I was like, okay.
I was owning it.
It felt like very much like role playing. I was like, hey, we got Cowboy Garrett. We got Boxer Garrett. We got Calvin Klein Garrett.
Model Garrett.
We went to. We ended up shooting with Brett Seeley, who's an amazing fitness photograph.
Well, my friends, welcome here to the date your wife podcast. And I'm hanging out here with Danielle. Deadpan White.
It's not. It's Jack Skellington.
Jack Skellington.
I don't have the full costume on yet. I just have makeup and hair.
Jack Skellington, the guy?
Yes.
You're transgender for Halloween.
Oh, my God. Babe. No.
Just checking.
I'm Jack Skellington. Neutral, friendly.
All right. Neutral, friendly, transgender.
I have a cute black suit and my little bow tie. I'm ready, wanna be. So I. Yeah. Garrett's like, are you sure you wanna do a podcast looking like that? I was like, why? What is wrong with this?
Do you know what I am for Halloween?
You're a warrior.
I'm identifying as a bodybuilder.
You can wear your Superman suit.
I am Superman. I don't even need to wear a suit. I'm just going naked after my naked photo shoot.
Don't scare the children.
How was. How about my naked photo shoot?
That was. You were. I was impressed. I mean, I think it's easier for a guy to, like, go naked in a shoot because, like, I think of, like, guys in, like, a locker room, and you're shooting with a guy, but, like, if I'm in the middle of, like, sexy photo shoot and lingerie, and I'm like, hey, hey, brother. I'm just gonna take this off. It might not be the same, but I was, like, thinking that I'm, like, it didn't seem weird. Like, it's more like. Yeah. I think of, like, a locker room. Guys don't care.
It was.
I mean, if it was a girl photographer shooting me, I think I'd be more like. Be like, yeah, that's fine. Like, just a pair of tits.
Right. But if it was a guy, it.
Does seem a little. Well, no, I did a naked photo shoot, but I was painted in gold.
That's right.
But I was totally naked.
Well, yeah. Guys painting and you were naked.
No, the girl. The show was girl.
Oh, it was a girl that painted you. That's right.
But, yeah. So your fitness show, we did it. The last podcast we did, we were talking about how you. I was controlling your rice cakes.
Yep. And, well, my rice cakes got me fourth place and third place. I did. I got. I Got. I placed top five four times.
You did great. I mean, it was your first show. You're 47 years old. Like, to do what you did is impressive. You already won. I told you that. I was like, you already won. Like, if you take home a. If you take home some hardware, like, great. But, like, you already won. So what was your. What was your favorite part of the show?
I. I mean, everything was new. The whole thing was new. The whole experience was new. Like, I'd never done any of it ever before, including having a. On my sock the day before.
On your sock or something.
Yeah, on my sock.
That's weird.
No, a sock on my. Excuse me.
I think that seems better.
I walked in to get tanned on the night before on Friday. I'd never done the tanning thing before. I mean, I'd gone tanning before. And I wonder what the guys wore.
Because it's like the girls just go naked, but you're. And you're having girls spray you. It's. We don't care. We're like, it's fine.
Well, I got back there and the guys were wearing like, they were wearing like some. A lot of guys were wearing kind of like underwear. And I was like, oh, man. I brought my sweats, but I didn't bring. I was wearing sweats, but I didn't have any underwear. So I was like, I guess I'm just gonna go naked. I guess that's how it works.
Were you nervous about it?
No. Which was weird. I was like, I guess I was gonna make it.
Well, it is weird, actually. The first time I did my spray transition, like, Val warned me. She's like, now I'm just gonna let you know. It's weird. You're all standing there just butt ass naked, and you're trying not to size up competition, and you're just all just. There's like 10 naked girls getting sprayed and you're like. She's like, just be prepared. It's a little weird.
