountant, but, you know, have to have to know the accountant lingo and you have to, you have to know how be able to look at a spreadsheet. What did he say when he's like, the power is not in like knowing your numbers. The powers in knowing, looking at your numbers and knowing how to make an impact with your numbers or something like that. I can't remember. And then there was another really good quote by who? Bill Gates. That was really good too.
Bill Gates quote, I can't remember. I'll read it. He's, he quoted Bill Gates who said success is a lousy teacher because it lulls smart people into believing they're bulletproof. And then he, the, the, the money game.
I like that he talked a lot about like people get so obsessed with scaling and scaling doesn't always make you more money. And this is something that I'll see with like a lot of small business owners. And I'm a small business owner, but I'll see people like, for example, I had a sister in law who opened a gym and you know, she, I know that they like put so much money and effort into it and they're open for like five years and they probably ended up making no money and then finally decided to just close the doors. And I think a lot of business owners go into it and if you don't fully understand your numbers, you just think, oh, if we scale, you know, it eventually it'll even out and then we'll make money. And unfortunately you could go do that and go down that path for like five, ten years. And that's, that's a, that's a lot of time to just, just be hoping and praying like, hey, if we just throw everything back into the business, you know, eventually it will work out. And I think that that's just like a lack of actually being able to look at your numbers and fix them or tweak them.
So he also said another thing that was funny. He said as business owners, we don't need, we don't need to do more smart things. We need to do less stupid things. And he wrote, what is the book called that he just wrote the Road to Stupid. The Road to Less Stupid.
The Road. The road Less Stupid.
The road less stupid. And then the number quote that Danielle was giving, I take notes during these things and let me find it right here. Hold on, hold on. The value is knowing. Oh, as a business owner there is no value in a number. The value is knowing what to do about the numbers that you see. And like the entire process was about tracking. And this is like the whole process we have with Core 4, with Wake Up Warrior and everything we do there is the ability to track our numbers inside of a metric based system for our lives. And here we're learning things like date night one time a week. We're learning going to events like this as a couple are important, particularly because we do business, both business owners and we're in business together. And this process itself is not easy to be married and it's not easy to be in business and it's not easy to have children and it's not easy to be any of these things. Right? The trifecta insanity. Choose to be married, choose to have kids, choose to have a business. Like you do those three things, you're either glutton for punishment and you're a psychopath, or you wanted to have the fast train to big ass results by based on the pressure and the power of having to rise. So we're going to bring this show to a close. My suggestion for you inside of listening to this podcast is this. If you've not gone on a trip as a couple with the intention to go to an event where you get to learn together, I would suggest that you do it.
I feel like you're not like in the dark. I know when like, well, I have a, an education program for hair stylist called Big Money Stylus. And it's not just about like doing hair and naturally rose, but we teach them like business and mindset and that kind of thing. And it's so funny because they, if anytime you go to an event, you're like so stoked and you want to like go home and share with your, you know, your husband or wife and they're just kind of like, huh, like you're like, ah, I don't get it. And a lot of times they probably go home and like we're going to implement this, this and this and this into a spouse. If they're not at the event, they might be like, whoa, pump the brakes like nothing's broken. Why are you coming after me? You know, depending on how you approach your significant other and, and say, hey, we're gonna make these changes, you don't want to come across like, hey, you're wrong, I'm right and this is how we're doing it. And if you're not in the event together, we've seen that happen on both sides of our events where it creates a lot of tension inside of relationships because it's like, it's, they're not there. So it is important to like you know people all the time say, Garrett, do you have a women's program? He did Warrior Women for a minute, but they. They stopped doing it. And then people will always say, like, oh, I like, for the hairstylist, I'll be like, well, send them to the thing. But both of ours, like, mine's catered to, you know, hair stylists, and Garrett's is just catered to men. So it's not like unless you're. You have a husband and wife that are hairstylists. Like, it's not like a couple event. And Garrett's. And Garrett, yeah. So you'd want to, like, you go Date with Destiny or what's the other one he does? UPC or upw. I want to go to that one because it seems fun. I don't know.
You want to walk on fire. All right, so we're wrapping the show up. I'm gonna take Danielle on actual date night tonight. We're gonna go to a restaurant called Brio here right by the hotel. We may or may not make it back into the rest of the event. These events are 12 to 18 hours a day. They're very long and they're very cold, but they're amazing. So we just pick and choose the stuff that we're gonna go to. And right now we're gonna go spend time. Because part of the reason of going to these events isn't just learning from the training and the teachers up front, taking a bunch of notes, spending times and getting, having great conversations and our businesses and our lives going forward because we're here. So make that decision on your date night game. Talk about it. Talk about what? What is a trip we could take to grow as a couple? Maybe go to a parenting course, maybe you just go to a couples retreat. Maybe you're going to something different than just a trip to get away, but one that actually has a purpose of learning and educating and getting to put yourself in conversations together. I cannot speak more highly of Date With Destiny with Tony Robbins. We went to it in 2016, in December, changed our lives. We're going to go to it again in December of 2019. Fully anticipated changing our fucking lives again as we recalibrated another three year vision. And I'm gonna go back every three years or so to Date with Destiny for that exact reason, which is just to recalibrate a bigger future and do it with my wife together. So I'm standing here looking at this beautiful green and blue pool here at the Hilton, right next to the Palm beach convention center, where 4,000 people are here for the Business Mastery Event, and I'm encouraging you to do the same. Make the leap. You're worth the money, and your family's worth the money, and your future is worth the investment. So that's all we got for you. We're out of here. It's a great show. We're done. It's like 90. Danielle, I'm signing off. This is Gary J. Wise signing off, saying love and light. Good morning, good afternoon, and you haven't said that one.
Good night.