Yeah. That's what was for the guys too. It was all guys in there, just all naked, getting sprayed by the spray tan girls. And then I. I took my sweats off because I didn't know. Like, I'm like, well, I guess I'm just gonna have to go naked. And then the girl looks at me and she's like, did you bring any underwear? And I was like, no. She's like, you need a sock. And I was like, where? I don't have any socks either. I didn't wear socks in my shoes. She's like, no, no, we have a sock for you up front. I was like, okay. So one of the girls grabbed a sock and brought it to me. She said, here you go. So I put a sock on. So there I was with a sock on my cock. All the guys, I'm still tanner now, still tan than I've ever been. I know. It was like, it was wild, though. So anyways, we're standing there having a moment with 25 other guys with all socks on our cocks, and we're just waiting there getting tanned in a tent by a lady just talking to, just talking to the ladies that they're retaining us and talking to everybody else and standing there. And then there's big fans and we're all getting blown by the fans, which was exciting. And I'm standing there looking at these guys and they're looking at me and we're just, like, drying off our tan.
It's only weird the first time if you do another show.
Yeah, it won't be weird next time.
It's when you're new to anything. You're like.
I was like, is this how this is supposed to go right now? Because I don't know if this is exactly how it's supposed to go, but it was fun.
I thought you did really well. I thought you seemed happy and confident and you could tell you were like a sportsman because, like, you're, like, into sports because you were, like, championing other guys too. Like, you were the only guy walking off stage. There were, like, fist bumping people and, like, slapping them in the ass. I was like, well, that's funny.
Like, I was like, good work, guys. Yeah, smack.
But you could tell, like, the judges, like, that they're like, who is this guy?
Yeah, now you know, I was, I, I, I got back on stage after, after the first night when we got tan. And then the second day we went and got tanned again. And then we got backstage and I was, I was just nervous the very first time, but everything was just totally new. So I had no idea how to stand in line, when to get lined up, when to warm up, how to get pumped, how long to wait to get pumped. The pro show came and, like, was interrupting the whole process for us, so. Or maybe we were interrupting the pro show, I don't know. But when the Pros start at 11 o', clock, they immediately cut us off. So I did True Novice first, then the pros went. So then like an hour and a half later, we had to get pumped up again. And then our age group came. Categories Went. So it was good, though, what you think? The first time I went out, I.
Could tell you were nervous, but you still did, like, really good. Like, I think everybody that does those shows, you can tell, like, the people that have done it a few times, and you can tell the ones that were, like, brand new. You didn't. You definitely didn't look like it was your first show. So I thought. I thought you did great. I was. I was really proud of you. And I. It was funny to be on the support end of things, cuz, like, I was almost like, more nervous. Like, I, Like, I. After this weekend, I was like, exhausted. I was like, oh. I feel like I was like, part of it, but like, in a different. Different light, I guess. But I was. My back was so sore from that photo shoot we did. Like, so sore because I'm not used to, like, arching and posing like that. Normally if I was doing a show, like, weeks in advance, I start stretching my back and like, po. Like practicing posing. But I wasn't doing the show.
So you were sore from the whole shoot or just the. The shoot in the shower?
No, probably the whole thing. Because remember how he kept saying, arch your back. Arch your back more. More. Like the whole day when I was in the shoot with you, I was arching my back.
Got it.
And then my calves were sore too, from being in hills. I was like, I am not conditioned. I am not. I'm not ready for this.
You were not a conditioned athlete ready to go?
No. And it's. Yeah. If I wanted to do another show, I realized I was like, oh, I got. I. I look good, but I got a minute to go.
It was good. I was happy with. I was happy with how I. I was happy with how the experience was for me. And I was getting a lot of great compliments. Like, everybody wears big, baggy sweats, and they're warming up, and I remember taking my sweats off and I go to line up. And I was getting lots of positive feedback from the other athletes back there too. Just going like, dude, you're diced, you're peeled. Like other words are using to describe. Just, like, shredded.
Like, you're. You definitely had, like, the biggest abs.
I did. That was a weird. That was a weird feature that grew on me was abs.
You were doing abs every day. Most guys don't do that. They do. They. Their abs show up when they lean down. Same with the women bodybuilders or even in bikini. Like, I'd be like, val, shouldn't I be doing abs? She's like, no, we don't want to put sides on your abs. For bikini, it's all about that tiny waist. Like, you already have a small waist. So if we lean you down, like, that's all you need to do. You're gonna have abs. So a lot of these guys, they get huge and they. Then they lean down enough to where you can just see their abs, but they're not. They don't actually work their abs that often.
We work abs five days a week.
That's nuts.
No wonder they look like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I do abs. 200 abs.
I think you're at. Your abs were definitely noticeable on stage.
Yeah, I thought so too.
That's good. You've never had abs, so.
No. And they're like protruding, big, deep, blocky abs. Blocky abs. I was still trying to figure out the posing. The posing was working nice, but it was like, I was still trying to. I was still trying to figure it out. It was. I mean, it was a little intimidating. It was a little intimidating being that was my very first time. Yeah. I'm doing a show in, like, six months.
Are you addicted?
I am. I'm addicted to how big I'm getting.
Nice.
Yeah.
I was looking at photos of us in Paris, and you were, like, so much fuller. No, you're just fuller. You were like, your face was fuller. Like, everything was fuller. We were both fuller. I was like, all right.
It was weird getting that lean, though, because, like, I got. I just got to this place with like. Like, I was like. I was not. I was trusting the process, but I was not trusting the process at the same time. And as I was going down, like, the cut, I was not perfectly following, but I was following a good enough.
Because you were saying your body. So you're like, I'm good. I'm good. And then your coaches were giving you feedback. So you're like, I kind of did that more with my first show. And then every show I felt like I got, like, a little bit more strict. I was like, okay, I'm gonna turn on the air because it's a little warm in here.
Yeah, that's because you have a giant wig on.
You look, like, a little sleepy. So I was like, let me get the air on for you.
Well, when we do these podcasts like this, I've literally been in seven hours of one on one calls, and I was in a two hour business meeting. Then we rolled straight into this podcast. Normally we have therapy, nine hours of doing, and then here we are at the podcast. So. Yeah, Plus I was up 3:30.
I know, cuz you kicked me. You know what the snore thing lately is the tape not working?
Obviously not.
No, I'm not kidding you. Like I, I can't function when I'm up every hour. I feel like I, like my nervous system's like literally starts to freak out.
Were you up every hour?
I, I fell asleep like 9:30 and then I was up at like 12 snoring. I heard you snore at 12. And my, my thing is sometimes I can fall back asleep, but if I have to get up and actually go to the bathroom and then I come back and you're snoring, my brain turns on. And then I'm like, oh, I'm screwed. Like once my brain turns on, like it, I could sit there for three hours and like have these repeating thoughts and then I'm like, should I get up? It's three o', clock. But I've been up since 12 so then I only got three hours of sleep tonight.
Like it's super weird that you can't go back to sleep.
I told you if, if sometimes I can. But a lot of times I literally my like my brain turns on because it's not. You like snore and then you stop. So I'll start kind of fall asleep and then you snore and then I'm like awake. So it's bad. Last night I was finally like, I look at the clock, I'm like, okay, it's three. He normally gets out of bed at four.
Okay.
And then finally I look, but it was like a heavy snore at three and I was like, no. Yes it was. And I finally was like kind of. I try to be nice. I gently pretend like I'm like sleep kicking, like, oh, sorry babe, did I wake you? And then I get to the point, I'm like. So like a nice subtle like tickle on the back, like hey babe, you're snoring. And then it got to a point where I'm like, get out of my bed.
You didn't get that aggressive.
I did.
But you did get, you did get done. You were done.
I, I was like, I need you at this point. I'm like, I just need like two, two more.
I already told you, I have no problem sleeping in a guest bed. I don't care.
I don't like that. I don't like the idea of not going to sleep with you. I think that's stupid. Why can't you just wear a face?
I did.
I put Tape on my double tape.
Just like, oh my God. I've tried to buy the chin strap when.
Why is it working in tape?
I don't know.
Are you not doing the double crisscrosser?
I did a double crisscrosser. I think my mouth rejected it last night.
Maybe the double crisscross and the muzzle.
Thing, maybe my mouth just is playing out how it really wants to be, which is.
I don't know. But I know you don't think it's a big deal. And I'm like, I just, I do.
Think it's a big deal. I think you not sleeping is a big deal. Because when you don't sleep, you are not nice.
No, I'm just like, I have to sleep. I feel like I'll like have to sleep. I'm like in bed for like 10 hours, but I only got like six hours of sleep. I'll like, some mornings I'll wake up and I'll like, that was the worst nightmare of my life. Like maybe I should have just got up at 3am Sometimes I wonder how.
Like, I don't know how many people are like me. I could literally get up at 3:30 and I rally, I rally hard.
You drink a lot of caffeine?
No.
You should naturally have a lot of energy.
I ran, I ran today. I've had caffeine wise, let me think pre workout.
Yeah, that's usual.
That's all I had this morning. So I've had. I woke up at 3:30, stacked, went to the gym, trained 5, 6, back to the house. Breakfast meal prep call starts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. Six straight hours of 101s, then one o' clock with Jeff for two and a half hours, then here with you. So from 3:30, well, you gotta go treating Bud. 3:30. Basically 12 straight hours I've been going.
I need you to put on that spandex and get out there.
I'm gonna be Superman.
You're going to be. You don't have to dress up. This is like me and me and the girls tradition. We always get our face painted every year and I always take pictures and then I literally put on like a black onesie and some boots.
Yeah, no, I don't do, I don't do the face paint.
Well, you did one year.
Did I?
Yeah, you did the year I was pregnant, remember? We both were like skeletons.
That was cool.
And you've done face paint in the past. We had one in like you're in your suit and I'm in like a gown in the Middle.
That's right. That was pretty sweet.
That was sweet, too. But this year, we were superheroes. So you didn't do face paint.
Mm. That. Super is easier. I'm just gonna put the Superman costume.
Yeah, throw that on. You know you want to wear spandex tonight.
Spandex is what I want to wear every night. You know what I'm talking about?
Hey, your photos were really cute.
Hey, you're super turned on by my photos.
I actually am. I was like, good for him.
Tell me about it. Tell me about that photo shoot for you.
Great.
Tell me about it.
There was just, like. It was just fun for me to be on the other side of things.
Yeah.
Like, and you're, like, so shredded and so tan, and you finally shaved your face, and your hair's looking on point, and I'm like, there he is. Like, it was like. Like, it was. It really was a transformation. And then it was cool to see you in this space of just, like, owning what you had done and, like, having fun with it. And, like, he'd be like, okay, grab your shirt and do this. And it was, like, masculine, but, like, still very sexy. I was like, okay, I was owning it. It felt like very much like role playing. I was like, hey, we got Cowboy Garrett. We got Boxer Garrett. We got Calvin Klein Garrett.
Model Garrett.
We went to. We ended up shooting with Brett Cely, who's an amazing fitness photographer. I found him quite a few years ago where Val had recommended, and I had a really good experience with him. So I had shot twice with him, and I'm like, gary, you should reach out to him. So we flew in and Garrett booked a whole day, and we went to, like, multiple places, and I was in a few of them with him. And that's why my back sore, because I forget, like, it's all those kind of photos. Like, people don't walk around looking like that all the time. Like, it's literally. They're so fun to do right after a show because you look the best you've ever looked. Then you get a profess professional photographer who knows lighting and angles. You're like. They're like the photos. You look back and you're like, I'm a super. I'm pretty much a superhero.
You know the naked one where I look like a Greek statue?
Yeah.
Stoss is going to get a 6 foot by 5 foot one of that.
Butt ass naked, and it's going to.
Be on the wall at Palestra Gym.
Yeah.
Just right above one of the treadmills.
Sign it.
I am going to. And then I showed Stoss some of the other ones and photos and he's like, oh my God, we're going to put those up in the gym too. He's getting excited because he thinks we're going to turn this in back into a bodybuilding gym and he's going to have a bunch of young bodybuilders coming in maybe. I just told, I just told him, I said whoever lady is that's walking on those treadmills every day, they're going to be very, very inspired by the, by the gliders.
That's where the 65 year old ladies are like getting extra motivated.
They need some motivation.
Then they're like, is that him?
And I walk in like statue slowly, like just take my shirt off. And they'll be like, well he's not in peak season.
It's funny because I go down to our clubhouse and it's always me and Val and like four other six year old dudes.
Yeah.
So I mean we're the hot commodity down there in Dana Point. We are super hot and young.
You are. So I'm in there working out in the morning. I'm. I'm like the youngest dude in the morning working out.
Well that's what I've seen like in Dana Point, like in where we live, it's, there's just like we're, we're like in kind of like a little bit of a retired community area. So you know, if you've got a, even a remote six pack, you're just.
You'Re, you're owning it.
Yeah.
Well, this was the, this was the most in shape I've ever been. It's the most vascular, the most lean, the most muscle, the most like I've never obviously I've never trained like this before and I've never looked like this before. So I had, did have moments definitely where I would even be in the, during the photo shoot and I'd be looking at like photo myself or like looking in the mirror while the photos happen.
I was like that's me.
That was me. Like, which is a weird feeling to look in the mirror and look at yourself and be like oh Jesus. Like incredible. And then you're like that's me. And you're like what, how did I, how did I even happen? How did I, how did I do that?
It's fun, it kind of with your brain a little bit over time. But I, I try to always, I always say like I always try to keep myself in the pocket. Like I thought about going Pro. And then I was like, I'm not willing to put up, put on that much size because during the off season, like, the women that put on that kind of size are a lot thicker. And I like being petite and leaner. And so it's crazy. Even this, this, this year, I spent a lot of time trying to put on muscle, and in the end I was like, yeah, I just like lean, Danielle. So now I'm in, like, the cut process. I'm like, I worked so hard after Baby Charlie and I got like the leanest I ever had, almost too lean. And then this year I was like, I want to gain a bunch of muscle. And then I was like, no, too far. Now I'm like in the opposite boat. So it's all. It's like a balancing game of, like, where you feel the most comfortable in. You know what I mean? But anytime you do a show, regardless if your shape changes, you're going to feel awesome for two reasons. You're tan, you have no water in you, so you're just gonna look shredded.
Just lean, lean. And I'm feeling it starting to come back in, though. Starting to fill in.
I've had a lot of people though, too, that have said, I think people think something like this is abnormal to do. Like, it's unachievable. And I've had a lot of males and females say, like, really follow your story. And it's kind of like sparked something. They're like, I think I'm gonn one. And I'm like, yeah. I'm like, if you actually.
Yours and mine.
Yeah. And I. So I think people, it's cool that like, to do something that is out of the norm and people are inspired by it. They're like, okay, I think I think I could do that. And the reality is, in my experience is women are afraid to lift weights in fear of getting bulky.
Yeah.
But it is. So if your diet is on point, like, it's actually really, really hard to get bulky for women. And so it like, I kind of flipped the narrative of, like, I'm not actually going to put on that much size. What's going to make me fat and fluffy is unnecessary food and calories and crappy diet. And so I find if I eat really clean and lift, I look way better than if I eat medium. Do cardio all the time. You can't out chase a diet. I always say that. I'm like, you can't. Guilt workouts don't work. You're not going to burn. You can't. You Literally, you can't run your way out of a bad meal. Like, it doesn't work that way.
Yep. I mean, I have, I had somebody point out one of my, every one of my clients say in my one on one calls, like, said the same thing, like, hold on, coach, can we talk for a minute about how amazing you look and how proud we are of you and how proud I am of your work you've done. Like, it's been so inspiring to get to watch you through this year in 2023, be your one on one client and watch you go from what you were to now. And the reality is back in, back in the spring, I thought you were a lean athlete too. So it's not like I was looking at you like some fat guy who needed to lose weight. But Jesus. I look back at like what you were and I look at you now and I'm like, you kind of look like you weren't in shape, even though at the time I didn't think you weren't not in shape.
Here's the crazy thing too, like because you're 47.
And so that was the other thing they were saying too.
Why people say, why do you feel like you need to do this at 47? What would you say to them?
I said, because I can't.
Exactly.
I'm 47 years old and I'm in the best physical shape of my entire life.
But that's, that's the point exactly is somebody said, why do you feel like you need to do this? Why do you feel like you need to prove this? What's the point? And it's.
My dad started when my dad was my age, he had did Body for Life with me. I had just gotten divorced from Christie and Parker was like a year old and I was living at my parents house for about three to four months and my dad was doing Body for Life and I was doing Body Life for Life with him. My mom messaged me and she said that I'm the same age that my dad was when he took on Body for Life. And I was like, huh?
Oh really crazy.
Yeah. My dad didn't actually take the Body for Life on for longer than about six months. And then he went from looking not even close to what I look like.
I think of something of like a diet or a Body for Life is like a one time challenge. And what I experience in learning more about food and nutrition is that this very much can be a lifestyle. And not to say that you have to be strict all the time, like competition diet, all the time. But. But you just learn a lot in the process where you're like, wow, I was eating a lot of unnecessary shit that not only didn't, like, help me get the physique I wanted, but also, mentally, how much was this shitty food bogging me down? Like, when I eat clean, I mentally feel more sharp. And now when I eat like, crap. I was joking around with Val this morning. I was like, oh, my God, this weekend, I ate, like, such crap. I'm like, I. Pizzas and burgers and steaks because it was, like, your competition. So as soon as you were done, we're like, eating and eating and eating. I was like, I think I have, like, I drink a lot too. I'm like, I think I have more of a food hangover. I was like, my gut literally is like. Like, it just feels like I need to, like, do a cleanse. Although I never do that after eating. Like, I always just get back on track. But it's just crazy how much food impacts your energy levels, your. Your mental capacity, and pretty much how you function. And it's. For the first time, what I learned is, like, food is energy, food is fuel. And it doesn't mean, like, I don't still have fun with it. I just know my parameters and how I can utilize this. Set me up for the body I want and the mental capacity that I need to function as a business owner and a mom.
I just think it's crazy that in one week, on the final week of cut, how much my body changed into seven days. And then it kept changing even, like, into yesterday. It was still like. Like my body was still cutting down.
Yes. I can say after.
Still getting lean. Even got leaner after peak week.
Yes. That's what it does. It's so cool. So you're, like, really dehydrated, and then you slowly start feeding it back up with food and water, but you stay lean muscle. So you. You almost, like, look more jacked and lean. You're like, what the hell?
Like, yes, it.
And then what happens is it'll finally, like, the week after, you always look the best spillover. And then you get a spillover, and then you're like, what the. And then you kind of just have to find your happy, like, balance of where you're like. Like, because you. You start to get a little cocky about it. You're like, oh, I can eat whatever I want.
I can eat this burger, extra bowl.
Of ice cream tonight. Like, you eat perfect all day long, but then you're like, look good. So you're like, yeah, I can have an ice cream. And then you a few nights in a row. And then you're like, okay, I am.
I'm committed to getting, like, I'm on my diet plan again. So, like, we're back to the. What he calls a reverse diet.
Yeah.
And now we're cranking back, eating same things I was eating before.
Yeah.
Just to eat.
Does he have you slowly building up your carbs, though?
So we're slowly building carbs up so that we can get back to. And then we'll start hitting. Because right now we. We cut down to, like, 1300, 1400 calories a day. Now we're up to 1800. And then next week we'll be up to 2000 plus. And then, like, in three weeks, we'll be up to 3000 a day. And then we'll start starting to push up to 3,500cal a day to build. So we're going to push, like, within two weeks, three weeks, going to be up double the calories every day.
I wonder when you weren't drinking the amount of rice you were eating, I wonder what your calorie intake was.
Right. 4000.
I remember I was like, that's a ton of rice.
Like, I'm sure it was at least 4,000.
I was like, that's like a. That's a lot.
And I was eating a ton.
And did you have energy? Because.
Tons of energy. Tons of energy.
That's what's crazy. When you start cutting, you lose energy.
You get tired, you get fatigued. Protein doesn't give you energy, that's for sure.
Protein builds your muscle and.
Yeah.
And the carbs give you energy.
Well, I. I feel like we did some, like, incredible photos, though.
Yeah.
I mean, and we did some compressor.
Funny, because I think I look good, but I'm not, like, competition body right now, so I'm a little judgy of myself.
I'm sure you are.
I'm like, oh, my.
I knew you'd be. I knew you'd be judging yourself looking at them.
Yeah.
I love. I thought you looked super hot.
I like, in person, I actually think I look. When I was, like, competition ready last year, I was almost too skinny. I was like, oh. Like, in person. Like, I like where I'm at now because I'm small, but I still have, like, a little. A little extra sauce. But in photos, I love being, like, super lean. It's just, like, it's just impressive.
It is. I felt that in the photo shoot myself. Like, I felt it.
Yeah.
Like, I felt like. I felt very jacked, and I was very vascular. I think I was almost more vascular the photo shoot day than I was during competition.
Kept depleting water. So you think about during comp. On the day of comp, all you do is sip water. So then the next day, you even wake up more like just.
I hardly didn't drink any water for almost two days.
Yeah. Yeah.
Body just drained itself down. I was like, veins on top of veins. I had veins crawling up my abs, up my chest. We have a couple. Looks like I'm a Calvin Klein model.
Those are my favorite ones. And I actually like the cowboy ones too. It's kind of sexy. I didn't think I'd like it, but I liked how you're just, like, in your blue jeans and, like, the lights and stuff. I was like, okay.
I sent that picture to my mom of me smoking a cigar.
Did she give you about this?
Of course. And she messaged me back, and she said, oh, all I can see is how sad I am as your mom that you're smoking cigars and.
Oh, my God.
My dad died when he was 8 of smoking. And I said, I know. I was like, I hear you.
Why didn't you send her a boxing?
I was like, you can you send.
Her that to trigger her?
No, it was a cowboy hat because she like her. She was like a cowgirl. So then I was like. And I texted back, and I said, hey, listen. I was talking to. Talking to Weston. And I said, you know, you could eat cake or eat cocaine. Like, you could do. You could do cocaine or eat cake. I was like, either one are gonna cause you problems. I said, what's worse? A guy that drinks a beer every night smokes a cigar once a week? Or a guy that carries around 40, 50 pounds of weight and is obese for the 24, 7 for 25 years? Yeah. I was like, I'm gonna take my chances with beer and cigar guy over beer.
Isn't that guy. Because that's how we were raised in that old school. I'm gonna say old school because I don't think it's that way anymore. But Mormon mentality where, like, no coffee, no cigarettes, none of this. I'm like, every one of you guys are, like, fat at one point in your life. I'm like, not just, like, a little bit, like, obese. And I'm like. And you're telling me that I can't have a cocktail, and you're telling me that I shouldn't smoke a cigar once a week? I'm like, I'm sorry. Like, I think the reason even my mom and your mom both had knee because both of them were like 75 to 100 pounds overweight. Over a decade.
For over a decade.
And I'm like, I. You, you can try to tell me, especially as you get older, that carrying that extra weight on your body is not going to cause you problems. I'm going to call a spade a spade. It's funny. I. And I love both of our moms, but it's just that mentality of just like not being open minded and being so set in your. And what you think that all you see is something that you were told is a problem. But then it's like, well, to my.
Mom, if I smoke a cigar, I am now a chain smoker. If I have a beer at night, I'm an alcoholic.
Yeah, but that's again, that old school. Like, it's so much. Even guilt is put on to that generation where they're like, if they even had, like, yeah, maybe they only had a glass of wine like every other night. My, I remember my mom would be like, oh my, you know, my. She would say that my aunt and uncle were alcoholics because they had a glass of wine every night. I was like, in some cultures, like, like that's like breakfast, lunch and dinner. So I don't know if you can.
Define all European cultures. So here's the deal. We're gonna wrap this episode up. We're gonna do two episodes today. This one, this one was on the topic of recap of the fitness competition. I, at the end of the day, am very excited about this fitness journey. I feel like I'm just getting started.
I feel like, welcome to the party.
Yeah. I feel like I'm in a very powerful place physically.
Yeah.
Like in more powerful place than I've ever been. My certainty's rising. My confidence is rising. Walking around doing nude photo shoots and having zero hesitation to it. And you're like, I remember watching you go through your certainty sexually and physically as a woman when you did your fitness competitions and I felt the same thing you were feeling and you told me it would happen.
But what I love is it's not, it's. It's not even just like the certainty rises. It's like it's such a vulnerable place to put yourself physically, mentally through that. So when you get on stage, it's almost like a piece of the ego dies.
Yes.
And so this certainty comes out because you're like, holy shit. Like, I earned this.
Yes.
So that's. It was cool for me to see the energy shift in you, which you saw in me. And now I feel like we're at this cool, powerful place together where it's like we like, literally like, are like just in sync again. Like, it's not that we were ever off, but it's like we both are, like stepped up a level of like, like vibration, I guess you could say. So. I'm super proud of you. I thought you did amazing and I'm excited that this wasn't just a one time thing for you. And then it, it's like whether you get on stage, you get again or not.
I will twice next year.
Yeah, for sure. Well, good for you. And I, I'm not saying I won't like me being there. Even Val's like, you think you're gonna do another? I'm like, ah, maybe. I don't know. I was like, I definitely like, don't feel like I have anything to prove. But what I do love about it is having a goal and a discipline and then having that moment of like, I did it, whether how many times you do it, it's. It's having literally a physical goal that is not just like, that's beyond just the body because the nutrition and everything that's involved in it. So I was super proud of you.
Thank you.
And good job.
